𓏲 ࣪₊♡𓂃 THE NEXT MORNING, Nathaniel found himself head deep into a romance novel, flipping through the pages like clockwork. His feet were propped up on the back of Emmett's driver seat of his jeep, his ankles crossed and his elbow propped up on the rim of the door. Edward was sat beside Nathan, staring out the glassless window with a pair of sunglasses on his eyes despite the fact that there was no sunlight in sight.
Jasper and Emmett were in the front, chatting about a grizzly bear they'd managed to catch a couple days prior, they seemed to be extremely prideful about it. Rosalie, Lola and Alice were in Rosalie's BMW M3 convertible, leading the way to Forks' High School as they spoke about their upcoming shopping trip, Lola mostly droning on about one of the pies in a bakery in Port Angeles that she day-dreamed about devouring.
Once they arrived at school, the name 'Isabella' was thrown into their ears by many voices, she seemed to be the new girl, the new girl Alice had been so excited about. The aforementioned vampire hopped out of the eye-catching red convertible and clapped her hands, latching onto Jasper's elbow in attempt to calm her enthusiasm down though it hardly worked as she bounced up and down on her heels.
Luckily, thanks to Jasper's ability to control one's emotions, she calmed down just a little but the large grin was still evident on her glossy lips. Nathan climbed over Edward and out of the Jeep and he rushed over to Rosalie's door, opening it for her. She blushed as she stepped out of her vehicle, placing her hand in his once she was stable on the ground and he closed the door, leading her around the rear-end of the car towards their siblings.
"Are you excited, Edward? You're finally going to be meeting your potential mate." Emmett teased and Edward rolled his eyes, walking away from the group. A few of them didn't believe that Alice's vision was true, two of them being Rosalie and Edward himself but Nathaniel had confirmed it, it was impossible for it to be a lie.
"Someone's in denial." Lola giggled, leaning into Emmett's arm which was draped over her shoulders with her arms crossed over her chest and Nathaniel chuckled too, his thumb slowly caressing the back of Rose's soft hand. He could feel how tense she was when they spoke about the human girl and Edward, so he leaned his lips closer to her, his cold breath hovering over her ear lobe.
"You wanna get to class?" He asked in a gentle tone, careful not to discomfort her more than needed and she nodded, turning her head to look into his eyes. Most of the time, he didn't need to cover his eyes with the black liquid that exited when he wanted to know if someone was telling the truth, he just needed to look into their eyes for just a moment and he could feel their every emotion, telling him that they were telling the truth.
They bid their goodbyes to the others and strolled off towards the stairwell leading up to the entrance of the High School, hand-in-hand. It was different from every other day, nobody was interested by the Cullens anymore and the new hot gossip was now Isabella Swan, catching everybody's attention.
Down the end of the hallway, they heard her name again but this time, as an introduction, "Just Bella." The girl responded to Eric Yorkie, who was most likely trying to get either information for the school paper or in her pants.
The vampire couple turned, looking over at the girl who was slightly hidden behind Eric but Nathan could just make out her wavy brown hair and pale skin, possibly paler than theirs. Unlike Nathaniel, Rose grimaced at the sight of her, quickly turning around and dragging her mate towards their Art class.
Once they were sat in their designated spots, Rosalie began to vent to Nate about everything, about how she knew this all was going to end horribly and how her family is being put in so much danger. He completely understood where she was coming from and it was true, she could possibly find out about them if Edward starts to get to know her and that would get the Cullens in trouble with the Volturi.
IN THE GYM CLASS, the only class Nathan had on his own without his siblings, he was playing basketball with the boys whilst the girls played netball on the other side of the gymnasium. He was dribbling the ball effortlessly and he jumped, chucking the ball perfectly into the hoop, earning cheers from his teammates, causing him to grin.
The second time around, he was stood back, allowing his other classmates to have a go at earning them a point and he had his hands on his hips when he heard a ball bounce off of the ground, and as if he had eyes in the back of his head, he spun around speedily, catching the ball.
He wasn't sure who the culprit was but when the new girl, Bella Swan began to walk towards him, her hand covering her mouth, he smiled, knowing it was her. Nathaniel held out the netball towards her, and she chuckled nervously, taking it from him before she threw it back to her team.
"I'm sorry about that, I told them not to let me play. I suck at sport." Bella rolled her eyes, a smile on her lips and Nathan shook his head with a short-lived laugh, waving his hand, dismissing her apology.
"No, no, don't worry about it. Bella, isn't it?" He tilted his head, pointing at her with a furrowed brow and her smile grew as she nodded, a little more enthusiastic about Forks after meeting someone who finally called her by the name she preferred as if he knew her.
"Yeah, you got it right." She pushed her lips into a tight line, rolling backwards and forwards on her heels out of anxiousness, which Nathaniel immediately took notice of. He watched as she stared down at her tennis shoes unsure of what to say and so he cleared his throat, bringing her attention back to him.
"I'm Nathan." The older boy leaned forward ever so slightly with a soft smile, hoping she felt comfortable. If she was going to possibly be Edward's mate, he wanted to get to know her or at least just know her a little. Bella went to open her mouth to respond when Jessica Stanley rushed over, interrupting their conversation.
"She's got a great spike, huh?" Jessica grinned, standing beside Bella and Nathan nodded with a chuckle, agreeing with her. He looked over at Bella, who clearly looked uncomfortable and the bell rang at perfect timing.
"Bella, meet me outside the changing rooms, I'll show you to the cafeteria." Nathan offered and she sent him a grateful smile, nodding.
"Okay." She replied, waving a little and she walked off. Jessica chuckled at Nathan nervously and rushed off after Bella, causing him to let out a heavy sigh, spinning around on his heels.
After he'd gotten changed into his usual attire, he exited the changing rooms, his eyes scanning the quiet corridor to see no Bella in sight, making him chuckle to himself. He assumed she'd been abducted by Jessica or someone else who is friends with Miss Stanley, so he headed towards where his family always met up at the beginning of lunch, his eyes immediately locking onto Rosalie's once he made it outside.
His siblings stayed put where they were in the courtyard whilst Rose rushed over to her husband, her arms immediately wrapping around his torso as soon as they got close enough. Nathaniel was taken aback by her sudden intimacy, she wasn't usually one for so much physical touch or public affection but he didn't care, wrapping his muscular arms around her shoulders tightly and resting his head on hers.
They stayed like that for a moment until she eventually pulled away, looking up into her mate's eyes and he placed his hands on either side of her face, his eyebrows furrowed in concern for her, "Are you all right, beautiful?" His eyes scanned hers, looking for any sign of distress but there was nothing but love and adoration in her golden eyes.
"I'm fine, babe, I just love you. Now, come on, let's go inside." The blonde beauty moved away from him and took a few steps away, her hand still in his but he pulled her back to his chest, shaking his head. He looked down at her, brushing some of her curled hair away from her face before he gently grabbed ahold of her chin, leaning down to press his lips onto hers for just a moment.
After a couple of seconds, he pulled away and smiled softly, caressing her cheek with his thumb, "I love you more." He whispered to her and she smiled, flustered by his attention that he gave her every day. Rosalie grabbed onto his hand and dragged his towards the cafeteria, their siblings slowly following behind.
They were the first ones to enter the cafeteria, all eyes landing on them for a short second before they continued conversing between each other except for a certain table where the new girl was sat, gaining information on the Cullens from Jessica and Angela Weber.
"They're the Cullens, Dr and Mrs Cullens' foster kids and Nathan, who you met earlier, is Dr. Cullen's little brother." Jessica explained as Rosalie and Nathan entered, and they walked towards their usual table arm-in-arm, ears perked up, listening to the conversation, "The blonde girl on his arm, that's Rosalie and trust me, she isn't as nice as Nathan."
Once they got out of earshot and sat down at their table, Rosalie slapped his bicep as she got comfortable in the plastic chair. Nathan furrowed his brows, pretending as if it hurt but in reality, he didn't feel a thing.
"You spoke to her?" Rosalie hissed angrily, glaring at him in disbelief and he leaned forwards in his chair, his forearms on the table in front of him, hands interlocked.
"Yes, if she's possibly Edward's mate then I want to at least know of her." Nathan responded calmly, too in love with the blonde to become annoyed, angry or irritated with her, he could never be upset at her about anything, even if she fell in love with somebody else which broke his heart even thinking about it, "Please understand from my point of view."
"We'll discuss this later." Rosalie adjusted the white scarf around her neck, staring away from him at the flags lining the ceiling above the cafeteria entrance and Nathan let out a tired sigh, dragging one of his hands down his face. If he knew that even just speaking with the new girl once would upset his wife this much, he never would've done it.
His siblings approached, taking the other seats at the table and Edward stared intently at the back of Bella's head until she turned around, causing him to slowly look away, throwing the apple in his hand back onto the table.
Emmett, Lola, Alice, Rosalie and Jasper got chatting, laughing at the conversation at hand and Edward took that as his chance to lean closer to his best-friend, speaking in a quiet voice despite the fact that they all could hear them, "I can't read her mind, what does that mean?"
Nathaniel's eyebrows pinched at his question, completely unsure of what that meant, "Uh, maybe she has nothing on her mind." The older vampire shrugged, suggesting something that was definitely impossible.
"That's impossible." Edward stated his thoughts and Nathan nodded, leaning back in his chair with a distant look. Edward let out a frustrated sigh, and Nathaniel couldn't help but feel bad for not knowing how to help. He didn't feel the best in that moment, so he attempted to gently hold onto Rose's hand that was sat on her thigh and without a glance his way, she allowed him to hold onto her hand, giving his hand a little squeeze of reassurance.
No matter how annoyed with him she was, she'd always be there to show him the love he deserved because she loved him, she loved him so much that there were no stars in the sky that could possibly explain her love for him.
A small smile appeared on his lips, his eyes glued to their hands, practically starstruck by her physical touch and discreetly, a small smile appeared on her lips too as if all of her irritation towards him had disappeared, their love was too strong for anger.
