THE BUS RIDE this morning was different. maybe it was the way the air smelt outside. or the way the sun rose perfectly over the beach, as if it was summer again. the girls brain had been stuck in a loop for over four months now. she had felt as though complete auto pilot had taken over.

if someone were to ask her if she remembered anything between july to november, she would say no. because honestly, the most she remembered was what happened july 30th.

kalani never felt this way before. the break up definitely hit her hard, but she had been over it for months now. so why? why was she just feeling the effects now?

to add onto that, being fully honest, the girl can't remember when the last time she was sober for a whole week. at least once, she was smoking, drinking, or hitting a stick in the bathroom stalls before class.

lani didn't believe that the boy ruined her. truly, she felt terrible blaming something like that on walker. walker doesn't deserve that. but was that the truth? did walker really not deserve that? or was she trying to hold onto a love that should've been let go of long ago.

once making it to school, vienna wandered over to the girl. "hey lani"

kalani faked a smile. "vi!" she proceeded to move in for a hug.

vienna had helped lani so much throughout the breakup. to her, it felt amazing for another person to be there. it felt amazing to have someone finally care.

kiera, her sister, had cared enough by giving lani more things to feed the addiction. she had given her little sister things to take her mind off the true pain that raged in her heart. yea, sure, it helped, but lord did it not help the grades. or her reputation.

when everyone found out that "top of the class" kalani reid had a raging weed addiction, they went feral. a video had gotten leaked of the girl hitting a blunt. normally, people would've taken it easily to notice that someone was hurting inside. but kalani was a different story.

"how is everything? you seem off." vi continued, she turned to look at lani who had been on the edge of tears.

lani shook her head before she felt a ball in her throat. the pit that was once in her heart, moved to her stomach, giving her an extremely nauseous feeling. the girl ran into the bathroom.

she had been close to not making it, before her coffee and breakfast came up through her throat. she had threw up straight into the toilet, and it didn't stop coming.

after giving it a good twenty minutes, and being extremely late to class, she made her way to the nurses office to tell the lady about her situation. her mom was called and agreed to pick her up within the next forty-five minutes.

lani layed on the blue bed. it was rock solid and had the flattest pillow to ever exist. the garbage can had been sitting next to her, just incase the incident happened again.

the girl picked up her phone and made her way over to snapchat. she proceeded to go over to her memories. she grabbed the small button on the side of the screen and scrolled down to july.

immediately, she found a photo of walker and her. she pressed on the photo and stared at it for a minute.

july 3rd, 2023

"STOP TICKLING ME walker!!" the girl finally said between giggles. they had been laying on the boys couch that sat in his living room. whiskey, his dog, heard the laughing and wandered into the room. nudging his way into lani's hands.

"whiskey!! that's my girlfriend. not yours buddy." walker moved to look at the dog before grabbing his collar and pulling him away from the girl.

walker turned to her, making eye contact with kalani. he smiled slightly, causing the girl to smile back. he then grabbed a piece of her hair and put it behind her ear. the boy then leaned his face in to kiss the girl.

it was a peck. a small one. but inside, lani had felt fireworks going off. she loved when walker did these sort of things.

"i love you wally." she said to the boy, a smile falling on both their faces yet again.

"you know i hate that nickname, love." the boy responded, continuing to smile.

a knocking was heard at the door. walker stood up and made his way over. lani stayed on the couch, continuing to play with whiskey.

"ryan, whatchu doing here?" the boy said once opening the door.

"you seriously thought i was gonna miss the announcement?" ryan responded, he made his way into the house. "hey lani. great seeing you. how's vienna?"

the girl smiled at him. "vi's great."

"i'm glad." ryan replied.

"what announcement is he talking about walker?" kalani asked, looking at the two boys.

"you seriously haven't told her yet?" ryan's eyes widened.

the girl turned to walker. he had been fidgeting with the strings of his hoodie. "walker what is he talking about."

"lani look. i wanted to tell you.." walker started. "i just didn't know how you would react."

the girl motioned for him to keep talking.

"i applied for a show." he let out. kalani knew how much he loved acting, she expected it even.

"like a play? that's awesome baby." she said, causing ryan to make a fake gagging noise from the nickname.

"no lani. i mean a tv series." walker proceeded to pull out his phone and go onto his email. there was one unopened one waiting for him.

he clicked on the email, handing the phone to lani and ryan for both of them to read. their faces began to rise with a smile.

"YOU GOT THE PART!!" the girl said, running to her boyfriend for a hug.

"i'm proud of you man." ryan joined in, dabbing up his best friend.
