What Had Happened
Martyn's Perspective-
Martyn sighed and sat on the curb, holding the flowers and feeling a bit hopeless.
"You okay?"
Martyn looked up as he heard the familiar voice, and he felt his heart stop as he made eye contact with them.
"What do you want?" Martyn asked, his tone a bit rude.
"Jeez, sorry." Ren rolled his eyes and sat down next to him.
Martyn scooted away a couple inches and Ren chuckled.
"Still bitter, huh?" He asked and Martyn glared at him.
"Yeah, almost like you broke my heart and won't stop bugging me."
"I'm trying to apologize, you know."
"Wow, great apology." Martyn said sarcastically and Ren huffed.
"Look, Sadie said that I need to fix whatever is going on between us for the play, so I'm sorry for everything I did."
"Oh so you're just out here to try and make sure our play goes well?" Martyn snapped.
"Will you not just accept that I'm owning up for whatever I did?"
"You don't even know what you did?!"
"Not like you ever told me how you felt anyways..."
"Rich coming from you." Martyn scoffed.
"Cod I don't know what I ever saw in you." He muttered under his breath and Ren narrowed his eyes.
"I heard that." He said sharply and Martyn rolled his eyes.
"I don't care, you already left me in enough pain. Why are you trying to bug me when my date didn't show?" Martyn realized what he said and flushed red. "Friend- friend not date-!"
Ren raised an eyebrow.
"Your date didn't show?"
"He's not my date he's just my friend..." Martyn mumbled into his hands, hiding his red face.
Ren sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Look, Martyn, I...I didn't mean to come off so rudely." Ren glanced over at the blonde. "I don't want this tension to be between us."
"Then stop glaring at me! Stop- stop being such an a-hole to me!" Martyn shouted and Ren looked down.
"Okay, yeah maybe I have been childish with the way I'm handling you being in the show with me, but- I- I'm doing my- "
"Your best? You'd probably kiss a toad than smile at me." Martyn shot back and Ren sighed.
"No, I- ...I genuinely am sorry for the way I've been treating you." Ren said in a quiet voice and Martyn hesitated.
"I don't want to hurt you more than we've already hurt each other."
"Shift the blame onto me as always." Martyn sighed heavily.
Ren continued, frustrated but determined to get this over with.
"It's hard for me to look at you the same, but it'll get easier the more I talk to you." Ren sighed, realizing how confusing he just sounded. "I just...I guess I'm just not completely over our breakup. I'm not saying I still like you I'm just saying that...it was a lot, you know?"
Martyn mumbled something but nodded.
"I'm sorry your date didn't show, I really am." Ren stood up and dusted his pants off before glancing down at Martyn. "I'll see you during tech week, I guess."
Martyn looked up at him for the first time since Ren had said hi.
"I...thanks." Martyn whispered and Ren smiled weakly.
Martyn smiled back and Ren walked back to the gym. Martyn watched him for a minute before standing up.
He still felt a bit bitter about Mumbo but knew how to get back his good mood.
