~ Caitlin's POV ~
After school, Felicity and I went to my house.
"So, let's see it. What are you wearing tonight?" Felicity asks sitting on my bed.
"Uh, this?" I said pointing to the school clothes that I wore earlier.
"That thing?"
"What's wrong with it?"
"This is your first high school party. You deserve a makeover."
"I don't know..."
"Please! Do it for me... More importantly, do it for you. Let yourself stand out for once!"
"Your right. Let's see what I got in my closet."
"Well? What do you think? Is it too much?"
"No, it perfect. Barry won't be able to keep his eyes off of you."
We then went downstairs to the living room and see my dad set up some board games on the coffee table.
"So, I think we've got time for one round of Monopoly and a best - of - three in connect four before I have to head into the office." He said and then glanced at us.
"Oh! Hi, Felicity. Caitlin... You look very nice. Are you two going somewhere?"
"Oh, Dad, I forgot to tell you... Felicity and I made plans."
"Plans? What kinda plans?"
"We're going to a party."
"A party? Since when do you go to parties?"
"Well, I got invited. I'm also trying to get out of my comfort zone."
"Ah. Say no more, I get it. Well, no worries it's your birthday. You celebrate it however you like. We can play some other time. But be safe! You'll be home by ten, right, Caitlin? I'm leaving for my night shift around then."
"I'll make sure of it! Bye, Mr. Snow!" Felicity said grabbing my hand and heading to the door.
We make it to Hunter's mansion and I freaked the fuck out. His house is packed with people. Music blasting from the speakers. Neon lights and a pool!
"Soak it all in," Felicity said.
Beer sloshes from a pitcher onto her shoulder.
"So this is a party? This is epic! It's loud, bright, and vibrant. Beauty in chaos."
"Glad you're liking it. So, you're the birthday girl. Whatcha gonna do?"
"I want to hit the dance floor!"
We head towards the middle of the floor and dance away losing ourselves to the beat of the music.
"Who's that hot chick with Hunter and Barry," Felicity said.
I look across the room and see Hunter with a backpack approaching Barry and a blonde-headed girl. Barry and Hunter shake hands.
"My dude! So glad you made it!... Who's this?" Hunter asks.
"This is Sara."
"Hello, Sara. I hope you're not a vegetarian. Cuz I want to feed you some meat." Hunter flirted getting closer.
She was about to punch him till Barry stopped her. "Don't you'll ruin this."
Barry lets her go and she calms down. "Let's just get this over with." She said gritting her teeth.
"I like them feisty." Hunter winks.
Hunter then hands over his backpack to Barry, who unzips it and checks inside.
From a distance, I was able to see it stuffed with stacks of cash.
Barry gives the okay to the girl and she tosses a set of keys to Hunter in exchange.
"Okay, now that it's done" the blonde-headed girl then kicked Hunter in the balls. He groaned in pain and everyone laughed.
With a satisfied smirk, she picked up the backpack full of cash and walked off to her sports car, and speed off.
"That was so hot," Felicity commented.
"You like her don't you?"
"What!... No, I don't even know her... Why would I..." Felicity blushed.
"I'm only teasing you."
Felicity and I continue to dance, drink, and have fun. I was a little tipsy but not completely out. Soon I see Barry staring at me I try to look away but I can't he's just so dreamy. Felicity encourages me to talk to him.
"Hey!"
"Hey, yourself."
He looks me up and down. "Wow, you look amazing." He said which caused me to blush. "Thanks," I say shyly.
"You had me worried there. Thought you hadn't shown up. Until I saw you across the room."
"You must have great eyes then.
I mean, your vision. Because you saw me, cuz... Your eyes are great. Not that I'm, like, into your eyes gosh I'm sounding like Felicity."
"Am I making you nervous?"
"Very, " I nod.
"How come?"
"Because you're fucking hot."
"You cut right to the chase. I like that." Barry smirks.
"Come on. It's no secret. You know you are."
"It may have come up in the past. I like that you say exactly what you're thinking."
"Well, what are you thinking right now?"
"That there's gotta be something better we could be doing with our night."
"So, who was that girl that was with you? Was she your girlfriend?"
"Who Sara? Nah she's just a friend. She was helping me sell Hunter a car. He's got quite a collection in the garage here. I can show you the collection if you want. Maybe a kiss or two, if you ask nicely." He winked.
I nod and smile.
Holding my hand he leads me into a luxurious garage lined with rows of stunning cars.
"Wow! You sold him all of these?"
"Most of them."
"How?"
"I have my ways."
"Say what you want about Zolomon, but the guy has taste," Barry says as he Lovingly runs his hand over a blue car.
"There's nothing quite like the thrill of a ride... The way she purrs... There's nothing like it."
"You really love cars, don't you?"
"Every car got a story just like people."
"Then what's your story?"
"You sure you want to ask that? It's not a happy one."
"Of course I'm sure. Like, where are you from?"
"Honestly, I've spent my whole life on the road. I've lived all over. Nowhere I'd ever take a nice girl like you."
"Who said I'm a nice girl? Maybe I'm not as nice as you think I am. Maybe I'm a naughty girl."
"I doubt that."
Barry opens the door of a red Ferrari and gestures for me to sit inside.
I slide in the leather chair and run my hands over the smooth steering wheel.
"You look good behind the wheel."
"It's gorgeous. How much is it?"
"$315, 947. You wanna take it for a spin? Hunter owes me a few favors."
"I wouldn't know what to do with it. I never learned to drive." I say and then he laughs probably thinking it was a joke. And then he reads my face, his eyes go wide.
"You're serious."
"My dad won't let me."
"Why?" Barry asked.
I let out a heavy sigh.
"A few years ago my mom and I went to the movie theaters and when we went back home... We were involved in an accident. I survived but... My mom didn't. My dad blames himself for not being there on time... For not being able to save her and ever since then my dad has never taught me how to drive. He says he doesn't want to lose me the same way he lost my mom." I say tears stream down my face.
Barry uses his thumb and wipes away the tears from my face he slowly lifts my chin and gives a kiss.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that. I know how you feel I lost my mother too." He said sadly.
"Does the pain ever go away?"
"It gets easier to live with, and you learn to accept it, maybe even grow from it, but that pain will never go away, it will always be with you. It will heal in time we just got to be strong and continue our lives one step at a time." He smiles sadly.
Barry offers me a hand and helps me get out of the car.
"Thank you," I say smiling at him.
"No problem just glad I got to see that beautiful smile of yours again." Barry leaned closer and was about to kiss me again when he sharply pulled back.
"Do you hear that?"
"What?"
"Sirens." He said his face turning serious.
I can hear police sirens drawing closer... And a commotion coming from the party. We head back into the main house.
"Oh fuck! The Cops! They're here!" Hunter said as everyone started to scream and run in different directions in complete chaos.
"Shit! My first time going out, and I'm going to get arrested! My dad is going to kill me!" I panicked.
"I won't let that happen. Come on. I'll get you out of here."
I try to head to the front door where everyone else is going but Barry grips my arm stopping me in my tracks.
"That's where the cops will corner everyone. This way, and stay close!"
I grab Barry's hand and he leads me against the flow of people.
"Don't let go, Cait."
"I won't."
Barry slams open a side door.
"My car is just through here."
We dash across the Mansions backyard and run into the property's wrought-iron fence.
"There's no way out! We're trapped!" I said. Barry then grabs my hips and easily lifts me, vaulting me up over the fence.
Barry then leaps up and grabs the top rail, muscles ripping as he lifts himself up and over, landing easily next to me.
"We're almost there. Stay low!"
From a distance, I saw a pair of police cruisers skid to a stop outside the front entrance of the mansion, cornering people as they flee.
"Hey! Those two are getting away outback! Go cut them off!" An officer said.
I finally spot Barry's car and we get in.
He throws the stick into gear and hits the gas.
The car speeds off onto the road just before a squad car can block our escape.
"They're right behind us Barry! Step on it!"
"That's the plan, Snowflake."
Berry swerves, dodging the incoming squad cars, and races past them laughing.
"What are we going to do they're catching up."
"I'm going to have to do something risky. Do you trust me?"
I look into his dreamy eyes.
"I trust you."
"Then hang on."
Barry yanks the e-brake and spins the wheel. The car smashes through a barricade and careens off the edge of an overpass, taking flight!
My heart's in my throat, weightless for a split second feels like an eternity. I squeeze Barry's hand tightly.
And then we land hard on all four wheels, several feet down on the freeway, speeding away from the police trap!
"Oh my fucking god, that just happened."
"Piece of cake."
"Shit. They're sending in Chopper's." Barry said peering up into the night sky.
"They're going to see us."
"Don't count on it, Snowflake."
Racing at 90 miles an hour, Barry suddenly kills the lights and the engine, plunging everything into quiet darkness.
Barry deftly swerves around the Chopper's searchlight. The helicopter passes overhead and keeps going.
"We lost them."
Soon, after giving Barry my address, we're pulling up to my house.
"You okay, Cait?"
"I feel fucking amazing! I feel so alive Barry!"
"Happy to oblige." He smiles.
"Seriously I want to do that again."
"That's the thing about life on the edge. One taste only leaves you wanting more. But maybe some other time. I try to only run from the cops once or twice a week."
"Thank you. For saving me. Bear." I say kissing him goodbye.
Barry tangles his fingers up in my hair and kisses me deeper.
At last, I pull away. He smiles at me.
"You really know how to leave 'em wanting more, don't you?"
"You made this birthday one for the record books."
"Hold up. Today was your birthday?"
"Did I leave that part out?"
He leans in close and whispers in my ear. "Happy birthday, Snowflake." Which sends chills down my spine. And kisses me again.
I get out of the car and make my way up to the front door and then blow him a kiss goodbye.
