Chapter 3

Okay, so there was apparently some sort of large, mystical-looking creature on your roof. That's nice.

Sighing to yourself as you walked down one of the aisles of the pharmacy, you soon crouched down and grabbed a roll of bandages. Yí was busy looking for the medicine, as far as you knew, so you decided to just head up to the front desk and wait for her there.

"Oh, my," the lady blinked at the three rolls of bandages in your arms as you set them down in front of her, keeping your gaze down since you weren't really one for socializing.

"Did someone get seriously hurt or something?" the woman asked, quirking a brow at you as you shuffled in your place awkwardly.

"Um, I..."

Thankfully, Yí came rushing over just in time, and you internally sighed with relief. Yeah, you'd leave the talking to your sister, thanks.

With Yí now at your side and with the medicine needed to treat the wound of the creature on your guys' roof, you both quickly paid for your acquired essentials and left the pharmacy; running past other people and apologizing to every person you bumped into, until you both rounded a corner that led into an alleyway, and you instantly came to a stop in your tracks at the sound of voices.

"BAM! It came out of nowhere. Then it was gone."

Taking Yí's hand, you pulled her over to the side and hid behind a dumpster, but you both still made sure that there was enough room for the two of you to peek your heads out and see what the adults were talking about.

In the middle of the road, men and woman in suits all surrounded a truck driver. What instantly caught your attention, however, was the large dent in the front of his vehicle — which was currently being examined by a woman with curly red hair, wearing a lap coat, with a pair of glasses across his freckled face.

"Did you see where it went?" the red-head spoke, gently running her finger across the dent and examining it thoroughly.

"Lady, I just told you. It was gone." Looking around, the man then started leaning against his damaged truck, moving some loose strands of his hair behind his ear. "Uh, what was it, anyway?" he asked, curiosity lacing his voice.

For a split moment, you saw the red-headed woman go tense. However, she quickly covered her nervousness up and offered the truck driver a polite smile before saying, "Um, let me take care of the repairs to your truck."

The man seemed surprised by her words and he perked up as she smiled and nodded, turning around and walking away to continue on with her buisness.

Though the conversation was short, you still couldn't help but tense out of fear and bite your bottom lip. Because — because...

You and Yí already knew exactly what she was looking for.

Opening the door as quietly as you could, you stuck your head into your little apartment and looked around for any sight of Nai Nai or your mother. When you saw neither of them, you smiled and nodded towards Yí, signaling her that it was okay to come in.

A sigh of relief escaped your twins' lips, and the two of you walked into the room casually before closing the door behind you. You started making your way over to Yí's room soon after, but came to a stop when you finally noticed a familiar scent in the air.

Nai Nai's pork buns, you thought to yourself, perking up and turning around to face the counter. Unsurprisingly, a plate of your Nai Nai's pork buns sat atop the countertop, and you beamed, walking over to them and pouring the whole plate into your purse.

I hope that...whatever is up there is hungry, because—

"Oh, so you're hungry, are you?"

At the sound of Nai Nai's voice, you jumped, and a few of the buns fell from your purse, but Yí thankfully managed to catch the fallen food before it could hit the floor in her own bag, making the two of you sigh with relief.

"Um, sorry, Nai Nai," you offered the old woman a nervous grin and started to back away from her towards Yí's room. "But me and Yí are kind of in the middle of something, so..."

"Oh, so busy as always, are you?" You flinched at the question, and Nai Nai continued. "Honestly, I keep telling your mother: you two need to slow down! Spend more time here, at home, with your family!"

You and Yí only nodded, glancing back at her door every now and then as she slowly lifted her hand to grab the knob.

"Mrs. Lui called me today," Nai Nai began, "Says you're fixing her computer. And Mrs. Yuan in 4-B says you're going to trim her poodle's toenails!"

Nai Nai chuckled and turned to the two of you from over her shoulder, making you both instantly freeze and causing Yí to stop turning the doorknob for a moment as you (forced) yourselves to listen to what else your Nai Nai had to say.

"I like that you're both ambitious. After all, no one wants two, lazy granddaughters." Nai Nai chuckled again. "But, uh," the old woman shook her head and started placing buns on the plate again, continuing on with her rambling.

"Busy, busy, busy! What do you both need to do all that for?"

Turning to the two of you, Nai Nai saw that Yí had now opened her door and that she had gone into her room, leaving you the only one there to speak to her.

A moment of awkward silence passed. But, then, you chuckled nervously and shrugged, beginning to walk into your sisters room after her as you said, "I guess we just like being busy...?"

The door was shut before Nai Nai could even respond.

Popping your heads up, yours and Yí's eyes focused on the small hideaway the creature you had found ealier was in, before slowly climbing up onto the roof fully and opening your bags; revealing all of the pork buns inside.

"Okay," you took a deep breath to reassure yourself. "Let's go, I guess..."

You and Yí tiptoed over to the small hideaway quietly and started setting the pork buns down outside of it in hopes of earning the creatures trust.

"Hey, boy," Yí began. "Or girl," you added, chuckling a little at the end and pouring the rest of the buns out into a pile with your sister. "Are you hungry?" Yí asked.

Just as soon as your sister had said that, a large hand suddenly shot out behind the blue curtain of the hideaway and pulled all of the pork buns in — also causing you and your sister to cry in surprise and fall to the floor, dropping your bags in the process.

"Ow..." you groaned, pushing yourself back up and rubbing your pained back as the creature munched loudly on their treat from the inside. However, once the munching stopped, you blinked and leaned forward — curiosity getting the better of you — when a loud burp was suddenly heard, and you stiffened.

"Oh, yeah," you fanned the air in front of you and held your nose, turning away as Yí snickered next to you.

"He's definitely a boy."

Yí laughed and pulled the medicine you guys had bought from the store before digging around in your purse and pulling out the bandages. When she had both items, she put the bandages under her arm and stood up on her toes and pulled a towel off of the thin wire hanging above.

"Did we bring any cotton balls?" Yí questioned, sending a glance in your direction.

You smiled and nodded, opening another pocket in your purse and pulling the needed item out.

Yí smiled as well and nodded herself, turning to you with the towel hanging from her arm. "Okay, good."

Knowing that you now had everything you needed to care for the creatures wound, you and Yí slowly walked up to the little hideaway and pushed the curtain aside. Your eyes widened slightly in both curiosity and wonder as you watched him scarf down the rest of the pork buns — even if the sight was a little...unsettling.

"Whoa..." At the sound of your voice, the creature stopped what he was doing and turned to you. You watched as his face scrunched up and his eyes narrowed, contorting his expression into a snarl as he grunted and looked down on you, clearly suspicious.

You inhaled deeply and slowly knelt down, holding your hand up as a way to hopefully show the creature that you meant no harm. Yí did the same as you, only she had to set the medical supplies down in front of her instead. For a moment, you caught the creature's eyes light up with curiosity at the medical items, but his hints of curiosity had all left as soon as they had come.

Then, the sound of something being torn in half was heard, and the creature growled, leaning towards you and Yí menacingly. You drew a breath and backed up away from him in response, only to quickly relax when he started to whimper and turn away from you, holding his arm.

Instantly, your expression contorted to that of worry and you slowly slipped the cotton balls out of your pocket as the creature spared a glance in your direction, his eyes wide and full of fear.

Yí showed the ripped towel to the creature and gestured towards his arm vaguely, almost as if she were telling him that you were both going to help him, and, surprisingly...he believed her.

Hesitantly, you watched as he held his arm out to the two of you, and you smiled, taking a cotton ball out and pouring some medicine on it. "Don't move around, okay?" you whispered, taking his larger arm in your hand and holding it up more as he stared at you.

"This may sting a bit," you said, beginning to gently dab the cotton ball on his wound.

The creature whimpered and tried to pull away, but you somehow managed to keep a firm grip on his arm — until you were done with adding the medicine, at least. But, soon (as predicted), his arm was pulled away from you, and he held it close to himself protectively, breathing heavily as he stared at you with wide eyes.

He was scared, you could tell.

"We want to help you," you began after a moment, and the creature's head seemed to perk up for a split second as you continued.

"But we can't if you don't let us."

The creature seemed to process your words, staring at you with an unreadable look as it looked between you, Yí, and its arm.

But then, once again, he held his arm out once more, and you and your twin smiled.

Yí placed the torn towel over his wound to form an 'X' shape after that, before slowly wrapping the bandages around it. She glanced up every now and then, wanting to make sure that she didn't startle him with her movements, until she was finally done.

And, for the first time — for as long as you had known this creature — he smiled, and his shoulders relaxed as he leaned back against the wall behind him and shut his eyes in content.

You and Yí couldn't help but grin up at him. He was truly phenomenal; something that you had never seen before. In all your life, you had never thought that something like this would ever happen to you of all people. And yet, here you were: face-to-face with a creature most likely undiscovered by man, and that very fact was enough to excite you.

For the first time in a while, you actually felt special.

THUMP!

Snapping out of your thoughts, you blinked a few times and stared down at the creature who had now fallen asleep, causing a short giggle to escape your lips as you laid down on your side to stare at him. You were still amazed at the sight, to be honest.

(Though, you did find it a little funny when his tongue fell out of his mouth.)

"Whoa..." Yí gasped in amazement and ran a hand through her hair. "I don't know what he is, but he..." she chuckled, listening to his loud snores.

"He surely doesn't belong here."

* * * * *

Day had finally passed, and the starry skies of the night had now taken over to form a wonderous beauty above you.

Grunting, you managed to finally climb to the top of the creatures new hideaway and set the umbrella in your grasp down through a fairly large hole in the hideaway's little roof. It was ensure that any helicopter's (or something similar) wouldn't be able to spot him up top while he was sleeping or something.

"Annnd done!" You grinned proudly to yourself and hopped off of the hideaway's roof; placing your hands on your hips as you and Yí took in your work.

"Yí," you began, moving some hair out of your face, "I think we did good."

Yí chuckled and opened her mouth to respond to your words, but she was cut off by a groan — coming from inside the hideaway — followed by a whimper.

You and Yí perked up and shared a look with one another before quickly running over to the hideaway and pushing the curtain aside to check on the creature, who gasped at your sudden presence and scooted away to go hide in the corner, panting heavily.

He was still scared.

"Hey, hey, hey, shhh! Calm down, okay?" You walked up to him and held your hands up, trying to calm him down.

The creature moaned in pain and sniffled, tears building up in his big, blue eyes, and you frowned at the sight.

"No. Please don't cry," your sister said from beside you, clasping her hands together and staring at the creature worriedly.

The creature only whimpered in reply.

Biting your bottom lip, you started to rack your brain for an idea on how to calm the hairy beast down, when your sister suddenly gasped and held her hands up. "Wait."

She ran out of the small hideaway, and a gentle melody soon filled the air not too long after, making you smile as you watched her walk back in, her violin in hand.

"My dad used to play for us," Yí began, a small smile on her lips. "It always made me feel better."

Your twins eyes closed in content as she continued to play, and you couldn't help but sway along with the tune, humming along with it as the creatures quiet panting slowly stopped, and he turned to the two of you, his eyes closed in content as well.

It was like magic.

(Well, technically, it will be magic, but, you know...)

Soon, the creature started humming along with the melody as well, and you smiled.

Though, your once calm expression was soon replaced with that of shock when the creature started to glow a beautiful blue, making your eyes widen as a quiet jingling was heard outside, causing you to turn around and gasp quietly.

The decaying plant atop the little box you and your sister kept your money in was now full of life and fully bloomed, just like it was months ago.

Holy shoot.

This creature knew magic?!

Just as this fact had dawned upon you, Yí stopped playing and looked up at the beast, smiling up at him. "All better, right?" she asked.

The creature sighed contently in reply.

Yí's smile grew and she turned around and began putting her violin up. When she closed her instruments case, however, her eyes widened when she finally noticed the now-fully bloomed plant, and her brows furrowed in confusion.

"Uh..."

"Please don't tell me that you didn't see that," you said, gesturing to the beast as Yí stood up. "Saw what?" she asked.

Your mouth went agape and your eyes widened as your arms fell back down at your sides. "So..." you sighed, facepalming, "you didn't see it..."

Yí rose a brow, her confusion growing. "See what?"

You sighed again and shook your head. "Nothing. It's just—" you stopped speaking and pinched the bridge of your nose. "Nevermind, I could just be seeing things..." you muttered.

Though she found your behavior a little confusing—

(And a little concerning.)

—Yí decided not to question it any further and began to close the curtain to the little hideaway, smiling up at the creature. "Goodnight, sleepy head," she said.

You were just beginning to gather your stuff up, internally questioning whether or not what you saw ealier was even real, when the creature suddenly stepped out of its hideaway, its gaze focused on one thing:

A billboard that showed the famous mountain known as 'Everest' on it.

It all fit together like a puzzle for you right then and there when you listened to the creature let out a delighted moan towards the billboard, and your eyes widened.

"Wait." Yí turned to the creature, her brows furrowed as she pointed up at the billboard. "Do you...know that place?" she questioned.

The creature grunted, moving back into his small hideaway as he did so.

You and Yí followed him into the hideaway, expressions of pure curiosity plastered on your faces. "Is that..." you felt a smile begin to tug on your lips, "Is that your home?"

The creatures grunted again and tilted his head to the side, obviously confused and wondering what you were talking about.

"You know, uh, um, home." Yí lifted her hands up atop her head and held them together, most likely trying to symbolize the roof of a house.

To the creature, however, it looked more like a mountain than anything.

With that very thought in mind, the hairy beast cooed happily and made the same gesture as Yí, which caused the two of you jump up back onto your feet excitedly.

"No way..." Yí trailed off.

Exhaling sharply, you ran out of the small hideaway and pulled your phone out of your purse and quickly got onto Google, beginning to search up something to see if your little theory was right.

'Creature from Mount Everest.'

You started to read the first thing that came up.

"'Considered to be no more than a fairy tale and myth, enthusiasts still hold out hope that these creatures actually do exist...'"

You shuddered and looked up at Yí, whose eyes were just as wide as yours as the two of you stared at the beast you had hidden away.

"There's a yeti on our roof."
