Prologue

To everyone around her, Maddison's life seemed perfect. I mean she was beautiful, had excellent grades, a close group of friends, and a family that looked ideal from the outside. But in reality, her life in Mystic Falls was far from perfect. She was a girl that was burdened with grief, betrayal, and pain.

Raised by a single mother, Maddison never got to known her father. She didn't want to. The thought of a man abandoning his family so callously filled her with a deep-seated anger.

At eighteen, just after her own graduation, Maddison made a difficult choice: instead of heading off to college like her brother Ethan did, she stayed in Mystic Falls to help her mother tackle the mountain of debt left by her absentee father. It was a decision born out of necessity, not desire.

To ease the burden, Sheriff Liz Forbes offered Maddison a position at the sheriff's office. It was a lifeline, providing her not only with income but also a much-needed escape from the confines of home. As Maddison immersed herself in the work, she discovered a natural talent for solving cases. The mysteries of Mystic Falls drew her in, offering a sense of purpose she hadn't felt in years.

What began as a temporary job evolved into a passion. Maddison found herself on the path to becoming a detective, unraveling the secrets of a town that seemed to hold as much darkness as her own heart. This unexpected journey would test her in ways she never imagined, challenging her to confront the shadows of her past while uncovering the hidden truths of Mystic Falls.

A year had passed, and Maddison's life had taken some unexpected turns. She had learned that vampires, werewolves, witches, and a bunch of other supernatural beings actually existed. One of her best friends was dating a vampire, Bonnie had discovered she was a witch, and Caroline had turned into a vampire.

Basically,ever since the Salvatore brothers had come to town, everything seemed to be in chaos.

Despite everything, Maddison found herself liking the Salvatores. Stefan was sweet, caring, and protective. Damon, on the other hand, appeared to be the complete opposite, though Maddison suspected he was more complex than he let on.

Amidst all the supernatural chaos, it was a small miracle that Maddison had managed to remain human.

But then tragedy struck, shattering any semblance of happiness. Maddison's mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away just three months later. During this difficult time, an evil hybrid arrived in town, turning everyone's lives upside down and making everyone's life a living hell. What will happen next?
