A/N: Buckle up besties...
AFTER A FEW TRIES, Carson managed to removed Wanda's restraints from around his ankles. He stood up and spotted Nat and Tony further ahead so he started making his way over to them, noticing Steve and the rest of his team all running towards the hangar.
Carson approached the pair, his eyes scanning over both of them to make sure they weren't injured. Natasha smiled and gave him a nod to silently tell him that they were both alright while Tony talked to Rhodey who walked over to them.
"They're making their way over to the hangar." Carson gestured over his shoulder. "We should probably go and—"
Vision hovered over Steve and his team and proceeded to burn a line in the ground in front of them by using the mind stone, making sure they all stopped running.
"Never mind, Vision's got it." Carson said.
Tony, Natasha, Rhodey and Carson all gave each other a quick look before making their way behind Vision, where T'challa and Peter joined too, all of them forming into a line that mirrored Steve's.
"Captain Rogers..." Vision began. "I know you believe what you're doing is right. But for the collective good, you must surrender now."
Steve remained silent and kept his stance to show that he wasn't backing down. Vision sighed and flew backwards to join the rest of his team, realising that Steve wasn't going to listen to him.
"What do we do Cap?" Carson heard Sam ask from across the way.
"We fight."
"Seriously?" Carson muttered.
Steve and his team began to advance forward slowly, as did Tony and his team.
"This is gonna end well." Natasha mumbled under her breath as she began walking.
"They're not stopping." Peter said while going into a light jog.
"Neither are we." Tony replied.
Both sides picked up the pace and began running towards each other at full speed, everyone getting into the own battles with someone. Tony charged towards Steve and swung at him, his fist colliding with his shield. Rhodey and Sam began battling in the air, T'challa instantly targeted Bucky, Peter tried his best to dodge the cars Wanda was throwing at him while Natasha fought with Scott and Clint fired his electrical arrows at Vision.
As Wanda continued her fight with Peter, she felt a light tap on her shoulder. She instantly spun around and raised her hand but it was met with someone grabbing hold of her wrist and stopping her hand movement so she couldn't try anything.
"Ah, ah, ah, Maximoff." Carson smirked and gently pulled Wanda's arm, bringing her closer towards him. "There will be none of that." He gestured towards her hand that still had a faint red hue around it.
Wanda gave him an innocent smile and released her grip on the car that was for Peter. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Carson looked over his shoulder at the car then back at Wanda and gave her a confused look. "What is it with you and cars?" He asked and Wanda giggled. "You seem to be throwing them at everybody today."
"You're not feeling left out are you?" Wanda teased and gestured towards a car next to them. "If you want to be included then..."
Carson chuckled and shook his head. "I'm not going to fight you love, I don't want to hurt you."
Wanda raised a brow and leant forward, placing a kiss on his cheek. "That won't be a problem."
"Now wait a—"
Wanda removed her arm from his grip and placed her hand on his chest, using her powers to push him back but making sure not to actually hurt him. Carson huffed and started to walk forward but ducked when he saw a car coming towards him at full speed. Once it had passed over his head, he stood up straight and looked over his shoulder to see that the car had hit T'challa instead.
He looked back at Wanda. "Thin. Ice."
"Sorry..." Wanda winced as she looked at the car then back at him, before her energy started to form in her hands again.
"Really?" Carson sighed at Wanda who grinned. He rolled his neck and shook out his arms, his hands starting to glow. "Alright then."
Wanda and Carson both began firing their energy at the other, but making sure not to do too much. They were both extremely capable of seriously hurting each other if they wanted to but there's no way they'd actually go through with it. Not on purpose.
Carson noticed Wanda look to her right so he followed her gaze, seeing that she was glancing over towards the quinjet in the hangar. They both looked back at each other and she faltered slightly in her attack as she considered her options on what to do next.
But he already knew what she was thinking.
"Wanda." He warned, both of them lowering their hands as they held their gaze.
"I have to." Wanda replied, glancing back over towards the hangar.
"I can't let you." Carson exhaled and let his energy start to surround his hands once more. "I'm sorry."
"So am I."
And all of a sudden, it was as if something snapped between the two.
The pair both raised their hands towards each other at the same time, their beams of energy colliding head on in the middle as they battled for dominance. The huge eruption of red light caused everyone else to paused for a few seconds as they watched, seeing the couple both pushing further and further from their side. Carson clenched his jaw and started to walk forward as he still kept his hand up, forcing his beam of energy closer. Wanda on the other hand, began to grow more frustrated and added another hand to push Carson back, his feet scraping against the ground as he fought against Wanda forcing him backwards.
Carson peered over his hand to look at Wanda, who did the same. As soon as they caught each others gaze, both of their eyes glossed over with a bright yellow, overlapping the red. They both seemed to notice as they hesitated slightly but before they could react appropriately their vision was blocked by a familiar vision.
One that they had both seen before.
Their eyes remained locked and glowing while images of the woman with the headpiece flashed before their eyes, watching as she floated down towards them both. A familiar feeling filling the both of them.
"It's your destiny to destroy the world." A voice whispered to them.
Wanda and Carson's eyes returned back to normal and the images blocking their view quickly disappeared. They both stumbled backwards and instantly retracted their hands, their beams of energy hitting each other with ease and sending them flying backwards.
Carson took a moment to stabilize his breathing, looking up at the sky as he tried to wrap his head around what he saw. What they both saw. He groaned and sat up, instantly getting to his feet and running over to Wanda once he saw her still on the ground.
"Shit, shit, shit." He dropped down to his knees next to Wanda and moved her head onto his land so she'd be more comfortable. "Wanda, wake up, come on."
Nothing.
Carson closed his eyes and blocked out all other sounds around him and focused on listening for Wanda's heartbeat. Which to his relief, he managed to pick up. He let out a breath then opened his eyes and looked down at her, gently moving her hair out of her face.
"Wanda." He shook her lightly. "Shit... I'm so sorry. Please, you need to w—"
He was interrupted by Wanda shooting up from out of his lap, gasping for air. He carefully reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder. She flinched at first and quickly looked over her shoulder to see who it was, but once she realised it was Carson she instantly relaxed.
Carson shuffled towards her and she turned to face him. "Hey, look look at me." He cupped her face and studied her carefully to make sure she was alright as she still seemed a little out of it. "You okay?"
She took a second to catch her breath and leaned into his touch, placing her hand over his. "Yeah... I'm fine. What was... Did you— Did you see that? And...hear it too?"
He nodded and kissed her forehead.
"What the hell was that?" Wanda looked up at him.
Carson removed his hands from her face and thought for a moment before speaking again. "I don't know... but I remember seeing something similar in a vision when I was with Hydra, before Tony and the others found me."
Wanda nodded as she listened to his story intently, her brows scrunching up a little as she noticed the similarity of their experiences with this mysterious vision.
"It happened during an experiment, when they made me touch..." Carson paused mid sentence and looked towards Vision who was currently fighting alongside the others. Wanda followed his gaze, her breath getting caught up in her throat when she realised what he was about to say.
"The mind stone." The pair both said in unison.
Carson stood up and offered her his hand, helping her get to her feet. Once she was stable, he carefully removed his grip from her waist and ran a hand through his hair as he gathered his thoughts.
Wanda opened her mouth to say something but seemed to get distracted by something happening further down the airport. Carson noticed Wanda's eyes widening so he turned around and to his surprise saw a now gigantic Scott holding onto Rhodey who was trying to fly away.
"What the..." Carson mumbled.
"Give me back my Rhodey." Tony said as he flew over.
As everyone started to fight again, Carson grabbed Wanda's arm and pulled her away until they were a safe distance from the fighting. Seeing what they saw seemed to be leaving her a little dazed.
"Are you sure you're feeling alright Wands?" He asked, giving her a small smile as she looked up at him.
"I'm okay." She assured. "I just needed a minute that's all."
The couple was brought out of their little bubble as Vision phased through Scott then proceeded to shoot a beam from the mind stone at one of the towers in the airport. Carson and Wanda snapped their heads over in the direction of the falling tower, noticing that it would block Steve and Bucky from getting into the hangar.
"Something just flew in me!" Scott yelled while patting down his body in a panic.
Wanda glanced over and Carson and used her powers to push him back so she could get chance to run closer to the hangar. She caught the falling tower with her powers just before it touched the ground and began lifting it up so Steve and Bucky could still get in.
Carson quickly recovered and began running after Wanda. It wasn't even about the fact that he couldn't let them leave anymore, it was more about making sure Wanda didn't tire herself out even more by using her powers to such an extent. He could tell that she was struggling.
Just as he was about to reach her he noticed Rhodey fly over and aim towards Wanda, using one of his devices on her. She immediately gripped her head with her hands, letting out an ear-ripping scream as she dropped to the ground.
He closed the distance between him and Wanda, dropping down next to her and pulling her into his arms, his anger only growing when he saw the state she was in.
"Hey, shhh, shhh, it's okay." He soothed her while she continued to cry in pain.
"I can't— It hurts..." Wanda said between breaths, her hands still gripping her head and her eyes slammed shut.
Carson clenched his jaw and looked over at Rhodey who was cautiously walking towards them.
"I'll be back in a minute." He said while getting up and gently setting Wanda down.
Wanda opened her eyes, noticing the look on Carson's face as he glared at Rhodey. "No, Carson don't—"
"I said, I'll be back in a minute Wanda." He interrupted as he walked over to Rhodey.
"Look... I don't want any problems, I'm sorry." Rhodey lifted up his arms in surrender as he explained himself.
But it wasn't enough.
Carson raised his hand and lifted Rhodey into the air, he instantly tried to fly away out of his grasp but it was no use. There was no way that Rhodey would be able to get out of this by himself. He didn't stand a chance.
With the small movement of his hand, Carson managed to tear Rhodey's suit from off him like it was nothing, tossing it to the ground as if it was trash and leaving him in just his casual clothing.
Tony, Vision, Peter and Clint remained in the area. They all heard the yell that came from Rhodey and quickly made their way over to see what was going on.
"We're on the same team!" Rhodey shouted over to him as he struggled.
"Hm." Carson hummed in response, his energy moving up to Rhodey's neck and gripping tightly around it. "Change of plans."
They all stopped in their tracks as they approached the two, all of them sharing a look when they saw the way Carson was reacting. The small smirk on his face that could be seen behind all the rage as he watched Rhodey struggle to breathe, no hint of his normal eye colour to be seen, his whole demeanour changing. It's like he was a completely different person.
"Carson, that's enough!" Tony was the first to speak up. Although it didn't seem to have any effect at all. He just gazed over at Tony, his expressions not changing. He then turned his attention back on Rhodey.
Peter gulped. "Wow uh... you really wasn't kidding about him hurting people who touch her Mr. Stark..." He laughed nervously.
"Carson... listen to me." Wanda communicated to him through their minds as she was still in too much pain to stand up. "I'm fine, I promise. But you need to stop, you're going to ki—"
He ignored Wanda and proceeded to block her from out of his mind. Without hesitating, he tightened his grip on Rhodey and the man managed to let out a small gasp as he clawed at the energy around his neck, trying his best to pry it off. Carson rolled his eyes at Rhodey's pathetic attempt and clenched his fist, listening as his energy weaved it's way through his body making his bones and muscles contract at his force.
He noticed Rhodey struggling to keep his eyes open and he chuckled, pulling him down from the ground and over towards him, still keeping his hold on him.
"I'm not quite done with you yet, Rhodes." He forced his head up so he would look at him. "We need to have a little conversation."
"I didn't m-mean... to hurt... her." Rhodey chocked out.
"Oh, but you did." Carson replied, tilting his head slightly as he spoke. "Just know, that if you ever touch one hair on her head again, I will not hesitate to kill you. Got it?"
Rhodey nodded and Carson took a step closer.
"Consider yourself lucky, Rhodes."
Clint grabbed an arrow from his quiver and placed it into his bow, hesitantly aiming towards Carson.
"Clint..." Tony looked at him in disbelief. "But the bow DOWN!"
Carson looked over at the man and stifled a laugh. "Yeah Clint, put it down. You don't want to do anything stupid, do you?"
Clint looked between the two, Tony shouting at him to put down him bow and Carson who was just stood there with a grin on his face not seeming to care whether he shot him or not. He sighed and lowered his bow, dropping it to the ground.
"Carson!" Tony slowly started to take a few steps towards the two. "Let him go, come on bud... this isn't you."
"Alright, fine. I'll let him go." He replied nonchalantly.
With the flick of his wrist, Carson sent Rhodey flying through the air heading full speed towards one of the parked planes. Tony quickly flew after him and Peter assisted.
"I got him! I got him!" Peter yelled as he attached one of his webs to Rhodey's back and making sure he didn't hit the plane or the ground too hard.
Carson didn't even bother to look to see if Rhodey had been caught safely, instead he made his way back over to Wanda who seemed to be coming back around. He crouched down at she side of her and helped her sit up, scanning over her body to check for any other injuries that he may of missed earlier.
Wanda's eyes fluttered open once more and she took a moment to take in her surroundings, her breath hitching in her throat when she noticed Tony and Peter walking with each of Rhodey's arms slung around their shoulder, the man barely being able to keep himself up.
She looked up at Carson, meeting his eyes. They must've still been red as she cupped his face, her thumbs gently rubbing the skin under his eyes to calm him down. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, them returning to their normal colour as he opened them again.
"I'm sorry..." He removed her hand from his face and kissed the palm of it.
"Me too."
