Chapter 13

~¢13~

I have Been on many dates before but not was a memorable and as special as this one. Okay, maybe that's because I've never really been on dates with anyone not even in my past relationships. Either way, this was a really special date and I was more than ready for it.

It was 3:30 on dot and I was applying mild makeup on my face using powder, concealer gloss, and a few other things. Once I was done I adjusted my gray body con gown that hugged my body perfectly, carried my bag which contained my phone credit card and my spare key to the room since I was the only one who hadn't left for home.

Yeap due to covid 19 all my roommates have left for their homes under the schools, command expect me and that was because I was still having a hard time processing all this. Just as I stepped out of the hostel I headed to the bus stop to get a cab to the gate. Getting to the gate I got a call from my mom and you might as well guess what she was about to say.

Mom: Anuuuu!!!! Shey o fe pa mi ni??? Eh, kilode. Why are you still in that school?? Didn't they tell you to go home two days ago!!

Me: mom—-

Mom: What is the matter, are you the only one in that school? They said you should go home!! Go home Anu comes home ehhh do you want to kill me ni!

Me: mom it's not —

Mom: I give you 24 hours Anuoluwapo if you are not in this house before the end of tomorrow, ahhhh! It is me that will come and disgrace you out of that hostel.

Me: mom! It's—

The line went dead. Yes guys that's my overprotective, slightly paranoid but still loving mother. I sigh boarding another bus heading to The place, a well-known restaurant located in alomeji close to Yaba. I got there 5 pm on dot and it didn't  take time to spot my boyfriend Chike. I smile at me the minute he noticed me but my smile didn't reach my eyes and that was because of what mother said. She always calls me by my real name, not Moana, but what everyone calls me. She didn't even let me speak urgh I groaned still standing at the entrance of the restaurant.

" hey is everything okay ?"

I didn't even notice when he left his seat to come to stand by me. With his hand around the small of my back, he guided me towards our sit all the while his eyes when on me.

"Stop looking at me like that"

I said chuckling and he smiled genuinely causing me to give one of mine. We sat there for a minute in silence and this time he looked at me square in the eyes and asked.

"What happened. You were fine this morning when I called, what happened, is one of your roommates causing trouble? You look really upset."

"It's okay, I'm okay now that I'm here."

"No. You are not okay and it's clearly written on your face."

" sigh, mom called and she said a lot of things not giving me a chance to speak."

"I'm so sorry to hear that. I know what will cheer you up, how about we order something to eat hmmm"

I just hummed my response bring out my phone to go through my Instagram feeds while He got up to order our food.

We ate while making small talks about anything else but school and as usual, one conversation led to another until we were talking about marriage. My Worst subject of conversation when it comes to him. I sighed immediately he brought the topic up and as usual, he had his poker face on.

" Why do you always have to sigh or kiss your teeth every time I talk about this. We are walking towards getting married right, so why do always act so cold when I bring it up."

" because there are bigger and better things to talk about Chike, Incase you haven't noticed. The whole world is literally at a standstill, we are in the middle of a global pandemic, my mom wants me home and Alive In less than 24 hours and all you are worked up about is how I am going to Carry myself when I'm Mrs. Okolo. Seriously Chike!"

Yeap I couldn't hold it in. I just had to vent all that out on him In the middle of our date and at the worse palace ever. Well, the good thing is everyone else who Witnessed this acted like nothing happened because the chattering didn't die down, and neither were there awkward glances. Chike looked at me chuckled humorlessly and said.

" really babe is this how you are going to Handel this, yell at me In the middle of our date? It's pretty obvious that when we are married you're going to do the same thing maybe even Worse Than this."

I looked at him having absolutely nothing to say I just kept eating. He shook his head and continued eating as well but i couldn't help but feel like this was probably going to be my last date with Chike and dear I say I was oddly happy about it. As loving and as caring as he was, he wax still a real pain in my ass. One I was on the verge of getting rid of but my mind kept playing the what if's.

I sighed again finishing my meal and picking up my phone to get busy with it because I wasn't ready to face him. At least not yet I couldn't even Summon Courage to look at his face right now. I just couldn't do it so I opted for playing candy crush on my phone, while I was at it a WhatsApp message popped in, and since I had nothing even to do I open it To see who the message is from.

+234 90 5943 8030: hi Raquel, it's me Again um Liam Sayeed Shahidi. Yara's little brother. Sorry for putting you on an extremely long rain check. I would have told us to grab a coffee if your not busy and the world isn't on a global pandemic.

Me: oh hiii Liam of cause I remember you. And it's totally a surprise that you are still in Nigeria, I thought you would have gone back home the minute the whole Covid thing started.

+234 90 5943 8030: yea I wanted to but my flight got delayed and a lot of other things plus the movie production thing is still on so. Yes, bummer.

"Who are you talking to Moana. Hey you know I'm sitting right here and you chose to ignore me just because we had a little argument? Is this really how you are going to a be handling thing when we are married?"

Yes, I was pissed at his choice of words and statements but right now I was too happy to care. I was chatting with Liam freaking Shahidi. Who exactly is Chike right next to him. I giggled at the thought of that which even got Chike more upset than I expected making Him do something I also didn't expect. He snatched the phone from my hand and slammed it on the table almost cracking the screen in the process.

"Hey be careful! Don't smash my phone when we both know we don't have money to replace it!"

"I am talking to you young lady and this is how you show respect? Hmph, who are you even chatting with anyway."

He went through my chat and boom just like I anticipated he took my conversation with Liam to and another level, Misunderstanding the whole thing and blowing up on my face. But thankfully he was smart enough not to blow up in my face when we were at the restaurant. We got back to school at 8:30 pm and the whole meltdown started once we were at the monument of my hostel and safely out of earshot.

"Moana, why are you doing this to me. You know how much I love you, yet you go behind my back doing something I don't like. Why ?"

" Chike you keep acting like we are married but we are not. There is no single time I talk to you that you don't bring marriage up. You always do and sometimes that's all we end up talking about. And you know what, it's exhausting okay you are emotionally and mentally draining the energy out of me. And for once i meet someone new to get a breath of fresh air and now you're Indirectly accusing me of cheating. how is that fair!!"

" oh, so you do know you cheated on me. With a lying wannabe who just wants to f*** you!"

"Oh shut up! You know absolutely nothing! You know what I'm done yelling at you and if you really want "US" to work then don't focus on our future. Focus on the now because that what's in front of you."

" Can we at least set some ground rules concerning our marriage because I really don't like how you are acting right now."

"Oh yeah? well, the way you are acting is making me rethink getting married to you at all and from the looks of things. I doubt we would even Make it to that bridge talk less of crossing it. Good night Chike and thanks for the date."

With that, I walked out on him not even wanting to prolong the dialogue any longer. I had had enough and I was going straight to bed even if it means sleeping with make-up on because I was too tired to clean it off.
