Hinata Mayumi smiled brightly at her phone camera as she took a selfie with her strawberry milkshake in front of the Storybook Run Through building.

After taking the photo, she lowered her hand to get a better look at the image. After pulling up the photo, she couldn't help but smile at how cute the picture was - she'd definitely have to post it somewhere later.

"Someone certainly loves to stare at themselves," a voice said.

Mayumi scowled and looked over to that direction.

Oikawa walked over haughtily and smirked as he placed a single hand onto his hip.

"At least you're cute, Mayu-chan. That way someone other than you will stare at your face."
"At least I'm not a real bitch like you," Mayu shot back, annoyed.
"You wound me, Mayu-chan! Are you going to be able to put up with me for the next hour?"

Mayumi practically growled at Oikawa and was seemingly about to lunge at him when a tall figure suddenly came into view.

"It appears you are bothering my princess once again, Oikawa."

Ushijima walked in and placed his (large) arm around Mayumi's shoulder.

"Hi Ushi!" Mayumi beamed, looking at her love interest happily. "How are you?"
"I'm fine. And you?"
"I'm good now that you're here," Mayumi said.
"Oh and Oikawa, how are you?" Oikawa suddenly interrupted, his voice pitched up. "I'm fantastic, thank you SO much for asking!" he finished, his voice normal once again.

Mayumi and Ushijima just stared at the boy who was busy putting on his one-man performance of 'How are you, Oikawa?'.

"Well, no one was going to ask me how I was, so I had to do it myself," Oikawa huffed as he crossed his arms.

Ushijima blinked once and then began to ask, "how are yo-"
"IT'S TOO LATE NOW!"

"Welcome to the run through of I'll Like You."

Mayumi sat a little bit taller in her seat, smiling proudly.

Ushijima, sitting to her right, glanced over at her with his usual stoic expression and then returned his focus to the elder.

Oikawa sat to the side, unable to take his eyes off of the red-haired girl as she sat next to her designated soulmate.

As much as it hurt him to admit it, Ushijima and Mayumi really did look good together. Everything about them seemed to be compatible from their personalities all the way to their heights.

...so what was he?

All he seemed to have was to be this boisterous, narcissistic villain role who wouldn't even have a happily ever after. Mayumi and Ushijima would always have each other... but he would lose her. Much sooner than he had realized.

"The beginning of the story starts with Mayumi and her magical book. Whatever she writes in the book is able to come to life. Her best friend whose she had feelings for ever since they were kids, Ushijima, tags alongside her as they visit several villages, doing their best to grant their wishes."

Mayumi extends her hand to Ushijima, who takes it silently without a second glance towards her - almost as if it was an obligation of his.

Mayu's bright smile falters for just a moment, but she's quickly able to recover.

"Then one day, she and Ushijima visit a village that already had their wishes granted - but in a more twisted way. The villagers explain that they were visited by another sorcerer who carried a magic book, similar to Mayumi's. However, the way that the villagers explain this sorcerer seems rather corrupted and all of them have the same dazed expression as they speak to him."

At this, Mayu hesitantly looks over at Oikawa, who seems to be slumped over in his seat. His confident expression has been completely vanished as he simply sat there and listened to what the elder was saying.

"Suddenly as one of the villagers are talking to Mayu, bells are surrounded throughout the town and cheering echoes through. Oikawa walks in and the villagers cheer for him; some even go as far as to bow down to him. He notices Mayu and saunters over. He flips through Mayumi's magic book, laughing at the writing and how 'pitiful' it is. Ushijima steps in to protect her and Oikawa challenges him to a duel."

The tension in the room suddenly increases as Oikawa and Ushijima look over at each other. Mayumi lets her hand fall from Ushijima's hold as she swallows nervously before turning her attention back to the elders.

"Worried about Ushijima, Mayumi pulls him to the side and writes for him to return to her safe and unharmed. Ushijima touched by her gesture confesses his feelings towards her and is overjoyed when he finds out Mayumi reciprocates his feelings. Now prepared to face Oikawa, Ushijima walks into the duel determined. Oikawa explains his terms: if he wins, the village remains under his spell and he's taking Mayumi with him. Should Ushijima win, Oikawa will give up his own book to Mayumi."

Then for the first time in her life, Mayu felt guilt towards Oikawa. She looked over at the boy who had a sad expression on his face and felt her heart clench within her chest. Oikawa truly wasn't all that bad; he was just extremely annoying. But he was also the person who would always look for her, who would come say hi to her, and who was always there.

"Oikawa loses the duel."

The girl suddenly felt sick to her stomach. And that's she suddenly felt someone staring at her. Peeking up, she noticed Oikawa, who was looking at her with concern while Ushijima just continued to look forwards.

Even when it was his current downfall... he was more worried about her.

"Mayumi receives Oikawa's book, as promised, and the spell breaks. Oikawa apologizes as he admits he only did it out of jealousy. He had heard of Mayumi's legend and wanted that same attention, but he was only able to gain control over this village. Oikawa flees into the forest never to be seen from again as Mayumi hands Ushijima Oikawa's own book. The two of them share a kiss as they promise to grant wishes for anyone who deserves it and to use their powers responsibly. Together. And they lived happily ever after."

With a satisfied thud of the book closing, the elder smiled at the small cast.

"You are dismissed."

As soon as they walked out of the building, Ushijima turned to face them,"Goodbye Mayumi and Oikawa."

Ushijima reached for Mayumi's hand and bought it up to his lips to gently laid a kiss on the back of it... except this time, Mayumi's heart didn't flutter.

"Goodbye Ushi," Mayumi said through a forced smile.

As the tall boy walked off, Oikawa turned to face Mayumi.

"Are you okay?" Oikawa asked softly. "You looked really upset during the storybook run through."

Hesitantly, Oikawa bought his hand up to rest against Mayumi's cheek.

"I was worried about you," he whispered.

Mayumi looked up at him, as she revelled in the comfort of his touch. His eyes were full of warmth and concern for her and only for her.

"I'm okay," Mayumi whispered, unable to look away from him.

And she was speaking truthfully; after all, she was finally able to see him.

Hi friends!!

Sorry for the late update, I had a big exam yesterday and by the time I finished writing the chapter, it was 10 pm my time.

Another piece of important news is that I will not be publishing on Tuesday next week like usual, but on Thursday as I have two midterms back to back and one of them is in desperate need of studying.

Now that that's out of the way... Mayu and Oiks!!!

She finally sees him and his true intentions after all this time and I think it's so cute!!! What do we think is going to happen? 👀
