TWO

.Noor Hydari.

As I stared at the box, a quirky feeling made it's way in my stomach and I flinched at that feeling. "From Gill's"

I set the box aside and then made my ways to my room. As soon as I reached the room, I straight went to my bed. I sat on it and then laid back.

The ceiling and I are staring at each other. And I am fighting the thought of opening the box but at the same time I know If I do so. I will end up regretting.

I pull up from the bed and end up sitting beside the box. I keep staring at it as if the box will speak up to me.

As I reach out for the box. My phone rings and I'm startled by the sudden voice. I look at the phone. A message from Amara.

"Did she also sent the box to you too?" Amara said. She?

I immediately reach for the box and opened it in one go. A postcard is what I first spotted. Basically a letter. Beneath it is a box of sweets. Mithai. I pull it open. The smell of the mithai sends me back to my old days. Panjab.

I set it aside and then I look at a bigger card. More like a wedding invitation card. I picked it and read it out loud.

"Shahneel Gill weds Sahel Arora."

My heart beat stopped for a moment at the name and the memories immediately flooded in my mind consuming me with sadness and wholesome.

I take a deep sigh and then read the names again to assure myself, that if I read it wrong but no, I had read correct.

I slowly pull the letter card and then turn it to see "from-yours Shah."

Suddenly my heart started to beat faster. As if it will come out anytime. Strange that I'm feeling this after so many years.

I opened the card and saw beautiful italic writing. I slowly caressed the page.  It's Shahneel's handwriting.

On the top it was written "my dearest Noor."

From the day that you decided to leave your past behind and start a new journey, I cannot resist myself from thinking about you every other minute, years have passed and you have achieved what you always wanted. You moved on. You moved on from everything.
From us too, Noor. Whenever I pass by your old house the days we have spent together flood in my head and then I can't resist but think about you. I wanted to talk to you and ask you that are you okay? Yes you have moved on but did you really? But then the realisation hits that you literally distant yourself from us.

But setting everything apart, I would like to tell you that,

this day have come and I'm happy to announce that I and Sahel are marrying in few weeks. Yes, our teenage love has finally turned into a 'to be husband and wife' relationship.

I would love if you will come and attend our wedding. It's been years and it's finally the time, we can catch up.

I know you don't want to come back here and relive through the past you have escaped but you have to come at least just for me. Yeah?
Hoping for your answer.

Yours Shahneel.

I set the letter aside and drop my face in my hands. Tears are on its way. I know. I slowly start to tremble, my hands shook as my heart beat raised.

Shahneel Gill and I were childhood best friends. I had met her when I shifted to Chandigarh when I was 6. She was my neighbour. On our very first day, I had bumped on her unknowingly. And from that day only we were soulmates. We went in the same school, we ate together and spent most of our time together. We were the ones that were very hard to separate.

In those years, I met Sahel, Khushpreet and Shubman. Shubman, the brother of Shahneel. We 5 were the best friends apart from the weird relationship that I had with Shubman.
He was never good to me. He was always rude and staring at me as If I was his rival. Khushpreet and Sahel on the other hand were the sweetest. They were never mean to me, they always assured me with their love. Amara years later met us in school and joined us making it a group of six.

Everything was good till then because after that only, my life decided to turn upside down. I was 14 by then when an incident took place and it ruined my life.

I was startled by the sudden knock on my main door that left me gasping. I went to check on it to see Amara standing at my doorstep.

"Are you alright Noor? You saw my message but didn't replied." She said as she came inside the house.

She sat on sofa and I gave her a glass if water. "Yea I am, was just checking the letter she basically sent everyone ." I said and Amara held the letter and looked at it with her eyebrows drawn together.

"She did send a letter to me too but she didn't wrote such things. She just wrote something like she want me to come attend her wedding. But she actually wrote a whole paragraph for you." She said.

I rolled my eyes and sat beside her "So, what have you thought?" She asked after a long pause.

"I don't know. What about you?" I asked and she looked up at the ceiling.

She pressed her lips together and said "I think we should." She said and looked at me.

"We should what?" No I don't want to hear that.

"We should go Chandigarh and attend their wedding." She said and I rolled my eyes.

"Noor, it's been years and everyone has forgot what happened. It's our best friend's wedding for god sake-

"Best friend? We haven't even met her in all these years."

"Noor come on na, she was our best friend. We spent so many years together. What happened, just happened it was no one's fault."

Amara was always so happy for Shahneel's relationship. She wanted them to end up together and now when they are marrying, it's so sure that Amara will go there at any cost.

After several arguments, Amara won. So, Now we are in my room writing a letter to Shahneel to her that we are arriving there in a week.
