Chapter 72 ~ Saying Goodbye
Episode: Season 9 - King of the Damned Pt. 4Β Β
Suddenly, there was the loud sound of something shattering outside and we both broke apart. I wasted no time in bolting out the door, catching a glimpse of Sam crashing in through the front door and Dean driving the First Blade right in to Abbadon's chest. I gasped, covering my mouth as she burned a bright white before crumpling to the floor in a lifeless heap.
But instead of stepping back after realizing she was dead, Dean just kept stabbing her with the Blade, making me flinch as a crimson spray of blood spurted every time he did.
"Dean!" Sam called, as appalled as I was, "Dean, stop! You can stop."
Finally, he did, blood covering every inch of his clothes as he sat back, realization of what just happened dawning on him. His green eyes met mine and I felt so sick at what he'd done, what he was capable of with that Mark. What if Yasmin or Roman had been here?
Not long after, he left to go get cleaned up before rejoining me, Sam, and Crowley in the disarrayed living room.
"You get that he's got to go back, right? To his own time?" Dean asked suddenly, referring to Gavin.
"What?" I asked in disbelief.
"If the lad goes back, his destiny is to board a ship bound for America. That ship went down in a storm. All hands were lost," Crowley finally reveled, making me gape at him in horror, "He had one chance in this world to change his life. You want that to all end in tragedy?"
Dean shrugged, making a face, "Well, I don't know what to tell you. Them's the rules. He goes back,"
I shook my head vehemently, hands on my hips in defiance if ever briefly, "No,"
Dean shared a look with Sam before sighing, "Parker-"
"I said no, okay? You can't do that - he's my brother!" I bit back, my demon eyes threatening to come out.
"The lore all says the same thing - you change any one thing in the past, the ripple effect impacts everything that follows..." Sam told me softly.
"Please," Crowley scoffed from his perch in the armchair, head swiveling between the brothers, "No one bends the rules like you two bend the rules. He's one misfit kid. He impacts no one,"
"Exactly!" I agreed with Crowley, "You two make exceptions whenever you want - so make one now,"
"You don't bend that rule, okay? You don't," Sam tried to intervene, shaking his head, "We'll take him back to the Bunker, figure out the spell. That's the way it's got to be,"
"It's for the best, Parker. Trust me on that one," Dean chided, reaching a hand out towards me but I slapped it away in anger.
"Are you kidding me?! It's-it's for the best?! Really?! Dean, you had a brother, okay? You had a brother and I-I had no one. I was alone!" I screamed at him, tears trickling from my brown eyes, "But I have a real chance at having a family now and no one is going to take that away from me!"
"Parker, listen-" Sam started to intervene when I whipped back around to face Crowley.
"He can't leave! Please, daddy..." I begged, voice breaking as hot tears clouded my chocolate-brown eyes.
His own eyes opened wide in shock, not expecting that at all. It was the first time I'd ever refereed to him as anything other than Crowley. He swallowed, silent a moment before speaking.
"Can we at least say goodbye?" he asked the two of them and begrudgingly nodded.
I followed Crowley in to the bedroom where Gavin waited on us. But before either of us could say a word, Crowley lifted a hand, making the doors slam shut on Dean and Sam before whisking us all away with a snap of his fingers. We landed in a clearing, open green grass surrounding us with the skyscrapers of the city twinkling brightly in the distance from the noon-day sun.
"The ship went down? Well, that's a good fit with the rest of my life," Gavin complained in exasperation after our dad had revealed the full story.
"Mustn't snivel, Gavin. It might fit the old life. This one could be different," Crowley told him reassuringly.
"I don't know the first thing about the 21st Century!"
" You'll be fine. Just avoid cheap whiskey... Look at me, getting all fatherly," Crowley chortled to himself.
"So this is goodbye then?" Gavin asked, eyes switching from Crowley to me and back again.
My chest tightened in anxiety with Crowley's next painful words before he made a joke, "Yes. Forever... Unless, of course, I catch you smoking, in which case, I'll smack you stupid,"
Gavin let out a chuckle before glancing back up at us and I couldn't help the sob that left my throat as I crashed into him. Instantly, his arms were around me in a fierce hug.
"I know we-we haven't...haven't known each other long but...but I love you, Gavin," I spoke into the rough-spun cloth of his shirt, my voice muffled by the material.
"I love you, too, Parker. Goodbye...dear little sister..." he said softly as we broke away tearfully.
He faced Crowley at that moment, "Goodbye, then. And thank you...father,"
He leaned in for a hug then but Crowley stepped back, waving a hand nervously, "Whoa, whoa. Easy, easy. As you were. Goodbye, Gavin..."
It was with a heavy heart that I watched my only sibling walk away, knowing there was a chance I would never see him again. But for once in my life, I didn't feel like little orphan Annie destined to be alone. And as I let my eyes wander over to the figure of my father, I knew he felt the same.
"Come on, dad," I told him softly, hooking an arm through his, "Let's go home."
