Chapter 3 ~ The Black Goo Men

Episode: Season 7 - Hello, Cruel World Pt. 2

It was a long, silent drive back to Bobby's house but after half an hour, we arrived on the familiar dirt road. I was just about to hop out of the Impala when my eyes landed on the sight before me, one that made my stomach roll with dread. Because what I was looking at was not Bobby's house. Or rather, it used to be but what was left was a burning heap of charred wood and debris. My eyes filled with tears at the sight of the house that had been the source of so many childhood and even adult memories that had meant so much to me - playing hide-and-seek with Sam as kids, pranking Dean as a teenager... But the most important thing had me worried - where was Bobby?!

I bit my lip, feeling panic rise inside of me as we all climbed out of Baby and began to rummage through the debris, calling out his name. We all split up to search, me with Sam and Dean on his own.

"Bobby? Bobby?!" Sam called out into the night air as I trekked along beside him.

"Bobby?! Bobby?!" I shouted out, hoping he would hear at least one of us calling his name, "Bobby!"

We turned a corner then, ready to search more when the sight of a lone figure standing in the path made us stop in our tracks. I bristled at the sight: a Leviathan. It was bad enough these pieces of trash had taken Cas away from us but now they'd taken Bobby, too?!

"Winchesters. Martinez. Congratulations," he said to us, smiling sadistically as he stepped closer, "Apparently you three are competent enough to warrant annihilating. I'd take it as a compliment,"

But just as I was about to lash out at him, I heard the cocking of a gun come from the other side of the junk heap. Before either of us had time to react, Dean pushed down on the trigger and the gun discharged loudly, the bullet lodging in the cheek of the Leviathan. He frowned, slowly digging it out of his skin, black blood oozing from the wound before he faced Dean. He began opening his mouth wide enough to show off his piranha-like teeth then and our eyes went wide at the sight. He stalked over to Dean then and knocking the gun out of his hands, threw him against one of the cars. I gaped over at Dean, worry taking over just as he took down Sam as well.

But only for a moment before I glared back at the Leviathan. All I could feel was anger coursing through my veins that he'd dare hurt my boys! I expected him to lash out at me, to attempt to knock me unconscious as he'd done Sam. But instead, he looked over at me with a mix of shock and horror.

"Your-your eyes...what are you?!" he asked in disbelief.

But before I had the chance to even contemplate what he'd meant, one of the cars suspended overhead fell down with a resounding crash, flattening the Leviathan completely. Ink-black goo oozed out from underneath the vehicle and I crinkled my nose in disgust. It was way too late now to ask questions. But...what had he meant? A groan from Dean was enough to break me from my thoughts, though, and I quickly went over to help him up off the ground but he waved me off, gesturing for me to help Sam instead. I rolled my eyes but did as he bid me.

"Sam. Sammy?" I called to him once I'd knelt down beside him, shaking his shoulder to no avail.

"Hey, come on now. I'm the one with the broken leg. You gotta carry me. Sam? Sam?!" Dean called, panic rising in his voice as he shook his brother.

Dean quickly fished out his phone then and began to dial 911 as my eyes brimmed with tears. I hoped we made it out of this alive. It wasn't long and an ambulance finally showed up. They put both brothers on stretchers before wheeling them into the vehicle. I sat in between them as we rode on the way to the hospital.

"Please wake up, Sammy. Please," I said, smoothing his dark hair back from his forehead.

"Sam? You stay with me, you hear?" Dean said over to his little brother.

I frowned, hearing the fear in Dean's voice that he couldn't disguise any longer. Sam's eyes fluttered open then and he craned his neck to look around groggily before drifting back into unconsciousness, his body convulsing.

"Sam! Sammy!" I choked out, scared to death in that moment.

I felt Dean's hand wrap around my own then and squeeze my fingers reassuringly.

"Copy that. We're just pulling into Sioux Falls," the paramedic spoke into his walkietalkie briefly.

My eyes widened and as I glanced back at Dean, I could see his expression mirrored mine.

"Sioux Falls? Sioux Falls General? No, no, no," Dean began to protest vehemently, "No, you gotta take us somewhere else. Anywhere, please."

When they only ignored him, Dean slammed his head back on the pillow hard and I swallowed down the lump that had formed in my throat. Sioux Falls was where Sheriff Mills had been, where she'd informed us there was a group of Leviathans. I chewed the inside of my cheek worriedly. Oh, this would be interesting...
