~ Caitlin's POV ~
Beep, Beep, Beep!
"I hate Mondays." I groaned and turned off my alarm clock. I then get out of bed tiredly and pick up my iPhone from my nightstand and checked my messages.
"Happy eighteenth birthday, Caity!" I read out loud the message from Felicity.
"Oh yeah, today's my birthday! I'm finally turning eighteen!" I text back.
"So... What's the first thing you wanna do now that you're technically an adult?" Felicity asks.
"I've always wanted to get a tattoo," I tell her.
"Then let's go to a tattoo parlor after school," Felicity said.
"I dunno... I got to ask my dad first."
"Come on, Caitlin. You only turn eighteen once. We should be going to a party!"
"Yeah, but you know how my dad is." I text back sighing.
"Yes, but today's your birthday and we should go all out. Can we at least continue our tradition of stuffing our faces with cake?"
"Of course!"
"Yes, I'll meet you at school. love ya."
"Love ya too."
I do my morning routine and put on a cute dress. "Hey there, cutie.' I say winking at myself in the mirror.
I then go downstairs to the kitchen and see my dad cooking up some breakfast.
"There's my birthday girl. What do you want for breakfast?"
"I'll have some funfetti pancakes."
"Thought you might say that. Order up! One Caitlin special." He said putting a stack of pancakes in front of me.
"You know me so well," I said taking a bite of my food.
"You're my daughter. It's my job."
"So, any plans for your big day?"
"Same as last year. Stuffing cake in my face with Felicity and then head back home for board games with you."
"Don't think I'll take it easy on you just because it's your birthday."
"You're telling me you were actually trying when I wiped the floor with you last time?" I said and my dad laughed.
He then reaches into his pocket and slides over on the table a small black box tied with a ribbon.
"You know, Caitlin, every morning I eat breakfast at this table with you, and every morning I'm amazed at how you've grown into such a strong and responsible young woman. And I always think about how proud your mother would be of you."
I open the box and find a necklace.
"Dad... T-This is-"
"Yes. It was your mother's and now it's yours." My dad said and he helps me put on the necklace.
"Dad it's beautiful. Mom would be proud of you too."
"Thank you, sweetheart. That, uh... Means a lot." He said averting his eyes.
"Now finish up your breakfast. Don't wanna miss the bus and be tardy on your birthday."
"Actually... I was kinda thinking... Remember last year on my birthday, we talked about driving lessons? And you said maybe next year--"
"Caitlin, I know I said we'd talk about it. But it's just too dangerous driving with a bunch of teenagers speeding all over the road."
"You don't want to know how many bad accidents I've seen."
"But, Dad don't you trust me?"
"I do trust you, Caitlin. It's the world I don't trust."
He then leans down and kisses the top of my head.
"Love you, sweetheart."
"Love you too, Dad."
Soon I'm on the bus on my way to school full of noisy Freshmen, Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores.
That's one of the reasons I want to get my driver's license and a car. I try to bury my head in a book but the bus bounces so much I can't even read.
I let out a frustrated groan.
The bus then stops at a red light and I hear a deep rumble as a sleek red sports car pulls up in the next lane.
I sigh gazing absently at the nice ride.
"Sure would be nice to go to school like that instead."
A cute boy behind the wheel of the car meets my gaze and winks at me. Then the traffic lights turn green, and the car races off engine roaring.
I exit the bus in front of the school and notice the red sports car from earlier parked in the lot.
"Weird... Never seen that car here before."
"Caitlin! Hey, Caitlin! over here!" Felicity said walking towards me. She then hugs me tightly.
"Well? How's it feel being Eighteen?"
"I'm being stupid but... I just thought I'd wake up this morning and I'd suddenly be exciting. Someone worth noticing. Someone different."
"But you are different! You're an adult now! You get to decide what you're all about."
"In that case, I'm all about falling in love."
"Love is great. But it's not everything. Sometimes you have to put yourself first."
"That's what I've done my whole life. Put my studies first. Put my future first. I want someone else to put me first for a change."
"You will, I know it. I have seen your future, and in it, your lover is a snack." Felicity said and we walked forward giggling.
I then crash into somebody's back and fell to the sidewalk spilling my textbooks.
My face is an inch away from a pair of red chucks and I slowly look up and see the cute boy with the red sports car.
He looks down at me with a cocked eyebrow. He was talking with the richest boy in school Hunter Zolomon.
"That was embarrassing that I'm embarrassed for you. Wow, is that what humiliation feels like." Hunter said making me feel shame then the cute boy offered me a hand.
I take his hand and he easily pulls me to my feet. "I'm really sorry about running into you. It won't happen again." I apologized.
"It won't? Too bad." He pouted.
"I just got distracted, and then I didn't --um-- sorry, but who are you?"
"The names Barry. Barry Allen." He smirked.
"I haven't seen you around, Barry. Do you go here?"
"Not exactly. Though right now I kinda wish I did." He flashed a cute smile.
I blushed at the comment.
"Barry, your very kind. I dabble in charity too. But could you please focus on me?" Hunter said angrily.
"We'll do the exchange at my house party tonight. The hottest girls, Bar, DJ... You'd be stupid to miss it."
"Stupid, huh... Is she coming?" Barry asked pointing at me.
"M-Me!" I asked shocked.
"Her?" Hunter said baffled.
Barry then nodded to my advanced textbooks. "You seem smart. And I wouldn't wanna be stupid now, would I? So if you're going..."
"I-I mean party? Tonight? I'm not invited..."
"Of course she invited! This is my good friend... Erm... Her name's..."
"Caitlin," I answered.
"So, I'll see you at Hunter's party then, Cait."
"Maybe," I say smiling.
"Maybe?" He said raising a brow.
"What can I say? I go where the wind takes me."
"A girl after my own heart." He said smiling adorably.
"Alright, Hunter. We've got a deal. See you tonight."
They shake hands and part ways. Then, with one last look at me, Barry gets in his sports car and takes off.
The whole school stares after his sports car as he zooms away. The moment he's gone I turn to Felicity.
"What the fuck just happened?"
"Um, the hottest guy on Earth was totally flirting with you!"
"Yeah, I guess we're going to a party!"
