Months pass. Three long, hard months spent in which Selyn is plagued doubts and yearning, head dipped underwater by currents of want and loneliness, tossing her around in merciless waters, her emotions a mixture so strong that they threaten to tear her heart apart.

Nadia and Selyn return to Coruscant for some time, training and meditating in the Jedi temple's garden together. They buy their favourite take-out and wander the city, and Selyn lets Coruscant's vibrant life swallow her whole. They watch holomovies like they always used to while the rain drums on the windows. Selyn pauses the movie at each new scene to give Nadia a rather comical summary of where the characters are and what they are doing. As usual, it spirals out of control after some time and Selyn ends up telling an entirely different story, much to Nadia's delight.

They are sent on a mission to Corellia to help uncover an underground crime organisation. Selyn can only think about how Anakin would be delighted seeing all the amazing spaceships and speeders there.

On Rodia she wishes she could tell him about all the strange wildlife she encounters there.

As Nadia and Selyn wander over Hoth's freezing surface she wonders if he would prefer this icy planet over his hatred for sand.

Despite all the times she pictures talking to him, and despite all the conversations she had with him in her head whenever she misses him too much, she never seems to encounter him. Whenever Anakin and Obi-Wan are situated on Coruscant she is in an entirely different star system. They miss each other by just a day two times.

Once, she dreams about him. Or at least she thinks it was about him. She dreams of a dark landscape, and there's his presence...devastatingly strong, guilt- and fear ridden, and there's anger, insanely powerful and explosive that it makes the darkness shatter into a million pieces by a bright blue light, sending it raining down like broken fragments of a mirror, cutting her skin and making her bleed tears of red. The terror she feels is real and caving like claws on her chest, strong enough to send her upright in bed, clasping the sheets, sweat pooling on her brow.

The day after she spends pacing, worrying for him, wishing to see him or speak to him or make sure that he's well in any way, but he's on a mission to protect a senator, a million lightyears away. She can't reach him.

There are times where she longs for him so much, she thinks she can't take it anymore, that the strain on her little, untrained hard might be too much. And then again the guilt hits her in the chest like a freight train. During hours spend in meditation Selyn manages to divide her thoughts into two groups.

For one, she doesn't regret the kiss with Anakin. Quite the opposite, she longs for more, she spends hours lying awake and thinking of him, eager for them to meet again. She has never felt anything like that before, and the feeling is all-consuming, sending her soaring sky-high or plummeting towards a low of sadness. His touch is imprinted on her skin, his voice engraved in her mind, his face swimming before her in the darkness whenever she closes her eyes.

She feels like a compass, part of her heart always pointing towards him, as if he were her North Star. As if something is pulling her in his direction, something powerful and invisible that can be er be fooled, like the magnetic forces aligning a compasses' needle.

But then there is the guilt she feels for breaking the order's code. All her life she has worked hard to fulfil this ideal of the perfect Jedi, she has studied holocrons and books, and spent hours upon hours meditating about the Jedi's teachings, trying her best to free herself from all attachment.

The Jedi's ways and lessons are not something she can forget about in an instant, something she can cast off like a robe she has outgrown. Even if she is no longer the padawan she used to be, even if she has come to love her family deeply...kissing another padawan is something else entirely.

They would be expelled from the order if anyone ever found out, a life dedicated to training and meditation simply wasted as if it was nothing.

But thoughts about Anakin are not the only thing weighing her down.

Unrest and uncertainty hold the galaxy in its suffocating grip, shaking the sense of security that Selyn has usually felt to its core. She turns nineteen amidst the chaos that she knows to be only the calm before the storm. Sometimes she feels older than she already is, not aged only by time but by the circumstances, too.

The Federation of Independent Systems gains on influence. More and more star systems leave the republic as they feel neglected by the core worlds, and the fear arises that the galaxy might be split in two. There's talking of passing the controverse Military Creation Act which would establish a central republic army to protect it. In the days leading to the vote, Senator Padmรฉ Amidala barely survives an assassination attempt which leads to her protection by Anakin and Obi-Wan. Selyn sees about the news in the HoloNet. She likes the senator, she has seen many of her speeches broadcasted before and the thought that such a brave young woman is threatened to be silenced, upsets her.

Selyn is using her spare time in their quarters on Savareen to meditate, lost in the landscape of her mind, as Nadia rushes in.

"I just received a transmission from Obi-Wan," she says worriedly. "He's on Geonosis and uncovered that the Trade Alliance has joined forces with Dooku."

"And?" Selyn presses on.

Nadia sighs. "He's in trouble. They've taken him or something, I couldn't tell."

"We have to help him," Selyn decides. But then a thought arises. "Wait, why did Obi-Wan send that transmission to us of all Jedi? He couldn't possibly have known that we were nearby."

"He didn't," Nadia answers. "He sent that transmission to Anakin who retransmitted it to the council. And to us."

Selyn purses her lips. "How did he know then where we were?"

Nadia seems to suppress a smile. "Someone seems to have been keeping an eye on where your missions lead you."

Nadia's tone and the implications behind it set Selyn's cheeks on fire. She is glad Nadia can't see her blushing, even though she is sure that her master knows how she feels.

She rises determinedly, ready to jump into action. "Let's go, then."

They travel with Nadia's starfighter. Branches of blue and white light surround them on their journey through hyperspace, and worry turns Selyn's stomach into a knot. Nadia's expression is tense with uncertainty. Skies know what could be happening to Obi-Wan right now. She wonders if Anakin has started a rescue mission, too and hopes he won't be too reckless. Maybe the senator will be a voice of reason. But thinking of Anakin's temper, she doesn't dare to get her hopes too high.

Geonosis appears in the cockpit windows before them as they exit hyperspace, a giant rust-coloured sphere with rings consisting of rocks, looming in the vastness of space.

Nadia steers them into the atmosphere, they fly through fluffy clouds with a sickly yellow colour until the vision clears and Geonosis reveals its rocky, vast surface. An uneasy feeling settles in Selyn's stomach as she gazes into the barren landscape. There is something hostile about it, something vaguely threatening that makes her want to just turn their starship back around.

They near Obi-Wan's coordinates and Selyn spots a cave, relatively obscured by large rocks. "Here looks good."

The starship gently attaches itself to the ground, and with a hiss of the cockpit opening Selyn jumps out, wanting to get this mission over with as soon as possible. The soft soles of her boots hit the ground without a noise. The atmosphere is nauseatingly humid, the air heavy and filled with foreign smells, weighing her down with a sensation of exhaustion settling almost instantly. She looks around to orientate herself, and quickly describes the murky scenery to Nadia.

She extends a hand for Nadia to guide her down the ship and the warm touch of her hand reassures her. Of course Nadia doesn't need her help, when Selyn had become her padawan she had found out quite quickly that Nadia was able to navigate the world just as well as she was. But Selyn did want to keep this gesture, and if only to express her respect and affection.

They enter a cave system nearby, venturing through the smooth and dark stone tunnels. Selyn feels as if they're walking into the gaping mouth of some giant creature waiting to swallow them whole. The darkness unsettles her, and she ignites one of her blades to cast a dim light onto the floor and surrounding walls. She reaches for the force, feeling it's energy all around her and scanning her surroundings for any kind of disturbance.

They've come quite far as she notices a shift in the force. Nadia has felt it, too. Blue light illuminates her stern expression as she ignites her saber.

Then they hear it. The clicking noise and the sound of multiple wings flapping in the darkness before them. Selyn focuses, relying solely on what she can hear and what the force tells her. There are ten pairs of wings, maybe more, ready to attack. She tightens her grip around her saber, the second blade balancing it in her hands as she spreads her feet into a low stance.

Selyn braces herself and doesn't wait for the unknown creatures to make their first move. She lashes out to the one closest to her, lightsaber finding resistance, but cutting through it easily. The others open fire and Nadia deflects it with an easy flick of her wrist, positioning herself to Selyn's right.

Her master continues to protect them from the laser bolts whilst Selyn jumps and whirls around, her yellow blades wrapping her in a cocoon of sunlight, landing her feet precisely where the force guides her. She feels fear ripple through the creatures as she disables one after the other, satisfied as the humming of their wings grows fainter with each body she hears thumping to the ground.

As the last one is defeated Selyn and Nadia hurry along the corridor, with more urgency this time. Reinforcements are surely on their way. The floor grows steeper and Selyn becomes increasingly short of breath, exhausted from their fight before.

They don't come very far until she can feel the creatures nearing again, this time too many to distinguish. But in the dim light she's able to see them for the first time and instantly wishes she still couldn't - they're hideous. They appear to be some insectoid species with small, compact bodies protected by hard material like a shell.

Selyn has just decided that she and Nadia will most likely be able to hold them off as the sound of metal rolling over the ground alarms her that there is more to come. Multiple droidekas come to a halt in a semi-circle around them, unfurling their metal bodies. The shimmering blue shields have just formed around their body and Selyn absently wonders why they aren't shooting at them yet, as a man steps out of the shadows. His body and face are concealed by Mandalorian armour, shining grey and blue in the low light.

"Look at that," he says calmly, sounding almost bored. "I would have thought you Jedi to be smarter. You are not the first scum we've caught today."

Selyn prays that he he's talking about Obi-Wan and doesn't imply that he's caught Anakin and Padmรฉ, too.

Before she can lunge forward to at least put up a good fight before they capture her, the man raises his arm, gas streaming from a device at his wrist towards them.

"Be careful-" Selyn chokes a warning towards Nadia and the world goes black.
