Club Rush
Martyn's Perspective-
Writing club, fencing, green club, art, scholar bowl, engineering, culture, and loads more!
There were many tables scattered about the campus, kids chatting and laughing, one kid even figured out how to spin a sign and advertise his girlfriend's club.
Martyn strolled by, mostly trying to find his friend Jimmy.
He passed by one table and saw the words "Run crew" on it.
"What's this?" He asked, confused.
One guy smiled, "We're helping out with props and such for the theatre class. Mostly just moving sets around and lights, that stuff."
"Huh..."
"Wanna join?"
Martyn looked at the sheet before shrugging.
"Why not?"
He signed up and felt someone wrap their arm around him.
He jumped and saw Jimmy, who chuckled.
"Since when do you do tech stuff?" Jimmy asked.
"Since now." Martyn stuck out his tongue and Jimmy rolled his eyes.
"Don't worry, you both can be idiots." Grian said, walking over and smirking.
"Yeah, you're one to talk." Martyn snorted and Grian laughed.
-
A couple days later, Martyn talked Jimmy into joining him at the run crew club.
It was fine, slow but fine, and the teacher seemed nice.
The kids who actually took theatre as a class were practicing on stage while the more experienced run crew members helped teach the newbies.
Martyn was being shown how to work the curtain and what cues to listen to on the radio he would be given.
"Marty? Ugh, who plays Marty?" Sadie flipped through the script and Martyn poked his head out, thinking they wanted him.
"Yes, there you are. Try and pay attention next time, will you? You need to learn when to walk on stage." Sadie said, pointing at him.
"Wha- wait- "
Martyn was shoved on, and he looked at the boy across from him, who was in character playing the doctor.
"Marty, my boy, this car can take us anywhere in time!!! Have you ever wanted to see the dinosaurs?"
"U-uh no?" Martyn stuttered, not knowing the lines.
"Ever wanted to go into the future?"
"I- I mean a hoverboard would be really cool." Martyn said, trying to act out the character, "It seems really fun, I could fly around anywhere!" Martyn smiled, confident in his improv skills.
The scene continued, Martyn just acting along with the boy who played the doctor.
At the end of the scene, the teacher walked back from helping out with costumes. His eyes landed on Martyn, and he raised an eyebrow.
"Why are you on stage?" The teacher asked.
"I- uh- "
"Doesn't he play Marty?" Sadie asked.
"No, Alex does." The teacher glanced backstage and saw one of the guys on his phone, chuckling with his friends.
The teacher huffed, "You," He snapped at Martyn, "What's your name?"
"I- er- Martyn."
"Congrats, you're playing Marty for the play." The teacher took the kid's script and handed it to Martyn's shocked and shaking hands.
