WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA
6:02 pm Mar. 5 '21
"CLARA BOW," Rain pulled Clara Bow right up and off her bed eagerly. Minnie was stood in the doorway, purse slung over her shoulder and hugging her hip. "Get your cute little butt up, we're going to dinner," Rain pulled the teddy bear that was secure under Clara Bow's arm away, the decades old toy flopping to the side before she was grabbing Clara's hands. It was barely an effort to get the girl up, she never fought them on it, but it was an effort to get her to her feet.
Even once she was on her feet, Rain wasn't backing down. She just gave Clara a smile one straight from the Joker before dropping her hands.
"I'm not hungry," Clara Bow tried protesting, already slipping her shoes on as Minnie dropped them down at her feet.
"Too bad," Rain turned her towards the door, pushing her towards Minnie gently before grabbing Clara Bow's sweater on the end of the bed. "Food's essential, therefore, we're getting food."
"Did Brynn call you guys?" Clara Bow started to turn back towards Rain before she was getting spun around once again. "Because seriously, you guys don't need to believe her. You don't even know her. And besides, I already ate today."
"Chocolate doesn't count," Minnie offered.
Clara Bow groaned helplessly as the two girls refused to listen, ushering her out of the hotel room and towards their destination.
The hotel room clicked shut as the two girls dragged Clara Bow away, helping her put on her zip up hoodie she had always worn; the holes near the zipper's threatening to rip open and expose her to the chilly spring air. Rain's babbling had continued as the elevator door's dinged in front of them, Minnie locking arms with Clara Bow to keep her on track while they explained their night.
Clara Bow just listened as Rain went on about Sean annoying her on set all day for their scenes. She hadn't picked up on much of it, she was just watching her hands fly around as she explained the horrors of her day.
"Has she been doing this the whole time?" Clara Bow whispered to Minnie as the elevator opened up again, revealing the quaint lobby of the Inn they were staying at.
All Minnie gave her in response was a nod and a small smile that had shown she was just as tired hearing about it as Clara was. Only she'd been hearing about it for hours.
"All day," Minnie whispered back.
"Jesus Christ, took you guys long enough."
Clara looked back into the lobby when they left the elevator, the rest of the cast waiting for them while Sean was throwing his hands up impatiently.
"Reservation's in 10 minutes."
"Talk to sleepy head over there," Rain pointed over her shoulder towards Clara as Clara gave the rest of them a short smile, slightly embarrassed that they had been waiting on her the whole time. Not that she even knew about these plans in the first place. "Let's go!" She waved everyone on as Sean and David followed, pushing each other through the doors before Rain was yelling at them.
"Believe me, bringing them was not the original plan," Chris had uttered while he waited for the two girls by the door.
"Least they can keep themselves entertained," Clara joked softly, earning a scoff from Chris while he held the door open for them.
Clara finally un-looped her arm from Minnie's once they had reached the sidewalk. Her hand's shoved in her pockets had hid the picking at her dried skin threatening to break open. It had been a long few hours of pacing and picking as she tried to calm herself down.
She just needed something to distract herself with but so far, nothing was working.
Not even the 5th rewatch of Mamma Mia had helped. All she could think about was what she was supposed to text back to Gracie. And all she had come up with was a big plate full of nothing.
Ever since they had moved filming to North Carolina, everything had seemed more calm. There were less people, they were on a closed beach 80% of the time, and there hadn't been any major breakdowns.
Yet.
Of course...Clara Bow may be the first one to break that.
She always seemed to be.
"Where are we going?" Clara dared to ask, hands still shoved in her pockets as she tried to keep up with the group.
"Dinner," Chris answered.
"Yeah, I got that, genius. I mean where."
"Olive Garden," Minnie answered that time. Seeing the girl light up, skipping a few steps as she kept up.
"Really?" Her suspicions were confirmed when she saw the three ahead of them walking into the Olive Garden on the corner.
They caught up eventually, the racket the other three were causing had died down. The restaurant relatively empty for the time of night. It didn't even take very long for them to get a table for their group, one tucked away in the corner behind probably the only other big family in the restaurant.
Clara's not Ben sure how long they were there, but it was long enough for them to all order drinks, most of them ordering alcohol while Clara and Minnie were stuck with their regular orders.
"So," Rain started suddenly. Clara looked over at her slowly, half expecting her question but also totally unready for it. "Who's this girl?"
"What girl?" Clara questioned. That wasn't the question she was expecting.
"The ones who's made you unable to eat all day, that girl."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Clara shook her head softly.
"Oh my god," Rain complained, throwing a breadstick at her plate. It bounced, threatening to bounce off before Clara caught it and a few snickers fell around the table. "Gracie!"
The table fell silent, expecting an answer from Clara as the girl looked between them all slowly before grabbing her napkin. Her eyes fell towards her hands as she wiped off the butter from the breadstick, trying and failing miserably to hide the nervousness at the mention of the girls name.
"Of course Brynn told you guys," she muttered to herself before dropping her hands to her lap, napkin tangled between her fingers as she looked around at them all. "It's nothing."
"You sure?" Sean tried joking before Clara was shutting it down.
"Yes."
Sean held his hands up in defense quickly, sitting back in his seat before going back and annoying David.
"To be fair," Chris started. "All Brynn said was that you hadn't eaten today. She only came up because they don't know how to mind their own business," he explained to her quietly as he sat across from her.
Clara Bow only let out a sharp breath, sitting back in her seat as everyone finally turned to their own conversations. She wasn't sure what they were all trying to get at, asking questions about Gracie, but it was probably the same reason that Luke had been all over her. So, she hadn't had a date in like...ever, but that's besides the point.
"All she had texted me was that she wanted to apologize for spilling that wine on me," Clara muttered finally. "And that she wanted to ask me a question."
They waited for her to continue, but she didn't.
"Did you answer?" Rain tried, seeing Clara nod but obviously not willing to disclose the topic of conversations between them. "So, what'd she wanna ask?" Rain asked.
"I don't know," Clara shrugged innocently.
"You don't know?"
"I didn't answer," she revealed. Sean and Rain groaned, Rain dropped her head down to the table. Clara looked over at them, her brows pinched in confusion before looking around at everyone else. "I've been trying to answer her all night but I don't know what to say! Because what if the question she wants to ask is bad?"
"Then you answer it and move on!" Sean had startled the table next to them before Minnie apologized to them quickly.
"Give me your phone," Rain reached over the table towards Clara as Clara backed off slightly.
"What?"
"Give me your phone," she waved her hadn't urgently as Clara shook her head slowly.
"Uh, no."
"Clara Bow Jones, give me your phone."
"No, cause you're just gonna text her and probably make me look stupid."
"No, I won't," she promised.
"No."
"Fine. Fine," she backed off, eyeing her warily. "Just tryna help a girl out. Might've actually gotten you a date for once," she sassed, her tone teasing.
Clara Bow looked around the table to see everyone snickering slightly. They all had agreed with Rain. She shook her head slightly, reaching for the breadstick that was previously thrown at her before biting into it.
They had wanted her to get a date. Go on a date at the very least.
She was royally fucked.
