faye was laid in riven's bed after changing into some pyjamas, after the awkwardness of sky seeing them aggressively make out, the two were talking about where their relationship was gonna go.
"i'm just scared, riv." faye sighed. "i want this to work out but i'm just scared to commit to a relationship again."
"i know, faye." he softly smiled at the girl. "but i'm gonna be here whenever you're ready. i will wait forever if it means i can be with you."
"i am in no way comparing you to blake i hope
you know that. it's just the whole commitment side of it all and letting someone in i suppose." she told him.
"and i completely understand, i'm not going to rush this at all-" he got interrupted.
"well, we did already say we love each other, so it may be a tiny bit late for that, riv." she giggled.
riven let out a laugh. "well, yeah that's true."
the boy picked up his phone to check the time, and he showed it to faye. "it's 3:00 AM faye, we should go to sleep."
faye nodded, getting under the covers and pulling them up to her chin, riven got in next to her and allowed her to lay on his chest.
faye tried to sync her breathing with his, but she was still feeling a little all over the place after what happened with the punching bag. she thought more and more about how powerful she would actually be once she tapped into her magic fully. she reckoned that she'd know how to use them, it's just the part of having to keep herself under control when she would get angry or upset. she felt that her feelings would be a downside to her powers, who knows, one burst of anger could hurt or even kill another person.
the girl wished she wasn't as angry as she was, but faye was an emotional person and nothing would help that.
...
ONE WEEK LATER
faye awoke with a groan when she heard riven's alarm. the girl rolled over so she was facing riven, he was somehow still asleep, no wonder he was always late to just about everything.
she watched the boy sleep for a moment, his hair was slightly messy, his mouth slightly open so you could hear small breaths coming from it.
"riv." she whispered, shaking him slightly. nothing. "rivvv." she said slightly louder, again, nothing.
faye sat up in the bed and grabbed the pillow she had slept on and began hitting riven with it. "wake up!" she shouted, with a laugh.
riven shot up from his bed, he looked so confused and this made faye laugh even more.
"what just happened?" riven groggily asked.
"you're a lazy bastard and wouldn't wake up so i hit you with my pillow." she smiled innocently at him.
"very funny, pretty girl." he quietly laughed.
"get up, we have training." she said as she got out of his bed, walking to his wardrobe and pulling out her own clothes along with her specialist's gear. sky had brought practically everything from faye's dorm to his and riven's, they were both very against her being alone.
riven groaned. "i'd rather stay in bed with you." he sent her a playful grin.
faye grabbed riven's specialist gear and threw it at him.
"bitch." he jokingly muttered.
faye shot him a look.
riven just laughed softly at the girl, getting out of bed and going to the bathroom to change.
faye also began to get changed, she looked in the mirror and saw the bruises were still there and visible, she let out a sigh and slowly closed her eyes.
all the memories from that night came back to her, she wasn't sure how this was going to go away, she saw everything that happened every time she closed her eyes.
she shook her head, trying to shake the memories away and continued to get changed into her gear.
they continued to get ready and they then made their way to train, also turns out today they were having one of those training days where the fairies and specialists would come together and train together to fight fake burned ones.
a specialist would get paired up with a fairy and then a teacher, the teacher would be attacking them while the fairy and or specialist would take them down. faye only watched the one from last year she wasn't allowed to participate because she wasn't enrolled at the school yet.
"i'm ready for this day to drag." faye groaned, looking at riven.
"what are they doing about you then?" he asked, faye looked at him with confusion. "like, you're a fairy and specialist."
"not a fairy yet though." she corrected him.
"still a fairy, faye." he argued.
"no." she told him.
"i'm not winning this one." riven laughed.
faye and riven went over to silva and dowling to see who they were assigned to.
"faye you and riven are gonna be paired up today." ms. dowling told them.
"why?" faye asked. "it's meant to be a fairy and specialist and we're both specialists."
"you're going to try to use your magic today, faye." her father said smiling at faye.
"yeah..." faye was unsure. "probably not a good idea." she added, looking over at a cleaner cleaning up the punching bag she disintegrated last night, yes she destroyed another punching bag.
farah and silva looked where she was looking and their heads snapped back at each other.
"that was you?" farah asked.
faye nodded, her face blank. "it was an accident, promise."
"then you're definitely being paired with riven today, that's very impressive faye." ms. dowling told the girl.
"but-"
"no buts, faye." silva interrupted. "you're with riven today end of."
she wasn't bothered about being with riven, it was the fact she was now going to be classed as a fairy but a fairy with no proper magic, it only came to her at certain moments.
"whatever." faye rolled her eyes.
her father sent her a warning look, basically telling her to lose the attitude.
"so sorry dad." she sarcastically smiled.
saul shook his head. "i'll see you later, faye."
faye and riven began walking away, until ms. dowling shouted faye's name. faye looked back and ms. dowling sent her a reassuring nod, telling her it would all be okay. the girl gave the older woman a soft smile.
"we've got this, faye." riven told her slinging his arm across her shoulders.
the two walked to an open training pad and waited for a teacher to join them. eventually, they began the training.
the teacher was probably in his mid forty's, but all the teachers training with the students used to be soldiers so they were still good.
riven and the man started first while faye was on the sidelines in case riven needed help. the teacher was getting the upper hand on riven, so faye tried to use her magic, she tried to knock him over with the wind but nothing was happening, she focused and tried to clear her mind, she tried again and nothing.
faye was beginning to get stressed and annoyed, she thought farah and her dad were idiots for making her train as a fairy and not a specialist.
the girl was getting too frustrated and walked away from riven and the teacher.
"fuck this." she muttered to herself. faye saw terra sitting on a bench and made her way over to the earth fairy.
she sat herself down with a sigh, holding her head in her hands.
"are you alright, faye?" terra softly asked, placing her hand on faye's shoulder.
faye looked at the girl and shook her head. "i can't do it terr." she sighed. "i can only use my magic when i'm angry as fuck or when i'm literally terrified of something or someone. my dad and ms. dowling paired me with riven and said i had to try use my magic. i literally told them i was a fairy last week and they expect me to know how to use my magic?" she ranted. "i can't do this shit terr, i'm not a fairy i'm a specialist and a good one."
"it's going to be hard faye, i won't lie to you." terra began. "i believe in you, riven believes in you, your dad and ms. dosing must believe in you too if they put you with riven as a fairy and not a specialist. sky he believes in you, the other girls do as well. we all bloody believe in you faye." she finished with a smile.
"wow, terr." faye laughed softly. "you should be a motivational speaker."
terra shrugged, slightly tilting her head with a smile. "i guess i'm just good at comforting and communicating with people, even though i annoy most people." she sadly laughed.
"people are arseholes, terr." faye told her.
terra nodded with a laugh.
the two continued to talk until a girl named, kat, came over.
"that vine restraint move's not half bad, terr." kat said.
terra chuckled softly. "thanks. it's, uh..." she stumbled slightly and while she was speaking riven came over and sat next to faye. "it's all about the, um, the tensile strength of the cellulose."
kat didn't speak again and left.
"ah, tensile strength, cool." riven nodded like he had a clue what she was talking about.
terra shifted awkwardly, and faye gave riven a smile.
"she right, you know?" riven told her. "you're a force out there."
"thanks." terra smiled with slight confusion. "you too."
riven scoffed. "fuck off."
faye tutted and gently smacked riven's arm.
"i was shit." he sighed. "after two attempts with me, this fairy quit combat and switched to support so..."
"well it's... it's been a weird week." terra told him.
"i just want to go home." faye sighed. "to my actual home, not here."
riven placed his hand on faye's thigh, squeezing it slightly.
"i'm sorry. i know that you and beatrix were... close, so this must be really hard." terra tried to comfort the boy.
faye rolled her eyes at the mention of beatrix, she couldn't get rid of this grudge she had against the girl. faye hated people messing with her friends and pissed her off more than anything else.
riven nodded slightly.
"sweet moves, riv!" dane came over to the three. "i've never seen somebody die so many different ways so quickly." he taunted, letting out a wheezy laugh. "you should go for alfea's got talent."
"shut the fuck up, dane." faye said, sending the boy a threatening look.
"oh yeah? what are you gonna do about it faye?" he asked. "use your magic?" he teased. "oh wait, you-"
before the boy could finish faye shot up from the bench and shoved dane to the floor with full force, slightly winding him.
"what was that?" faye seethed. "sorry i can't hear you from down there, mate." she scoffed, making her way back to the bench.
people around them were staring at the girl and laughing at dane.
"bitch." dane muttered, standing up and wiping the grass off him and walking away.
riven heard this, he looked at faye like he was going to ask if he could beat the shit out of dane. faye shook her head.
"leave it." she told him sternly.
riven sighed, but he listened.
"what was that?" terra asked with confusion.
riven let out a deep sigh. "that was a shitty burn from the first-year monster i created, or beatrix created." he told her.
"he's a freak." faye added. "god, riv i'd really like to know how you made him like that, the first time i saw him he looked like he was gonna cry."
riven laughed slightly. "he's still got, like, a hard-on for her, a weird, gay hard-on."
riven paused for a moment, he was thinking. "is he even gay?" he asked the two girls.
faye shrugged. "don't know, don't care."
terra stayed silent like she was also thinking as well.
"i don't even know anymore." he added. "well, see you in a bit." the boy cleared his throat and walked away.
the girls looked at each other in confusion.
"your boyfriend is strange, faye." terra chuckled.
"he's not my boyfriend, terr." faye corrected the girl.
"not yet." she cheekily smiled, this made faye nudge the girl softly.
