Island 3 : Celeste Before The Morgen

As she was inside the portal, she remembered the wise words of Yaksha again.

"Weapons do not cleave the soul, fire does not burn it, waters do not wet it, and wind does not dry it. As a man casts off worn-out garments and puts on others that are new,
so does the soul cast off its worn-out bodies and enter into others that are new. The soul is never born, it never dies having come into being once, it never ceases to be." The leader had said in her native language explaining her that whatever happens, she'd always be there so, there was nothing to fear.

But when she came back to the place, it wasn't the same anymore. Perhaps, she was too late.

Legend says that the Atlantis city was built by Poseidon- the God of Sea, of storms and earthquakes- when he fell in love with a mortal woman Cleito. He made this city on top of a hill, on an isolated island in the sea, to protect her and named it Atlantis.

According to the story, Poseidon walked through the world to find the biggest island until he reached the biggest of them all, Atlantis and found it inhabited by people who were more beautiful and intelligent than the rest of the world. There he met and fell in love with a woman called Cleito.

The new home built by Poseidon for his love in the City of Atlantis was surrounded by rings of water and land. The five rounds of water were connected to the ground with the help of five tunnels, where a vast canal connected the outer rings of water to the ocean.

The tunnels could accommodate ships, and every route to the city was guarded by gates and towers. Moreover, the wall surrounding the rings was built using red, white and black rock and decorated with precious metals.

Meanwhile, there was another hill called the 'Hill of Cleito' where, it is believed, Poseidon captivated his wife because he distrusted her loyalty. Huge moats and pillars surrounded this hill.

This was what she had heard from the history professor. It was the same as she had witnessed (before her departure) when she was asked to save them. But now, it was just ruins. She couldn't even try saving them. Where were the citizens? What had happened? She could roughly guess. But, she had no time, as she saw a Morgen swimming towards her. She tried escaping but it was futile as there was now, no land, just water. And, it was impossible to beat them inside their own territory.

After her failed attempt to fight back she was taken by the morgen. After reaching their base, she heard them talk. She could understand the language for some strange reason. They had discovered that she had the potential for great magic and thus, were going to try to find ways to absorb all of her powers to empower them and grant them the ability to rule the seven seas!

What was she supposed to do now? She was locked up inside a cell but, was fed well. This continued for some time. The Morgen who brought her food was named Saoirse. She wasn't as evil as the others. Somedays she'd sit and try talking to Celeste about her world. Other times, she'd share her stories.

One day, she came there looking glum and said that the only person who can purify their hearts and turn them back into mermaids, was Celeste herself. She begged her to save them. She didn't want to turn evil. Celeste wanted to help her and thus remembered what the Yaksha had given her.

She used the device and hoped it'd take her to a sorcerer who'd train her and teach her a spell to turn the Morgen back into mermaids. The device flashed and vanished along with her and before her stood an old lady with classic broom.

"I know what brought you here but, I don't know what would you gain from helping them." The lady said.

"I just want to do what I can." Celeste said remembering the Yaksha and Saoirse.

"Very well." Saying this, the sorcerer started teaching her as they had very brief time together. She gave her a stone shaped dagger and asked her to stab the head Morgen.

Suddenly, a light flashed and Celeste was back in her cell. She had no idea how much time had passed here but, the head Morgen was ready to experiment on her and thus, had called for her. She looked in her hand. A stone dagger was there which nobody else could see.

As she made her way towards the head, her heart was full of anxiety. It was hard to control. But she had to overcome it.

"Never did I think a human could be of so much use. Let's see what you can do Human..." Saying this, the Morgen's skin lost all it's glow and below it was a vile looking creature, complete devoid of other colours except green.

Thinking, she'd get no second chance, Celeste charged forward and the dagger became visible. Initially, he avoided the attacks. Then, he made a mistake he shouldn't have. He lifted his arms and positioned the staff behind his head. Similar to the stabbing movement, all this move did was, open him up to an attack from her. He must've thought this move will allow him to launch a very powerful blow, but in reality, it only opened him up to her and made it very easy for her to strike. Celeste smirked. He attacked, she blocked the move with her dagger. And stroke the dagger through his heart. With one thought, that it'd be over.

And it was over. The black magic inside his heart came out like mud balls and evaporated. Their tails were back with normal scales. Before the Morgen could say anything, her eyes closed. She was finally in peace.
