It was a long few exhausting weeks, Janae tried calling Alec many times, getting no answer. She felt so lost, sad, confused, heartbroken, and angry. She was angry with everything. Especially being stuck in some minimum prison in the middle of fucking Ohio. At least she had Alison, but it wasn't enough. She missed Aaliyah. She craved her. She was stuck in the dark, having no idea if Aaliyah was alive or dead. Nobody else knew either.
Today, Janae was determined to get ahold of Alec. One of the inmates had Alec's office number, as they were paying him good money to be their lawyer. So, Janae and Alison found out the number and called. Unfortunately, his intern picked up, rather than him. But, she gave her name and the intern luckily recognized it and gave her Alec's personal number, which was updated as the day of the riot, his phone had broken so he had to get a new number.
As of now, she was calling his personal number. It took a few rings until he finally picked up, figuring it was one of his clients. "This is Alec Channing, what can I do for you?" Janae let out a sigh of relief, shooting Alison a thumbs up and she pumped her fist in reply. "Alec? It's Janae." She rushed out. She could hear crying in the background, crying of a baby, she smiled, figuring it was Aaliyah's niece.
"Bloody hell, I was wondering when you'd finally call. I tried to find out what prison you're in but nobody was telling me. I had to get a new number, my phone fell out of my pocket when I was running to the car so I had to get a new one and number." Alec explained, picking up little Amira from her crib. Janae was quick with her next words. "What happened to Aaliyah? Is she okay?"
Alec went quiet, handing Amira to Teyana as he mouthed who he was talking to, Teyana quickly taking her in understanding. He exhaled, not sure how to break the news to her. "Listen, I'm so sorry-" Janae cut him off, a tear falling, she was praying he didn't say what she was so desperately dreading to hear. She didn't want to think about it. No matter how many times it crossed her mind. She couldn't believe it, she didn't. And luckily, the universe was on her side.
"She's dead, ain't she?" Janae mumbled sadly, like she had shattered her own heart just by saying that. Alec was very quick to reply. "No, definitely not, she's not dead." And then, Janae's breathing finally came back, not even realizing she was holding her breath. "So, she's okay? Can I talk to her? Where is she?" Janae rushed out, so desperate to hear just a second of Aaliyah's gentle and sweet voice.
"See, that's the thing, Janae. Uh, she's in the hospital still. She's been in a coma for a few weeks, and it's not looking very good. Her condition worsens as the days go by." Alec explained. It broke his heart saying this too, and to someone who loved and cared for Aaliyah nevertheless. Janae leaned against the wall, a hand falling over her mouth as she choked on a sob. The thought of never seeing, or hearing Aaliyah's voice and watching her face scrunch up when she laughs crossed her mind again. Why did this keep happening? First, she lost Poussey, and now she might lose the love of her life.
"Look, Janae, I need to know what prison you're at so I can come see you. Aaliyah would kill me if I didn't check up on you." Alec quickly rushed out. Yes, he heard the prison name when he said "accept" but his mind was rushing through so many possibilities amd thoughts, that he forgot what prison Janae was calling from. "Janae? You still there?" She didn't say anything, tears rolling down her cheeks as she hung up the phone.
It was pointless. Life was pointless without Aaliyah.

The sound of machines was heard, muffled though. She took in the smell of medicine, and that smell that surrounds the inside of every hospital. God did she hate that smell. And she hated hospitals. They simply reminded her of death and weakness. She hated it. It was sickening to her. Her throat was dry, like she hadn't drunken anything in ages. Almost like a vampire being drained of blood and life. Her lips surprisingly weren't chapped, they actually had a thin layer of Vaseline over them.
The last thing she could remember was her face hitting the cold dirty ground, immediately going unconscious after that. Now everything was coming to her. The riot. The shooting. The beating. Her friends. Her family. Janae. What happened to them? What happened to her? Why did this have to happen to her? Aaliyah slowly opened her eyes, immediately being hit by the fluorescent lighting of the hospital room. Gross. She hated the brightness. She always preferred the darkness.
She grimaced at the needle in her arm, she pulled it out with a huff, immediately groaning as she rubbed her arm. Slowly, removed the stuff attached to her before attempting to stand, immediately falling due to the weakness of her legs. Aaliyah rolled her eyes, "Now I regret skipping leg day," she muttered, pulling herself back to her feet.
As she sat back down she accidentally clicked a button, frowning, she noticed it was the call button. Great, now she was gonna be swarmed by a bunch of nurses. And in a minute tops, the door was pushed open, two nurses holding a look of shock. "I know I'm stunning ladies, but unfortunately for you, I'm already spoken for." Aaliyah's deep voice broke the tension in the air, her voice surprisingly quite deep from just waking up.
"I'll call the family," one of the nurses spoke towards her colleague before rushing out with a sense of urgency.
The other nurse, by the name of Kim, cleared her throat. "Well, how are we feeling, Ms. Channing?" Nurse Kim asks, quickly making sure Aaliyah was okay as she had pulled all the machines from her. "Like I awoken from a very long nap. Anyways, I don't care. I need a shower. I feel gross." Aaliyah mumbled, standing up, she ignored the nurse, grabbing a towel when suddenly, a cop had walked in. Liyah raised a brow at him before throwing her head back. "Fuck. I forgot. I'm still a federal inmate. That's fun."
"It's okay, she's just going to take a shower. There's no windows, she can't escape. You can wait outside, give her some space please." Nurse Kim said towards the cop, ushering him out to give the girl some privacy.
"Do I have any clothes here?" Aaliyah asked, hoping they weren't prison clothing. Luckily, for today, they weren't. Nurse Kim handed Aaliyah a bag of clothing. Liyah smiled, taking them and walking into the bathroom to take a much needed shower. As she sat in the shower, water falling onto her naked body, her mind drifted to Janae. A smile grew on her lips, excited for them to reunite. She couldn't wait to see Janae. That's all she was thinking about. Janae flooded her thoughts.
A knock was heard on the door, Aaliyah looked up. "Ms. Channing, your family is here to see you."

She was in a fucking coma. A fucking coma? What the actual fuck? And now, she was unfortunately cleared to leave the hospital, now being taken to Litchfield Maximum Security. You would think she'd be happy to be back at Litchfield, reuniting with Janae. But no, she wasn't. Because Janae wasn't there. And Alec still had no idea where she was. But he and Jeremiah were doing their best to track her down. She felt like her life was over if she was being honest. What was the point of living if she didn't have Janae by her side?
Fuck. Now that she really thought about it, she was in deep. She was legitimately in love, not some stupid teen story love, but real love. Aaliyah held a bag of clothing, wearing orange clothing as she was gonna be held in Ad Seg for at least a day until Ms. Figueroa figured out where she wanted to put Aaliyah. Which was why she was taking a visit to C-block for the day. She knew Aaliyah had come to see Carol before she got locked up so she was considering moving Aaliyah to D-block instead.
CO Ward was escorting the girl to her cell, the minute she walked in, all attention was on her, at least from people who actually knew her. Taystee stood up slowly, Aaliyah just kept her eyes on the ground, too depressed to say anything. Taystee knew why. It's cause Janae wasn't there. They passed by more cells, Nicky, Red, some other girl, Piper, Blanca, and Ruiz all took notice of the girl. Maria had assumed she was dead after what happened on the yard so it was a shock to see her back.
CO Ward opened the cell before unlocking Aaliyah's cuffs, gesturing her to go inside. Yeah, every guard there got a warning about the girl. They knew who she was, they knew her power. But it's not like they gave a fuck. Up the hill was a whole different area. It wasn't like Minimum, no it was far worse. And the guards were way worse. Majority of the COs didn't even know how she got sent to Minimum with her charges, but hey, having money and a powerful family can do that for you.
Aaliyah sat in the bed, careful of her ribs, they were still healing, obviously. She knew her trial was coming up soon, Alec being her lawyer and all. They were talking eight years for the riot, and ten for aggravated assualt with a deadly weapon. There was no way she was getting extra time at all, she knew Alec had it dealt with. And, thanks to Aaliyah, he got tons of clients for the riot, helping them get out of extra time for riot charges and even getting their sentences reduced.
"Who's the cookie? You know her?" Red looked up from her book, glancing at Badison who was reffering to Aaliyah, across the cell of theirs. "She's someone you don't wanna fuck with," said Red, this being the only thing she had to say. Badison didn't seem to care much, wanting to know what was up with the taller girl. "See, now that just makes me even more interested. What's her name? What'd she do?" Badison questioned, her eyes still on the brunette who had her eyes closed, humming a tune, most likely a Beyoncรฉ song.
Red signs, might as well answer since she clearly wasn't gonna drop the topic. "Aaliyah Channing. Arson, attempted murder, possible future charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Is that all, or do you want me to write you an essay?" Badison ignored her side comment at the end, squinting at Aaliyah, she looked and sounded so familiar. She just couldn't put her finger on it. But hey, she could be a good addition to the team. Maybe then, she could get on Carol's good side again.
Aaliyah could feel eyes on her, slowly she did open her eyes, she didn't even have to turn her head before flipping the middle finger, Badison looking appalled but quickly formed a smirk. "Oh yeah, Carol's gonna be begging to get on my good side." She mumbled to herself. Aaliyah dropping her hand to run it through her long curls. It reminded of when Janae would run her hands through Aaliyah's long hair, complaining about how it always got it her face. Everything reminded her of the girl.

It was the next day, Aaliyah didn't get much sleep, tossing and turning all night. It didn't help that it hurt to breath. Damaged ribs were probably the worst injury she could get. It hurt to breath all the time. It was the fucking worst. They pulled a few of girls out, plans of moving them to their respective blocks. Aaliyah was called out, following them, subconsciously standing next to Badison, behind Chapman and Ruiz who were talking.
Badison tapped the girl on the shoulder, Aaliyah internally rolled her eyes. "Touch me again and I'll break your other hand." She stated calmly, Badison raising a brow at her. "Yikes. What's got you in such a bad mood?" Badison mocks. Aaliyah stares ahead, trying to slow her breathing so it didn't hurt as much. "Look, you, whatever the fuck your name is, need to leave me the fuck alone. I am in pain, and I have bad fucking temper, so watch it." Aaliyah spat, this time looking the shorter girl straight in the eyes when she spoke.
"Damn, relax cookie. Just trying to make some new friends." Badison scoffs. "Well I don't want any, so back off." Aaliyah glanced back down at her cuffed hands, as Badison walked up front toward Chapman, making a small comment at Liyah, who simply ignored, not in the mood to entertain her any further. CO Alvarez gave them a warning before they stopped by D-block, Aaliyah silently hoping he didn't call her name. If she got put in D-block, she was an automatic target because of her relationship with Carol.
"D-block. Ruiz, Trejas, this is your stop." Aaliyah let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Luckily the universe was on her side today. They continued walking, stopping at C-block, thankfully. Badison got her cuffs off, walking into the block as three girls approached her. Aaliyah got her cuffs off last, being passed a bag with clothes and such and walking in after Piper and Flores. Aaliyah looked down at the floor, wishing she had pain meds right about now.
"Hey, you three, meet your new family." Badison turned to look at the three, Aaliyah not bothering to look up, findingย her nails more interesting. "These C-block bitches will either save your life, or make you wanna die." Well as long as they didn't push Aaliyah's buttons, then they wouldn't have to worry too much about the second option. Their choice. Badison gestured to Flores. "Family, this is...proof of evolution."
Badison gestured to Aaliyah next, "This one here, is Channing, like Channing Tatum." They all chuckled, Aaliyah finding them to be childish. Then she gestured to Piper. "This is Gapman. Smile, Gapman." She taunts, Piper smiling barely with her mouth still closed. "No, no, no, no, no. Show us your gap, Gapman." Badison makes an effort to pull up her lip, Piper backing away, her mouth subconsciously opening.
Eckelcamp laughs loudly, Badison turning to her. "Eckelcamp, what's so funny?" Aaliyah didn't know why a gap was considered funny when the other girl also had one. "Just...you said Gapman, and she has a gap." Aaliyah rolls her eyes, "Fuckin' children," she mumbled under her breath. Piper internally agreeing with her. Badison fake chuckles, "What you don't know is that her real name is Chapman. So it's super funny, but you didn't know that."
The girl was quick to apologize, mumbling a "sorry" to Badison. "You fuck with my timing when you laugh too early like that." CO Copeland walks in, causing Liyah to glance over at the ginger haired woman. She kind of blocked her out, her mind as per usual, thinking of Janae. Oh how Janae would hate these girls. Badison's voice pulled her from her thoughts. "Uh-oh, new girl got put with the boss. Let's see how long this one lasts."
Aaliyah couldn't help but smirk, she knew exactly who the boss was. What they didn't know was that she actually got pretty lucky. CO Copeland added something else, "Hoefler, you're in C210 now." She walked away, Piper and Blanca going off to as Aaliyah walked over to Copeland, asking her what number the bunk was again. She gave her the number, wishing her a good luck as well which Aaliyah found quite amusing.
She glances over at the scene, seeing Badison taunt Hoefler. "Aw. I don't get to be roomies with the baby killer no more? I'm gonna miss you, scary mommy." She imitates a baby voice, one of her little followers trips Hoefler, Liyah rolled her eyes. Another, very familiar voice spoke up, Aaliyah looking up from Hoefler fast. "Don't do that baby voice. You know I hate it." It was Carol, holding a red lollipop with a sour face. Clearly unamused by Badison antics. Badison gulps, "Sorry, Carol."
Aaliyah clears her throat, putting the attention on her. Carol eyed her, a small smirk grazing her lips as she pulled the lollipop from her mouth. "You look like shit," was the first thing that fell from her mouth.
