James stood by the entrance of the library, his usual cocky smirk plastered on his face as he spotted Cordelia poring over a book. He sauntered over to her, his steps confident and purposeful.
"Hey, Delly," he said, his voice smooth and laced with familiarity.
Cordelia rolled her eyes, her annoyance evident even without looking up from her book. "What do you want?" she huffed, her tone cold and dismissive.
James seemed unfazed by her frosty reception. "You. Me. Date." he said, his smirk widening into a charming smile, as he leaned against the bookshelf.
Cordelia finally looked up, her eyes narrowed in irritation. "For the umpteenth time, Potter, a no is a no. I don't want to deal with you or your atrocious behaviour," she replied with a firm tone.
A flicker of hurt flashed across James' face, but he quickly covered it up with his usual cocky facade. "Calm down, sweetcheeks," he said with a nonchalant shrug, masking his disappointment."Just thought I'd give it another shot."
As James turned to leave, a new voice interrupted their conversation. Lacy, Cordelia's new friend, spoke up. Her gentle voice broke the tension in the air.
"Don't you think you were too harsh, Cordelia?" she asked, her tone filled with concern.
Cordelia tensed at Lacy's question, a hint of guilt in her eyes. She let out a sigh, the irritation still lingering on her face.
"It got the job done, didn't it?" she replied coldly, her words sharp and guarded.
James Potter, the once incessant flirt, found himself unable to win Cordelia's heart. Instead of his usual smooth advances, he resorted to insults, calling her "vanilla" and "heartless git." Cordelia, however, effortlessly kept up with her own barrage of cutting remarks, using big words that left James baffled.
James met Lily Evans, a girl who was kind, sweet, and caring. She was also intelligent and beautiful, but not as beautiful as Cordelia. Even though she rejected him, she was kinder about it, and James saw potential in getting to know her better.
James found himself drawn to Lily, as she resembled Cordelia in many ways. They shared similar characteristics, leaving James to realize that maybe he had a certain predisposition towards a specific type. Despite the rejection, he remained hopeful and decided to direct his attention towards pursuing a connection with Lily instead.
The shift in James' focus from Cordelia to Lily became evident as he continued to interact with her. He spent more time talking to Lily, trying to understand her personality and interests, in hopes of sparking a genuine connection.
James, assisted by Sirius, was in the process of setting up a prank for Professor McGonagall. Remus and Peter, however, doubted the wisdom of their endeavor.
"I don't think this is a good idea," Remus whispered anxiously.
"Come on, Rem, don't be a wimp," Sirius retorted. "We won't get suspended; we're only in second year!"
Remus protested, "But what if we do get into trouble? We can't risk getting suspended so early."
Peter, caught between his friends and reluctant to side against them, nodded hesitantly.
Meanwhile, Cordelia and Lacy were strolling down the hallway when they unknowingly stumbled into the prank. The lever was tripped, causing a cascade of flour to cover Cordelia's face. She looked up to see James, who was perched on a ladder, nervously laughing.
Sirius urgently muttered to James, "James, run for it!"
James heeded the advice and quickly took off, with Cordelia hot on his heels.
