as she usually woke up from sex, she was confused and hazy.

any places with dried-up cum had been wiped away, and a t-shirt was covering her body. she was a clean slate once again.

squirming around in bed, strong arms wrapped loosely around her waist. before long, she turned to look at karla— whose face was buried in her chest.

gwendolyn hummed in contentment while she looked at karla's sleeping appearance. her eyelashes were perfectly curled, face with zero blemishes except for a medium mole to the side of her cheek.

she'd heard that wherever your moles were placed, that was where your lover from a past life had kissed you. gwendolyn had loved little things like that and smiled to herself.

i must've kissed her a lot right there. she thought and set another kiss right onto the mole.

gwendolyn continued to press kisses all over karla's face. karla silently beamed under the touch as she slept, the tips of her ears turning red.

"c'mon... i know you're awake." gwen hummed into karla's ear softy, close enough that karla could pick up the subtle sleepiness still in her voice.

"just... five more mintues." karla whined, her voice raspy due to strain. gwen felt her face warm into a bright blush— hearing karla's voice so rough in the morning felt... intimate.

"sunshine..." she spoke once again, making karla shift until her face was now upward, begging for a kiss. gwendolyn giggled, and softly kissed her lips.

"fine, fine. i'll get up. but stay right here."

karla stumbled out of the bed and headed over to the dresser, rummaging in her bag for something.

a couple of minutes ticked by with words mumbled under karla's breath. finally, she found the object as she felt a velvet box rub against her fingers.

"here." karla said, handing a box to gwen and rubbing the back of her neck.

"oh!" exclaimed gwen, gently taking the box. "what is it?"

"open it," muttered karla.

once gwen opened it, she was greeted by two silver rings, a flower engraved in the middle with a shining gem in the center. instead of the body of the ring is solid, stems intertwined with one another.

gwendolyn's jaw dropped open. "ohmygosh, wow! it's so so pretty!" she paused. "is this a..."

"a wedding ring? no, this one is too plain for my taste. i wouldn't dare to propose in bed." karla fiddled with her hands. "i wanted to give you something, and i know how much you like flowers and—"

the mafia boss was cut off by a peck on her cheek from the freckled beauty. "i really, really love it. you didn't have to do any of this. you're the sweetest person i've ever met."

"i love you, karla. i really do."

at that, the two of them stared at each other. their lips curled into smiles, eyes filled with adoration.

the silence moment was put to rest as the high-pitched ringing of karla's phone started.

"ugh." again, she topped out of bed to answer her phone. "hello? ezra, what the hell do want?"

"from hearing ezra's name, gwendolyn grinned. "put the phone on speaker, i wanna talk to him!"

ezra's laughter emitted from the phone. "hey, gwen! i should've known you two were together."

"ezra, what the hell do you want?" karla repeated.

"okay, okay," he said. "can you guys please come to the after party? everybody's asking where you guys are."

"after-parties are usally... after the party. not the next day at... three-thirty in the afternoon." karla hissed.

"eh, whatever. the party never stops anyways," cheered ezra. " besides, you just left without telling anyone. you have to go!"

karla shifted her gaze to gwendolyn. "would you like to go, fleur? i know parties aren't really your thing."

maybe the party won't be as bad as last night. i could still be around karla everything.

"can we go? it's not business stuff, so we can still be around eachother, right?"

"of course, we can, love." karla answered. "we'll be going ezra, what's the location?"

"i'll send it to you now. on se voit là-bas!"
(see you there!)

the call ended with a click, and gwendolyn jumped out of bed.

"i gotta get ready, karla! what color dress do you think i should wear? how should i do my hair? do you think i can do my makeup?"

"whatever you do, you'll always look good," complimented karla.

loud, unintelligible music pounded in gwendolyn's ears as they stepped into the club. from the way people were partying, no one could guess that it was only four-thirty in the afternoon.

it was blisteringly hot inside, making gwendolyn thank herself that she decided to wear a short-sleeved dress. karla slid her hand around her waist. "i don't like any of these people. i knew this was a mistake."

"maybe it isn't so bad!" gwendolyn insisted. "you can't judge everything by—"

and right as she said that a mountain of sweaty bodies almost toppled them over, the scent of alcohol and weed under their breath. even under the dim lights, all their eyes were tinted red. right as they tried to leave the room, somehow they tripped on each other's shoes.

"baby, i love you, but no." laughed karla.

"gwennie!" squealed a familiar voice.

gwendolyn turned her head eagerly. "maddie!"

the friends immediately hugged each other, the sweat on their sticking them together.

"where'd you go last night? cj left before me, and i was trying to look for you!"

"uh, well, i got caught up in some stuff, that's all."

madeline's eyes trailed down to the arm around gwen's waist. "oooh, i see. it's allll good. i know what you've been doing." she looked back at karla. "can i hang out with her, just for a couple mintues?"

"no," karla frowned.

"come on, pleaseee? live a little! what's the point of coming to a party without being with friends?"

"no."

"please?"

"no."

"plea—"

karla rolled her eyes. "fine. just no drugs. including alcohol."

"i thought you were her girlfriend, not her mom." madeline sneered.

she then grabbed gwendolyn's hand away from karla, then speed-walked farther into the club until she found a couch where they could relax.

"sooo," she suddenly had a glass cup with brown liquid in her hands. "i know you had a good night yesterday."

gwendolyn covered her face. "i thought we wouldn't have to talk about that!"

"you're literally glowing, how could i just ignore it?"

gwen attempted to change the subject. "how about you and cj? you were love-struck about him last night!"

"don't say his name too loud, he might be around!" madeline scooted closer. "but he's amazing. he's super nice and sweet, he was basically compliementing with me all night!"

"so you're going to talk with him after tonight?"

"of course i am! it would be so dumb of me not to!" she took a sip of her drink. "it's like the universe is actually listening to me for once."

gwendolyn smiled. "i think you should go for it, he might be the one you were looking for after all."

"with how my luck is, he probably might be."

before gwen could get another word in, madeline tapped her shoulder. "don't look behind you, but scarlett is walking up behind you."

"oh, really?" she awkwardly laughed.

i owe her an explanation after all. i did leave her completely last night with no explanation.

the tall red-head grinned as soon as she saw gwendolyn. "hey, gwen. you look great."

"thank you, scar! and listen, i'm really sorry about last night. things just got a little... uh... crazy."

"it's all good." scarlett's eyes trailed down to her finger, the one with the ring. "congulations on your engagement too. your ring looks pretty."

madeline grasped gwen's hand, jaw completely dropped. "girl what? you got ENGAGED?" she shook her head. "damn, i know white people move fast, but not that fast."

"what, no! it was just a gift she gave me, that's all!" fretted gwendolyn.

"okay, good." madeline responded. "i was about to say, that cannot be the ring she's proposing to you with, that's way too plain."

even though scarlett didn't say anything, gwendolyn swore she saw a look of relief on her face.

"enough with all this girl talk, i wanna get out there and dance," stated madeline.

"wait, hold on— i can't dance like that!"

"girl it's fine. everyone's so drunk that they won't even notice you have no rhythm!

yet as madeline pulled her onto the central dance floor, gwendolyn couldn't help but feel uneasy on the inside.

her head was pounding.

it was a terrible, terrible idea to come to this party.

her toes felt pinched in between her heels, and she (for the life of her) could not find any place to sit down on.

worst of all, karla wasn't even in sight.

even though the darkness, she could make out madeline "grinding" onto cj crotch, and she couldn't tell if he was enjoying it or laughing at her.

and of course, scarlett was glued to her hip. it was nice to have some company, but she much rather preferred being around karla, rather than scarlett— who at this point was shouting loud nonsense over the music.

"i told myself i wasn't doing to drink, but i think i will!" she shouted. "you want me to get you one?"

"no, i'm fine," gwen tiredly said. "do you see karla anywhere?"

even though she didn't try and look, scarlett shook her head. "i haven't seen her in a while. maybe she left?"

gwen's eyebrow furrowed. "she wouldn't do that. i think i'll just look for her myself."

scarlett sighed and pulled her phone from her pocket. before gwen turned her head around, scarlett muttered something under her breath.

right after she said that, rapid gunfire echoed throughout the building.

"POLICE! NO ONE MOVE, ALL HANDS UP!"

what the...

endless gunshots rang throughout the building, and within a matter of seconds, drunk bodies were splattered against the ground in agony.

scarlett dropped the phone on her side, and enclosed her arm around gwen's waist. "we've got to get out of here. now."

"w-what? no!" gwendolyn tried to squeeze out the tight grip. "i'm not leaving with you!"

even as she vocalized her strong dislike, it seemed like the grip around her waist got tighter. "we'll be leaving this place together, whether you like it or not. that asshole shouldn't have left you out on display so easily for me to take."

she's literally not letting me go. what is up with her?

it was even harder to see karla through the terrifying amiss, and it wasn't any better than scarlett kept on shooting her gun.

and missed every single hit towards the police.

gwendolyn slid her foot into her heel and looked down at scarlett's foot.

she slammed her high-heeled foot right down onto scarlett's.

hard.

"augh! what the actual fuck gwendolyn? i'm trying to keep you—"

"no the fuck you're not."

karla's velvet voice was music to her ears, and if they weren't in the middle of a literal shooting range, she would've jumped into her arms.

"karla! i... i was looking everywhere for you and—"

"so was i. i'm going to get us the fuck out of here." karla tucked gwen close to her chest and glared daggers at scarlett. "you. count your fucking days."

"ms. valetin—"

"shut the fuck up and shoot them!"

within new minutes, karla had shot at least ten people, and each of them toppled down on the ground with a groan.

another police officer pointed their gun at her. "karla valetin! put your hands up and release the girl!"

"you think i'd listen to your old ass?"

karla dashed into the back room of the club with gwendolyn in her arms. she ran to the nearest window, then shattered the glass wide open.

"i should've known they would show up like this. come, ma chère. through the window." mumbled karla. "take my gun. you'll know when to use it."
(my dear)

"w-what do you mean by that?" gwen fretted.

"trust me, love," soothed karla.

unwillingly, gwendolyn pulled herself out the window.

what is she doing?

but it seemed right as she asked herself that question, the door slammed open.

the gruff rumble of a man's voice made gwendolyn shiver. "valetin, i'll tell you one last time. put. your. hands. up."

the reload of the gun beaten against gwen's ears.

"you police just don't listen." karla humorlessly laughed. "no, asshole."

"enjoy the extra hole in your leg then."

BOOM!

"well, shit." karla winced, leaning down and holding her leg.

the police officer grinned. "finally. you're completely down on the ground and quiet." his handcuffs slipped around karla's wrists. "it's amazing how the big and bad mafia gets stopped by a bullet in her leg. what kind of wimp are you?"

karla laughed. "you're talking all this shit, but i still have a bigger dick than you."

"har har. so funny," he deadpanned. "should i shoot you again?"

gwendolyn raised her head to look through the broken window. a broad back, stained with blood stared back at her. he continued to tower cover karla, unknowing that another girl behind him and a gun.

"if that helps you sleep at night, sure."

she eased her finger on top of the trigger, the heavyweight of the gun burning in her hand.

just shoot it. she told herself. right at his back. he can't shoot karla again.

"you sure talk a lot for someone who just got shot." the police officer commented.

i can do it, i can do it, i can do it...

"hey big shot, turn around."

the moment his crazed eyes connected with gwendolyn, she pulled the trigger.

red liquid pooled across his shirt. he fumbled for his gun clumsily, yet karla slammed her un-injured leg right up to his nuts, giving her the time to grab his gun.

"fuck— shit— you little bit—"

"oh, shut up already."

BOOM! BOOM!

two more rounded dived into his chest.

yeah, he was done for.

karla calmly walked out of the room, as if she hadn't killed a man, and smiled. "that was perfect, right in the chest you got him! that's my girl."

gwen waved her hand. "forget about that! did you let him shoot you in the leg on purpose?"

"it was all part of plan! and it worked pretty well in my opinion."

the shorter girl wrapped karla's arm around her shoulders for support. "that was so... i was so scared for you! never— i mean— never!— do that again! you have to take care of yourself!"

"okay, love," karla hummed. "i won't do that again."

gwendolyn tore a chunk of her dress and wrapped it again in karla's leg. "how are we gonna get out of here now? i can't just break into someone's car or—"

"forget the ethics, baby." karla pointed out to the almost empty parking lot. "either the people have left or stole someone's car, so think we should go with the latter."

finally, after some unwillingness from gwendolyn, karla had broken into a car, claiming that breaking into a car was the "basics of mafia work."

once the car had turned on and the two were situated, gwendolyn bit her lip.

"what's happening now? where are we going to go?"

"i'll get us a place somewhere," assured karla. "i know ezra made it out there, so i'll contact him."

an awkward moment of silence followed after.

"gwendolyn, you know i love you, right?"

"of course i do!" gwen exclaimed. "and i still love you, even after today."

the two lovers shared their warmth in the stolen car and pulled off into the road to their next location.

but someone was still watching them.
