"And where have you been, for heaven's sake?"
In an effort to calm her mother down, Nixie gently closed the door. When she turned back, she saw her mother standing there, one hand on the bench and the other holding a glass of wine.
"I was praying in a church, asking God to intervene on behalf of the impoverished people in our town." As she pulled her shoes off at the threshold, she spoke.
"Nixie, stop being such a brat. You were hanging out with those Pogues again." Laynie Hawthorne remarks while sipping her beverage.
She never seemed to be without a glass in her hand, drinking all day. It's likely that her knack for real estate sales stemmed from the fact that her inebriation gave her personality.
"And what's the big deal if I was hanging out with my friends? You were on the cut side until you met Beckett." Nixie stated as she moved across the kitchen.
Irving Cyrus was a Pogue who, up until he met another Pogue named Laynie Deacon, spent much of his time in the sea. The pair fell in love right away. That was the birth of Nixie, but it also marked the end of the fairytale and the absence of Irving Cyrus from the narrative.
When Beckett Hawthorne entered, Laynie felt like a whole new person. become a complete bitch who believed she was superior to everyone. All Nixie longed to see was the mother she knew before she turned into a kook, the person Irving would detest.
"We're enjoying a better life here in Nixie than we did on the Cut side; if you were more grateful about your current location, we wouldn't be having these discussions." Her mother spoke softly, but she understood that the intention was to sound a little serious.
"You made the decision to cut off that side of your life and make yourself look important, not me." Nixie eplied as she headed upstairs with a bottle of water that she had taken from the refrigerator.
"Nixie, please close your windows. I don't want this hurricane to harm my furniture, and tell your brother that if he keeps playing that terrible racket, his stereo will be thrown out." Nixie slammed the door to her bedroom, fully ignoring whatever her mother said next.
"All right, Gasper, how about we watch the 100 again and hope for the best?" She talked to her cat, who only stretched out before returning to slumber.

Nixie opened her eyes and heard noises from every corner of her house. She sighed as she sat up from where she had fallen asleep. She lifted her head to realise that her television had cut off during the night, and she was somehow thankful.
She strolled up to her balcony and opened the doors, looking down to observe the devastation caused by the hurricane, which appeared to be have done a good job. She looked down and saw her mother talking to Ward Cameron, of all people.
Nixie quickly returned to her room before becoming embroiled in that conversation. She strolled into her closet and immediately changed. Putting on a two piece swimsuit, She donned a shark anatomy shirt and shorts with moon and star designs over it. She wore Nike shoes and a zigzag headband on her head.
She grabbed her phone and kissed the top of her cat's head before exiting her room and dashing down the stairs. "Nix where are you off to in such a hurry." She cursed herself as she heard her stepfather's voice.
She gave him a halfhearted smile as she turned around. "My friend Kiara and I are going to hang together. I believed I could be of assistance to her parents at the wreck because they need it." She stated.
"All right, then, but don't stay out late tonight." He spoke for a moment before turning around to carry on with his activity. With a groan, Nixie went to the front door, opened it, and hurried out of there.
When Nixie heard Ward Cameron and her mother conversing, she stopped walking down her driveway. To find out exactly what they were discussing, she moved to the side of the house.
"Well, Ward, I'm not concerned about it. He has clearly lost his mind and has most likely drank himself to death." Nixie's mother murmured, raising an eyebrow in perplexity. Regarding whom were they speaking of?
"It goes without saying that she will search for him by knocking on doors. What will transpire when she knocks on your door?" Nixie moved in closer to hear Ward better.
"She should have known better to come ask about him here; he's nothing special, Just like the rest of them." Laynie said, but as they turned to leave the side of the house, their discussion grew stale.
She began to become suspicious; who in the world were they talking about, and why didn't her mother seem to care if this person was dead?

Author's notes
Thus, Nixie's Mom is keeping things hidden. With the arrival of Ward Cameron, not everything in the Hawthorne home is as it seems, but everything will become clear as the narrative progresses. I promise you, the journey will be wild from now on.
