𓏲 ࣪₊♡𓂃 AFTER SCHOOL THAT DAY, Nathan was stood by Emmett's Jeep with Rosalie under his arm when Edward came storming towards them and without a word to any of them, he grabbed onto Nathaniel's arm, dragging him away from his wife and towards the woods.
"Edward, is everything okay?" Nathan questioned calmly, allowing his brother to pull his arm through the forest, manoeuvring through the tall trees, being careful not to step on any twigs. Eventually, Edward stopped and spun around, his eyes sad and confused, making Nathan want nothing more than to hug him.
But, due to Edward's telepathic ability, he was able to read Nathaniel's mind and that was why the boy sped into his best—friend's arms, throwing his arms around his torso and with a small sympathetic smile, Nathaniel wrapped his own arms around Edward's shoulders, resting his chin on his shoulder.
"It's okay, brother." Nathan reassured him, listening to Edward dry sob broke his non-beating heart and he wasn't sure why he was so upset, but he didn't need to know, he just wanted to be there for him.
After meeting back up with Carlisle so many decades ago, Nathaniel took a quick liking towards the Masen boy for unknown reasons and many of their siblings stated that they were the platonic soulmates to which they both agreed to.
A few moments of silence went by and Edward pulled away, his hands gripping onto Nathan's shoulders, "When you first met Rose, did you ever feel almost... disgusted by the smell of her blood?" Edward questioned, his eyes slightly bloodshot from his crying and Nathan furrowed his eyebrows, searching his brother's eyes for any hint of anything.
"No, she smelt more beautiful than anything that I'd ever smelt before, I couldn't even smell her blood. Why?" He tilted his head to the side a little when Edward dropped his hands from his shoulders and Nathaniel let out a heavy sigh, dragging his hand down his face, "She might be your blood singer."
This perked Edward's interest, his face instantly snapping up to face his brother's, "What does that mean?" The ever—so—slightly shorter vampire questioned, his bushy brows pinched in confusion and genuine curiosity.
"It basically means that her blood sings to you but I'll be more complex. Her blood should make you feel weaker and you aren't disgusted by her blood, it's just so strong and... delicious that your stomach may hurt." Nathan explained calmly and he licked his lips, averting his eyes to his shoes when Edward began to panic, taking a few steps away and turning his back to Nathan, placing his hands behind his head.
"This cannot be happening." Edward squeezed his eyes shut and crouched down, his face in his hands. Nathaniel sped over to him, kneeling down in front of him and he wrapped his arms around him again, engulfing him in a tight needed hug. Edward closed his eyes, relaxing in Nathan's embrace.
"Maybe you need a short getaway to prepare yourself for Bella, I'm not sure there's any other options but I can come with you if you'd like? We could go to Alaska for a week." Nathan suggested, rubbing Edward's back comfortingly and the boy nodded, his chin on his shoulder.
After a few moments, Edward pulled away and the two smiled at each other before standing up, wiping off their jeans.
"We'll have to tell the others, come on, brother." Nathaniel threw his arm over Edward's arm with a short—lived chuckle, leading the younger vampire through the woods and Edward couldn't wipe the smile off of his face. Nathaniel's gift might as well have been the ability to make one feel better about literally anything without putting in any effort, he did it so easily, Edward was kind of jealous.
IT TURNED OUT THAT Rosalie was completely fine with being away from her husband for the longest time since they'd met, knowing it was for Edward's benefit, that was why she loved her mate so much, he sacrificed his own needs for his loved ones' needs.
Nathaniel carried his small suitcase with ease towards Edward's Volvo, placing it in the trunk and he walked over to his wife, a grin on his lips. The blonde approached him, her hands reaching up to grasp either sides of his face, pulling his lips onto hers passionately.
From a couple of metres away, their family watched and Lola whistled despite the fact that they'd seen the couple kiss each other millions of times before, out of all of the couples in the family, Rosalie and Nathan by far were the most intimate and loving, that was just a fact though some would argue against it — only Emmett.
Edward approached, his suitcase already in the car and he closed the trunk door, moving to stand nearby the mates who were still making out in the middle of the path. They had no reason to split apart, it wasn't like they needed to take a break for air or anything.
Eventually, Rosalie pulled away, her hands still placed on his cheeks and she stared up into his eyes with adoration before quickly pressing a soft kiss to his forehead, patting his cheek. Before she could move away, Nathan took one of her hands in his and lifted the back of it to his lips, kissing it softly, making Alice and Esme swoon from the porch.
"I love you, beautiful. I'll see you soon." Nathan pressed one more kiss to her hand and let it go, taking a step away from her. Rosalie smiled sadly at him, watching him walk off towards the driver's door to the Volvo considering Edward was in no shape to drive in that moment and Esme approached the blonde, wrapping her arm around the younger girl's shoulders as they both watched the car pull out and drive off down the dirt road.
Edward opened up the glove compartment, searching through his dozens of CDs until he finally picked one out, opening it up to place it in the small radio in the centre of them. Clair De Lune began to play and Nathaniel scrunched his brows, looking over at his brother who leaned back in his seat, silently sulking as he listened to the music.
Rapidly with one hand, Nathan clicked the CD out of the radio and placed it back into its designated case, placing it back into the glove compartment. Edward went to protest but quickly closed his mouth again as he watched Nathaniel search through the other CDs, "Do you only ever listen to Debussy?"
"No..." Edward side—eyed him, knowing full well that Debussy was his favourite and was pretty much the only music he listened to, he had other CDs in his bedroom but preferred Debussy over the rest. Nathan rolled his eyes and closed the compartment, his eyes concentrating back on the road as he sat up straight in his seat.
"I guess there's just the radio, then." He flicked on the radio and the news began to play. Edward reached his hand forward to switch it to another channel when something the reporter said made him pause his movements, his eyes immediately widening in shock.
"On another note, there's been an animal attack, most likely a bear or a coyote but the bodies have only been drained of blood. Have we got a vampire on our hands? Well, I hope not. Keep your kids and yourselves out of the woods until further notice, thanks, this is—" Nathaniel switched off the radio completely, his eyes momentarily locking onto Edward's, the both holding the same shocked expression
"Well that's definitely not a coyote nor is it a bear. That's got to be a vampire, right?" Edward tilted his head towards his brother, whose eyes were staring straight ahead onto the road in front of them, the sun setting over the cliff on the mountain they were driving up towards the Denali Coven's home.
"Maybe, let's not jump to conclusions though. We'll see..." Nathan approached the Denali home, parking the car effortlessly on the dirt path that was usually covered in thick blankets of snow. The two brothers climbed out and in the split of a second, every member of the Denali Coven was stood outside, greeting them both.
"Hola, Nathan! It's been too long!" Carmen wrapped her arms around his shoulders, bringing him into a hug whilst Tanya embraced Edward, everybody taking their turns to greet the boys. Carmen pulled away and stepped aside, allowing Eleazar to move forwards, wrapping his own arms around the brunet.
"Lovely to see you again, Nathaniel." Eleazar patted the younger vampire's back and pulled away, a grin on his lips. They'd only seen each other a few times since they'd been close in the Volturi together.
"You too, Eleazar. You both look great." He complimented with a soft smile and Carmen giggled, Eleazar letting out a laugh, patting his shoulder in thanks. Kate, Tanya and Irina approached as the couple greeted Edward and the two sisters took their turns to greet Nathan, "Hello, Kate."
"Hi, my brother." Kate smiled sweetly whilst Tanya and Irina stayed back, but once Kate pulled away, Irina had sped into the boy's arms. Irina was a broken girl, she struggled a lot with coping with almost everything and Nathaniel had always been there to be the shoulder for her to cry on, or to give her advice that would always help in the most perfect way possible.
"I missed you." Irina whispered, holding onto him tightly and he chuckled, resting his chin on her shoulder. Eventually, she pulled back, patting his head, causing Tanya to chuckle, the eldest sibling moving forwards to embrace him.
After the greetings, the Cullens grabbed their very limited amount of luggage and followed the coven into the large cabin. They shared the one guest bedroom, the room containing three double beds considering how spacious it was and it had its own bathroom, much better than the guest room in their house in Forks.
"You feeling any better?" Nathaniel asked his brother, sitting down on the edge of his confirmed bed for the week, his eyes glued to his brother who was staring at the paintings lining the walls and he fiddled with sleeves of his grey button—up shirt.
"Yeah, I'm actually feeling much better. Thank you for this, Nathan." Edward grinned, looking back over at the paintings until he froze, his smile widening after reading Tanya's mind from across the house, "I think they're going for a hunt, want to join?"
"I could eat." Nathan stood up from the bed, rolling up his sleeves to his elbows and Edward chuckled, walking beside him with his hand on his shoulder.
"Just don't hurt the bunnies this time." Edward teased, already laughing from the look of playful disbelief of Nathan's face, the older Cullen's jaw dropped in shock.
"I never did that, you liar!" Nathaniel shook his head, rolling his eyes playfully as they entered the narrow hallway, the pink light from the sunset shining through the wide windows. The Denali house was not only much like the Cullen house because of Esme designing them both but the vibe of the entire building gave Nathan chills — in a good way.
It was beautiful, especially earlier or later in the year when it's snowing, thick carpets of snow lining the roof and icicles hanging from the wall trims, making the house look even more gorgeous than it already did.
