Showtime!

Mumbo's Perspective-

Mumbo sat next to his friend Scar during lunch.

Scar was a senior and Mumbo had known him since freshman year. Scar had found him and said, quote, "You look like a lost little freshie."

And since then, Scar had hung out with Mumbo.

Right now, they were sitting in the senior court right outside the lunchroom. The only way younger classmen could eat there was if a senior invited them there, so Mumbo got his own spot at the table.

"Can you run the theatre page this year?" Scar begged, smiling.

"I don't know...I kinda wanna do a bigger one, you know? Show my skill." Mumbo said, taking out his sandwich.

"What?! Theatre is big! I'm there! I'm a senior so you have to listen to me." Scar teased and Mumbo chuckled.

"Alright fine, whatever." He rolls his eyes and Scar smiles.

"Great! You can call it Good Times During Showtime." Scar said, his eyes sparkling.

"You know the title has to be short, right?" Mumbo raised an eyebrow.

Scar hummed, "I guess just Showtime is fine."

Mumbo shrugs, continuing his lunch.

"You can come during tech week if you'd want. You guys never get any good photos of theatre and tech week is pretty fun. We're doing a play based off of Back To The Future."

"Are you gonna have the car?" Mumbo asked.

Scar huffed, "I wish, but the teacher said I can't drive my car on stage. We're just gonna have a hoverboard."

"Isn't that from the second movie?"

"Shhhhhhh..." Scar winked, and Mumbo laughed.

"So who are you playing? You gonna be Einstein?"

"I'm not being the dog!!" Scar laughed.

"Why not? You'd be great!" Mumbo giggled and Scar rolled his eyes.

He checked the time and got up, swinging his bag over his shoulder.

"Whatever dork, I gotta head to class. Make sure to do the theatre page though and make me the big picture!" Scar ruffled Mumbo's hair before leaving.

Mumbo chuckled and he shook his head, running a finger through his now tangled hair.

The bell rang and people started to walk out of the cafeteria and head towards their classes.

Mumbo walked to his class, a smile on his face. As he strolled into the journalism classroom, Mr. Raymond was walking out holding a clipboard with a list of names.

"Afternoon Mumbo." Mr. Raymond nods at Mumbo, who beams.

"Hey Mr. Ray! So have we figured out what pages I'm going to be doing exactly?"

"It's the first day, Mumbo!" Mr. Raymond chuckles and Mumbo flushed red in embarrassment.

"Ah- right, sorry, I'm just excited for this opportunity." He scratched the back of his neck.

Mr. Raymond smiles encouragingly, "Don't worry about it, just chillax. Just think about which pages you may wanna do and let me know. Editors get first pick."

Mumbo nods and sits down next to his friend.

Pix looks up and pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

"Hey Pixie." Mumbo smirks and Pix rolls his eyes.

"Hey yourself."

Mumbo chuckles.

"How was your summer?"

"It was alright." Pix shrugs, "I didn't do much. What about you?"

"Pretty much the same."

"So which sport do you think you're gonna cover?"

"I don't know...I may do the hockey team since I've never done that before."

"Cool!"

"What about you?"

"I'm gonna cover the engineering page and Mr. Ray said I could help out one of the new journalism kids with a sports page. I think he said he might send me out to do tennis."

"Good luck."

Pix chuckles, "Thanks, I'm gonna need it."

Kids filed in and sat down. Some looked nervous, others were chatting with a friend, and some just had their headphones on and minded their own business.

Mr. Raymond walked in after the bell rang and clapped his hands.

"Alright, welcome to journalism! I want to start by introducing myself. My name is Mr. Raymond, but a lot of people call me Mr. Ray; either is fine." Mr. Raymond continued on his little speech before passing out a paper where kids would write down a bit about themselves.

"Editors, come up here for a sec." He said as he sat down at his desk.

Mumbo stood up and walked over, four other people joining him.

Mr. Raymond propped his feet up on his desk and was fiddling with a yardstick.

"I want you all to start thinking about what pages you wanna cover and a design for the yearbook. Don't make it too hard, we got some beginners in here. I also may have you guys help teach some of them. I'm already letting a couple journalism threes know that they're gonna have a shadow following them, but I want you guys to know you may be helping some too."

They all nod and Mr. Raymond smiles.

"That's it for today really. Just kick around some ideas and be prepared to start soon."

He has them sit down before standing up and speaking to the class.
