𓏲 ࣪₊♡𓂃 AT THE END OF THE DAY, Nathaniel led his wife out of the school building towards the parking lot. He'd offered her his hand to hold when he showed up outside of her classroom, but she shook her head, allowing him to look into her eyes and that was all he needed in order to know she wasn't too fond of him in that moment.

It hurt, it hurt like hell that he'd messed up, but he hoped she'd come around eventually, they loved each other. They walked alongside each other through the parking lot to their family, who were waiting for them. Lola was sat in the passenger seat of Emmett's Jeep, fiddling with something in her hands as the aforementioned man leaned against the passenger door, speaking with Jasper, who stood across from him, an open umbrella in his hand and Alice cuddled up against his side.

Edward stood nearby, but farther away, his eyes focused on the new girl across the lot. It was rather creepy and Nathan chuckled when Edward set his narrowed eyes on him, the boy having read his mind, "What are you looking at me like that for? It's stalker behaviour, Edward." Nathaniel told his brother humorously as he approached, letting out another short chuckle at his own words.

"I'm trying to figure her out... She's the odd one." Edward rolled his eyes, moving to stand closer to his best—friend. Rosalie was now standing with on the other side of Jasper, huddling underneath the singular umbrella, the others unbothered if they got wet from the rain. Jasper didn't care much for rain, but he knew his mate did, so he'd hold an umbrella for her, he'd do anything for his Alice.

"She's the odd one, you say? Aren't we vampires?" Nathan furrowed his brows, confused but amused at the same time and Edward scoffed, turning to look at Bella again, only now with wide eyes. A loud screeching of tires pulled the Cullens away from their conversations, their eyes setting on Tyler Crowley's black van swerving around the road and heading straight for Bella Swan.

Edward froze in spot, unsure of what to do until he felt a shove in his back, urging him to go and save his blood—singer, which was exactly what he did. The bronze—haired Cullen sped across the parking lot and kneeled down before Bella, pressing his hand against the side of the van which intended to crush the girl, his other hand beneath her.

"Well, shit." Emmett muttered quietly, letting out a breathless laugh and Lola smacked his arm, knowing it wasn't the time for joking despite the fact that she had to hold back a laugh, unable to take anything Edward does seriously.

"Did you fucking push him?" Rosalie stormed towards her husband, her eyes piercing through the side of his face in anger but he kept his eyes on Edward and Bella. Everyone around rushed over to Bella after Edward ran off to God knows where, and the Cullens all climbed into their vehicles, "We're going to the hospital to speak with Carlisle." Rosalie demanded to her husband, gesturing for him to get into her convertible as she climbed in herself.

At the hospital, Rosalie, Edward and Nathaniel all stood around in a group with the addition of Carlisle, who was attempting to mediate the feud between Rosalie and Edward, failing miserably whilst Nathan decided to stay quiet, not wanting to get himself involved in his wife's wrath another time.

"You've just endangered the entire family." Rosalie hissed towards Edward, who scrunched up his face, holding back from having an attitude toward the blonde in front of her mate who would most definitely fling him across the room for disrespecting her.

"What was I supposed to do, Rose? Let her get crushed by that van?" Edward rhetorically questioned and just as Rosalie opened her mouth to reply, an intoxicating smell entered all four of their senses, all of their eyes immediately snapping to the short brunette peeking around the corner from down the hall.

Bella shifted uncomfortably under the presence of the four Cullens, moving from one foot to the other as she practically cuddled the wall and she bit her lip anxiously before speaking, "Can I speak to you... Nathan?"

That surprised Nathaniel, he'd fully expected her to ask for Edward but he glanced at his family members and his wife. Edward shook his head, silently telling him not to tell Bella a word, Carlisle nodded, sure his brother of centuries would keep his family safe and Rosalie's expression was completely different, her eyes were narrowed, she was exasperated.

Carlisle ushered his adopted children away whilst Nathaniel strolled over to where Bella was still hugging the corner of the wall, and stuffed his hands in his leather jackets pockets, sending Bella a sympathetic smile.

"How are you, you know, after the accident?" He asked but Bella scrunched her brows, glancing down at her hands momentarily.

"Yeah... That's the thing, I shouldn't be fine, I should be dead." Bella told her newfound friend, well he was her friend in her mind and his full brows pinched, confusion setting in him, "Edward... He was across the lot, how did he get to me so fast?"

"What do you mean? Edward is a pretty fast runner, he used to do track at our old—" He was cut off, rather rudely actually but Bella was determined to receive answers, she felt she deserved them.

"No, he was inhumanely fast, Nathan. No human should move that fast." Bella wrapped her arms around her stomach, feeling her nerves bubbling up inside of her and Nathaniel let out a heavy sigh, shaking his head.

"I don't know what to tell you, Bella." Nathaniel admitted, shrugging and Bella scoffed, rolling her eyes out of slight annoyance.

"Are you kidding? Tell me how he stopped the van, he pushed it away with his hand! Unless he's secretly Spider—Man, you need to tell me." Bella ordered the older boy, who stared down at her, feeling irritated with her for the first time.

"You know, you're rather ungrateful. A thank you to my brother for saving your life would be nice." Nathan chuckled in disbelief, his hand reaching up to scratch the back of his head and Bella bit down on her bottom lip lightly again.

"Okay, tell him I said thank you..." Bella saw the look on his face, the look that told her that she missed something and she let out a huff before speaking again, "...please."

Nathan chuckled again, now out of amusement and he took a step backwards, beginning to make his exit, "I'm sure you'll speak with him again, Izzy." He smirked, spinning around but Bella furrowed her brows, not wanting the conversation to end there. She still wanted answers.

"Izzy?" Bella spoke up again, her voice louder to reach him even though he'd hear her even if she was whispering and he spun around, walking backwards. He smiled softly at her, nodding.

"Short for Isabella." He called out and she couldn't help but smile to herself, looking down at her hands. Anyone would possibly see that interaction as flirting, but in Bella's mind, her eyes were only set on Edward, she wanted him, he saved her life after all. She felt intrigued by him since the first moment she laid eyes on him in that cafeteria after Jessica and Angela explained who he was, who the Cullens were.

It was platonic, completely and utterly platonic and it made Bella's heart genuinely happy for what felt like the first time in forever, having finally found a friend who cares, a best—friend.

LATER THAT NIGHT, Nathaniel was focused on finding the cuff Victoria was threatening about, he searched in all of his drawers, behind his books, in all storage containers and even under his bed, but it was nowhere to be seen.

His family were downstairs in the living room, laughing and having fun whilst he was stuck in his and Rosalie's bedroom, searching for something that he had forgotten about, it was abandoned somewhere in the room, he just had no idea where.

Suddenly, a soft swish was heard by the doorway and there stood his beautiful wife in all her angelic glory, she cleared her throat, smiling at him softly, "You ever thought to look in your locked desk drawer?" Her unexpected words pulled his eyes to hers and he furrowed his brows, only growing her smile, "Edward told me." She entered the room, her voice much gentler than at school quite a few hours prior and she took a seat at the edge of the bed, watching his every move.

He quickly stood from the ground in front of his nightstand, making his way over to his dark—oak wooden desk. In his jeans pockets held a bunch of keys, one of them in particular being the one that fit in his locked desk drawer, he pulled the set of keys from his pocket, picking out the smallest one before pushing it into the tiny lock, twisting it until he heard a click.

The older vampire pulled open the drawer using the key as a handle, there were a few forgotten items inside, some that weren't as important as others, some that weren't as sentimental as others and some that were just utterly random.

It wasn't a very large drawer, and every one of his belongings inside of it he couldn't even remember placing in there in the first place. But, after a second of searching, he lifted a sheet of paper and there it was, the cuff with the Volturi crest on it, the ruby gemstone in the centre, sparkling under the bright bedroom lights.

He closed the drawer, locking it before placing his keys back into his pocket, staring down at the cuff during the entire process. Rosalie pushed herself up from the bed, don't get her wrong, she was still incredibly upset with Nathaniel, but she was mature and knew when it wasn't necessary or when it wasn't the right time.

She approached her husband, looking at the cuff between his fingers over his shoulder and she moved to stand beside him, her golden eyes flickering up to meet the side of his pale face which held an expression of what looked to be nostalgia, but not the positive type where you feel yourself missing what used to be but rather the opposite, he hated his past, despised it just like his vampirism.

Rosalie knew of his past, she knew about the days he was forced — or sometimes not—so—forced — to feed on children, families, the innocent. She knew about the times he'd hated himself, his only hobby being to kill. His past was painful, the Volturi were painful, he longed to never remember but he always did, no matter how hard he tried to forget.

She placed her hands atop the cuff, taking it from his hands and placing it on the desk, his eyes still glued to the leather bracelet. But the blonde stood in front of him, her back against the wooden furniture and her arms around his neck, forcing his eyes away from the relic.

Her non—beating heart broke at the sight of his eyes, dark and cold, full of invisible tears, she knew he was sobbing inside, in so much pain caused by a singular item, something that shouldn't cause such harm. In hopes of soothing his disastrous thoughts, he raised his hands and placed them on either side of his wife's face, his thumb caressing her soft, blushed cheeks, his golden eyes staring directly into hers.

"You're beautiful." He stated, his voice low and gentle, loving and heartfelt. Rosalie smiled, leaning forwards to press a kiss to his lips, it only lasted a moment due to her pulling away, causing him to pout but she lifted her index finger, placing it on his bottom lip.

"Shh." The gorgeous immortal's finger trailed from his lip to his chin, travelling down to his shirt—clad chest, her fingers unbuttoning the shirt as she kissed his sharp jaw in the gentlest way possible, making sure she poured every inch of love into every single kiss she laid upon his skin.

Nathan's eyes fluttered closed, his hands resting on her hips as she dragged her lips down his neck to his bare chest, her fingers working quickly on the buttons of his shirt. And slowly yet gracefully, she kept kissing his skin until she was crouched down, one of his hands rested atop her head, his fingers holding her bouncy waves away from her face.

Good thing their family went out for their hunt at the perfect time.
