  "and that's how luffy cut his face." sapphire concluded after telling koby, their new friend, the story of shanks and his crew. also how stupid luffy was as a kid. 

shanks has always been a father figure to both luffy and sapphire. and call her a daddy's girl but she loved shanks like he was her father and he loved her like she was his own. 

"but i don't get it." koby said,still a little confused with their goals. "why would anyone want to be a pirate?" 

luffy paused his eating on the apple he was given and gave koby a semi-serious expression. "because it's the best thing there is." he answered in a dreamy state. "you have the wind on your back, the salty sea air, and your loyal crew by your side." 

"and the mysteries of the ocean, just waiting to be discovered." sapphire smiled, sighing dreamily as she leaned on a barrel. "couldn't you just imagine the adventure? it's magical." 

luffy and koby both couldn't stop the blush from forming on their face as sapphire was too busy swooning over her little daydream about the ocean. how can someone be so pretty just by daydreaming? it was insane. 

"n-nothing's free about alvida's crew." koby stammered out, breaking himself out of his daze. "she tells me when to eat, when to sleep. i have to paint her toenails." 

"how awful." she mumbled, scrunching up her face to the thought of painting anyone's toenails. it made her shiver.

"so why don't you just leave?" luffy suggested in a cheerful manner. he found some bread from a different barrel and began eating it. 

"no one leaves alvida! she'll never let me go." koby retorted, shaking his head rapidly before frowning to himself sadly.

sapphire stared at him with pursed lips. she felt like there should be something they could do for him. koby seemed like a sweet guy. kind and shy, too. and to think that he was in some slave contract with a woman like alvida sounded horrible to the max. and she understood why he was scared of all pirates. 

"you should never let anyone tell you what you can't do." luffy advised. "if we did that, sapphie and i would have never left to find the one piece." 

"wait...gold roger's treasure?" koby asked as soon as realization hit him. "that's impossible. every pirate in the world is after that. and there were rumors that gold rogers entrusted the location of it to triton d. oceania. but neither she nor the one piece has ever been found." 

"oceania?" sapphire mumbled, looking at koby with curiosity. luffy suddenly stopped eating as soon as he said that, also very curious. 

koby nodded sheepishly as he rubbed his arm a little. "y-yeah...being down here, i've been reading a lot on her. they say she was one of the richest pirates of the time and also one of the four most feared war criminals of the sea. even the marines were terrified of her and her crew, the sea serpents. but when people allegedly found out that she was a siren, her bounty went up so high, every single pirate and marines, even ordinary sailors were out for her head. she even faced mutiny with some of her own crew mates because of her bounty......she disappeared some time before gold roger's execution in logue town. it was speculated that she had a map to the one piece, but she was gone without a trace. presumed dead." 

UNKNOWN ISLAND, MANY YEARS AGO

"oceania, it has been a while." vice admiral monkey d. garp greeted, walking along the wooden ports where he saw the grand and luxurious ship, 'the atlantean', docked at. this island was like no man's land. he was able to use it whenever he needed to speak with oceania without the marine's knowing.

triton d. oceania, also known as "diamond rush oceania", walked away from the edge of the dock near her ship. the sun was setting and the wind was picking up near the horizon. the black skirt of her long dress blew with every step she took near him. she was wearing a loose and sheer long sleeved black shirt, a blood red corset over it with strings of pearls and other little diamonds around her waist. diamond necklaces adorned her neck like a beautiful display and her long black hair fell all the way down to her hips. 

she wore dangling earrings on her ears and held a neutral expression on her face as she walked over to garp. she was a lot shorter than he was so she had to look up at him. 

"what do you want, my garp? my crew and i cannot be seen coming to this island too many times." she asked in a low tone, crossing her arms. "if you haven't noticed, my bounty-" 

"i know what you're hiding, oceania." garp interrupted her, suddenly getting serious. 

oceania paused, looking at him with a slightly puzzled expression. not having any clue of what he was implying. "what are you talking about?" 

garp stared at her for a few seconds before his eyes flickered from hers to her stomach. he raised an eyebrow at her, nodding towards her torso. and without words, he let her know that he knew what was going on with her. 

her face went from neutral to a slow panic. she looked around them, making sure none of her crew mates were around to hear them talk about the giant elephant between them. "look, i don't know what roger told you, but-" 

"so it is roger's," he concluded his own suspicions. 

roger had told him that he was a father of two. a boy from a woman he used to love and oceania was carrying his second child. both of which he knew he would not live to see at all. it confused garp. he had always known that roger loved rogue. but he also knew that oceania had a hold on him. she had one on garp, too. which was why he was willing to get in trouble just to see her. 

but the fact that she was carrying his child....it was like a wave of realization and confusion hit him all at once. it was confusing but it still answered his answers. ones roger refuses to answer for him. 

"amphi-" he mumbled quietly but oceania shut him down. 

"don't..." she sneered through her teeth, giving him a mini glare. "don't you call me that name....i told you, never again." 

garp sighed. "okay, oceania....do you know how dangerous this is? the world already knows what you are now, thanks to akainu....what are they going to do when they find out that you are carrying gold roger's child? every pirate in east blue, north, south and west will be hunting you down." 

"but not rogue, huh?" she countered bitterly, looking into his eyes with unshed tears forming in her oceanic blue eyes. "no, she was smart. she withheld her pregnancy from everyone but you and roger.....i should have just done that. maybe then i can live in peace, finally." 

"you know that's not what i-" 

"then what did you mean, garp?" she snapped at him as a tear fell from her eye. "if roger truly loved me like he said he did.....why send me away? why?" 

"because he refused to give you up to the marines." garp revealed, breaking his friend's promise.

his words caused oceania to pause and stare at him in shock. not really believing what he was saying but then again, garp is a marine. so his words must hold the truth in them. especially since he is friends with roger. 

garp sighed again, hating that he had to reveal that secret for her to understand. but he didn't want roger to die while oceania was mad at him. ".....they gave him an ultimatum...either give up your location...you and your crew's loaction for his own freedom....or be executed for his crimes........he chose to be executed." 

oceania felt the air in her lungs give out as she listened to him speak. and like a hurricane, a flashback of the last time he saw her. the way he forced her to leave him behind. pretending he didn't know who she was...it all made sense. 

"he somehow knew you were pregnant...roger had a way of knowing things before people do." garp chuckled humorlessly, shaking his head a little. "....he knew that he wouldn't live to see his own children be born...so he made sure they lived because no child should ever pay for the sins of their fathers....and i know you were thinking the same thing." 

oceania felt more tears fall down her face as she looked off. taking in his words as each one punched her. her heart broke even more. she was pregnant, had to watch her back and was constantly on the run. she felt like she couldn't trust anyone. not a single person. and now that she's having a child....it wasn't fair. 

"......damn you, roger." she mumbled shakily as she held back a sob that built in her throat. ".....the last thing i wanted to have is a child in the life i chose to live. it's not fair...." 

garp felt his heart break as he watched the woman he loves slowly start to cry, placing a hand on her stomach and her other hand over her mouth. muffling the painful sobs under her palm as reality hit the both of them entirely. 

roger really was going to be executed and neither of them could do anything about it. oceania was losing the man she loved and garp was losing one of his dearest friends. and to make matters worse, he would never get to see his children live. and oceania was condemned to a life where she will never know peace....as long as she continues to set sail as a captain.

"i can't do this anymore, my garp." she sobbed out, looking up at him. "....i can't.... i don't want my baby to have to live as i did....they shouldn't be on the run....wondering who she could trust....it's not fair." 

"i can help you, oceania." garp said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "i know an island. just past the grand line...it's uncharted, undiscovered by man and hidden well. a place where you and your kind can live in peace....away from all of this. you can raise your child there in peace. like i know you want. you just have to trust me...." 

"to this day, no one at all knows if she's dead or missing." koby concluded. luffy and sapphire listened to him carefully, fully enamored with the story. "her bounty is still active, though. alvida wants to be the one to be the one who collects it. which is one of the things she's been doing while sailing. if she can get a map to the grand line, she could find captain oceania and collect on that bounty."

while luffy was enamored with the story, sapphire stared at him with a slight frown on her face. there was a possibility of oceania being alive? if they find her when they reach the grand line, maybe she could somehow get her story from her. it would be a great addition to her story about their journey. to be able to meet the great triton d. oceania. 

suddenly, a growling noise rumbled all around them. sapphire jumped and yelped a little while luffy stood next to her, protectively pushing her behind him. 

"is....is that one of the sea beasts?" luffy asked, gasping happily at the possibility of seeing another sea beast. sapphire frowned a little, not able to understand that growling as she hid behind him. 

"no....it's not saying anything." she whispered, looking up. 

"it's just alvida's snoring." koby corrected both of them plainly. which caused luffy to lose all excitement, replacing it with disappointment while sapphire sighed in relief. "if you two want to get out of here, it's now or never." 

the two looked at koby with slow grins gracing their faces. he was going to help them escape. maybe this was their chance to finally be able to seek out a proper ship and crew. 

"lead the way, brave koby." sapphire said, smiling at him sweetly. koby felt his face grow hot upon seeing her pretty grin. it was a wonder how luffy was able to survive so long with her. 

the night time was cold and the sea calmly waved through the dusk as the three snuck their way up to the upper deck. luffy and sapphire were on both sides of their newest friend, koby, as he led the way to where the life boat was. sapphire used a light blue ribbon to tie her hair in a loose half ponytail. the priceless clam shell necklace rested around her neck, shining through the dark as they made sure not to wake up alvida or anyone from her crew. 

the three lifted up the hatch quietly and carefully, making sure that the coast was clear before advancing on. the sounds of loud snoring and sleepy mumbles could be heard all around them as they reached the deck full of slumbering pirates. luffy and koby exited out of the hatch first.

the future king of pirates held the hatch open for sapphire while grabbing her hand with his free hand, ushering her out of the lower deck. once she was out, she dusted off her long skirt. 

"lifeboats are tied at the stern of the ship." koby whispered extremely quietly, leading them to where they are, closing the hatch carefully. 

sapphire looked around the sleeping pirates and nearly giggled at their funny sleepy faces but quickly covered her mouth. so that she didn't make too much noise. but she wondered how they were able to sleep on the deck like that. she could barely sleep inside of a barrel. then again, she had her luffy in there with her and she slept on his shoulder. 

sapphire's glowing oceanic blue eyes looked up at the sky, noticing the stars and how bright they were. the moon illuminated over the horizon so beautifully. she couldn't help but to let her mind get the better of her. it was all so pretty to her. she always thought she could only get a view like this on foosha island. there was a cliff near dadan's house where she would often sneak to. it overlooked the ocean and the beach beautifully. sometimes, she would climb the tree and just watch the moon and stars, singing softly to herself. 

"sapphie!" luffy's whispery voice broke her from her daydream, making her look over at him and koby, who were already at the lifeboat. "come on!" 

she quickly, but quietly, made her way over to them as koby untied the lifeboat for them. "head due north. you should hit land in a few days." he said, giving them a small smile. nodding at both of them as a farewell.  

luffy looked confused while sapphire, who had a better sense of direction than him, understood him. she was going to ask him something but her boot slipped under her, making her nearly fall. but instead, she accidentally pushed the boat, making one of the oars fall and slam against the deck. 

the three of them paused, eyes widened as they noticed the other pirates beginning to wake up. this was going to end badly if they didn't do something soon. thinking fast, sapphire quickly began to do what she did best. sing. 

"wolves asleep admist the threes. bats all a swaying in the breeze." she sang soothingly, lulling them back to sleep. "but one soul lies anxious, wide awake. fearing no manner of ghouls, hags and wraiths." 

the more she sang, the more the sailors began to be hypnotized by her alluring and magical voice. her voice was mystical, seductive and so calming, it was completely hypnotizing. 

"for your dolly polly sleep has flown. don't dare let her tremble alone. for the witcher, heartless, cold, paid in coin of gold. he comes, he'll go, leave naught behind." 

"she's beautiful." koby mused over, becoming hypnotized by her. luffy didn't say anything but nodded slowly in agreement, feeling his lips slightly turn upright in a dreamy smile. 

luffy and koby couldn't help but to pause and listen to her, slipping into a trance-like state as she sang on. she was unknowingly hypnotizing them, as well. but all that was stopped when a loud and brash voice broke the peaceful song. 

"what the hell is going on up here?!" alvida's voice snapped all of them out of the hypnosis. breaking sapphire's concentration. she stomped upon the deck with her heavy feet as she looked around and spotted koby with two individuals she had never seen before. "you dare betray me to bounty hunters?!" 

scared, koby quickly shook his head. "n-no, that's not it at all-" 

alvida's eyes went from him to luffy and sapphire. luffy stared at her with a deadpanned look while sapphire furrowed her eyebrows at her a little. not liking the way she was talking to their new friend. she was right. this alvida was as brash and horrid as her voice sounded. 

"and you, you're too scrawny to be roronoa zoro." she insulted luffy before directing her glare at sapphire. "and you're too ditzy looking to even be a bounty hunter." 

"our names are monkey d. luffy and atlantica d. sapphire." sapphire shot back in disdain for the portly captain. 

"never heard of you two." alvida scoffed at the two of them. acting as if they were dirt beneath her huge feet. 

"well, remember our names." luffy added in a cheeky tone, grinning his signature grin whenever he was feeling prideful. "i'm going to be the king of the pirates and she's going to be the greatest songstress this world will ever know."

his bold statement made everyone, including alvida, laugh out super loud. sapphire glared at all of them. she hated when people would make fun of luffy's goal. 

"you two must be new around here." she scoffed with a grin on her lips. "because who's the most powerful pirate on the seas?" 

"captain alvida!" her crew mates yelled out in unison. raising their drinks as if it were a celebration. sapphire glared at her. she was so full of herself, it was ridiculous. 

"well, you're not oceania." sapphire insulted her, causing their cheers to cease. "she was the greatest pirate on the seas. you're just a wanna be pirate on a dingy ship with a raggedy crew. and a boring jolly roger." 

"what did you say, you little witch?" alvida sneered through her gritted teeth. 

"you heard me, you fat, poor excuse of a captain." sapphire sneered back. not at all afraid of her. 

koby looked a sapphire, extremely nervous for her well being. seeing as how alvida looked like she was about to explode. her face was getting more and more red with fury after sapphire hurdled those insults at her. did this girl not read the room?! alvida was going to murder her!

"sapphire, don't!" koby pleaded, shaking in fear as he kept glancing at alvida. he turned to luffy, who looked like he was not going to do anything to stop her. "luffy, do something before alvida kills her!"

"she shouldn't have insulted her." he replied, also glaring at alvida. 

"koby doesn't have to stay with you." sapphire continued her anger filled words. "and he doesn't have to listen to anything you say. he's his own man." 

"no, no, he's not." alvida clicked her tongue, pursing her lips. she dawned on a condescending smirk as she tilted her head in an eerily manner.  "he's mine and he will always be mine." 

"well, that's not what he told us, sour face." sapphire shot back, giving her a sassy look. "he said you were mean, and cruel, and that you're as dumb as a sea cow. by the looks of it, he was completely right." 

"no! captain alvida, i didn't say that-!" koby quickly denied, widening his eyes after he couldn't believe the things she was saying about him. he did not want to be murdered and thrown overboard over sapphire's words. 

alvida reached her boiling point as she suddenly attacked sapphire with her iron weapon, narrowily missing her as she was quicker on her feet. ducking and pushing koby out of the way. soon, an all out brawl began amongst the two and her crew. 

she kept swinging at sapphire and she kept dodging it, all while fighting off other men. alvida blindly swung her iron mace at the three of them as they kept dodging it. and the more she tried to hit them, the more she was pissed that they were not hurt. and the more she missed, the more her ship was getting wrecked. she even hit one of her crew members, making him fly into some supply crates. 

a man with a black bandana tried to shoot them but sapphire quickly drew one of her guns, which was strapped around her waist, underneath her light blue cardigan, and shot right at his bullet. sending it flying in a different direction. 

keeping her gun aimed at him, she smirked a little at their shocked faces. they didn't expect a dainty, fairy tale looking girl to be a gunslinger. but she was really good at what she did, obviously. luffy looked at her proudly while koby was astonished by what he saw. 

although the bullets weren't ordinary ones. they were ones she conjured up due to her magic. but at the last second, alvida swung her iron mace and almost had sapphire. but she quickly stopped it from hitting her. her free hand glowed with surrounding light blue aura as she blocked the heavy weapon from hitting her. 

alvida kept pushing down to smash her head in but sapphire kept pushing against it, using one hand to block it as she quickly placed her gun back in her holster. alvida began to notice how her eyes were starting to light up with the more they pushed at each other. sapphire forced more of her magic to push against her force even more as her other hand glowed with the same light blue aura. 

gaining the upper hand, she swung her free hand up and hit alvida's iron mace back so hard that she nearly flew back. the sight of her glowing hands and eyes were a shock to her and her crew. 

"what kind of monsters are you?" alvida panted out through her teeth. growing irritated by the fact that she couldn't hurt them. 

"the stretchy and magical kind." luffy grinned, fixing his straw hat. 

alvida just screamed in rage as she attacked them once more. and each time she did, she kept destroying her own ship. at some point, she even broke her own wheel. which caused her to growl in distress. poor koby was the nearest for her to blame. 

"you! you did this!" she screamed at him, lifting up her iron mace to hit him. he cowered, waiting for it to smash him but sapphire quickly grabbed hold of his arm, yanking him out of the way as luffy caught with his bare hands. 

 alvida managed to hit luffy with the iron mace into his rubbery head. an attack which caused koby to gasp in horror, thinking he was seriously hurt but sapphire remained calm. knowing he was going to be okay. 

it recoiled, making alvida fly back a little. causing her a slight panic. luffy fixed his hat on his head, now turning serious. as she nearly messed up his straw hat. "that's enough." he said in a cold tone. 

"you might wanna stand a few paces back." sapphire whispered to koby, gently making him take a couple steps away from luffy as he stretched his arm far back. his hand disappearing into the night. 

"gum-gum..." he mumbled, charging up his fist. "pistol!" 

soon, his fist came flying back forward. alvida stared in shock as suddenly, she was punched so hard, she was sent flying off of her own ship. her screams could be heard far and wide as in the distance, her body splashed into the dark ocean. ending her destructive tirade. 

"anyone else have a problem with koby or sapphie?" luffy asked, turning to her crew. who fearfully shook their heads no. not wanting to be next. 

sapphire squealed happily, rushing over to hug luffy. who happily lifted her up by her waist, joining her in her happy laughter. she hugged him by his neck as he wrapped his arms around her waist, setting her down. 

koby watched the two and couldn't help but notice their connection. it was as plain as day. they had complete and utter love for each other. whether they knew it or not, it was there. it made him smile a little as the two walked over to him. 

"come on, koby~" sapphire skipped over to him, breaking herself away from luffy to circle her arm around his arm. "we have to head out now. we'll need to get to land and luffy needs to eat. he gets pretty angsty when he's hungry." 

koby made a small confused noise as he just allowed her to tug him along with them to the lifeboat. "m-me?" 

"yeah!" luffy grinned, untying the lifeboat and lowering it for them to hop on. grabbing one of the oars. "you're coming with us, right?" 

koby couldn't believe it. they wanted him to go with them? was he finally free from alvida? looking back at the ship, that was now on fire due to earlier events, he smiled a little as he turned back to them. no way he was going to pass up this opportunity. with a wide smile, he climbed onto the lifeboat and never looked back. 

this was supposed to be out yesterday and i apologize for that. work was kicking my ass. 
but good news, i'm having more off days soon so i'm going to try to be more consistent with updating quicker. i know a lot of ya'll are excited for her to meet zoro. which is coming in the next chapter, don't worry.
