xix. flying kisses

The day Kyra had been waiting for finally arrived. She had never been to one of Shubman's matches before, but this time, he had invited her to come watch him play in one of the most important games of the series.

The atmosphere was electric, the crowd roaring as the teams warmed up, but Kyra's attention was solely focused on Shubman.

She was seated in the stands with a couple of his teammates' families, Coco resting at her feet, her excitement clearly visible in her wagging tail as she tried to catch glimpses of Shubman on the field.

Kyra was dressed casually but still stylish, in a loose white shirt, black jeans, and sneakers — comfortable, but enough to show that she was his biggest supporter.

Her hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail, and she wore a pair of sunglasses perched atop her head, trying to shield her eyes from the bright afternoon sun.

But despite the crowd and the bright lights, Kyra couldn't take her eyes off Shubman.

The game began, and Shubman was his usual calm, collected self, his focus unwavering as he played. He was batting, the ball coming at him in fast, calculated patterns.

Kyra could see the way his posture stiffened every time the ball was bowled, his eyes tracking it with precision.

Every stroke of his bat, every successful shot he made, made her heart skip a beat. She had never seen him in his element like this — completely immersed in the sport he loved.

The match was tense, and as the minutes ticked by, Kyra's nerves grew. She had a feeling Shubman was going to do something incredible, but she didn't expect what happened next.

Shubman reached his century.

The crowd erupted in deafening cheers, but through all the noise, Kyra could only hear the thundering of her own heart.

She was on her feet, her hands clapping as she stood in the stands, her excitement palpable.

And then, just as the crowd's cheers died down, Shubman did something that made her heart flutter.

He turned slightly toward the stands, his eyes scanning for her. When he spotted her, he gave a slight nod of acknowledgement, a smile playing on his lips.

Kyra grinned back, her heart swelling with pride. Without thinking, she blew him a kiss, her hand cupped delicately to her lips as she sent him a playful, yet loving gesture.

She could see the surprise and the twinkle in his eyes as he caught the kiss, his grin widening even more.

"Love you, Shubs!" she mouthed, making sure he saw the words. She held her hand over her heart, pointing at him as if to say, You've got this. I'm here for you.

Shubman, now fully aware of her presence, gave her a quick wink before turning his attention back to the game, but Kyra could see the confidence in his posture as he faced the bowler.

There was something about her, something in her gaze and her simple but affectionate gesture that seemed to fuel him, making him feel like he was invincible.

The rest of the game passed by in a blur for Kyra as she watched him play, occasionally turning to look at her and making little gestures like pointing his bat at her when he hit a boundary.

It was clear that his focus was unwavering, but the spark between them remained, even from a distance.

As the match neared its end, Shubman had played a crucial role in his team's victory, and when the final ball was bowled, the game was over.

The stadium was filled with cheers, but Kyra's heart was racing with pride for the man who had just scored a century.

After the match, as the players headed into the locker room to freshen up, Kyra was waiting by the entrance, pacing back and forth with Coco in her arms.

The moment Shubman stepped out, wiping the sweat off his face with a towel, his eyes scanned the crowd for her. When he found her, he grinned widely and waved, making his way over to her with long strides.

Kyra couldn't contain her excitement, and as soon as he was within reach, she launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck and planting a kiss right on his lips.

Coco, seemingly aware of the occasion, barked happily, wagging her tail like she was part of the celebration too.

"I knew you could do it," Kyra said breathlessly, pulling back slightly to look into his eyes. "A hundred runs, Shubs! That was amazing!"

Shubman laughed, his face flushed with a mixture of exhaustion and happiness. "I had a little help," he said, grinning. "Your flying kisses helped me get through it."

Kyra laughed, her heart fluttering at his words. "You're the one who did all the hard work. I just sent you some love to keep you going."

He pulled her close again, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, "And it worked. You always know how to keep me grounded. You're my lucky charm, Kyra."

She smiled softly, tilting her head to look at him. "So, what's the plan now, Mr. Century Maker?"

"Well," he said with a mischievous grin, "I think we should celebrate. You, me, Coco... how about a nice dinner and some ice cream to top it off?"

Kyra's eyes sparkled. "Sounds perfect. But first, let's get Coco some treats. She's been our biggest cheerleader today."

As they walked hand in hand, with Coco trotting happily by their sides, it was clear to Kyra that this was one of those moments she'd always remember — not just for the game, but for the love and the bond they shared.

The way he had looked at her during that century, the pride in his eyes when he acknowledged her love, made her feel like she had everything she needed.

It was more than just a celebration of Shubman's victory. It was a celebration of them — together.
