Sierra laid in the very back seat of the Twinkie van, the night had taken over with its indigo sky and shining stars, her head rested comfortable in JJ's lap. She listened as John B was listing off all the materials that they needed to claim the rest of their treasure while driving, the van was packed with different gadgets they all got in both legal and illegal ways, but all that mattered was the gold in the creepy wishing well that was under a creepier house. Definitely no pressure.
"Got a rope?"
"Yep."
"Grappling hook?"
"No grappling hook, we're not Batman." Sierra commented as she sighed, "But imagine if we were, our lives would be so much better, he has a whole batcave and a butler who does everything he says-"
"Sierra, you're getting sidetracked." Kiara interrupted with a chuckled which made the girl stop and go back to dream land she was in.
"Pulley?"
"Check."
"Dark clothes."
"Got it."
"Flashlights?"
"Ding!"
"All right, good." The van came to a halt in front of the same stone wall from the other day, the house still held an eerie and creepy feeling that only worsened with the lack of light. Crickets loudly chirped through the silence as they watched for a moment completely contemplating everything they were doing now and what they would be doing later.
"Well, let's go get rich guys." JJ spoke up as Sierra lifted her head from his lap, John B got out from his side and the teens look at each other with slight enthusiasm to ease the worry.
"Hell yeah."
"Go, boy's."
"And girls."
"Wait, wait, wait." John B whispered as he slid open the van door, he looked at every with a small, but thankful smile. "I wanna say thank you guys for being here, like, seriously, it means a lot that you're here tonight."
"This shit is way too corny," Sierra muttered as she swiftly climbed out the van while John B shoved her shoulder in childish annoyance.
"You're a bitch."
"I'm only joking Johnny." Sierra laughed as she shoved his shoulder in retaliation, "I'll be there whenever you need, we'll all be here."
"Agreed." Kiara piped in while climbing as well, the rest following behind her, they didn't say anything but John B could tell that they all agreed with Kiara's statement. It was a great thing they all shared, a silent conversation they could all understand, it was especially useful when Kiara or Sierra had to get away from some creepy guy uncomfortably flirting with them, one glance and the three boys form a small barrier around them to protect.
That same silent conversation was used to expression their loyalty to him, no matter what, "Let's go get that wheat in the water." Pope hopped out after finishing a quick bro-handshake with brunette.
"Weed I'm up for weed."
"Oh! Count me in."
"Wheat I said wheat." Pope scoffed as he corrected the two and watched as both of their expression dropped. "Idiots."
The girls made their way to the stone wall, Kiara gestured for Sarah to go first as a way to be respectful, or as a way to avoid being the first to die, though she'd never admit that. "After you."
"Ladies first." Sarah replied as she pulled onto the vines to pull herself up and over the wall, Kiara turned to Sierra and awaited her to go next.
"Are you serious?"
"What?" Kiara frowned at the girl as Sierra rolled her eyes and quickly climbed over in a few movements. She watched Kiara finally climb over with a subtle nervous look, her flashlight brightly beaming into dark woods in front of her.
"You nervous, Kie?"
"What, no!"
"I bet Mrs. Crain is going come for you first."
"Shut up, Si."
Sierra laughed softly while the group followed the same trail from the other day, it still have them the creeps, but ten times more since nothing but darkness engulfed everything that wasn't illuminated by their small and cheap flashlights. They stopped at the front of the house, all the windows her where covered by closed blinds and you could clearly see how the house fell apart, but the motion censor lights worked perfectly as they suddenly flashed on.
"Shit shit." The group all said the same word in a hushed and panicked tone while shuffling around to hide, they all huddled behind a large bush while also trying to turn off their flashlights.
"Flashlights, flashlights." Kiara whispered, they all managed to turn the flashlights off but JJ struggled for a couple of seconds as it flickered in his face. Sierra snatched it and switched it off since his own shaky hands barley could.
"Thanks, Pirate." JJ muttered as she handed back to him with a held back grin.
John B placed his fingers to his lips while also shushing them calmly, they all seemed to calm down in a matter of seconds but Pope and his raging anxiety looked around worryingly. "Okay...so, she has motion sensor lights."
"Yeah, no shit Sherlock."
"We could, uh...walk real slow...maybe." JJ suggested as the group all turned to look at him with furrowed brows and utter confusion painted on their expression.
"What?"
"What part of motion sensor lights do you not understand."
"Yeah, that's not how it works."
"Oh, shit." John suddenly gasped as an idea popped into his head, "We can throw a rock at it."
"What!?"
"That's a really good idea let the axe murder know that we're here." Kiara sarcastically commented with a straight face, so far, none males idea logical at all which would leave them to come up with some sort of diversion.
"Throw a rock at it?" Pope muttered in disbelief while glaring and John B, at least he had a smart mindset.
"Do you have a better idea?"
"Literally anything but that."
"Might as well scream for Mrs. Crain if you think throwing a rock at the lights is such an amazing idea."
"What about the breaker, in the Circuit box on the porch?" Sarah spoke up, "We used to play hide and seek here as kids, if we were brave enough we would go all the way up to the porch, I've seen it."
Sierra sighed in relief as she thought over the plan, it was way better then the ones JJ and John came up with. "Ah, what a relief, someone with an actual good solution."
"No, no, you're not going in the house alone." John argued back with a protective tone, he was definitely set on keeping Sarah safe but with the situation they were in they'd have to cross a few boundaries that could be dangerous and risky.
"Watch me."
"I personally agree, I'll even go with her if you're so worried about Blondie getting hurt." Sierra teased while wrapping an arm around Sarah's shoulder.
"Crain chops people into pieces, Sierra, I would be worried too."
"Even if that is true she's like 85, I mean I've beaten the shit out of Rafe twice, I can handle an old lady." Sierra replied smartly while crossing her arms.
"Wait," Sarah looked at the girl beside her, "when did you beat up brother and why wasn't I there"
"It's a long story, we got no time, we gotta get rich."
"I'll go with you two." Kiara also stood up as Sierra raised her brows in shock, "What, I may be shitting bricks but I still wouldn't want you to go alone."
"Well, the lord the merrier." Sierra shrugged and stood from her crouched position, the two girls followed after her before Pope spoke up.
"Okay, we'll wait for your signal."
"Okay, cool."
"Hey." John B gripped Sarah's wrist before she could go any further, he looked up at her with soft but concerned eyes, "Be safe."
"We will."
As the three left the hiding spot Sierra could still hear everything going on behind the bush.
"Be safe."
"I'll be so safe."
"Can you guys stop?"
"I'll be safe for you."
"Stop!" John B's stern whisper caused silence to overtake the air, "I'm gonna kill you."
"But how would that keep us safe?"
Sierra cautiously made her way through old path that led up to the porch, the leaves and sticks below her crunched each time her feet stepped on it, the flash lights in each of their hands lighting the pitch black maze. The vines and plants everywhere made them feel lost and even more creeped out but Sarah somehow managed to find the steps leading up to the front door.
"She must have a generator plugged into to the main power supply." Sarah commented, each step they took on the stairs made a loud creak but when finally arriving in front of a little box they slowly opened it and discovered nothing but old, rusty wires.
"What, where are the breakers!?"
"Oh, no no no no no"
"Shit!" Sierra glanced up and flashed her light towards a tube leading into the house, "Guys, it goes inside."
Hesitantly, Kiara slowly opened the door leading into the old, rotting house and Sierra bravely walked in first, then followed the two with cautious steps. It still didn't stop the loud creak coming from the ancient floorboards under their fear. The sound of a shrieking cat filled there ears causing them to all flinch and mutter curses under their breaths, then it went silent, creepily silent as they followed the tube on the ceiling, they walked the hallways with shaky breaths but also determination to finish this shit and get their reward. The trio reached a metal box which held the switches that they were looking, they all glanced at each other happily as Sierra slowly opened it. Each button she flipped made a loud click making her cringe at the loudness, Sarah and Kiara watched as the lights from outside faded out.
They all smiled and chuckled priory until they heard a noise, a painfully loud whirring and the chime of a clock, each of them hid behind the wall examining around to spot anybody—they prayed it was nothing and not a goddamn axe murder in her eighties. Unfortunately for them, their wishes got shoved down the sewer as shuffling began making there way down stairs, the sound of a women wheezing and coughing following it.
"It's getting late Leon." The woman coughed out as a beat of silence filled the air, "Too late."
"Shit." Sarah muttered under her breath, a figure walked right into the room they were standing and they tried your hardest not to even breathe, they whimpered and silently cried as the old lady kept coughing out words.
"I can hear you, Leon, I've been waiting all night!" Within a span of a few seconds the women had suddenly whipped around as grey, clouded eyes met theirs. They swiftly ran out the room each screaming in fear, Sierra and Kiara went into a room only to find a dead end blocked by multiple wooden planks.
"Shit.
"No, no, no, are you fucking shifting me!" Sierra cursed as she roughly kicked the door in angry and desperation. The blind woman followed the noise and found her way into the same room as the girls, she began waving a fire picker aimlessly but dangerously as she barley missed their limbs by a hair.
With each strangely hard swing she smashed and broke different objects while they dodged each one, Sarah found them and tried helping but was nearly hit too.
"Kiara, Sarah, go!" Sierra yelled while she quickly reached forward and tugged away the weapon from the old woman's hand, "I'll be fine!" She was able to stall the woman long enough for Sarah and Kiara to escape. Right as Sierra backed away the old women launched has somehow gotten a new weapon and launched forward unexpectedly and stab a straight line across Sierra's front. The girl cried out in pain before she ran out, she also made sure to shut the door, as her arm covered the large wound by forming some sort of pressure with her hand.
"Fuck me." She hissed in pain while maneuvering back out the house and down to rest of the group, she watched as each of them tugged the rope in an attempt to pull John B's body back up. Without a second thought she pushed through pain and gripped the end of the rope.
A spark lit up the room as a loud gun shot echoed into their ears.
"Guys what the hell!" The brunette voice echoed
"Hurry up, Johnny!" Sierra shouted tugging at the rope hard causing it to burn her hands.
"Sierra hide!" JJ ordered sternly as Pope tied the rope down to hold it still, the girl cursed quietly and scrambled behind a clutter of dusty furniture. Her eyes widening when a spider from one of the cob webs neared her leg, she scooted away but that caused her back to hit something else, a whole dominio effect happened as the object fell to the floor and caused the old women to shoot at the noise.
It missed Sierra by a few inches, her eyes widened as she glanced at the Mrs. Crain, the women waved the gun around aimlessly waiting, the realization hit the teen. "She's blind!" She yelled, "We gotta go, but right now"
All together the group ran out their hiding spots and towards the exit, Sierra went to the well, John struggled to climb the rest of the way up but managed when she reached her hand out. The girl winced slightly as pain shot up her stomach when she pulled John up, but she pushed past it since Mrs. Crain was still shooting like a mad women.
John and Sierra sprinted out the basement quickly, running faster then they ever did when they were being chased by a fat cop for breaking into an abandoned hotel or when her and JJ stole from a nearby liquor store. Her lungs burned as more gun shots rang in her ear and flew past her head, when they began to to climb over the cobblestone wall Sierra struggled, a small whimper fell from her lips as the blood seeped through her shirt, but it was hard to see stains in black.
John effortlessly climbed the wall from the hundreds of times before not realizing that the brunette was falling behind. The moving van caught his sight, a smile grazed his lips, they all shouted for him to hurry his legs quickened along with his breaths till he reached the van with a final leap. The cheers died down as they noticed the absence of one more person, Sierra, she was right behind them still running but not as quick, her stamina was on its last bit, her blurry vision watching as the van grew farther.
"Where's Sierra!" Kiara questioned in a panicked tone, the boy furrowed his brows, "Where the hell is she?"
The van breaked violently, JJ turned his head to the back, his eyes scanned, but no sign of the face he knew most. "John B be where is she."
"I don't know she was behind me then-" Sierra's hand slammed onto the open van door, the blood that covered her hand stained it as her heavy breaths caught there ears.
She climbed in quickly her back hitting the van floor, "You assholes were really about to leave me?" She smiled through the pain, and the dizziness all across her body, had the van not stopped her body would've gave up and collapsed.
"Well..." Pope began with a small smile.
"No." Kiara slapped his chest and sent him a glare, "No, we weren't."
"Jesus Christ." Sarah ran her hands through her hair and chuckled lightly. "That shit was...intense, what the hell just happened!"
"All-time Pogue hall of fame baby!" JJ yelled as he started up the van again, speeding way beyond the speed limit.
"Yep." Sierra hummed, she would've been more enthusiastic if it weren't for her low energy level.
"That bitch is possessed!"
"That bitch can't aim!"
"That bitch almost killed me."
All of a sudden John B pulled out a shiny, muddy bar of....gold?
"What is that."
"No you didn't!"
"We did it baby!" John B exclaimed loudly, their voice would probably be out by the next morning.
"Oh my god!"
"Wait, wait guys!" Kiara stuck her arms out gaining the attention of the teens, she paused only to gain suspense. "We're gonna be rich, like kook rich!"
Sierra blinked trying to find an ounce of excitement in her body yet all that ran through her veins was pain, familiar pain at that, she didn't miss the feeling that bubbled at the pit of her stomach as she slipped in an out of consciousness. Instead of the sound of her screaming mother it was the screaming of her friends, the ones she loved, but that didn't help the blood pouring out her abdomen.
—
"Si, sierra, pirate." The familiar voice softly spoke, gently they shook the girls arm, "Come on, wake up."
The young teen let out a low hum as she managed to flutter her eyes open, then it struck like a pile of bricks, the pain all over. "Fuck." She muttered which caught JJ's attention.
"She lives!"
"JJ you don't know how to handle this type of shit, do you?" Kiara snapped at the boy who had his arms in the air and a relieved smile on his face.
"Clearly." He replied brightly just happy that the girl had woken up from her long slumber.
"What happened." Sierra questioned not even attempting to sit up, she learned her lesson from being in the exact same position many times.
"Well JB found the gold, you lost a lot of blood, JJ had 4 panic attacks, Kiara had to drive, we visited JJ's cousin because he didn't want to take you into the hospital for some dumb ass reason-" Pope ranted on about what she missed but before he could at about her thing Soerra interrupted.
"JJ doesn't trust hospitals."
"It is still a dumbass reason but your patched up but you'll have a scar, and it'll be really noticeable cause the granny got you good." Pope finished with a loud breath while Sierra grinned.
"Guess that makes me sexier in bikini's."
"He also said to take some of this, you'll be in lots of pain so.." Pope dropped the bottle of pain relievers onto the make-shift night stand, "There to go." He jogged back outside with JJ and John while the girls stayed inside in order to keep Sierra company.
It was silent as Sarah and Kiara stared down at the so-called 'blueprint' while a torch and a small tube full of melted gold laid beside them.
"Who the hell drew that?" Sierra quietly giggled while Kiara nodded out the open window to Pope, who once again was ranting on about something.
"Who do you think?"
"Ooo, I know that look, someone has a crush!" Sierra distracted her mind by making as many jokes as possible. "Cutie patooties."
"Shut up, Si, I don't have a crush on Pope!" Kiara defended as she looked aback down at the blueprint, ignoring the smirk on Sierras face.
The loud footsteps of JJ's boots trudged into the room, for about the 30th time that morning, just checking if Sierra was alive. "Well, well." Sarah chuckled as he peeked in his head.
He cleared his throat awkwardly once the three sets of eyes stared at him, awaiting a reasoning for his visit. "I have the gold, and the plan better work, we can't pawn it if it has a huge wheat symbol on it."
"Drop the act, JJ, we all know why you're here." Kiara teased as the blonde threw the gold onto the bed and shoved his hands into his pockets. "She doing fine."
"Yeah, Jay, look." Sierra lifted her hands, throwing him a peace sign to show her slow healing. "I look pretty hot for nearly being killed by a crazy granny."
The boy softly chuckled, "Pretty damn hot."
"Gross." Sarah scrunched her nose in distaste.
"You should've seen JJ last night, I swear he nearly fought his own cousin 'cause he had to take your shirt off to see the cut." Kiara explained as Sierra giggled, JJ rolled his eyes.
"Okay, listen, I love my 'cuz but seeing my girl in her bikini is a little too much, am I the only one!?"
"JJ, he literally said that he needed a clear view of her wound, he obviously needed to remove her shirt." Kiara argued back as he huffed and crossed his arms in annoyance.
"He's pouting." Sierra laughed.
"Well, we have some gold to melt so we'll leave you guys to discuss whatever gross stuff you like to discuss." Kiara grabbed the torch and gold as the two girls made their way back outside.
JJ went to the other side of the bed, climbing to sit beside her, he smiled at her beauty, despite her pained expression, unruly hair, and some dirt still on her face he believed that she was gorgeous. The prettiest girl he's ever seen.
"Quit staring, Jay." Sierra muttered as she looked up at his bright eyes.
"Why, does it make you nervous?" He pecked her lips and smirked as she blushed, Sierra swore that JJ's mission in life was to make her as flushed as possible. Every second he would always say something so outta pocket and casually whisper it into her as if it was some gossip he heard at school. She never knew how he did, but every light touch on her hip, every look into her eye, the brush of his fingers through her hair made her shiver.
"Only a little." Sierra hit her lip and looked up at him once more, from her laying position and his figure sitting up against the headboard JJ was much taller. "Hey, Jay, I have a question."
"Do tell."
"So, we've kissed, held hands, hooked up." Sierra listed as the boy snorted. "Would that makes..like a couple, because that sounds very couple-y, but we've never really put a label on it?"
JJ pause and thought for a second, he then nodded in agreement, "We haven't put a title on, you want to, like officially?"
Sierra nodded while a wide smile as JJ smiled back and sat up properly, straight into his hat and wiping his face of any excess dirt he may have. "Sierra, would you do the honors of being my girlfriend."
"Mhmm." Sierra reached up to grab his face and collided their lips.
