Y/N POV
There's tons of candy on the table. I'm munching on potato chips and drinking Sprite as Gon and Killua fill me in on Greed Island.
"Wait, really? It has a clue to your father?" Gon nods. "Sweet! Can I go with you guys? I can pay for the game. I have . . . maybe seven billion in my bank account? Wait . . ." I count up my money from the Phantom Troupe. "Make that fifteen billion. Please?" I put a little pout in my voice.
They gape at me. "You have what!" Killua exclaims. "I thought your family was average! Who's your mom?"
I shrug. "Tori Yamada."
"Tori Yamada?" Gon screams. "Tori Yamada and you lived on the streets?"
I wince. "Money isn't everything. But can I still come?"
Gon sits next to me, swinging an arm around my shoulders. So does Killua. "We're a team, Y/N!"
"Of course you can! But," Killua gets up and puts his face in Gon's. "Even with the money, there's the chance we get outbid. How can you make sure that we get into the game? We're all riding on your plan, you know that right?"
The next morning, the auction is happening. I wear a comfortable and casual dress and the necklace Feitan gave me.
Killua pulls me over and I tweak his bow-tie. "Why are you wearing that necklace?" he mutters.
"If you're worried about what I think you're worried about, you should know he's not competition. We're just friends. And this piece of jewelry is very nice."
Killua frowns still. "Whatever."
We walk into the building. "Hall B, right Gon?" He nods.
We walk into it. I'm with Zepile, who Gon just introduced to me. He breaks away to our seats and I follow him, gaping at the place.
We start down the stairs, looking around and talking. I hear a "Huh?" We look in the direction. Right there sits Phinks and Feitan with Killua and Gon frozen next to them. Instantly, I see them sprint away, Phinks and Feitan springing up and following them. I follow from a distance. They start talking before the two Phantom Troupe members leave and go back to their seats. Immediately, I head over to them.
"What happened?" I exclaim worriedly.
"They thanked us," Gon trails off. "They thanked us for Paku."
"Paku? What happened with Paku?"
"She died, Y/N. She told them what happened and she died."
My hands fly to my mouth as Killua wraps an arm around my neck, pulling me to him. Gon pats my back awkwardly and we stand there for a second.
"You alright?" Killua asks softly.
I nod against his chest, stepping back. "I'm fine."
As soon as the auction for Greed Island starts, my hand is up, one finger pointed in the air.
"I see one billion!" the woman yells. "Two! Five! Eight!"
"Seventeen!" I cry out.
"Seventeen," the auctioneer repeats. "I see twenty!"
"I'm out." I put my hand down.
"What does this do?" Gon asks. He raises a thumb.
"I see 28 billion!"
"Idiot!" Zepile yells.
"30 billion!"
I sigh in relief and look at Killua. He's gonna pop a vein. "Hey? You ok?"
"He's here! Look at him! Ugh!" He points a fat man, reaching out his hands and mock choking him.
"Oh, I know him. Milluki Zoldyck. Famous for being really smart but never leaving the house. A-"
Killua cuts me off, shaking my shoulders. "Yeah. I'm his brother."
"Oh, yeah. I forgot. Sorry."
After the bid, we go to Battera. Gon and Killua go in by themselves, knowing that I'm hot-tempered. I wait, hearing screams. Gon and Killua storm out, telling me what happened.
Back at the room, Killua tells us that we have to have a special technique in order for him to let us into the game. "Get one or else I might just leave you behind. I already have one," Killua fibs, winking at me and I smile. I knew exactly what he was doing.
"You might need some alone time," I say, patting him on the back. "I already have a technique that I cultivated with my dad, so I'm going to go with Killua."
I follow Killua into the opposite room and sit on the bed, reading a book. I have no idea what Killua does, but I do hear a large explosion.
"Was that you?"
"No," Killua groans. "Gon had another brain fart."
"Aww, poor thing. Anyway, do you have any chips?" I close my book and accept the crisps from Killua. "What are you going to do, though? You don't have a specialised ability." Crossing my legs, I look over at him.
"I'm a transmuter," he tells me, sitting down next to me. "I can change my nen into something else. I was looking at your card earlier and you know how you have lightning on it?"
I nod, scooting closer to him.
"Well, I've trained with lightning before. Dad used to shock me with it for training."
I wince, not knowing what to say. "That's horrible."
Killua snorts, sliding his eyes onto me. "It's okay, it really isn't that big of a deal now. But look."
I rest my chin on his shoulder, looking down. Hands out in front of him, with only his index fingers pointing at each other, he crackles lightning to life.
"That's amazing, Killua," I breathe in awe. "It's terrifying that you had to go through that, but what you're doing right now is beautiful."
I feel his head turn down to look at me, his hair sweeping over mine. I don't look up, too mesmerized by the lightning flickering between his fingertips. He murmurs something too quiet for me to hear, even though I'm right next to him, before turning back to his lightning. He cultivates it more, changing the size and shape of it. I sit quietly, just watching.
He starts contracting his arms, the lightning getting bigger then smaller alongside his movements.
"Can you make anything with it?" I murmur, watching the blue crackle to life under his cultivation.
Killua shrugs, my head moving up with his shoulders. "I don't know. I've never tried. What do you want me to make?"
"Make an ice cream cone," I giggle.
Killua snorts again and I just know he's rolling his eyes. "You're so fat."
I roll my eyes this time, and I know he catches it. "Humor me."
Killua quiets, starting to move his hands. I push myself off his body, wanting to watch the entire process. He spreads his arms out and then up, shaping a cone from his lightning.
He pauses, then looks down at me helplessly. "I don't know what's next."
I raise an eyebrow, tilting my head in confusion. "You don't know what's next? I told you to try it around a year ago; haven't you tried it?"
He looks into my eyes, trying to say something that I can't pick up. "You know I wouldn't do it without you," he whispers.
I can't find it in myself to say anything else.
We're now seated at a hall. A man on stage tells us the risks of playing in Greed Island and that we must show off our Nen if we want to try to get a limited slot at Greed Island. He then opens up the line to people.
I jump up almost immediately and hurtle down the stairs, making it third in line. I wait for Gon and Killua, but they don't come. Too bad. They'd make it in, though. I knew that.
I walk inside and see a man. "Show me your Ren."
"If it's okay, I'm going to show you my Hatsu instead."
"You can show me anything that you'd like that represents your power."
"Alright. May I please have a person to demonstrate on? A strong person, preferably."
The man, whose name is Tsezguerra, motions for someone to come. "Strongest person I have."
I transform into my light form. Black wings unfurl from my back. I walk over to him and touch his knees. Immediately, they buckle and twitching. Convulsing, the guy is in so much pain that froth starts pouring from his mouth.
I switch it off, and Tsezguerra looks at me in horror. "Medic!"
"No need for that." I transform into light.
White washes down my black wings, transforming the color and signifying that I'd switched. Touching his knees again, I wait until they are back to normal.
"So?" I ask, standing back up.
"You-you passed. Go through that door."
"Thank you." Walking inside, I see there's only one other person inside. I find an empty bench and put my feet up on the table in front of it. And wait. And wait.
A few more people trickle in.
I feel an electric spark, and then a bigger one. The door opens. "Killua!"
"Y/N!" He comes up to me and high-fives me. "You made it in!"
"Well duh," I laugh. "Acting like you have no faith in me."
When we hear a large boom. We look at the door, and in comes Gon.
"Gon!" We shout.
"Y/N! Killua!" He bounds up the stairs to us. "You made it in!"
"Was that boom your doing?" I ask. He nods. "Wow, I'm impressed."
Tsezguerra walks in after. "You twenty-one peoples have earned the right to play Greed Island. Please fill out this form before six o'clock, and you may join."
We're celebrating at a diner with Leorio. He's reading over the contract while me and Killua are playing rock, paper, scissors. Leorio looks over at us and we quickly hide our hands behind our back, smiling innocently. When he looks away, we resume playing.
"Rock!" he shouts.
"Paper!" I respond.
"Aww," he complains. "You've been winning for the past ten minutes."
"Don't you remember the Hunter Exam, when Leorio was up against the pink haired convict? You may be an assassin, Zoldyck, but did you even listen to what she had to say? That's why I'm winning."
"We weren't there yet," Killua reminds me.
"Oh. Oh, yeah. It must've been Kurapika or Gon who told me about her, then."
After lunch, we give our good-byes to Leorio. I hug him. "Stay safe, Leorio." For once, he doesn't get mad. "I'll see you soon."
"Bye, Y/N."
Once we've turned in our signed contracts, we board a train to get to the castle where we'll be entering Greed Island. We all fall asleep. My head's in Killua's lap and my legs are in Gon's. Their heads lean against the coach's respective walls.
I wake up to Gon on the other side of the booth, and Killua laying behind me, both of us squished on the small seating. Sunlight filters through the un-curtained windows from the bottom of the horizon. Yawning, I fall back asleep.
I reawaken to Gon shakingme and Killua up. "Hmm?" I rub my eyes.
"You guys fell asleep together, and pushed me off," Gon whines.
"My bad. He's warm," I say, half-asleep. I snuggle back into his arms, curling into a ball, barely thinking about what I just did.
"Hey! Killua! Y/N! We're here." Gon snaps in front of us, waking Killua out of his daze and me out of my sleepy state.
"What the hell," I scowl and stand up, sleepily rubbing my eyes. Killua stands up as well, and I slump against his shoulder, leaning my head against it. He puts his head on top of mine.
Inside the castle, Tsezguerra explains how to get in. We play rock paper scissors to find the order to get in. Gon goes first, me thirteenth, and Killua seventeenth.
When I enter, I'm told the rules about the game. I memorise them and go out. I see Gon sitting in the shade. "Hey."
"Y/N!" I sit down and talk about the eyes that are watching us.
"Human for sure."
Killua comes out. "We're being watched, but there's no towns near here," is the first thing he says.
We walk in the direction of the eyes. "How many cards did you guys get?"
"Two," I sigh.
"None." I stare at Gon. "There was nothing there. But there was a message from Ging. He said to enjoy the game, but there's no clue."
We continue to talk about random things. "I wonder if there's Sprite here."
"I mean, probably at some restaurants?" Killua guesses.
"Then we're going to a restaurant!"
There's a flash of white in front of us. When the glow fades, I see a man. Clicking my tongue, I tell him, "Those piercings do not suit you. They're really ugly."
The guy snarls at me, and I snort, trying to cover my laughs. He starts to talk so I zone out. Then there comes another flash of power from the guy headed straight for Killua. He races away, when it hits him.
"Killua!"
"Are you hurt?" I ask.
Killua looks up at the guy and his bloodlust spikes. "What did you put on me?"
The guy backs up in fear and flies away.
"Are you okay?" Gon asks. "Does anything hurt?"
"I'm fine. I wonder what that was, though."
We arrive upon a town. The first thing we see is a board filled with prizes you can get.
"Let's participate!" Gon exclaims. "We can get cards!"
"And get information," I add.
We head into a restaurant, where a cat-faced creature instructs us to finish the spaghetti in thirty minutes to get a prize. It's our first meal and we stuff it down their throats. I sip at a Sprite as Killua tries to question the cat but gets nowhere. We get the cards and race to do more contests. The day passes in a blur, and it's noon.
A guy approaches us under the shade of a venue, asking for us to meet with his allies. Reluctantly, we agree and they explain things to us. In the end, they ask us to help them, or if we decide to join, us, clear the game.
"Sorry, guys. I'm out." Gon walks away.
I look innocently at them, and then at Gon. "We're out too!" I grab Killua's shirt and race back to Gon. "Wait up!"
"Gon!" I let go of Killua's shirt. "Why'd we leave?"
"Sorry!"
"You don't need to apologise. We just want to know," I try to explain.
"Well, I didn't like how they only had bad things to say about this game that Ging and his friends made. I wanted to do what Ging said, and enjoy the game. I couldn't do it if I stayed with them. And not without you guys!"
I wrestle them into a hug. "Of course not! I'm the most special person here!" I giggle.
Killua scowls. "Don't get cocky, Y/N. Everyone's staring. especially those boys." He points at some teenagers. They smile at me, and Killua lets his bloodlust go. It seeps through the street.
"Let them stare," I shrug.
"Let's just enjoy the game. C'mon." Gon pulls us further ahead.
Me and Killua start to walk forward, expecting Gon to come with us. But from further away, his voice trails out, "Killua. Y/N. Thank you." We whip around. "I'm glad you guys came with me. No, I'm glad that I met you guys!"
"Aww, thank you Gon!"
Killua, on the other hand, turns back around. I can feel how big of a tint of pink Gon left on Killua's cheeks. "Cut it out stupid! You're embarrassing me!"
"Why? I really mean it." Gon catches up with us, and we tease Killua before starting up with our own ideas for clearing this game.
