❝ you know me ❞
( real life )

✶ IRL!

nate is quick to notice destiny and chris on talking terms again within the first few minutes they pile into matt's vehicle. it's not even that they talk to one another when they get inside; nate's just easily able to pick up on destiny's sudden lack of discomfort around him.

they're sitting next to each other, so he's able to lean in and whisper on the way to the school, "you and chris make up?"

destiny feels her heart drop at the possibility of anything already being sniffed out between them, slowly turning her head and trying her best to keep her voice casual when she mutters, "yup."

"cool," he replies shortly, quickly relieving her internal worries. she looks at him a little strangely since he's been so overbearing with how she feels towards chris, and he only tells her, "i never wanted you guys to stop being friends. that was weird."

quickly, she narrows her eyes. "you're so full of shit," she whispers, knowing damn well that's not at all the way he's made it seem with how he still acts majority of the time.

he rolls his eyes. then, he replies, "no i'm not, bruh" and their conversation is over.

destiny vey much enjoyed the car ride apart from that. the night before, ruben and adora sent a picture of destiny and chris cozied up together in destiny's bed to some apparent side group chat that they made to confirm to nick and matt that chris' plans went well, so everyone is aware of what's brewing between them except nate. she knows she shouldn't, but she kind of likes having something to hide.

from the second her and nate climbed in, she's received teasing looks from nearly every passenger all the while trying to keep herself from looking at chris too much. he's sitting in the passenger seat looking as perfect as he always does and it's killing her. she should be able to stare now that she knows he feels the same as her, but she can't.

she subconsciously chews on her bottom lip, her eyes tracing chris' jawline as nate stares out his window. matt is pulling into the school's parking lot while chris complains about having to present some project the last day before fall break, and she thinks she's being subtle until he glances back to her in the midst of his rambling. the corner of his lips raise into a smirk and she quickly looks down, attempting to hide her blush as she hears him struggle before continuing on with his complaints.

she has to settle for secret glances between them up until they leave the car and make it inside the school building. she's walks side-by-side with ruben and adora down the halls after a trip to her locker, and leaves them once she makes it to her first class. she's wondering if chris has already made it here or if he's still gathering his stuff as she walks to the door, but a sudden presence far too close behind her snaps her out of her thoughts. "what the fu—"

destiny cuts herself off after she spins around to find chris stood across from her. he gives her a toothy grin that instantly melts her guarded expression, speaking through his smile to greet her, "sup, dessy."

she slowly begins to smile at him, unable to help herself as they never had a chance to actually speak in the car, and softly answering, "hey."

his grin seems to widen with the sound of her voice, and he spares a quick glance around them before reaching into a pocket to pull out his phone. she watches him look to his lock screen and then look back to her before tilting his head just slightly enough for her to notice with a squint. "class doesn't start for four minutes."

destiny's eyebrows pull together, giving him a questionable smile and replying skeptically, "four minutes isn't a very long time, chris."

"right," he deflates almost, like that was a genuine reminder for him. his lips pull together and their eye contact lingers, destiny's lips pulling together as well when he ultimately suggests, "but hypothetically, if we skipped.."

"hypothetically?" destiny repeats, the corner of her lips raising, which chris takes quick notice of. he takes a small step towards her and she feels the urge to buckle her knees, instead exhaling a breath of air and pulling her things close to her chest as he nods. "hypothetically, that'd be a lot longer..."

"i agree," he replies nonchalantly, his voice giving her butterflies. he's looking at her in a way that's asking her if she's as down as he is, and she's trying her best to look at him in a way that says yes.

ultimately, he gets the hint because wordlessly, he smiles and turns in the opposite direction of their classroom. destiny takes one last glance at the door before smiling to herself and quickly catching up with him. when he feels her at his side, he glances to her to find her eyes already on him. "so where are we going?" she naturally asks.

"are you gonna think it's corny if i say i know a place?" he replies lightheartedly, earning another smile from her as they now walk together down the hall.

"depends," she responds easily, teasing him when she continues, "how many girls have you taken there?"

chris pauses, pursing his lips and turning to glance at her as they turn down the first hallway. "funny," he says shortly at first, then unbelievably telling her, "just nick and matt."

he seems to impress her with this, judging by the raising corners of her mouth. "really?"

she sounds rather surprised, and he can't help but laugh. "that so hard to believe?"

she simply gives him a look, one to which he presses his lips together. "can't argue with that," he ultimately shrugs, destiny's expression faltering momentarily before he continues, "but things are different now."

"right," she mumbles softly, the two turning down another hallway that causes her to start paying attention to her surroundings. her eyebrows scrunch together as she can notice now that they're heading towards the back hallways in which there's hardly even any classrooms, leading her to second guess where they're going. "are you planning to kill me in school or what? becau-"

"no, des, what?" he laughs at her absurd question, giving her a look as if she's the crazy person in this instance. they're now in an area with way less people, so he doesn't think twice before grabbing her hand and starting to walk faster so that she gets dragged with him "c'mon."

"i'm scared, but 'kay," she mutters underneath her breath, simply allowing him to grab her hand and following blindly as he leads her down the deserted hallway.

"pfft," he blows a puff of air from his lips as destiny takes notice of the staircase at the end of the hall they are approaching. she hadn't even known there was stairs back here, so she can't imagine they're used much—especially with the scarcity of classrooms in the area. she's glad to find out of its existence now; she can see herself taking an absurdly long path to her classroom through here just to avoid the crowded main halls after dismissal.

when they make it to the staircase, she half-expects chris to lead her upstairs, but he instead surprises her by continuing behind the stairs. he drops her hand and goes ahead to drop his stuff under the stairs out of her view, confusing her deeply until she steps closer to take a look at where he's planning on going. "no way," destiny murmurs, her eyes widening when his plans hit her with the sudden sight of a door leading outside placed conveniently behind the staircase.

"i know, right?" he grins at the look on her face, gesturing with a nod of his head for her to set her stuff down next to his. as she hesitantly does so, he explains to her, "kid from the hockey team showed it to me freshman year."

"so you've been gatekeeping this for four years?" she deadpans after standing up straight.

chris' mouth drops, tilting his head when he reminds her, "you were still in middle school my freshman year."

destiny's nose scrunches up, his point creating the opposite effect that he intended it to. "why would you just make yourself sound like a creep like that?"

his expression remains blank. "des, please."

the corner of her lips turn upwards at the exasperation in his voice, rolling her eyes and letting the subject go as she walks towards him. he momentarily glances around them, finding the hallway they're at the end of to be completely empty before he nudges for her to follow him. he then opens the door and holds it still for her, causing her to sweetly smile at him before stepping past him to get outside. "so why didn't you go to hockey tryouts this year?" her curiosity gets the better of her once he steps out as well and the door shuts behind them.

she can tell her question catches him off guard, but he recovers smoothly with the forming of a small smirk on his lips. "been keeping tabs on me, huh?"

she can only roll her eyes, walking along the side of the building and looking back at chris who follows. "i think you sometimes forget my brother is your best friend."

a response immediately floods his mind with her words, a cheesy grin overtaking his face before he even speaks it. "that's an intentional thing, des," he tells her, feeling satisfied at the pink spread over her cheeks following his remark which causes her to break eye contact with him. he continues to smile with her back to him, taking wider steps so that he can reach a hand out to her hip as they walk.

"i'm still waiting on my answer, by the way," she says with an airy sigh, hearing one leave chris' mouth as well.

following his sigh, he uses his hand on her hip to stop her from walking any further and instead spin her around to face him. this momentarily flusters her, bringing a smile to his lips before he readjusts his hand with her now directly in front of him. "i don't think coach likes me very much right now," he answers cryptically.

destiny squints at him. "and why is that?"

he breaks their eye contact, finding the outdoors more interesting when he carefully says, "jada had me flaking on practice too much last year." he looks back at destiny in time to catch the raising of her eyebrows and feels the need to explain further. "he told me he didn't want to see my face next year, so i thought-"

"chris," destiny cuts him off with her brows drawn together, and he can practically read her thoughts with the way she's looking at him. "you didn't even try out for lacrosse either."

chris presses his lips together, slowly sliding his hand off of her hip as he analyzes the worry present in her current expression. "yeah, i'm actually kind of in the same boat there..." he hastily explains, not liking the way her mouth drops even more. "oh no," he sucks in a breath, turning to rest his back against the building wall. "is this about to turn into a des lecture?" he can't stop himself from asking.

destiny doesn't find this to be a joking matter like he does, the girl stood there clicking her tongue with disapproval. "yeah," she nods her head. "i think so."

chris sucks in another breath, nodding his head as he expected this outcome when he chose to be honest with her. "lay it on me then," he gives her the go ahead, self-aware that he needs to hear it.

"chris," she says in the same concerned voice she did earlier, her tone already telling him everything he needs to know. "you love both hockey and lacrosse. i can't believe you would let someone—honestly, anyone—get in the way of that. you should never be held back from doing the things you enjoy," she tells him sternly, yet all he can do is soften his eyes as he stares at her. "skipping try outs because you were rightfully threatened last year is stupid, and we both know that. your coaches were probably just fed up with you not prioritizing sports anymore, and most likely wanted to talk some sense into you. i would've hoped that you realized this is your time to step up, not back away because you made some mistakes, but still, i'm happy to help you do so now," she gets out with all of one breath, chris' eyebrows raising as his pupils dance with something indecipherable to her. after taking a new breath in, she lightens her tone to tell him, "i know you're better than this."

chris blinks at her, a sudden silence forming between them as he seems to need a moment to process her words. the more seconds that pass, the awkwarder destiny feels as they stare at one another. she's about to try and reword everything she just said in a more careful approach, but chris stops her from doing so when he surprises her with a kiss. her eyes widen at the urgency of his hands jumping to cup her face and bring her down to him, but once she processes what's happening, she quickly melts into his touch and allows him to pull her closer to where he's still leant against the wall.

he kisses her slowly, like he wants to take his time figuring out the way her mouth moves against his to the point where he can predict her movements before they come and match the pattern of her lips perfectly. she's never experienced such a passionate feeling before, and she's really still struggling with comprehending him even reciprocating it, because immediately, she feels swarmed with an endless possibilties of where she could touch him. she has that ability to do as she pleases now, and fuck, if that isn't insane.

she's busy overthinking where to place her hands and considering the fact that skipping class to makeout with chris is something she's certainly dreamed about before, when chris pulling away from her to catch his breath snaps her out of it. she blinks repeatedly, in a daze from his kiss as he moves his hands to the sides of her hips with a stupid smile now adorning his lips. she can feel how red her face is, and doesn't even feel dumb for beginning to smile like he is. "what was that for?" she asks quietly, loosening her hold on his hoodie strings.

he looks down to her hands wrapped around the strings and smiles some more like he's proud of her for the gesture. when he looks back to her eyes, his voice grows possibly as soft as she's ever heard it before, "i just like that you know me."

is it possible for destiny's heart to literally grow in her chest? because that's what she's sure it's doing as she beams at him. she lowers her voice to a whisper to respond, "probably better than i know myself." she never in a million years would have pictured herself being so vulnerable with him in fear of him finding out how deep her feelings towards him go, but now, shame and embarrassment are the last things on her mind. she no longer feels any fear in being transparent with him about all that she feels for him—especially with how his eyes are twinkling at her in this moment.

his smile widens, smoothly sliding his hands around to meet in the middle of her lower back and stepping forward to switch their places. destiny can't help but giggle at the feeling of the brick wall suddenly against her back, forcing herself to get comfortable as her laughter seems to only please chris further. he's very quick to connect their lips once more, and this time destiny subconciously tightens her grip on his hoodie strings.

this kiss is more heated, chris' tongue finding its way into her mouth after she tilts her head to give him easier access. his hands slide up her back as she pulls him closer to her with his hoodie, and as she pulls the strings further through his hood, she can feel him hum against her lips in response. he complies with her subtle pulling, and the space between them grows impossibly smaller and smaller the longer that they go on.

things start to get sloppier and sloppier between them before chris finally forces himself to break away from her, the two of them sharply intaking a breath. their faces are both flush with redness, and they seem to find it a cute aspect in only each other, judging by the way lovey-dovey smiles instantly follow their separation. "should've been doing this the whole time," chris mutters lowly, his hands safely dropping down to her hips.

destiny giggles—something chris is now very keen on hearing for the rest of his life—and doesn't bother disguising her lovesick voice before she teases, "you think?"
