"Maa please try and understand I-I can't marry him," Kavya said desperately to her mother.
"I can't understand why? You wanted to settle down in your life so you did. Now it's high time you get married." Her mom replied who was busy in her cooking.
Kavya stood beside her mother. "I will marry whoever you want but not him please." Her mother shook her head. She decided not to reply and let her daughter continue her rant.
"Maa, please. Listen to me. I will not marry him." Kavya almost yelled.
"And why not?" A voice spoke from the door.
"Papa I-" Kavya turned on her heel to see her dad standing on the door.
"That's not how you talk to your mother." Her dad with a straight face. "And why don't you wanna marry him?" Her dad asked.
Cause he is my ex. She thought.
Kavya came from a very strict, conservative Indian family. She was almost scared to speak in front of her dad. Her dad would kill her if he came to know she has had secret boyfriends. Her dad didn't even like her or her sister having many guy friends and having a boyfriend was forbidden in their wildest dream.
And now her dad wanted her to get married to her ex. The irony.
"I don't know anything about him," Kavya mumbled quietly. She bit her bottom lip.
"Your maa even didn't know anything about me when we get married." Her dad spoke. "And you're meeting him so know him as much you want to."
"Yes, papa." She gave a nod said with quite a tone.
....
"I'm gonna sell this shit to Disney or Karan Johar. Arranged Marriage with your first ex." Sakshi laughed on the phone.
"Dude just shut up," Kavya said back in her phone clearly irritated. She was in the cab for her date with her precious ex. She wasn't sure if Dhruv knew that it was her whom her parents had chosen. But she was sure Dhruv's mom Jaya had recognized her. Kavay knew that Jaya knew who Kavya was. Then why she was doing this.
"Sakshi please do something... I don't wanna go." Kavya said in a pleading tone.
"How many years after you guys are meeting?" Sakshi asked. Sakshi and Kavya were causal friends from in college and by every passing year their friendship got stronger and by the end of their college, they had been in best friends. Sakshi did felt a bit bad that Kavya never told her about him.
"Probably 8 years. I never saw him after school." Kavya sighed.
"Well, all the best for it probably would be Mrs. Malhotra," Sakshi said in between her giggles.
"Meet me in the office tomorrow. I swear you will go back in one piece." Kavya threatened her. After saying goodbye she cut the phone and looked out of the window as the huge building passes by.
...
Kavya turned the page of her book as she walked to her table, she was sitting in the library previously. She wasn't paying attention to where she was going. Her full focused was in her book and it caused her to bump into someone making her drop her book.
"Again you?" Kavya said with a frown as she looked up to see a familiar face looking down at her. "It's literally the 6th time in this one month we had bumped."
"Why you're the one who always bumps into me?" Dhruv asked taking off his headphones from his ears. "Why can't I just bump into Mrs. Rai instead?" He asked with a sigh.
Kavya bends down and picked her to book up. It wasn't even one month in her new school and this was the 6th time she was bumping into School's one of 'the hottest guy', which he was according to those giggling girls. And those weren't just normal bumps. They were pretty hard. She fell twice in the ground because of it and one time almost fell on him. Almost.
"Well, this time it's your fault. You have headphones on and you're eating chocolate in the library." Kavya said looking down at his hand. He was holding a half-eaten chocolate bar in one hand and another one and his phone and a book.
"But I didn't bump into other 20 people in the library... I bumped into you." Dhruv shrugged.
Kavya rolled her eyes. "Now please excuse me I need to do my assignment." She held her book tightly against her chest. She started walking but Dhruv stopped her.
"Wait are you doing the Economics one?" He asked. Kavya nodded in response. "Can you help me? I'm also trying to do that one..." He pointed out the Economics reference book he was holding. "But couldn't figure out something." He added.
"Umm... Okay sure." Kavya shrugged casually. She didn't see any harm in it.
Kavya sat down on her previous seat and a few seconds later Dhruv also came with his bag and book and sat down next to her. Kavya gave him a small smile and turned to look for a certain chapter on the book.
"Chocolate?" Dhruv asked offering the half-eaten chocolate.
Kavya looked at the chocolate then back to him. "No, thank you." She smiled.
"It's okay take it." He smiled gave the chocolate. He watched as she hesitated for a second before taking the bar. She took a bite. The hour went by Kavya helping Dhruv with the assignment. And sharing the remaining chocolate.
....
Dhruv walked into the cafe. He was feeling utterly stupid. He had no idea who was the girl his parents had chosen for him. Neither he knew how she looked nor her name. His mom only told him to meet her in this particular cafe nothing about the girl. And he even had forgotten to ask his mom about anything about the girl. Now he wasn't sure how he was going to recognize her.
Dhruv had a feeling that probably the girl was the daughter of his dad's some business partner. And maybe it was some kind of business deal marriage. His parents had forced him before to meet the daughter of their business partner. And he wasn't denying the fact they were quite fun but he couldn't imagine any of them as his wife and life partner.
They weren't just his type. He always thought. But he never realized that he didn't found his type because unknowingly he was comparing all the girls with a certain one.
Dhruv walked a bit inside, trying to figure out who the girl was. But he didn't find anyone who could be the girl. He decided to call his mom and asked her to send a photo of her or even the phone number. Dhruv pulled out his phone from his pocket. He turned in his heels as he went to the contacts on the phone. He was about to press to call when he bumped into someone almost losing his balance.
He steadied himself. A girl was holding his shirt front in her fist to stop her self from falling. And his hands were on her tiny waist. But he couldn't see her face as she was looking down. She stepped back as he let her go. "Are you okay?" He asked trying to remove the wrinkles from his shirt. He looked at the girl who was looking down at her dress trying to fix it.
She looked up as she spoke, "Yeah I'm ok-"
But she couldn't finish it.
"Oh," Kavya mumbled.
"A-ha," Dhruv mumbled back looking at the girl in front of her.
