"hey chris," nick airily sighs as he takes a seat next to his brother in the cafeteria. ruben and adora also take their seats as nick has an abnormal smile on his face, and chris is visibly taken aback. before his brother is given a chance to respond, he questions him without hesitation, "wanna tell me why you walked here with jada?"

chris' face visibly turns white, and matt and nate's eyes both widen due to overhearing nick's not-so-hushed voice. "or why you're talking to her at all?" he adds seriously.

matt seems to look to chris for denial, but when his face gives it away, he sits back in his chair with an exasperated sigh. nate merely shakes his head at chris' guilt-ridden expression, muttering, "chris..."

"look..." chris clamps his eyes shut for a short moment, clearly not having wanted this to get back to his circle. "we've been on good terms since the second day of school," he hesitantly tells nick, everyone else listening in as well as his jaw drops. the rest of the group remains shooting each other wary looks as chris tries to go on, "i didn't want to tell you guys 'cause i knew you'd react like—"

"are you kidding me?" nick interrupts him in disbelief, throwing his hands out before he exclaims, "i haven't even reacted yet!"

chris blows a breath from his lips, already hating this. "nick, stop. it's not even like th—"

"not even like that?" matt's the one to cut him off now, catching chris off guard as he whips his head around to look at him instead. "it's you, and it's jada," he says blankly, an unwanted knowing tone within his voice. ruben nods in agreement from his seat as matt exhales, "it can't not be like that."

chris only shakes his head, already aware of how this makes him look. "well, it's not," he attempts.

"you switched your classes around for her," nick accuses him, his eyes narrowed as chris audibly sighs. he knows it's not believable, but that truly wasn't intentional on his part.

"that was a coincidence," he tells him, meaning it regardless of nick's testing stare. "come on."

"i just think the switch up is crazy," adora speaks up from her end of the table, matt kissing his teeth and nick humming. she looks over to ruben and continues with, "why don't you share your opinion, rube?"

ruben resists from grinning at the question and perks up in his seat, pursing his lips as he first only offers a shrug of his shoulders. "i think chris should check his instagram."
