you are an absolutely stunning, murderous little creature
AN EYE FOR AN EYE
DRIFTSMARK
Rhaenerya stood with her children. aemma situated next to her mother with an arm around lucerys well jacaerys stood to their mothers empty side. vaemond velaryon spoke of his niece, as they began to lay laena velaryon's, her aunt, body into the sea. sombre looks overtook the royals, none comparing to that of laenor, her father though. the small girl gripped his hand tightly as she shied away into the crook of his arm. laenor knew aemma looked nothing like his own but raised her as if she were and loved her just the same.
she could feel a stare from beside her uncle and quickly peaked her head out to see her uncle aegon, 2 years her senior staring her down with a look she couldn't decipher. it wasn't the first time he had looked at her like this and she doubted it'd be the last. she could only roll her eyes despite the setting and go back into her fathers protection.
she had few encounters with her aunt but whenever she did, laena was more than happy to see the girl. nearly everyone on drifts mark and westeros saw the resemblance rhaenerya's children had to a certain strong man but laena never let this affect her attitude towards the children. a mothers love spreads to all with whom they cared for.
After laena's body was layed to rest with the ocean to which her ancestors were born from, she stood beside her younger brother jacaerys staring out at the oceans edge. their mother was quick to approach them after a quick scape of the area.
"have you seen your father?" she asked placing hands on the crooks of the children's neck. jace did not lift his head and aemma merely shook hers as she'd been occupied with the way the waves crashed amongst one another. "your little cousins have lost their mother. they could use a kind word" she whispered to jace who just then decided to lift his head to look his mother in the eye.
"I have an equal claim to sympathy" the younger boy said maintaining eye contact. aemma knew exactly what he meant and couldn't help but sigh out before turning to face back to the ocean.
"jace" rhaenerya said softly to the boy, knowing of whom he was speaking to.
"we should be at Harrenhal, mourning lord lyonel and ser harwin" ser harwin. her real father. her mothers old lover and her sworn protector. she may have been young and naรฏve but she was no fool, it had happened around two years ago when she realised the uncanny resemblance her brothers and herself held to the man. she had kept her mouth shut though, knowing better than to speak on matters which would cause a havoc in the court if revealed.
"it would not be appropriate dear brother" aemma spoke as she straightened her back, not daring to face her mother. a slight part of her wishing the same as jace.
"the velaryon's are our kin and the strong's are not" rhaenerya spoke with authority, crouching to the boys height "do you understand?" before pushing the boy towards his younger cousins.
the woman with ice white hair made eye contact with queen alicent before deciding to turn back to her oldest. a soft hand made its way to her unusually long hair which was darker than the earths mud before soft strokes began.
"and how are you, my sweet girl?" her aemma. her first baby. if anyone were to ever question her daughters legitimacy they'd just have to look into her violet eyes and they'd see the targaryen blood flowing through her veins.
a mother may never love anyone how they love their first child.
"I am content with my whatever I feel, mama" the girl said turning to send a soft smile to her mothers now crouched figure. rhaenerya knew the girl was no idiot, she knew of her heritage and who her father was. and that worried her. but she wasn't one to pry, her daughter wore a mask half of the time.
"I must go find lucerys, mother" the young girl spoke before taking her leave. she did not want to speak of the matter of ser harwin strong and knew her younger brother would be having a hard time processing all of this. he was her luke , he needed her right now.
the girl walked with her head held high and her eyes aimed straight, passing all the folk who had come for laena's goodbye. she felt the eyes of alicent and ser criston cole on her. a scowl adorning the queens face and an emotionless one on ser criston cole's. she felt the urge to scoff as their eyes did not leave her figure once but instead she knew best to keep her mouth shut.
due to her mind being occupied with the auburn haired woman she felt herself bump into a slightly taller body. a hair of white filled her vision and made herself steady quickly. her uncle aegon turned to her ready to shout before a smirk covered his features.
"dear niece, look how the fates have brought us together!" he said, obviously intoxicated with whatever was being handed out by the servants. aemma only stared at his blankly.
in her years of getting acquainted with the boy, despite him being only 2 years her senior she knew she were far more mature than the boy. aegon had this ridiculous idea in his head that the two were fated to be together in the stars, an idea she rejected.
"do you know where my brother is?" she asked ignoring what he had said of them being fated, not in the mood for his games.
the boy swung his drink down his throat before shaking his head, her sign she could leave. she began to walk around the boy before hearing his clattering footsteps behind her. "honestly, you should not drink so much, I can smell your breath as if it were my own leaving my lips"
the boy chuckled at his nieces comment not taking offence but only finding amusement when speaking to her, the only thing he could ever find during their conversations. he knew she didn't like him, but aegon thought he loved her. in a way his mother claimed to love his father.
"you wound me, aemma" the boy said placing a hand over his chest, where his heart beat loudly in his chest. his halt in footsteps made the younger girl stop, turning to face the wretched boy.
"how about this, you meet me in my chambers tonight and we can have a feast!" his suggestion she knew to be wrong, he himself knew this. it would tarnish both of their reputations if anyone were to think something to happen between the two. aegon did not care though, he was viserys' first son and a spoiled brat.
"leave me alone, you insufferable pest" the girl spat before finally taking her final leave knowing he would not follow. the older boy only scrunched his eyebrows at her decline and shrugged his shoulders. "I love you sweet niece!" he shouted at her departing smaller figure as she disappeared between bodies.
it seemed that as she found lucerys, her mother had also found him and jace. the two boys stood beside their cousins, baela and rhaena with their grandmother rhaenys consoling the two girls. she could read her mothers lips from her position and saw as she ordered them to bed.
at the same time her father was brought up the castle's stairs by a man she had never learnt the name of. the bottom half of his body soaked completely, as though he'd had tried to exchange himself to the ocean for something in return.
"father" she said concerned as she rushed to his side, everyone's eyes on the man and the small girl approaching his side. some mutters shared as she took to his side and guided him inside. a stumbling aegon not far in front of her.
lord corlys stared after his son and granddaughter with nothing but sympathy. he could hear of the whispers of her legitimacy, not finding it hard since people had given up with trying to keep their suspicions to themselves.
"all of you, quiet!" the man yelled out in frustration noticing the other velaryon children start to take notice to the hushed voices. they were still his grandchildren despite the circumstances.
aemma heard them as well but had not much worry for other people's opinions, her fathers health more important.
Shook awake from her sleep aemma felt herself being tugged from her bed in her chamber, her younger brothers hands latching her own as they followed their two cousins towards the dragons pit. the girl still in her night dress was confused as to what was going on.
"someone stole vhagar!" baela exclaimed as she turned to the three velaryon siblings, aemma's eyes lit up in confusion as she picked up her gown and rushed to the two girls side. vhagar had been laena's dragon and was meant to be rhaena's.
the five children hurried their steps through the quiet castle as they descended the steps to the torch lit pit. "it's you" rhaena said as she halted.
aemond stopped in his steps as he surveyed the five others in front of him. aemma only stared at the boy as he removed his cloak and bunched it in his own hands. as she tried to avoid aegon she did the same to aemond, the only difference was the boy ignored her back.
"it's me" the targaryen boy said smugly walking forwards.
"vhagar is my mothers dragon" rhaena said as she stood beside baela, aemma standing in front of her brothers with a protective hand on each of their arms.
"your mothers dead, and vhagar has a new rider now" he said plainly, his attitude already getting on aemma's nerves. he was a few months older than the girl and the two had nothing of the sorts in common. aemond was nothing but cold.
"she was mine to claim!" the younger targaryen girl said taking a step forwards.
"then you should've claimed her. maybe your cousins can find you a pig to ride" the boy said spitefully, his words aimed at the boys making aemma rack her memory to what he had meant "it would suit you"
jace avoiding her questioning eyes only caused her frustration to grow. aemma's attention was focused back to rhaena as she groaned before going to push the boy, however he was stronger and threw her to the ground. the throw struck something in baela as she threw a punch at the boy, his body flinging back before he sent one to her own face.
seeing her cousins fall to the ground caused aemma to rush forwards kicking the boy in the kneecap, causing him to drop to his knee. however, he was quick to grab her own leg through her gown and yank her to the ground, her head hitting the hard sand floors.
"leave my sister alone!" jace yelled before rushing forwards and punching the boy straight in the nose as he regained his balance, both boys beginning to throw punches before aemond punched jace hard enough he as well fell.
baela's cries were heard as she clutched her bleeding nose in the corner, followed along by lucerys' yell as he launched himself at the older boy. aemma lifted herself up to come to her baby brothers aid but was not quick enough as a bone crunching sound was heard as aemond's fist connected with luke's nose.
hearing her brothers cries as he rolled around in the dirt beside her caused a rage to burn in her heart, a scream leaving her throat as she all but jumped on aemond's side and scraped her nails down the side of his face, his own hands going to pull her hair to get her off his body.
the girls startling violet eyes shone in the dark cavern as the two fought with each other, baela and luke both trying to stop blood from seeping into their mouths and rhaena clutching her throbbing cheek. aemond felt something stir in his stomach as his own eyes kept catching aemma's, something which startled him. he was scared. gaining enough strength he rushed into the wall, knocking all the wind out of her body causing her to drop.
baela, jace and rhaena all rushed for the boy tackling him to the ground, throwing punches and slaps, aemond covering whatever he could from the three. he lifted his right foot and knocked jace off first before pushing the two girls off. luke came next trying to attack the boy but aemond's hand clutched the boys neck, this not stopping luke from trying to hit the older boy. aemond stood, hands still gripping luke's throat, grabbing a rock from his side lifting it above the boys head.
"you will die in flames" he spat with nothing but disgust "just as your father did" the blonde's words causing jace to clench his fists. aemma's throbbing head lifting with dread filled eyes.
"bastards." and there was that word again.
"my fathers still alive" luke cried out through bloodied choke's, aemond's hand with the rock drops down as he stares at aemma then jace then aemma again.
"he doesn't know does he? lady strong" his words causing a animalistic growl to leave aemma's lips as jace pulled out his blade from his side. no one would speak of ser harwin strong with their hands around her brothers throat.
jace went to strike the boy as baela yelled out in fear "jace", aemond forgetting luke and dropping the small boy. aemma pulled him to her side before pushing him towards their cousins. jace continued to try and strike the boy before aemond lifted the rock and aimed straight at jace's head knocking her brother down.
the blade flew straight in front of aemma, her small hands picked it up with an iron tight grasp as she steadied herself. jace looked around at his brother, his cousins and his sisters before seeing the small glint. aemond approached slowly ready to land a killing blow before jace made a quick-thinking decision throwing a handful of sand in aemond's eyes.
aemma yelled and shut her own eyes before running towards aemond and swiping the blade down across his face. a pain filled scream left his lips as she dropped the bloodied blade to the floor. she wasn't horrified at her own actions, only shocked it had been so easy.
she had stood still as she watched the blood pour so quickly from aemond's face, lots of it dripping down her own, deciding to rest on her lips. she felt vile rise in her throat before she turned to the wall and began to throw up all but her guts.
jace rushed to her aid to hold her as she crouched and emptied the contents of her stomach. heavy footsteps were heard entering the cavern as a guards voice boomed over aemond's cries.
"cease all of this at once!"
