105.
Years had passed since our encounter with the Anuk-Ite, and while a lot changed since then, a lot also stayed the same.
Liam and I had gone off to college, both of us at UCLA. We had even managed to get an apartment together after our freshmen year. We came home to visit our parents as often as possible, because no matter what, Beacon Hills was home.
I wish I could say life was normal, but it wasn't and I knew it never would be. If I'm being honest, I didn't want normal, not right now at least. There were always going to be threats to my brother, my boyfriend and our friends, it was just a matter of how we handled them.
Monroe posed the biggest threat, having amassed thousands of followers into her fight against the supernatural. And although that threat was always looming overhead, we were dealing with it, like we always did.
"Liam!" I called, throwing on my jacket as I rushed through the apartment, flipping off all the lights he had left on. "Malia's on her way!"
"Okay!" his voice came from the bedroom, and it was likely he was playing video games online with Mason. "I'm coming!"
Not minutes later, Malia's car pulled into the parking lot. I glanced out into the rainy night before throwing open the door, "Let's go!" I yelled again, turning back into the apartment.
Liam came flying around the corner, a sheepish smile on his face. "I'm ready." he breathed, following me out the door.
As we slipped into Malia's car, she turned to smile at us. "Hey, kiddos." she greeted, putting the car into drive.
I grinned at her, reaching to do up my seatbelt. "Missed you." I announced.
Malia let out a laugh, "You saw me like a month ago" she pointed out as she pulled back onto the road.
Liam leaned forward from his spot in the back seat, "A month is a long time."
I nodded, raising my brows. "Yeah, Liam should know. It takes him that long to finally put away his clean laundry."
Liam glared at me as Malia stifled a laugh, looking between the two of us. "I don't know how you haven't killed him yet, Syd."
"Hey!" Liam argued, his face morphing into a pout as he slumped against the back seat.
I glanced back at him, an amused look on my face. "I've been close." I laughed, sending Liam a quick wink.
He rolled his eyes, trying to maintain his angry demeanour. However, after a few seconds a smile overtook his face as he shook his head.
I turned back to the front, looking over to Malia. "Did my brother say what this is all about?" I questioned.
When Scott had called me earlier this evening and asked for Liam and I to meet up with the rest of the pack, he hadn't provided me with many details. I had agreed instantly, deciding any opportunity to see everyone was one that could not be turned down.
Malia stopped at a set of lights. "He said he has someone he wants us to meet. Someone we need to help. "
I nodded, falling into silence as I glanced out the rainy window. The last few years were spent doing what we could to protect those who were needing protection. We may not have all been together like we used to be, but we were still a pack, and we still saw each other as often as possible.
I pulled my eyes away from the window as we pulled into an empty lot. I looked through the rain to see Scott and another boy standing in the middle. They were in conversation, yet at the arrival of our car, along with Derek's and Stiles' they looked up at us.
I couldn't push down the smile on my face at the sight of my brother. I missed seeing him everyday, so I was ecstatic every time I got to see him. The same went for the rest of the pack, seeing them brought me more joy than I could explain.
I wasted no time in undoing my seatbelt and pulling myself from out of the car. Liam and Malia followed, as did Stiles, Lydia and Derek.
Liam stood beside me as I glanced around, giving everyone quick smiles before focusing back on my brother and the unfamiliar boy.
He was young, maybe 15 or 16. He reminded me of my brother, and he reminded me of Liam. They were both so young when their lives changed forever.
The boy curiously looked around at all of us. "Are they all..." he trailed off, still studying each of our faces. He then looked back at Scott, finishing his questioned. "Different?"
My brother nodded slightly, "Some of them are." he replied, his eyes scanning over our supernatural friends. "Some of them can do things you would never believe."
I saw Malia grin from the corner of my eyes as Scott continued, "And some," he added, looking between Stiles and I, "Are only human. But they make up for it by being really smart." he was looking at Stiles at this point, who sent him a quick wink. "Or really good in a fight."
My brother then met my eyes, and a proud smile covered his face. "Or are extremely determined and resilient." In other words...he was calling me stubborn.
Liam let out a small laugh as he wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer. I grinned, leaning into him as Scott turned back to the new boy.
"Who are they?" the boy questioned.
Scott looked around at all of us, a look of pride covering his face. "My friends." he answered, quickly glancing at me. "My family." he added. "My pack."
He focused back on the boy, "You can be with us." he explained, "If you want. But you're going to have to fight."
"Against Monroe?" the boy asked, his voice wavering slightly. Even still, the mention of her name sent hate flooding through my veins.
Scott nodded, "And everyone who follows her."
"She said she would find me." the boy admitted. "That she would hunt me down and she would kill me. She didn't care how old I was." he paused, his eyes casting downward for a moment. "She said I was a monster."
I felt my heart break for the boy. I could only imagine how scared he felt, how alone. Monroe was the monster, not him.
Scott's face clouded in slight anger. "You're not a monster." he promised sternly. "You're a werewolf...like me."
I couldn't fight the smile that covered my face as Scott's eyes flashed red. The boy stared back at him, a grateful smile coming to his face.
My brother soon turned his attention away from the boy, looking over to Liam with a small smile. I had been told that those were the same words Scott had said to Liam that night at the lake house...the night of Liam's first full moon.
Liam smiled, looking back at my brother with appreciation. I looked over at Liam, quickly pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Scott motioned for the boy to follow him, and soon enough they were making their way toward all of us. We all came together, smiling at each other as we neared. The minute my brother was close enough, I pulled him into a quick hug. "Good job." I whispered, pulling back to meet his eye.
He smiled, glancing over to the new boy who was watching us with admiration. Scott had just changed this kid's life, perhaps he had saved it.
I was pulled away from Scott as Stiles wrapped his arms around me, effectively placing me in a headlock. I laughed, swatting at him as he grinned down at me.
Liam playfully rolled his eyes, fed up with our antics as he linked his arms around me.
Derek was watching all of us with proud eyes. While we had all grown up, we also hadn't, not really at least.
Stiles threw his arm over my shoulder, Lydia on the other side of him. Eventually, we all linked arms, even the new kid. All of us held each other tight as we walked through the rain. Part of me never wanted to let go.
These were my people, my family, my pack. They had made me into the person I was today, they had changed my life. If Scott had never of been bitten, I wouldn't have known Malia, Lydia and Derek. If he hadn't have been bitten, I would have never known Liam like I did now.
I would forever be grateful for the way life played out. And while the looming threat of Monroe always hung over head, I wouldn't want life any other way.
Finding out my brother's secret had been one of the best things that had happened to me. It brought me closer to him and Stiles, and introduced so many amazing people into my once lonely life.
The last few years of my life had been the best by far, and I truly couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.
