Memories Held in Photos
Thanks so much for 760!! NOW TIME TO MOVE THE GOAL POST
Mumbo's Perspective-
Mumbo sighed as he placed the box down on his table. He opened the empty scrapbook and slowly lifted the lid of the box off.
Some pictures flew out, having been packed in tightly for so long.
Mumbo gasped and quickly grabbed the pictures he had printed out so long ago. He stopped them from hitting the ground and put them down on the table.
The pictures he had printed out back in high school laid motionless, yet they held so many memories.
A couple of polaroid pictures were scattered about, mostly showing events from Mumbo's senior year. Mumbo smiled bitterly as he saw the polaroid, a sense of home coming back.
Mumbo's eyes landed on a picture that was one he printed out back in his junior year.
"You know," Mumbo mumbled to himself, "Despite Scar saying he preferred drawing over photography, this isn't that bad of a picture."
The blonde in the picture was wearing a suit and held a bouquet of flowers, standing outside a gym that reflected bright neon lights onto his back, as if enhancing his sadness.
Mumbo stared at the picture for a long time, remembering that night.
He smiled, his mind drifting back to junior year.
Back when he was one of the top editors in his yearbook class, despite him not even being a senior yet.
This was the year that he had met the boy who would change his perspective on life,
on people,
on him.
This was the year when he met Martyn Little-Wood.
And it all started back at the beginning of 11th grade.
Mumbo took out a picture of him standing outside his parent's home, a couple pimples on his face as he smiled at the camera on his first day of junior year.
He had no idea what his life would turn into.
-
"Mom, come on! I'm gonna be late!" Mumbo shouted as he grabbed the keys.
"Okay just a sec!! I wanna get a picture of you!"
Mumbo sighed and his mother had him pose in front of the tree in their yard.
She fixed the collar on his jacket before stepping back and taking out her phone.
"Mommmm." Mumbo groaned, sighing.
"The longer you whine, the longer it takes for us to get to school." She said sternly.
Mumbo rolled his eyes before looking up at the camera.
"Come on, smile." She teased, making a funny face.
Mumbo couldn't help but laugh and she took a picture.
"Perfect." She smiled before putting her phone away and walking over to their van.
"You ready?" She asked, glancing over as Mumbo buckled up in the passenger seat.
"Mhm." He nods.
"You have your lunch, your planner, notebooks, pencils?"
"Yes mom!" Mumbo chuckles, "I got everything I need. I double and triple checked."
"Alright good, because I'm not driving to work to get a call from you asking me to bring you your ID."
"That was only once!"
"One time too many." She laughed and Mumbo rolled his eyes, but he still smiled.
He looked out the window as she drove him to school and his eyes landed on the buildings he once left as a sophomore just three months ago.
"Have a good day, and remember, your father's picking you up after school." She said, kissing his forehead.
"Alright, thanks mom." He smiles and leaves the car, walking into school.
He took a deep breath.
"I can do this." He whispered before nodding.
