"So what made you want to be a firefighter?!" Paul asked as I walked into my house

He wanted me to spend the night with him because he felt like I wasn't safe. And it was refreshing. To have a man wanting to protect you from someone you've been hurt by for years was new to me.

But I guess it was my fault, I allowed him to sweet talk me into leaving home at an early age and getting married.

I laughed lowly and said, "For a long time I wasn't allowed to work, so I thought I'd do something impactful, I guess."

"That's amazing." He smiled closing the door behind us

"Why couldn't you work?"

I sighed and said "I wasn't allowed to leave the house. Aiden used to say it was disrespectful to leave the house without him. Then when Id have to leave he'd accuse me of cheating and he um..."

"You don't have to tell me if you aren't comfortable."

I took a deep breath and began playing with my ring "My therapist said I should talk about it more...but he used to beat me then force himself on me and after just leave and tell me to clean myself up."

I quickly shed a tear before wiping it just as fast, as Paul walked closer to me softly grabbing my hands rubbing my knuckles tenderly.

"I'm so sorry." He said sympathetically bringing me into a warm, soothing hug as my walls began to slowly crack down.

Tears silently fell from my eyes as I softly pushed him away.

"We can't do this. I-i can't do this." I said beginning to wipe my eyes as he stood there speechlessly.

"Serenity please let me in." He begged with soft eyes

I shook my head 'no' and said "I think it's best, we stay friends."

"I swear to God, I'd never hurt you." Paul said with propitious eyes

"He told me the same thing..." I said lowly looking to the floor

Not even a second later, he softly grabbed my chin and lifted it so we'd make eye contact then said "I'm not telling you, I'm promising."

I stood there looking in his eyes before he leaned down slightly, pressing his lips against mines.

If you told me ten years ago, this is who'd I'd be kissing I would question what planet you were residing on. This is the third time he's kissed me and I can hardly believe it.

He pulled back from the kiss slowly making me stand there blankly with my mouth agape for a slight second before he rested his hands on my waist.

"That asshole broke you...now let me fix you." He plead making my mind go blank as we stood in calming silence.

"I'm going to go get my bag packed, I'll be back. If you need anything help yourself..." I trailed off before walking away heading to my bedroom.

I walked into my room and sat on my bed gently as I began to contemplate on this whole ordeal.

It's been a month and a half of knowing this amazing being and this bit of time I've spent with him has meant more to me than my 7 year marriage with Aiden.

When he looks at me I can tell he means well, I can feel his truth. He even trusts me enough to spend time with his daughter.

But means and intentions are on two different sides of the spectrum and I know his means but what are his intentions.

I walked into Paul's very normal house and almost laughed making him smile.

"What are you cheesing so hard about?!" He asked making me let off a long sigh.

"You weren't lying about having a normal place...it's nice and cozy." I nodded looking around

He laughed and said "So what do you want to eat?"

"It really doesn't matter." I replied making him nudge my shoulder slightly "Don't give me that, what do you want Chief?"

"Fine! Chinese?"

"Done." He replied going on his phone to order the food online before I scrunched up my face slightly and said "My crew calls me Chief, just call me Serenity."

He laughed at me and said "I don't know, it's kind of sticking."

"Whatever." I groaned as he slipped off his shirt and said "Alright. I'm going to take a shower, feel free to just roam."

My eyes steadily began tracking over his broad shoulders and chiseled frame as they began travel lower than they should've, making me study the beauty marks placed around not only his neck but chest.

"Serenity!" He snapped knocking me out of my trance

"Uh...yeah?" I asked straightening up making him laugh

"Did you hear a word I just said?" He asked continuing to laugh

"No...I'm sorry." I replied looking away making him stop laughing as he walked over to me until I could feel his body heat radiate onto mines.

"You don't have to apologize..." He said as my eyes continued to wander with my heart almost beating out of my chest and my breathing hitching.

I've been in burning buildings with temperatures way above 400 degrees and here I was struggling to breath and keep my composure.

"I-i. You..." I began to stammer, mentally face palming myself.

"I what?" He asked licking his lips making me blurt out "You're hot." before I covered my mouth making him laugh again.

Softly grabbing my waist he filled the small void between us pulling me close as he said "And you're sexy."

My heart began racing as my core ached at the sight.

"I said 'You can put your things in my room'." He spoke with a smirk

"I don't think that's a good idea." I mumbled

"Why?" He asked grazing his hand into the back of my loose fitting shirt softly massaging circles onto my skin as my heart began to completely take over.

I slipped my hand onto the nape of his neck and his hands softly traveled past my bottom under my thighs as he lifted me into his arms making me kiss him longingly.

"May I?" He groaned lowly pulling at my shirt a little

"Yes." I said breathlessly as he gradually pulled my shirt off exposing my plain black bra, softly beginning to lay kisses on my neck.

I began to sniffle as my mind had faint flashbacks to the last time Aiden had his hands on me and began to push him away.

"Please...stop." I plead

He pulled back to my wishes and ran a hand through his hair "I'm sorry. I shouldn't ha-"

"No, I'm sorry." I replied playing with my necklace looking to the floor

"Don't be." He replied handing me my shirt, making me chuckle lowly sliding it back on.

"I'm going to go shower...the foods on the way." He replied scratching the back of his neck

"Alright. I'll see you in a minute." I replied with a small smile that he returned looking me up and down before walking up his stairs toward his room.
