SERENA CAMERON SAT BACK ON HER layout chair with her calves crossed over one another. her black chanel sunglasses sat on the tip of her nose as she stared down at the vogue magazine in her lap. she held a large half empty piรฑa colada in one hand and flipped through her magazine with the other.
she could feel the sun shining down on her exposed skin in her yellow floral bikini, the top like a halter top with a small bow and the bottoms as normal. the summer sun was extremely strong this time of year meaning serena was at the island club quite often to tan. though she was never alone, her three goons, also known as rafe, topper, and kelce, were always following her around.
not only did they always go everywhere she went but they also managed to annoy her everywhere she went. speaking of being annoyed, serena let out a huff when another bean bag came barreling at her and nearly hitting her drink out of her hand.
"top, for the love of god!" she spat and removed her sun glasses to see the boys clearly.
topper, kelce, and rafe all looked at her looks of fear. the three had forced her to let them accompany her to the club today so that they could play hacky sack while she tanned. serena only agreed when their begging never stopped but she did so on one condition; she better not get hit by one single bean bag. of course that rule had been broken countless amount of times already.
"i'm sorry! i won't do it again, i promise!" topper quickly apologized, slightly in fear of his girlfriends temper.
the group always joked that serena got her temper from her older brother which wasn't really a joke and more of a fact. though a lot of the times serena could be even scarier than rafe. but nothing was scarier than when the two paired up in anger. being in the presence of rafe and serena when they were both angry was like walking into a lions den.
"you've said that three times, you ass!" she scolded, glaring at topper before chucking the bean bag back at him, barley missing his head which caused the other two boys laughed.
"i don't know what you two monkeys are laughing at. you guys taught this imbecile how to play hacky sack meaning his incompetence is all on you two." serena barked at her brother and kelce while pointing an accusing finger at them.
"hey, his lack of hand eye coordination is not our faults." rafe quickly defended him and kelce while putting his hands up in surrender.
"yeah he was just born like this. i think ms. thorton had one too many while pregnant." kelce teased while mimicking a drink going into his mouth repeatedly.
"okay, what the hell is this? shit on topper day?" topper asked sarcastically with a red face due to the others teasing.
"everyday is shit on topper day." serena informed matter of factly, looking back down at her magazine.
"oh really?" topper asked with his eyebrows raised as he slowly approached the teen girl.
"indeed." she nodded without even looking up from the runway column in her magazine.
"you think you're funny, don't you?" topper asked while continuing to approached the girl who didn't even notice his advances towards her.
"hilarious, actually." she corrected her boyfriend and continued to flip through her magazine, unaffected.
though her browsing soon came to a halt when she suddenly saw topper lunge at her. his arms quickly wrapped around her waist and hoisted her up onto his shoulder causing her magazine to go clattering to the ground. she let out a small shriek of surprise as she was suddenly hanging upside down,
"topper, what the hell are you doing?" she yelled as he began walking with a jump in his step to rattle her.
"putting you where you belong!" the boy slowly started to approach the bar area, which serena could barley see but she knew exactly where he was taking her.
"if you put me in that trashcan i will hit you with my car, i swear to god!" serena threatened as the boy got closer and closer to the trashcan.
at this point, the loud ruckus caused many people to look over at the teenagers. many of them gave the group disapproving looks and shook their heads at their antics. the other island club members seemed to despise the group considering the amount of times the group has created loud disturbances.
though serena normally hated when people stared she didn't mind much today. the club wasn't necessarily full considering hurricane agatha was supposed to be coming in later tonight and many people were at home prepping.
"jokes on you, i find vehicular manslaughter hot!" topper countered causing the boys to laugh loudly.
"you deranged fucker!" serena punched at toppers back, praying that he would put her back on the ground.
"rafe, tell him to put me down!" she ordered her brother but rafe just watched in amusement before taking a sip of his scotch.
"sorry sis, what did you say? the wind is really strong i can't hear you!" rafe sarcastically replied and gestured at the air around them.
"oh, you are so on my list." serena angrily stated, alluding to the fact that there was absolutely zero wind in the air.
though her anger was cut off by fear when the sight of a steel trashcan came into view. the girl began to kick and squirm rapidly as topper hovered her head over the rancid smelling trashcan.
"top, put me down! i just got my hair done!" she complained while trying to gather her long blonde hair in her hands to avoid it getting tangled in the trashcan.
"tell me i'm the best damn hacky sack player you've ever seen!" topper offered up a bargain but serena shook her head rapidly.
"i'm desperate, not a liar!" she affirmed causing the boys to cackle but it made topper put her face closer to the trash can.
"topper please!" she pleaded in fear as she was now in extremely close proximity to the trash can.
"say it!" he ordered persistently.
"no!" she screamed her refusal.
"say it!" topper began to lower her even closer to the trash can. so close that her forehead as at the rim of the trash can.
"oh my god! you're the best hacky sack player i've ever seen! you put rafe to shame! jan weber? he's nothing compared to you!" serena blurted to appease topper and to get her as far away from the trashcan she she could get.
topper smiled triumphantly and slowly moved away from the trashcan with her still over his shoulder, "see, was that so hard?"
"put. me. down." serena gritted her teeth at the fact she was still hanging upside down.
topper chuckled at her anger before bending down far enough that her feet could touch the ground again. once her feet were placed on the ground, serena felt relief spread through her entire body. topper came back up to eye level and she glared at him causing his to laugh. she flicked him roughly on the nose causing him to wince.
she planned on stomping away from him and going back to her previous activity but that's not happened. as she spinner around swiftly she felt metal press into her bare stomach and she was soon covered in freezing cold liquid. the sound of people gasping and glass slamming onto the ground and shattering filled the air.
"oh my god!" serena gasped and pushed the blonde strands of hair out of her face to figure out what happened.
"oh shit!" a man cursed in surprise as he looked down at the broken glass all over the ground.
serena looked down at her body to see her bottom half covered in a multitude of different colors. the smell of liquor flushed her nostrils and she soon came to the conclusion that she was covered in alcohol.
she looked up and away from her body to see who the dumbass who did this to her was. as she looked up she saw a mess of blonde hair everywhere and muscles peeking out of his black work shirt.
"what the actual fuck, maybank!" serena yelled when she came to the realization that none other than jj maybank had spilled drinks all over her.
"dude, are you dumb?" topper questioned from behind serena.
jj maybank was a sore subject for serena cameron, as was serena for jj. the two had absolutely despised each other since they were fifteen years old. the sight of jj simply enraged serena more than absolutely anything in the world. she couldn't stand his stupid face and his cool guy attitude. she had her reasons to hate the young boy and nothing was going to change that.
serena cameron was the exact same for jj maybank. he couldn't stand the privileged kook queen who was formerly the pogue princess. he hated her prada covered self and her pretentious attitude that had done a complete three sixty since they were children. she thought that the entire world revolved around her and anyone who ever challenged that wasn't worth her time. jj had his reasons to hate the cameron girl and just like her, nothing was going to change that.
"serena, are you joking?" he quickly spat back whilst ignoring topper, seemingly blaming the cameron girl.
"excuse me?" she questioned his tone in pure disbelief.
"that was completely your fault." jj stated bluntly while gesturing down to the broken glass on the ground.
"you cannot be serious right now. you just slammed into me!" she accused him in which he scoffed.
"no, you slammed into me because you're too self centered to realize that there are other people around you." jj growled back, while waving around the metal tray he had managed to hold onto.
jj's words weirdly cut deep into serena's heart. memories of the things jj used to say to her crept into her mind unwillingly. how he would called her his "sweet girl" and his "angel". serena quickly pushed away those thoughts and glared back at jj, allowing the anger to flow through her blood again.
rafe suddenly stepped forward and pushed jj lightly on the chest before warning him, "hey, don't fucking talk to my little sister like that."
serena felt a warm embrace go through her body at her brothers protectiveness. he was always coming to back her up and save her whenever she needed it. rafe was always protective over his little sister and he wasn't going to stop now. no one talked to his little sister like that.
"your little sister just made me spill six drinks because she couldn't look the fuck out." jj challenged back, not backing down to rafe whatsoever which caused rafe's jaw to clench. he didn't like when people weren't afraid of him especially when they were younger than him.
"well maybe if you watched where the hell you were going instead of rattling the peanut in your brain then none of this would have happened." serena spoke up again before rafe could say anything causing jj to look back at her with disgust.
"well maybe if you weren't flying around like a mad woman then you wouldn't have bumped into me." he hinted to when topper had previously been carrying serena which indirectly admitted that he had previously been staring at the couple.
the three boys just stared at the two angry teenagers, along with many club members. it was weird how the two were in their own world while yelling at each other, it was like no one else was around them. they were so focused on angering one another that they didn't even hear the boys trying to diffuse the situation.
"i simply turned around, maybank. ever heard of personal space?" she questioned sarcastically.
"yes, in fact there is not enough personal space in the world to get me far enough away from you." jj insulted causing serena to scoff.
"oh thank god! i would feel oh so miserable without you, it would almost be as bad as when you're around." she threw back at him and he shook his head at her pettiness.
serena's insults hurt him just as much as his did for her but jj was all too familiar with burying his feelings. to avoid another insult being thrown at him he tried to be civil.
"you're going to have to pay for those." he said calmly while pointing to the spilled drinks all over her.
serena let out another scoff in disbelief of his words, "oh okay and you're going to have to pay for the 500 dollar bikini that you just ruined."
the subtle money drop angered jj more than anything. he thought back to when they were fifteen and how she would avoid talking about money whatsoever, almost like she was ashamed of her fortunes. she didn't like to flaunt around her money to wear expensive things. times surely have changed.
jj let out a tense breath through his nostrils before saying, "i am so sorry, queen serena. shall i bow down to you now or later?"
"you are such a-" serena began to insult him but was quickly interrupted by another voice chiming in.
"is there a problem here, ms. cameron?" serena looked up to the see the club owner standing beside the pair.
the man seemed to be investigating the scene in front of him. he looked in between the two red faced teenagers and then down to the broken glass at their feet. he gave a warning look to jj, seemingly hinting to a punishment based on serena's response. this caused jj to gulp deeply and his face to go pale at the thought of possibly losing his job because of some girl who couldn't watch where she was walking.
"yes sir, he-" topper began to complain but serena quickly cut in before she could stop herself.
"no. there's no problem." she surprisingly covered causing jj to look at her with confusion as well as her friends.
she wasnt sure why she she blurted the lieย out. all she knew was the look on jj's face and the lump in his throat that he swallowed was activating. she hated the expression he wore more than she hated his cocky cool guy expression. she wanted it off of his face and she wanted it off now.
apart of her remembered that exact look on jj's face from when they were younger. she was suddenly back in jj's house just hanging out before his dad came crashing in and screaming. she couldn't even count the amount of times she had witnessed luke scream at jj simply because of the alcohol in his system.
she remembered how much jj hated when she'd witness the abuse that his father would dish out, he was always so embarrassed. but she was never judgmental about the things she had seen instead she related. the things luke would say to jj were almost an exact resemblance of what ward had said to her. she knew that the way she felt when her dad yelled at her was what jj was feeling times a million. she had the same look of fear on her face that he had worn and she hated it. she hated that the look young jj would give to his father was the same look jj was giving to his boss.
"you sure?" the club owner asked, looking skeptically between serena and jj.
serena looked over at jj to see a pleasing look on his face so she swallowed deeply and presented her best fake smile, "positive."
the man gave jj another look that made him uneasy. jj knew all too well that the look his boss was giving him was saying "strike two" and it made his heart skip a beat. the small exchange angered serena even more and she quickly spoke up once again.
"but you're kind of interrupting our conversation so..." she spat causing the club owner to look at her with a small amount of fear behind his exterior.
"of course, ms. cameron." the man nodded once and walked away quickly.
serena watched the man leave with a deadly glare, silently imagining him bursting into flames because of his tone. though as she watched him leave out of the corner of her eye she would see rafe, kelce, and topper staring at her in disgust. she made eye contact with her brother and he gave her a look that showed his distaste of her kindness towards the pogue. she gave him a challenging look back that basically told him to mind his own business. though she knew that to cover for her slip up she had to go back to her normal kook behavior.
she looked back to jj to see him looking at her in confusion and she ordered, "pick this shit up."
though jj didn't move and instead continued to stare at the cameron girl in pure confusion. he was completely baffled at serena's weird act of kindness. the girl hadn't even once been kind to him since they stopped talking at the age of fifteen. not only had she never been nice to him but she had also never been nice to anybody since then. so seeing serena be nice to him of all people was unbelievable.
serena looked at jj as if he were dumb and angrily spat, "i can't surf with shards of glass in my feet."
jj took her anger as an order and quickly walked away to get a broom to clean the area. serena watched him walk away, practically glaring holes in the back of his head. though once he was completely out of sigh she let out a shaky breath. for some reason she always tended to hold her breath whenever jj was around, maybe it was his unpredictability. it was like she never knew how the conversation would go and but every time she hated the way it ended or more so the fact that it ended at all.
she rolled her eyes at the redness that had risen to her cheeks due to the conversation. she then turned around, avoiding the looks from her friends, and took a seat at the bar. she could feel her friends staring at her but specifically topper. she looked up from the table and gave them all a look that made them quickly look away and let go of the situation. kelce and rafe shared a look when they saw topper begin stomping towards his girlfriend and quickly fled from the two.
"what the hell was that about?" topper slammed his drink onto the table next to serena causing her to jump lightly.
she looked over at him like he was insane and groaned, "what are you going on about now?"
"that whole interaction, you covering for him. are you into him or some shit?" he accused with pure jealousy running through his veins.
serena let out a dry laugh at his antics while shaking her head in disbelief, "fuck off, topper."
"don't talk to me like that." he ordered forcefully while grabbing her wrist tightly, "are you into him or not?"
serena pulled her wrist from his grip in anger, her wrist slamming into her chest from the force, before challenging him, "i don't think you want to have a who's into who talk right now."
toppers face went pale white and his anger dropped immediately. serena raised her eyebrow to challenge the boy, knowing that her words made him drop the previous conversation in fear of being caught.
as much as serena hated to admit it, she knew that topper was in love with someone else. she also knew that someone else was her own twin sister. the admiration the pair had for each other was so undeniable and painfully obvious. they always shared longing glances, delved into deep conversations, and playfully flirted even in front of serena. she absolutely hated it and would never admit that it was true and neither would topper.
though she also never wanted to admit that she didn't hate it because she loved topper and didn't want him to be with anyone else but more so because she just didn't want that someone else to be her twin sister. sarah had stolen everything from serena since they were kids and serena wasn't going to let her take topper too.
"serena, i already told you nothing is going on." topper stammered with a lowered voice, afraid that someone would hear the "picture perfect couple" arguing.
serena stared at topper blankly whilst observing his demeanor. she could tell by his hushed tone, sweaty palms, and wide eyes that his words weren't truthful. though she decided to bite her tongue and nod.
"and i believe you. so believe me when i say that i hate that kid and i will never have any other feelings for him besides disgust." serena assured with malice laced through her tone at the thought of jj maybank.
"well what if he's into you?" topper asked, seeming to refuse to drop the subject.
serena let out a scoff at her boyfriends words and shook her head in disgust, "trust me, he's not."
"how do you know that though? i mean look at him," topper motioned his head over to jj who was walking over to the glass with a broom in his hand, "he's a pogue and you're the kook princess, serena. he'd be insane not to want you."
serena stared over her shoulder at jj as he began to clean up the mess that the two had created. she thought about the possibility of him having feelings for her like he had when they were younger. she had also once had feelings for the boy as well, it was so hard to forget. though as he looked up to connect their eyes she soon remembered how they ended, why they ended, and she felt nauseous at the thought of their spark ever reigniting.
she quickly looked away from the boy and back to her boyfriend, "he'd also be insane if he ever thought he'd have a chance."
serena flicked toppers nose and leaned forward to place a quick peck on his pink lips. her sweet gesture caused the frown to disappear from his face and was replaced by a small smile.
"now buy me another piรฑa colada." serena ordered sweetly while folding her arms over one another on the table.
"what do you say?" topper negotiated, wanting the girl to ask politely.
"now." she ordered with a straight face and topper sighed.
"i was shooting for a please but i'll get you one anyways because you're pretty." he teased, playfully messing up her hair before walking to the other end of the bar to speak to the bartender.
she then turned her attention away from her boyfriend and to the huge flatscreen attached to the bar. she tried her best to listen carefully to the news channel that was on. she suddenly noticed a red flashing bar at the bottom of the tv and she leaned in closer to get in earshot.
"hurricane agatha continues its steady march towards kildare island on the outer banks of north carolina." the weather lady began pointing at a large map and showing the direction of the hurricane, which was moving fast towards obx.
serena felt her throat become dry and her heart beat rising as she whispered to herself in worry, "oh my god."
serena had an intense fear of hurricanes since she was a child and living on the obx did not help one bit. they had multiple hurricanes a year and it never got any easier for serena, she never felt her anxiety relax when it came to hurricanes.
she just barley remembered her first hurricane when she was five years old. serena and sarah had been outside trying to catch butterflies when the sky suddenly turned black and their father came running outside. she remembered how he snatched sarah up and instructed serena to follow behind. she remembered the loud thunder and how it practically shook their entire house, picture frames slamming to the ground.
she remembered sobbing hysterically and her dad yelling at her to calm down, that it was no reason to be crying. ward had lived through many hurricanes and considering his wealth, they always ended up fine. in about a day or two it would be as if the hurricane never happened, so serena's crying angered him.
though serena couldn't help but let out many tears, even when sarah brought her favorite lady bug teddy to her. sarah told her twin that it would be okay, that they could have a tea party if she stopped crying. it didn't help much, causing sarah to feel immense sadness at her sisters terror. the pair hugged one another, serena crying to sarah's shoulder until it stopped.
though it wasn't like that now. serena did her best to hide her fears, claiming they were a weakness and stupid. the only person who could ever help her calm down was sarah or jj. he had helped the girl through many hurricanes in the past but considering none of the three spoke anymore, serena had to power through on her own.
"you love birds done fighting yet?" serena quickly looked up to see rafe and kelce had came back.
topper appeared beside serena, handing her drink to her, "we weren't fighting we-"
"yeah." serena answered truthfully, picking up the drink and chugging it.
"good because i don't think ill make it through another flopper gate." kelce said honestly, taking a seat at the bar as well.
"you promised to never bring that up!" topper gasped loudly causing the group to laugh.
the memory of the first time serena called topper flopper popped into her head. she remembered how they were playing tennis and topper was losing astronomically. she called him flopper and suddenly he was throwing a huge fit, stomping off the court while yelling at serena to never call him flopper again. she chuckled to herself at the memory and the week long silent treatment she got for it.
"oh calm down, flopper." serena sighed playfully and the group, besides topper, laughed loudly.
the three boys began to converse about something else but serena zoned out. she couldn't pull her eyes away from the television once again. she hoped that by downing her piรฑa colada her anxiety would dissipate but it wasn't working very well.
her mind became fuzzy as she watched the weather lady begin warning people to get inside. her ears began to ring when she heard the words "category three" leave the woman's mouth. she also had felt the sun rays leave her skin and she looked up to see the sky turning an ominous shade of gray.
"rafe, i think it's time we head home." she suddenly hopped up from her chair, dropping her class onto the bar.
rafe nodded, knowing exactly what was going on with his sister. he wasn't exactly able to calm her down like sarah and jj had been able to do but he was able to distract her every once in a while. he knew his younger sister like the back of his hand and he knew that she needed to leave before she bursted into tears.
"is the serena cameron afraid of a little old hurricane?" she barley heard kelce say due to the fuzzy sound her ears were making.
she turned away from the boy, covering her face to hide the fear that filled her eyes. she rolled her bottom lip into her mouth before biting down on it. she reminded herself of the image she had created for herself and how being afraid of a hurricane wouldn't fit the kook queen aesthetic. she swallowed her anxiety, turning back to kelce with a soft smirk.
"im not afraid of the hurricane, i'm just tired of your stench." she spat before walking a few feet and grabbing her things from her layout chair.
"ouch cameron, that hurts." kelce held a hand to his heart in mock hurt and serena rolled her eyes.
"good, peace losers." she threw up her middle finger and began walking away, rafe following close behind her.
even though she tried to hide it, she still felt her palms sweating due to the amount of anxiety coursing through her veins. and apparent jj had noticed this as well. the second he felt the sky turn gray he couldn't help but stare at serena. he hadn't been around her during a hurricane in years. he wanted to know if the small part of serena cameron that he knew was still there or if she was completely gone.
when he saw how fidgety she was and the thin layer of sweat in her forehead, he almost smiled. but then he couldn't help but feel worried about the girl. he could recall the huge panic attacks she had when they were together during hurricanes and he had a feeling that she was now going through those alone.
as serena was leaving she noticed jj watching her with a glint of curiosity in his eyes. she knew exactly what he was looking for and it angered her more than anything. she didn't like that he still doubted her new kook lifestyle. she wasn't pogue serena anymore and she never would be again.
"the hell are you looking at?" she seethed, putting her hand on her hip.
jj simply looked at the girl with a straight face. he felt any hope he had for the old serena to come back quickly deflate. he knew better than to have any hope when it came to her yet he still found himself thinking she would come back to him some day.
"go polish your crocs, pogue." she stomped away when he proceeded to stare without saying a word.
rafe watched his sister walk away quickly and towards the exit. once she was far enough out of his sight, rafe snatched jj up by his collar. jj let out a huff and tried to pull away but it was no use.
"don't you ever talk to my sister that way again, got it?" rafe warned through gritted teeth, referring to jj's previous words, "if you do i'll beat you're face in."
rafe forcefully let go of jj's collar causing him to stumble backwards. he quickly caught himself before he fell and stayed silent as rafe gave him one last glare before walking away. he also noticed topper and kelce smirking to themselves at the bar, glaring at the pogue as if he deserved what he had just gotten.
jj let out a soft sigh and continued to sweet up the glass from the country club floor. he would never admit it, but every single part of him wished he was fifteen again. the fifteen year old jj still had every misfortune he had today but that jj had something special, someone special.
เผ ห ๏ฝกโ ๐ผ โ๏ฝก ห เผ
RAFE AND SERENA RAN AS FAST as they could into the house. rafe held his jacket up above his sisters head to protect her from the strong downpour. it had started to rain heavily on their way home and serena's nerves felt the worst they had ever felt. though she pushed back her tears, not wanting to cry in front of her brother even though he wouldn't mind.
the pair pushed through the front door, quickly shutting it against the wind. they let out a few breaths and pulled off their wet shoes and jackets. serena gathered her things to bring up to her room and change but rafe stopped her before she could get up the stairs.
"you alright?" he questioned, knowing that she wasn't.
serena blew out a deep breathe before forcing a smile and whispering, "fine."
rafe gave her a sympathetic smile and nodded softly. he knew she was lying but he also knew that if she needed him she would tell him. she always tried to hide her emotions from the entire world, excluding rafe in times when she really needed someone.
rafe and serena had always been like that. they had always been so close because they truly had no one else. serena had been second to sarah her entire life in everything that she did. whether that was sports, or friendships, or even being loved by their father. rafe and serena were alike in that sense, he was practically shit on the bottom of their fathers shoe and serena was the chopped liver under the other one.
they also got along so well because they both hated sarah. that was a sad realization to have, that you didn't like your own twin sister. what kind of monster do you have to be to despise your twin? rafe and serena were able to bond over being the lesser of the cameron siblings but if you asked them, they were the better half.
serena quickly ran up the white stairs case to get to the second floor where her bedroom was. she noticed sarah's bedroom door wide open and slowed her footsteps. she didn't have the energy to talk to sarah at the moment. talking to sarah during hurricanes only made her anxiety worse considering she began to think about how they used to be so close.
serena quickly ran as quietly as possible past sarah's door, hoping her twin didn't hear or see her. she let out a sigh of relief when sarah's room was silent and there was no sign of her. serena entered her bedroom and threw her stuff to the ground before going over to her closet. she grabbed a comfy outfit and changed out of her bathing suit and cover up.
"hey, how was the club?" a voice from behind her asked and she gasped loudly, turning around in fright.
when her eyes set on her twin sister, her heart rate slowed down, "god sarah, can't you knock?"
"sorry." she laughed and came to take a seat on serena's bed but she quickly stopped her.
"are those your outside clothes?" she asked.
sarah looked down at her jean shorts and crop top before nodding in confusion, "yeah?"
"then don't sit. i just got my bed set dry cleaned. it's basic hygiene, sarah." serena said with disgust, walking over to her vanity.
sarah stepped away from her sisters bed and looked over to serena who sat down at her vanity and began to take her makeup off, "oh, my bad. anyway, do you want to watch a movie or something?"
"why?" serena asked apprehensively, trying to figure out her sisters ulterior motive.
"y'know, to drown out the storm." sarah shrugged, walking closer to her sister.
serena felt her blood begin to boil as she ripped the makeup wipe away from her face and spat, "what the hell are you talking about?"
"well i know you have storm anxiety and-" sarah began to explain but she was quickly cut off.
serena spun around in anger, her hair flying wildly as she stared at her sister with a tense jaw and the deadliest death stare imaginable, "i don't have storm anxiety, sarah. i was a kid for fucks sake, i grew out of that."
"serena-" sarah tried to speak but was cut off again.
"no. get the hell out of my room." serena ordered, pointing to her door.
"god, i should've known not to try and help you." sarah shook her head at her twins behavior.
s mall part of serena knew that all her sister was trying to do was help but she didn't want her help. serena always felt bad for treating her sister this way but then that reoccurring image popped into her head and suddenly she felt like she wasn't being mean enough.
"i don't need your help, sarah! i've never needed your help nor do i want it! lord knows you've done enough." serena insinuated in which sarah looked confused.
"what's that supposed to mean?" she asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"i think you know exactly what that means. now get the hell out of my room." serena ordered once more, pointing to her door with fire in her eyes.
sarah let out a scoff and turned around, storming out of serena's room. she slammed the door shut, emitting a loud bang which only pissed off serena even more.
serena let out a labored breath and looked back to her vanity mirror. she stared at her reflection and felt her chest start to cave in when she saw how much she looked like sarah. it was like she couldn't escape her no matter what she did.
serena always felt uneasy after every conversation she had with her twin, even if it was short. she immediately began to dissect herself and pick apart everything she hated about herself, everything that might make others hate her too. she thought maybe her father didn't like her as much as he did sarah because serena looked more like her mother. but then again she envied that she didn't look exactly like sarah, maybe people would like her more if she did.
suddenly, a loud crack of thunder hit the island causing serena to flinch. she felt her breathing become a struggle again and everything suddenly felt like too much. she tried to ignore the weight on her shoulders that she had felt since she was fifteen but it was almost impossible.
serena's door slowly creaked open and she looked over, expecting to see sarah reentering to continue their argument. instead she saw her brother and smiled softly to herself at the sight of him. it was clear that he had heard the argument between the girls and was coming to cheer her up. not to mention he had also come up with a plan to distract serena from the hurricane.
"wanna watch twilight and take a shot everytime we cringe?" he asked with a smile causing serena to laugh loudly, throwing her head back.
despite what everyone said about rafe, he was a good person whether other people got to see it or not. he was serena's safe place, he was the only person she could actually talk to about anything. she was eternally grateful for her brother, she would always love and trust him no matter what.
"i've never wanted to do anything more."
