I poured the milk into my cereal. It was pretty late in the day to be having cereal since I just came back from school, but that didn't stop me.
"Funny, you made me like cereal for lunch too." a voice behind me said. It startled me. I jumped causing the milk to spread all over the counter. I turned around to view who the voice belonged to. My eyes widened. Sapphire blue eyes, dark hair, freckles. This was Alexandra Smith. I'm dreaming. I pinched myself. Nothing. Nothing to assure me this was a dream and I wasn't being deceived by who was sitting in the brown leather chair. I decided to go along with it.
"Who are—"
"I'm pretty sure you know who I am," she replied cutting me off.
"And me!" said another deep voice. I looked slightly left. Light blue-violet eyes, the same dark hair, and freckles. Oh. My. God. Okay, this can't be true. I thought to myself. I must be dreaming. Eric and Alexandra Smith truly cannot be standing in front of me.
You should have seen this coming. Said a tiny voice in my head. You gave these siblings the power to transport through worlds. You are the creator. You are their author.
"Stop it," I commanded to the feeble voice. I must have said that out loud because Alex and Eric answered in unison.
"Stop what?" They asked.
"Nothing," I replied.
"Umm, I have a question..." stated Alex.
"What is it?" I tried to sound as happy as I could that characters from my own story have somehow come to visit me. Powers. I reminded myself. Powers to transport through worlds. But my vocal cords betrayed me as they preferred a more confused and saddened tone.
"Why did you give up on us?" said Eric frowning. Give up on them? What did they- oh. I was painfully reminded of how I gave up on their story somewhere in the middle. They never received their happy ending. I made their world fall apart and never bothered to put it back together. I felt a sudden pang of guilt and pity for them.
"I'm sorry. I never meant for it. There were just too many things happening and I needed a break. When I came back to continue your story I well- didn't know how to so I just gave up." I quickly realized my foolishness and searched for a way to make it up for them. "Would you like me to give you your more than deserved happy ending?" I offered not knowing what else I could do.
Alex and Eric beamed. "That's exactly why we came here."
"Okay." I pulled out my computer and started to type, then stopped. "What would you like your ending to be?" Their eyes were probably bigger than saucers.
"You're letting... us choose?" Eric asked in disbelief.
"Of course!" I smiled. "It's the least I could do. Only if you promise me you'll visit me again." I smirked.
"Yes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" said Alex in a fast, jumbled mess hugging me.
"You're more than welcome."
And with that, I typed away letting Eric and Alex guide me to their destiny.
