STRANGER THINGS 4
episode seven

THE GROUP OF KIDS WERE BACK AT THE WHEELER RESIDENCE. Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Victoria were comfortably sprawled on the couch, engrossed in their conversation. Meanwhile, Josie sat in a chair, her hands restrained by cuffs, and a striking necklace adorning her neck. This peculiar necklace had the power to activate if she attempted to utilize her extraordinary abilities. Josie's frustration was palpable as she tightly clenched her jaw and shot a piercing glare at her mom, Estefina. Curiosity burning in her eyes, Estefina couldn't help but probe, "So, what exactly were you all doing at the lake?"

Josie stood her ground, determined not to provide any answers to their pressing questions. The rest of the group exchanged uncertain glances, silently urging someone to break the tense silence. Finally, one of them, Dustin, mustered the courage to speak up, their voice filled with hesitation, "Uh... it's, uh, kind of complicated..."

"We were... just going for a walk," Max stammered, trying to come up with a plausible explanation. Officer Callahan raised an eyebrow skeptically, questioning the timing, "A walk? At nine o'clock in the evening?" Josie couldn't help but roll her eyes in response. Frustration boiled over, and she unleashed her anger, shouting, "Fuck the police! You're all a bunch of pieces of shit!" Her gaze fixed directly on her mom, she declared, "And fuck you."

Ted's skepticism was evident as he scoffed, raising doubts about Josefina's presence. "Are we sure Josefina should be here? What if she tries to kill us? She's the psychotic killer with superpowers," he blurted out without hesitation. Josie's eyes narrowed, shooting a fierce glare in his direction. Sensing the tension, Estefina cleared her throat, her voice slightly shaky as she responded, "Uhm, no... she has a collar around her neck that will shock her if she tries to do anything." Avoiding direct eye contact with Josie, Estefina tried to reassure everyone of their safety.

Josie's frustration reached its peak as she clenched her jaw tightly. "I'm not a fucking killer! My mom is framing me!" she gritted out, her hands struggling against the handcuffs, causing her to almost lose her balance in the chair. Letting out a groan of annoyance, she threw her head back, unable to contain her exasperation.

Josie's frustration and anger reached a boiling point as she tuned out the conversation, fixating her glare on her mom. She felt a deep sense of betrayal, unable to comprehend why her own mother would put her through this ordeal. The overwhelming urge to scream and shout at her mom consumed her thoughts. As Mrs. Wheeler posed a question about Nancy's presence during the night swim, Josie furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, slowly returning to the conversation. Just as she was regaining her focus, Max's straightforward response cut through the tension, "No."

Dustin chimed in with a confident "Yes," exchanging a knowing look with Max. Annoyed, Josie let out a huff, catching Powell's gaze. "Got something to say, Miss Cortez?" Powell challenged, met with a fierce glare from Josie who remained silent. Victoria interjected, "We're not certain if Nancy was present."

"She was there. Then she left. It's all a little confusing."

Victoria nodded upwards, her smile forced and insincere. "That's when you guys came," she said, recalling the moment. Max nodded along, understanding the situation. Dustin, Victoria, and Lucas exchanged glances, silently acknowledging the memory. Max let out a laugh, saying, "Oh yeah, then they dared me to say what I said."

"Well, you guys are lucky you didn't get shot."

"Have you had any contact with Eddie?"

"That physco.. freak killer? God, no."

"Nope. Absolutely not."

"No. We havent heard from him." Victoria smiles. "We barely know the guy."

Erica confidently stepped forward, her arms crossed in defiance. "Oh, that's a bunch of bull," she exclaimed. The Sinclair parents quickly scolded her for her choice of words. "I mean, come on! Can't you see they're lying? And Josefina hasn't uttered a single word since they arrived! The whole couch is literally engulfed in flames!

"Erica."

"Just the facts!"

"Are you lying to these policemen, Dusty!?"

Dustin's jaw dramatically dropped, and he exclaimed in a high-pitched voice, "No way!" Josie rolled her eyes in response. Mr. Sinclair sternly reminded his son, "Lying to the cops is a serious crime, kids." Lucas' eyes widened, and he passionately declared, "I swear, I'm not lying!"

"The fire is consuming us."

"Threaten 'em with some jail time. Maybe that'll make 'em talk. You better take action against her. She's dating my son," Mr. Wheeler muttered, pointing at Josie. The Cortez girl shot him a fierce glare. "I'd never harm Mike or anyone! I'm being set up! You're a total jerk."

All the parents were caught up in a frenzy of yelling, their voices overlapping in a chaotic symphony. In the midst of the chaos, Estefina rose to her feet, her frustration boiling over. "Shut the hell up!" she bellowed, her words echoing through the room. Josie couldn't help but let out a mocking laugh. "Oh, fuck you, Mom. Fuck you and your stupid ass chief job," she spat out, her anger palpable.

"We'll take a more civilized approach, one by one. You're up first," Powell said, pointing directly at Max. Max let out a scoff, questioning, "Wait, why me? Victoria, Josie, and I aren't even part of the Hellfire Club! Victoria doesn't even live here! It's those two big dumb idiots!" she protested, pointing at Lucas and Dustin. Victoria nodded in agreement.

Estefina's gaze fixated on her daughter, her expression filled with determination. "While Powell busy interrogating Max, we're gonna have a serious heart-to-heart," she declared, folding her arms across her chest. Josie's eyes burned with anger as she shot her mother a piercing glare, refusing to utter a single word in response. The tension in the room grew palpable.

THEY BROUGHT JOSIE DOWN TO THE POLICE STATION. She found herself trapped in the system, confined to a room with her hands cuffed to the chair. Her eyes burned with fury as she directed her gaze towards the mirror on the wall. "I know you're damn well watching me, Mother! Stop feeding them lies!" she shouted, her frustration echoing through the room.

The moment of truth arrived as the door creaked open, revealing her mother's entrance. With a swift motion, she turned the chair around and settled herself in the seat opposite Josie. "Alright, Josie, it's time for a heart-to-heart," she began, her voice tinged with remorse. "I'm sorry for the lies, but it was all to keep you safe. I discovered the truth about what's really happening, and I couldn't bear to see you risking your life to save the world. Dr. Owens is en route to take you to a highly confidential location where you'll be protected. You won't have any contact with the outside world. We'll spin the story to the press that you're now in prison—"

Tears welled up in Josie's eyes as she confronted her mother. "You're just snatching me away like that? What kind of mother does that? You framed me! You could've told the press it was a damn setup, that you didn't know who killed those people! It was Vecna, damn it! I'm... I'm so done with you," she gasped, her breath heavy. Desperation filled her as she reached for her neck, desperately trying to remove the shock collar. "And get this thing off me!" she cried, tears streaming down her face.

Estefina let out a frustrated sigh and forcefully grabbed the controller, shocking Josie. The Cortez girl couldn't help but let out a startled squeal, quickly pulling her hands away from her neck. She stared at her mom in complete disbelief. "Did you just fucking shock me?!" she exclaimed, her eyebrows shooting up in shock. Josie's eyebrows knitted together as she processed what her mother had just done. "This collar won't come off. We agreed that you need... some rehabilitation?" Estefina informed her, leaving Josie even more bewildered.

"You're fucking crazy!"

The lights flickered, causing a smirk to appear on Josie's face. Estefina looked confused and glanced at Josie. "Josie..." she began, but before she could finish, the power suddenly went out. In that moment, Josie felt the shock collar unlock and fall off her neck, instantly relieving the tension in her shoulders. As the lights came back on, Victoria appeared before them. "You forgot, Ms. Cortez," Victoria paused, her voice filled with determination.

With a swift swing of her fist, she landed a punch right on Estefina's jaw. "You forgot that I can jump through shadows, go invisible, and control minds," she declared. "So, you stay right there until we're gone." Taking Josie's hand, Victoria used her shadow-jumping abilities to whisk them away. They passed through a fourth-dimensional wall, entering the shadow land. Once they emerged, Victoria's nose began to bleed, and they found themselves outside the police station.

"Come on, we've gotta go help Eddie!"

ONCE THEY GOT TO EDDIES TRAILER, They located a mattress and positioned it on the ground directly beneath the spot where Steve, Nancy, Eddie, and Robin would emerge from the Upside Down. Then, they gathered blankets and sheets and skillfully tied them together. Josie extended her hand and tapped into her inner telekinesis, effortlessly lifting the blankets and tossing them up towards the ceiling, sending them through the portal into the Upside Down.

The gang gazed up at the ceiling, their eyes filled with awe as they exchanged excited remarks about the incredible progress they were making. Robin fearlessly ascended the blankets, traversing through the realm and gracefully landing back on the mattress. With a look of amazement on her face, she sat up and exclaimed, "Oh, thank goodness! That was a blast!" Sporting a wide grin, she extended her hand, and Dustin eagerly reached out to help her up.

Then came Eddie's turn. He descended onto the mattress, his eyes widening in astonishment as he sat up. "That... was fun," he exhaled, clearly exhilarated by the experience.

Josie and Max exchanged a knowing smile and celebrated with a high-five, their hands lingering together afterward. However, their joyful expressions quickly faded when Victoria's gasp caught their attention. "Guys! Nancy is being taken by Vecna!" she exclaimed urgently. Josie and Max instinctively glanced upward, only to see Nancy trapped in a trance. "Oh, no. Vecna has her," they exclaimed, their concern evident.
