SWORD Headquarters | 2023
47 days since Carson Swan snapped.

WANDA MAXIMOFF barged through the front doors of the facility, not bothering to stop for anyone that was in her way. She looked up at the multiple large screens displaying all the different news feeds and her chest tightened as she read the headlines.

Celebration for the returned.

Families reunited.

Memorial held for fallen Avenger Carson Swan.

She bit the inside of her cheek and looked away from the screens as she approached the front desk. Once the man behind the desk realized who was in front of him, his eyes widened ever so slightly and he sat up straight, clearing his throat before he spoke.

"I.. uh, can I help you ma'am?" He asked.

Wanda took a deep breath and placed her hands on the desk top, leaning on them. "Where is he?"

"Sorry what?"

"Carson, where is he?" Wanda asked again.

The man subtly glanced over at a pair of double doors to his left and looked back at Wanda. "I'm sorry ma'am, but I don't know what you're talking about."

"Cut the bullshit. He's been gone for a week and although I may only know about this place because Tony and Na— Forget it, it doesn't matter." Wanda's eyes narrowed slightly. "I know you have him. So just... just tell me where he is."

"Like I said earlier, I don't know what—"

"Please." Wanda said quietly, the desperation evident in her tone. "When I came back home... he was gone. His— his body. And I know he's here. Carson shouldn't be in a place like this, I told Stark that already. He deserves to be around the people he loves. I deserve it."

The phone on the desk started to ring and the man picked it up with a sigh.

"Yes, sir." He nodded and looked up at Wanda. "Yeah, uh... she's still here."

Wanda's gaze moved up to the security camera that was pointing straight at her. Her head cocked to the side as she glared right into the lens. She knew they were watching her.

The man put down the phone and pointed over to the set of doors to his left. "Through the doors. Down the hall. Two lefts and a right."

Wanda started to walk over to where the man directed her, not giving him a chance to say anything else. As Wanda started to walk away, the man stood up to try and grab her attention but she didn't spare him a second glance.

"One moment." He called out. "I have to buzz you in."

Wanda rolled her eyes. "I got it, thanks."

With that, Wanda aimed her hands towards the door and opened it with her powers. She made her way down the corridor, following the directions she was given. As she made her way through the halls, she could feel everyone's eyes on her, feel the judgement coming from them. But she didn't care. All she wanted was Carson.

She came to a stop once she reached her destination and she looked at the small sign outside the door.

Level 1, 101. Director.

The lock to the door beeped and Wanda wasted no time in walking inside, where she was met with none other than Hayward.

Hayward stood up from his desk and approached Wanda, holding his hand out for her to shake. "Wanda Maximoff. It's an honour to meet you."

Wanda glanced down at his hand. "And you are?"

"Director Tyler Hayward." He put his hand down, realizing she wasn't going to take it. "I understand your here to see Mr. Swan. To recover his body, that is, is that right?"

Wanda scoffed. "Well I never actually consented for him to be brought here. He doesn't need your facilities."

"With all due respect, in the situation your consent wasn't needed." Hayward remarked. He glanced over at the door to the lab that was on his right. "I'd like to show you something. If that's okay with you?"

"And then you'll give him to me?" Wanda questioned.

Hayward gave her a tight lipped smile and walked over to the door. "Please, just, come with me."

Wanda followed behind Hayward, taking in her surroundings of where he had lead her. They were in some sort of observation box that overlooked different rooms in the labs. Hayward walked down the small corridor and came to a stop when he reached where he wanted them to be.

He stepped aside and gestured for Wanda to walk over to the glass. She took a few steps forward and looked down at the room below her, seeing Carson still in his coma in a hospital bed, multiple scientists in the room with him.

"What is this?" Wanda asked as she looked at Hayward. "Why are you showing me this?"

"Because you asked to see him."

The sound of a door closing in the room below caught Wanda's attention and she turned back to look at what was going on. She watched as the scientists in the room made their way over to Carson, injecting some sort of serum into his body along with multiple tubes, linking them up to a machine.

They started extracting his blood and as they powered on one of the machines, the veins in his body lit up. It spreading from his arms up to his neck. Green, blue, yellow, red, purple, orange. She'd seen this before. The day he snapped his fingers.

Wanda's breath hitched in her throat as she saw Carson start to shake violently in the bed. More scientists rushed over and strapped his arms down so he wouldn't move as much.

"Stop... stop... stop it!" Wanda's hand pressed against the glass and her eyes started to fill up. She spun around to look at Hayward. "What are you doing to him!"

"Mr. Swan has the remaining power of six infinity stones absorbed into his body." Hayward told her. "With all that power coursing through his blood... he's no better than Thanos himself. So we're disarming the most dangerous weapon on the planet."

"Weapon? Carson's not a weapon, and he's nothing like Thanos! If it wasn't for him then Thanos would still be alive! You can't— you can't do this."

"Actually, it's our legal and ethical obligation."

"Carson isn't some test subject you can study! He's a human being! And just because he can't speak for himself right now doesn't mean that you can treat him like some guinea pig." Wanda snapped. "He'd want to be in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Not by strangers. I just want to take him back to the compound, where he's been for the last two months. That's all I want."

"Are you sure?" Hayward asked.

Wanda raised a brow at the man. "Excuse me?"

"Not everyone has the kind of power that could bring their soulmate out of their coma." Hayward sighed when he saw Wanda's reaction. "Forgive me... I overstepped."

"No I can't do that. It's..." Wanda shook her head. "That's not why I'm here."

"Okay." Hayward shrugged. "But I cannot allow you to take a being that's as high a threat as Mr. Swan out of this facility, just to sit at home. So the best I can do is let you say goodbye to him here. After this we can't let in any more visitors until we've accomplished our task."

Wanda turned around to look at Carson in the room down below once more. Tears started to fall down her cheeks as she looked at his lifeless body.

"He's all I have..." Wanda whispered.

"Well, that's just it, Wanda." Hayward began. "He isn't yours. Not anymore."

And that was the final straw. Something inside Wanda snapped at Haywards words and her powers started to pool in the palm of her hands. She smashed the sheet of glass in front of her and lowered herself down onto the floor below.

Agents suddenly started to flood the room, their guns all aiming towards Wanda. Though she didn't flinch. Not one bit. If she had to take them down in order to get to him, then so be it. She didn't care.

"Fall back." Hayward's voice was heard from above. "Just let her her see for herself so this can be done with."

The agents lowered their guns and Wanda walked towards the hospital bed where Carson was lay.

"Hi dorogoy." Wanda said quietly, her voice cracking.

But of course, she got no response. She was just met with the beeping sounds of all the machines that were reading his vitals.

Wanda took a deep breath and moved her hand up to his head, gently moving his hair away before she hovered her hand above his forehead.

Her powers started to form around her hands as she tried to read him. She didn't want to believe what she felt at first, but after a few more seconds of nothing, absolutely nothing, she let out a quiet sob and tears started to escape her eyes.

"Tell me what you feel Wanda." Carson spoke softly, kissing the palm of her hand before moving it up to his head.

Wanda closed her eyes and allowed her powers to enter his mind. She could feel his presence, his love for her, everything that added up to make him, him. It was such a strange yet comforting feeling and she didn't know how else to describe it. She could just feel, Carson.

Her powers faded away and she looked up at him with a warm smile.

"I just feel you."

"I can't feel you." She whispered. "I... I can't feel you."

Wanda moved her hand up to her face to wipe away the tears that were rolling down her cheeks and unbeknownst to her, Carson's finger began to move ever so slightly.

But someone else noticed it. Hayward's eyes narrowed and he made eye contact with one of the scientists down below. The scientist nodded and walked over to the hospital bed, injecting more of the serum into Carson's neck. His finger fell back down, as if it never moved in the first place.

Wanda looked at the man who had joined them. "What are you doing... what is that?"

"Alright everybody. Back to work." Hayward ordered. "Get her out of here."

The agents nodded and began to escort Wanda out the room, gripping hold of her arms tightly. Wanda looked over her shoulder, her view of Carson being blocked as all the workers started to regroup at his bedside.

"No, wait." Wanda caught a glimpse of a scientist picking up a large syringe from off a tray. Carson's bed started to shake again and she knew exactly what was happening. "Stop it... You're hurting him! STOP!"

One of the agents that was holding onto Wanda's arm tugged her along and she writhed in his grip. "Let me go!"

Her gaze flicked up to Hayward on the level above, who was looking down at her with a faint smirk. Wanda's jaw clenched at the sight and she continued to try and push the agent off.

Wanda's mind started to get swarmed off all the images from earlier. They way his veins lit up, how the scientists were treating him as if he were some ragdoll, not even seeming to bat an eye when they saw the way his body reacted to whatever they were doing.

They wasn't helping him. They didn't care. They didn't want him to get better. They're using him. Hurting him. Destroying him. Killing him.

They're killing him.

They're killing him.

They're killing him.

Wanda threw her arms out to the side, a large burst of her powers emitting from her hands. All the agents around her were hurled to the side, crashing into whatever was in their path harshly.

She looked down at the guns that were scattered around on the floor and curled her hand up into a fist, allowing her powers to crush the weapons, rendering them useless.

Wanda turned on her heel to face the scientists, her head tilting to the side as she glared at them. They stepped away from Carson, dropping anything that was in their hands as Wanda walked towards the bed.

She looked down at his body, ripping out all the needles that were taped into his arms before undoing the restrains around his wrists.

Wanda placed her hand on his cheek and smiled. "It's okay. You're safe now dorogoy."

"Wanda..." Hayward called out to her. "I know that this is hard. But take a moment to think about what you're doing."

"Oh I have."

And just like that, they were both gone.
