Carson is walked, well more like pulled, into the unfamiliar room. Two guards hold onto either arm, one at his left and the other at his right, gripping tightly to restrain his movement. Not that he could do much anyway considering his hands were in cuffs that seemed to supress his powers.
Once he gets to the middle of the room, one of the guards reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small metal disc. The guard puts the disc on Carson's neck, making him scrunch his face in discomfort as it stings him slightly when it attaches to his skin.
"You can take the cuffs off him now." A voice says through the speakers.
The guard looks over to the glass where the scientists stand on the other side. "What? Take them off? He could-"
"Take them off." The voice repeats in a harsher tone than before.
Carson looks at the guard, his eyes flickering over red ever so slightly. "You heard the man." He holds out his hands, a mischievous grin tugging at the corner of his lips.
The two guards look at each other and one of them quickly shuffles over to the door, leaving the other one to unlock the cuffs instead of him. The guard gulps slightly and hesitantly takes the electronic key out of his pocket before hovering it over to the cuffs to unlock them.
When the cuffs fall to the ground, Carson looks down at his hands, letting out a chuckle when his energy begins hovering above his palm. Before the guard can walk away Carson grabs him by the neck and lifts him up off the ground and by the slight flick of his wrist the other guard who was over by the door was now also being raised off the ground by his powers, his wisps of energy wrapping tightly around his neck.
He smirked in amusement as he watched them desperately try to get out of his grip, they both began to thrash around in hopes getting even the tiniest amount of air into their lungs. But it was no use.
Because the more they struggled, the tighter his hold on them became.
"That's quite enough, Mr. Swan." The voice was heard through the speakers in the room again.
The next thing Carson knew the device on his neck was powered up sending excruciating shocks throughout his body, resulting in him releasing both guards and dropping to his knees as the intensity of the shocks increased. The guards gasped for breath and wasted no time in leaving the room while Carson was still on the ground.
Once the door to the room closed the device on his neck powered down, stopping the electrical shocks. Carson clenched his jaw in frustration and slammed his hand against the floor in anger before getting back onto his feet, glaring at the scientists on the other side of the glass.
"State your name and confirm your status." The scientist spoke into the mic.
"You know my fucking name!" Carson snapped.
Another shock.
"I'll repeat that." The scientist said bitterly. "State your name and confirm your status."
Carson let out a grunt and fired a blast of energy towards the glass which was just absorbed into the forcefield protecting it.
"Mr. Swan, if you carry on retaliating then we can always find other ways to make you co-operate. Do you want that?"
Carson narrowed his eyes at the scientist that was talking through the mic.
"Now, for the final time. State your name and confirm your status."
"Carson Swan. Test subject X." He said between gritted teeth.
"Good. Now let's begin the experimentation."
There was silence for a few seconds as the scientists began pressing buttons the control pad. A hatch in the floor soon opened, raising up a container that held a sceptre with a glowing blue stone in the middle of it.
"Touch the stone." The scientist ordered.
Carson furrowed his brows as he saw the range of reactions the other observers on the other side of the glass gave. He tilted his head slightly, focusing his hearing on the conversations the group of scientists were having about the situation.
"He's not going to survive it."
"It'll be too much."
"The girl was the only other test subject who survived this test."
He glanced over at the stone, ignoring the strange sensation he felt shoot through his body when he looked at it. "If you think for one second that I'm going to-"
When Carson took a step closer, the sceptre began shaking. The stone detached itself from the sceptre and flew over to Carson, stopping right in front of him. His hand subconsciously started to lift towards the stone, reaching out to it. He couldn't describe what it was that he was feeling but it was almost like the stone was drawing him in, like it was compelling him to touch it.
As soon as he made contact with it the outer shell of the stone cracked away and exposed it's true colour, yellow. The light of the stone became stronger and stronger and ultimately blocked the scientists view of Carson and the whole room. The impact from the burst made Carson stumble slightly but once he regained his balance and looked back at the stone, it was then when he saw her.
He couldn't make out the face of the woman that was being shown to him by the stone, all he could see was the outline of a headpiece and her red glowing eyes. It was strange really, when he looked at her it's like he completely forgot where he was and what was happening to him. It was like a wave of relief wash over him, he felt at peace.
As the vision progressed he then saw a man join the woman's side, sliding an arm around her waist. Carson watched as the woman turned to the man and placed a hand on his cheek and began softly moving her thumb back and forth in a soothing manor. As the woman did that, it was like he could feel it too. And that's when it clicked.
The man in the vision was him.
Once the realisation hit, the stone stopped glowing and dropped to the floor. And so did Carson.
"Helloooo anyone in there?" Someone's voice brought him back to reality, along with them giving him a light nudge in the shoulder.
He looked up to see Tony giving him a concerned look. "Huh? What?"
"You good buddy?" Stark asked. "You've been staring the same spot on the wall for like the past thirty minutes."
"Yeah, I'm fine." He quickly glanced over at Wanda who was talking to Nat then looked back at Tony. "I was just thinking about something that's all."
"Alright, well if you're sure... because we're about to land."
Carson nodded. "I'm good, I'm good."
Everyone gets up and gathers around the door as the quinjet touches down on the ground. Steve checks everyone knows what they're doing and does a quick run through of the plan and one the door opens everyone makes their way off the jet, keeping their eyes peeled for anything suspicious in the area they landed in.
Carson feels someone's grip on his arm and turns to see a very nervous looking Wanda. Instead of saying anything she just pulls him into a tight hug. He can practically hear her heart beating out of her chest, he wraps one arm around her back and places the other on the back of her neck.
"What is it?" He asks quietly making sure no one can eavesdrop.
"Just- please. Be careful." She says shakily.
"You dishing out this treatment to everyone or?" He chuckles, trying to lighten the mood.
Wanda pulls away and looks up at him, shaking her head. "I'm serious, okay?"
He notices the look on her face and sighs. "I know, I know. I will be, I promised you remember?"
She takes a deep breath and nods before making her way down the ramp to join the others, Carson following behind her.
"Alright, this is it everyone." Steve begins, looking between them all. "Everyone knows their teams and the parts of the base they're assigned to. Remember, there could potentially be other Hydra test subjects here so be careful where you're firing and who you're firing at. We cannot let this lead go to waste, so we have to make it count. Are you all ready?" He says, glancing at Carson longer that he does with everyone else.
"Ready."
