At her presence, he closed the book, placing it on the coffee table to not be rude as a guest in their beautiful home.

"You know, quite a few vampires have moved into Alaska, the cold is much more accommodating to our temperature." Irina moved a few things on the coffee table, cleaning up just a tad as she spoke though it was cleaner than it could possibly be and Nathaniel sat up straight, his elbows resting on his thighs.

"That makes sense. You've made a few friends, then?" Nathan turned his head to look at her, watching the side of her face and she smiled a little, if she was human, her cheeks would be bright red from being flustered. He chuckled, noticing her nervousness, "You're nervous. Have you met someone?"

Irina shuffled onto the couch more comfortably, fiddling with one of her gold bracelets, "Maybe." This caught his attention and he stared at her, a huge smirk on his lips.

"Come on, tell me." He scratched his jaw in anticipation and she looked up from her hands, her eyes full of adoration at the thought of her possible mate.

"His name's Laurent, he's a nomad." She explained, smiling at her closest friend and that was when Tanya entered the room, speeding over to sit down beside her sister with an even wider grin than her.

"They're so cute together!" Tanya exclaimed, squeezing Irina's hands with a giggle and Nathan chuckled, looking between the two blonde, amber-eyed sisters with smile.

"Whatever, sister." The younger girl rolled her eyes playfully, flustered by the conversation topic of Laurent but she quickly changed the subject to something more interesting as much as she wanted to drone on about her newfound mate, "Anyways, I was just about to tell Nathaniel about the party tonight."

Tanya's eyes lit up at this and she sat up straight, reaching over to place her hands in Nathan's, "Oh, yes. You came at the perfect time, brother! I already told Edward about it. So exhilarating!"

At Tanya's enthusiasm, Nathan chuckled once more for what felt like the millionth time that day as if he was with Rosalie — she always managed to continuously make him laugh as if it was her gift, "I'd love to go. I didn't bring any nice clothes, though."

"Oh, you don't need to worry about that." Tanya waved it off, smirking at him and Nathaniel furrowed a brow, knowing she was up to something per usual.

EDWARD AND NATHANIEL entered the party full of a mix of vampires, a small few were vegetarians and the rest were... non—vegetarians. Nathan glanced down at his outfit, feeling pretty confident in the all black suit Tanya had chosen for him with a dark, blood—crimson tie to match.

Edward wore a different suit, a suit that Tanya insisted he'd wore because it "brought out his eyes", the suit was all a lighter shade of tan without a tie, which Nathan was pretty jealous about. Ties were suffocating, but that was just his opinion.

He reached up to his tie, tugging on it a little when a waitress approached him, a tray of glasses containing human blood—wine and he waved his hand, refusing the offer for both of the brothers, "Thank you." He thanked her with a grin and she blushed, her cheeks going red before she walked away, flustered from the interaction with the vampire she found most attractive there.

"Go mingle!" Carmen rushed up from behind them and pushed both Cullens into the dance—floor where multiple vampires danced to The Cure, waving their arms around in the air.

Edward fixed his suit and smirked, walking forwards into the crowd, immediately finding a woman to dance with, causing Nathan to chuckle. His brother was a charmer and always will be, he reminded him a lot of himself when he was a much younger vampire.

Nathaniel used to be a player, there was no lie there. He used to use women and men for pleasure in more ways than one, he was ashamed of his antics but his only influence was The Volturi, so what did anyone expect?

Suddenly as he stood at the edge of the dance—floor watching his brother, a hand trailed across his shoulder, over his chest to his other shoulder and lips pressed to his shoulder, causing him to tense up. He wasn't surprised to be completely honest, he was used to vampires thinking they didn't need consent for anything just because of their species, it was disrespectful.

"Did you ask if you could touch me, ma'am?" Nathan turned his head, his eyes looking over at the culprit who was a young woman with auburn curly hair and she smirked, moving around him to stand in front of him.

"No, but where's the fun in that, hm?" She tilted her head, her bright carmine eyes staring up at his golden—crimson eyes and she bit the inside of her cheek, squinting her eyes at his unique eye—colour, "How are your eyes like that?"

"I like the think that's none of your business." He sent her a small smile and spun around, heading over to where the blood—wine drinks were, taking one off of one of the waiters' trays with a thankful smile before he took a sip, his eyes closing with pleasure until someone tapped his shoulder.

He span around again and rolled his eyes at the sight of the same irritating woman, it was harassment at that point and he knew that if Rosalie was there, she would've bit her head off by then, "You're married, huh?"

Her eyes stared at the white gold band around his ring—finger and he looked down at it, opening his mouth to say yes when someone approached, placing their hand on his shoulder, "Yes, he is and the lucky lady is so incredibly gorgeous — blonde, golden—eyed and sporty."

The auburn—haired vampire looked over at Irina with narrowed eyes and she scoffed, walking off back towards the dance—floor. Nathaniel let out a sigh of relief, looking towards Irina with a smile, "Thank you, she was more suffocating than this tie and that seems impossible at this point." He scrunched his noise, tugging at his red tie once more and she rolled her eyes, taking it off for him.

"You know, you shouldn't drink that shit, it's like drugs." Irina momentarily eyed the glass full of liquid she loathed yet yearned for at the same time and she removed the tie from his collar, stuffing it in her small sparkly purse, "Get rid of it." She ordered, pointing at him with a glare before she walked off.

Nathan knew she was just joking, but he placed it down, abandoning it nonetheless, he knew she was right. Multiple people definitely died for all of those drinks, people who were possibly innocent and it wasn't as if he cared much.

He was a nice guy, of course, but he'd broken the treaty back home a number of times, not to mention that he'd mercilessly murdered innocent people in cold blood. He was shameful, and it was something he only told Rosalie, he was trying to make a change, he just didn't know how.

Edward knew of his antics, but never judged him for it. Yes, it was against his morals but Nathaniel did what he could. One thing about that hiker that Nathan had drained the blood of with Rosalie just a few days prior was that he was a wife—beater, a child—murderer and a horrible human being who deserved nothing but death and pain.

He smirked a little at the thought of the man groaning in pain as Nathan snapped his fingers one by one and a chuckle escaped his lips before he walked over to the dance—floor, approaching his brother, whom he began to dance with, both dancing like maniacs, but none of them cared.

The older vampire was glad his brother was letting go of all his pain and finally being free for once in his life, something that could've made Nathan's heart happy if it was still alive.

A COUPLE OF NIGHTS LATER, it was time to leave Alaska and go back home to Forks and as much as Nathan was saddened to say goodbye to his cousins, he was over—the—moon about seeing his wife again, he could already smell her gorgeous raspberry scent, see her wide beautiful smile and hear her stunningly perfect voice rolling off of her tongue like honey.

He carried his small suitcase to Edward's Volvo, placing it in the open trunk which already contained Edward's luggage inside, "You got everything, Edward?" Nathan asked the boy who was stood at the doorstep, plenty of centimetres away and he nodded even though Nathaniel couldn't see him.

"Yes." Edward confirmed and the older Cullen closed the trunk door, carefully but firmly. All of the Denalis exited the cabin, piling out into the cold night air which didn't affect them in the slightest.

He rounded the Volvo and smiled, knowing why Irina was the first to approach him, they were the closest by far. The two embraced tightly and he could swear he heard a cry leave her lips, "I'll miss you, Nate." She wiped her watered eyes quickly as she pulled away and he chuckled, placing his hand on her shoulder, looking into her eyes with nothing but care.

"I love you loads, Irina. Take care of yourself. I'll be back, I promise." He grinned at her and she smiled wide, nodding with hope in her eyes. They never saw each other often, that was a fact, but one thing Nathan didn't do was lie, he never lied to anybody about anything, even to humans who didn't believe him anyways, far too stupid to understand the concept.

"I believe you." She leaned forwards and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek before walking off, the other blondes making their way over after saying their goodbyes to Edward.

"You better come back soon, we must go to another party together. Edward looked so free." Tanya gave him a quick hug and Kate moved forwards after Tanya pulled away, hugging him too.

"I enjoyed our week together, Nathaniel. It was amazing to see you, and I'll try not to zap you next time." Kate smiled at the memory of when she was painting and she'd accidentally electrocuted him when he was just admiring the half—finished painting from afar.

"That killed, please do more than try." Nathaniel practically begged with a laugh and she chuckled, nodding in agreement. Carmen and Eleazar walked over, both of them embracing Nathan with huge grins on their lips.

"Adios, Nathaniel." Carmen kissed both of his cheeks as a goodbye, smiling sweetly up at him and she moved backwards, allowing her mate to do the same.

"It was lovely to see you again, Nathan. Next time we see each other we must go over some old memories together." Eleazar insisted and Nathan nodded eagerly, wanting nothing more than to relish in their past friendship together.

"Of course, Eleazar, I'd love that." He bowed just a little at him and Edward approached, swinging the keyring of his set of car keys around his index finger.

"Time to head off if we want to get back in time for school tomorrow." Edward informed his brother, climbing into the driver's seat considering he was much more suitable to drive that time. Nathan waved at them all once more before he opened the passenger door, taking a seat and putting on his seatbelt despite the fact that he was immortal and didn't need the extra protection.

"What a nice week, did it help?" Nathan asked as they rolled out of the driveway, smiling over at the Denali coven as they made their way down the road and Edward nodded, a wide grin on his lips.

"It was awesome, thank you for this, Nathan. I really needed it. I'm ready to face Isabella tomorrow." Edward spoke, more reassuring himself than Nathan and he tapped his fingertips on the steering wheel when the older Cullen cleared his throat, catching his attention.

"Actually, it's Bella." Nathaniel corrected with a laugh and Edward rolled his eyes, chuckling a little but he definitely noted that fact in the back of his mind. For some reason, he cared for his blood—singer... it was strange.
