Chapter 63

Friday 21st May, 1977

The marauders went upstairs after a while when Remus had started feeling sick, all four of them like a pack as they disappeared into their dorm. I was worried about Remus and wanted to check up on him, but I also didn't want to stir up suspicion on why he was sick, so I stayed there.

Currently the remainder of the party were in a huge debate on what potion was better: Veritaserum or Liquid Luck. Regulus was passionately on Veritaserum, but I knew that was only because he had severe trust issues because of his past. Dorcas was firmly on Liquid Luck, and the two of them alone were heating up the debate a significant amount.

Noting that Regulus seemed distracted, I decided to take a risk and left the party to go upstairs, knocking quietly before entering. Sirius was in his Animagus form and was curled up on Remus's bed as Remus breathed heavily, looking rather pale.

"Is he okay?" I asked, frozen in the doorway as I looked at Remus. He looked much worse than I had initially thought he was.

James nodded, sending me a tight smile. "Yeah, he's alright. This happens sometimes after the full moon. Some of the moon's effects stay with him, and he gets really bad waves of nausea or strong aches. It should wear off by morning though, so there's no need to worry."

I nodded even though I was very much worrying, taking a step inside the dorm. Sirius uncurled form his spot on Remus's bed and trotted up to me, letting out a whine before transforming into his human form.

"I think you should go downstairs-" Sirius started, but was suddenly interrupted.

"What the fuck?"

All five of us, Remus included, turned to the doorway where Regulus stood, mouth agape as he stared at Sirius. Something akin to horror was on his face, though there was a glimmer of awe in there as well, one he would never admit to.

"Regulus, hey," I said, my voice several pitches higher than usual. "What are you doing here? You know what it doesn't really matter, I think we should go I'm actually really tired."

"You're an Animagus," Regulus said, completely ignoring me. "And if you're an Animagus, I have no doubt that your friends are which means..."

Regulus trailed off, his gaze falling on a pale Remus sitting rigidly in his bed, staring at Regulus with fear in his eyes.

"You're the werewolf," Regulus breathed as he stared at Remus.

James moved forward, stepping protectively in front of Remus as he glowered at Regulus, opening his mouth to defend his friend when Regulus held out a hand to stop him.

"I don't care that he's a werewolf," he said. "It makes no difference to me and how I see him."

James looked surprised, before grudging respect replaced it as he stared at Regulus. Regulus only had eyes for Sirius though, no doubt having recognised the dog as Snuffles. Remus cleared his throat and got out of bed, leaning on Peter as he stared at the two brothers.

"I think we should give them some privacy," he said, walking towards the exit.

Sirius's panicked voice followed him. "Are you sure you don't want to stay here Moony?"

"I'm sure," Remus said with a smile, gesturing for James and I to follow him and Peter out, which we did, closing the door behind us. We all sat in the Common Room anxiously, waiting to find out what happened between them. The party had ended, so the Common Room was deserted except for us, which I was grateful for because I was in full panic mode, pacing back and forth.

What if their conversation didn't go well? What if one of them felt threatened and threw an insult to protect themselves when the other was vulnerable, shattering whatever small trust they'd managed to make? What if leaving them alone was a horrible idea and they end up hating each other for the rest of eternity?

"Y/n, calm down," James said.

I shot him a dirty look and continued pacing, my anxiety increasing with every passing second. James sighed and stood up, grabbing me by the shoulders to stop my pacing and slowly guiding me to the couch to sit down. I didn't fight him, too nervous, and let him wrap an arm around me and rub my own arm comfortingly.

"It'll be fine," he assured me. "They love each other. What could go wrong?"

I bit back the reply that a lot could go wrong, instead just nodding along as I waited for them to exit the dorm. They didn't do that for a good 20 minutes, all that time I spent trying not to freak out. When they did eventually leave the room and come downstairs, they were in a rapid conversation with one another, both of them relaxed around each other.

James and I shared a look and we both smiled.

. . .

Saturday 22nd May, 1977

The next day was a big one, and I entered the Great Hall decked in silver, crimson, green, and gold, a mix of both teams. This way I'd be able to support both teams and I was guaranteed to be supporting the winning team.

I'd already had breakfast earlier in the kitchen to avoid conflict and spent the morning fluttering back and forth between the two tables, encouraging both houses to do their best. When it was time to head to the Quidditch Pitch Regulus grabbed onto my arm before I could leave and reeled me in, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"How about a kiss for good luck?" he asked with a sly grin.

I grinned back and leaned in, pecking him on the lips. Regulus seemed outraged that he didn't get a proper kiss and I couldn't stifle the quick laughter that escaped my mouth.

"You'll get the rest when you win the game," I promised him.

Regulus's eyes shone with excitement. "Well, that's just even more incentive to beat Gryffindor, isn't it?"

I grinned and hugged him before untangling myself and making my way to the Quidditch Pitch. I got front row seats next to Dorcas and Pandora, all three of us cheering when each team entered the pitch.

"And we have the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain, James Potter, shaking hands with the Slytherin Quidditch Captain, Cassius Flint, a real bastard of a student," Remus commentated.

"Mr Lupin!" McGonagall scolded.

"Sorry Professor, won't happen again," Remus said hastily.

We watched in tense silence as the captains finished shaking hands and went back to their brooms, waiting for the signal to start the game.

"And the game has begun," Remus stated when all 14 of the players left the ground and started flying through the air. "Gryffindor in possession of the Quaffle as Mary MacDonald doges Montague with an ease that only an actually good quidditch player could do."

I watched as the game continued, Gryffindor leading by 30 points to 0. I cheered when I needed to but never booed, since I was supporting both teams. It was an important game, one I should have been paying attention to, yet my gaze kept being drawn to Regulus as he flew around the pitch, eyes scanning for the snitch. He looked so beautiful, and my heart yearned for him.

"And with that, James Potter scored another ten points for Gryffindor! This really the best Slytherin can do? Can't say I'm surprised," Remus commentated, muttering a rushed apology afterwards no doubt forced out of him by McGonagall.

My attention was brought back to the game as Flint knocked into James, nearly pushing him off his broom altogether. There were outraged cried from the Gryffindor spectators, many filthy curses spat Slytherin's way. The Slytherin spectators were just has bad though, returning Gryffindors anger with every piece of viciousness they had.

The game continued on, with Slytherin catching up but Gryffindor still in the lead. At one point a Bludger was heading straight for James's head, but Marlene managed to get there at the last moment and hit it back with incredible strength, causing Evan who had been in possession of the quaffle, duck to avoid getting hit and giving Mary the perfect opening to steal it.

The game continued on with Slytherin and Gryffindor nearly neck and neck, yet Gryffindor always stayed at least 10 points ahead, much to Slytherin's frustration. My eyes kept finding Regulus, to no ones surprise, though I was certainly surprised when he flew over to where I was in the stands.

"Hey," he greeted casually.

I stared at him. "Um...hi? Aren't you like, in a game right now? Why are you talking to me?"

Regulus flashed me a smile. "What? I can't talk to my girlfriend?"

"I mean you can, but since you're playing in the grand final against Gryffindor and your position in the game is crucial, why would you?"

Regulus flew a bit closer, giving me a smile meant for my eyes only. "Because I need some extra luck finding this stupid snitch."

I grinned at him, ignoring the stares and whispers from those nearby and leaned forward to press a kiss on his lips. It wasn't as chaste as the one before the game, but I also didn't let it go on for too long because he did have a job to do.

"And Potter is now in possession of the quaffle as Rosier got distracted by something happening in the stands. Actually, a lot of the Slytherin team seems distracted by the stands. But why- oh. Oh. I see. Um, the Slytherin Seeker, Regulus Black, has flown to the stands and is - oh Merlin are you serious? - And is making out with his girlfriend, Y/n Potter."

I pulled back immediately when I heard that, just in time to see James's head snap to my direction and throw the quaffle distractedly, missing the hoops completely.

I stifled a laugh, focusing back on Regulus. "Was that your plan all along? To get James distracted?"

Regulus shrugged, smirking at me. "Partly."

I rolled my eyes, lightly shoving him away. "You'd better go now, before you get in trouble."

"Aye aye, Captain."

I grinned as Regulus flew away, feeling my cheeks warm, and then a pain in my side as Dorcas elbowed me.

"You didn't tell me he was so romantic," she said. "If I wasn't gay I'd definitely be swooning right now. Actually I think I might be even though I'm gay."

I laughed at her, and at Pandora when she joined in with the teasing, but eventually we focused back on the game, only to find that the good luck kiss actually worked.

"And what's this? The Slytherin Seeker seems to have found something as he dives straight down, the Gryffindor Seeker flying close behind."

I watched on the edge of my seat as Regulus flew downwards, arm outstretched as he flew. I could see the snitch, a mere speck of gold heading straight for the ground at an alarming rate. Regulus was following it just as fast.

"Black seems to be determined to get this snitch, going very fast for someone whose flying face first into the ground," Remus commentated, also noticing how fast Regulus was going. "Actually, this is getting a bit concerning."

He was right about that. I watched as Regulus rapidly got rid of the distance between him and the floor, the snitch an inch too far from him. He was 30 metres away, 20, 15, 10.

"Regulus stop!" Remus yelled as the Gryffindor Seeker pulled away.

Regulus either didn't hear or didn't listen, going faster as the ground reached him. Finally, at the last moment, he jumped off his broom, his fist curling as he tumbled to the floor. I gasped along with the rest of the crowd, anxiously waiting to see if Regulus was okay or not.

I let out a breathless laugh as Regulus stood up and threw his fist in the air, the snitch glinting behind his fingers. I cheered as loudly as I could, along with the rest of the Slytherins plus Dorcas. Regulus looked through the crowd until he found me, his smile softening as he stared at me.

I felt my heart soar and before I knew it I was running through the stands and down the stairs so I could reach him. When I finally made it onto the pitch I could see him waiting for me, smile wide and eyes shining as he stared at me as I ran through the pitch to get to him.

As soon I was close enough I launched myself at him, wrapping my arms and legs around him in a bear hug. Regulus let out a laugh and hugged my back, kissing the side of my head. I pulled back, planting my feet on the floor, and grinned at him, feeling proud.

"Congratulations," I breathed. "You did amazing."

Regulus looked down, a light blush dusting his cheeks and I laughed in disbelief. Regulus barely ever blushed, usually being the one to make me flustered. I smiled and lifted his face so he could look at me. He smiled back, but then all of a sudden it became a smirk as he stared at me.

"Remember what you said this morning?" he asked. "About how I'd get the rest when I won the game?"

I laughed but nonetheless leaned in, pressing my lips against his. Even after all this time of dating, I felt fireworks go off when our lips touched, the chemistry between us as strong as ever. I melted into the kiss, my tongue brushing against his lips as one of his hands went around my waist and the other in my hair. He tilted my head upwards to get better access, his tongue doing wonders in my mouth, and I let him eagerly.

"Woah, woah, that is enough."

Regulus and I pulled away at the sound of James's voice, and we found him staring at us unhappily, arms crossed, though I saw a sliver of fondness in his gaze.

"I know I said I was okay with you dating, but that doesn't mean I want to see you devour my sister's mouth," James said, grimacing at his words.

I rolled my eyes but grinned at him, moving away from Regulus to give him a hug. "You did great."

James sighed. "I know."

I snorted. "Very humble."

James grinned at me, but I was shortly taken away by Avery, Barty, and Evan who were all waiting for my praises. I gave them happily, because in all seriousness I was really proud of all of them.

Barty slung an arm around my shoulder as we started making our way out of the quidditch pitch. "Time to get drunk!"

I groaned. "Oh no."
