|07| escape plan

"Shit." Taehyung mutters, our spot turning to darkness at the turn of spotlights.

In the literal blink of an eye, he takes off his mask, pins it to my face and pushes me back.

"No you need your mask!" I whisper.

And not a moment too soon before the lights are passing again and detective Min is standing opposite. "Kim Taehyung? I... Must be tipsier than I thought." Yoongi holds his head and leans forward to blink at the man.

Once he realizes that he's in a reality he says, "Interesting. Looks like you and Hoseok have coincidentally rekindled a friendship, huh?"

"We just happened to bump into each other tonight... I'm sorry, you are?"

"Detective Min." He reaches out his hand, to which Taehyung shakes.

"Well while I have you here, I've been meaning to talk to you."

"Actually detective, I was just getting ready to leave so—"

"With Hoseok?"

Taehyung looks at Hoseok before showing the detective a friendly smile. "Actually yes. I need somewhere to stay while I'm out of town and Hoseok just offered me a place with him."

"Dude!" Hoseok hisses. Taehyung merely just blinks at him twice.

"Right. Then you should expect a visit from me soon. We'll speak properly."

It's then that I notice a certain owl-masked man in the distance blowing me a kiss, making me hit Taehyung's back rapidly.

"Uh y-yeah, sure. Catch you later. Come on bro let's go." He pulls Hoseok's arm and they walk off with me hiding behind.

Hoseok then rolls his eyes and goes back for Jungkook.

*:・゚✧*:・゚✧ 🌙

"Why did you do that?" I ask as Taehyung pulls me outside. "Now Min knows where you're staying."

"I have to show him some transparency or he'll never believe a word I say. Plus if he's going to visit me there's no use giving him a fake location. He's already seen my face. It's okay, I know what I'm doing."

"And are you sure it's safe to be walking without your mask? Lim's men have been out to kill you ever since the warehouse. If Jaebum is here this place could be crawling with them."

"Keep it on. If there are more undercover cops here we can't risk them seeing you."

Meanwhile beside us, Hoseok struggles to keep up with our pace with Jungkook slung over his shoulder. "Ugh... What does this guy eat?"

Finally we reach the line of parked cars. Behind Taehyung's SUV is a red convertible, along with a tail of others. Just when Hoseok goes to reach for the backseat handle Taehyung freezes and reaches out his hand.

"Wait! Don't touch the car."

"Huh?"

"What? Why?" Hoseok groans, "This guy's heavy you know."

Taehyung squats down low to get a view of the car's bottom. I crouch down slightly also, and that's when I see the small flashing red light. "It's a bomb." He stands straight, "Somebody doesn't want us to leave."

"Well fuck." Hoseok mutters.

Taehyung reaches into the back of his jeans only to find out that his gun is gone—

"Leaving already?"

The four of us turn to see Jaebum maskless, hand in his pocket and mouth smirking so hard it could burst into joyful laughter. Standing at each of his sides are four suited men.

Taehyung's jaw clenches, as does his grip on my hand when he slowly pushes me back.

"Kim Taehyung... Finally. After months of my men searching street by street I have you right here. You wouldn't believe I even had to kill my own boy Roberto just to string you along to one of these parties. You didn't seriously think I'd let you go without a proper goodbye, did you?"

Jaebum takes two steps forward while
Taehyung only scowls.

"What do you want from me?" He now shrugs. "It's not like I can bring him back. Your fucked up dad had it long coming and you know it."

"Watch your mouth." He growls."You of all people should know how important Dad's are Taehyung, whether they're corrupt or not. You killed my father... My blood... That kind of damage can't be excused so easily. If you think I hated you before, you're certainly not ready for the torture that's to come."

Jaebum walks back to his original position and Taehyung quickly turns to Hoseok. The two share a brief nod and I'm left in confusion.

"And since you have no way of getting home..." Jaebum faces us again with both hands in his pockets. "It looks like that day is today. Boys?"

The men by Jaebum's sides reach into their jacket—

"NOW!" Taehyung shouts. Hoseok quickly pushes Jungkook into the back of the red convertible behind our SUV, his legs flopping over the closed door before Hoseok jumps in the driver's seat. Taehyung pushes me in as well while simultaneously snatching the pistol from my thigh holster and shooting not only three of Jaebum's men, but shooting Jaebum in the shoulder.

"ARGH FUCK!"

"Tae quick get in!" Hoseok starts the car. Taehyung leaps over the door one handed, somehow missing the men's gunshots by mere inches.

"NO! SHOOT THEM! SHOOT THEM NOW!" Jaebum shouts with his hand gripped onto his bleeding wound.

But they're too slow. With our heads ducked out of range, we let the fiery rounds attack the back of our convertible as the car speeds off.

We all sit comfortably once we're at a safe distance and the first thing I see is Hoseok shaking his wrist violently whilst hyperly bouncing in his seat.

"Now THAT is what I'm talking about! Dude that was awesome!"

"Yeah I don't know what just happened —" Jungkook sits in his seat properly and lets out a drunken laugh. "But we gotta do it again!"

"The way you shot those guys without missing?! Bro!"

"You two are so... stupid..." Taehyung chuckles beside me in the back seat with his legs spread apart and head thrown back. A guilty smile lingers on his lips as he catches his breath and lets the wind rush through his bright red locks.

He then looks up at me, the two of us can't even share an innocent gaze without being bombarded by wild hair strands. "You okay?"

My smile is pulled softly, lips pressed and head tilted.

Taehyung always steps over the line just to protect me. What did I do to deserve such an amazing boyfriend?

With an ecstatic nod, I unstrap the mask from my face and throw it back into the road. My back slumps into the seat and a deep, relaxed sigh leaves my grinning lips.

"Fuck Jaebum."

*:・゚✧*:・゚✧ 🌙

The drive was fun. We cheered, we did doughnuts. It was the kind of freedom I could've only dreamed about three months ago sitting behind bars.

Once we unlock the door to the house Jimin and Winter hurry to the foyer, relieved to see us all back in one piece.

"Lilo?! Aish don't do that again! We got worried!"

"I'm sorry Jimin. I should've woken you up. I know that now." I flash a faint smile.

"Well at least you're all alright. Did you find Roberto?"

"He wasn't there." Taehyung throws down his jacket.

"Really?"

"It was a setup. Jaebum had his tracks covered."

"Oh man..." Jungkook pats the back of his jeans. "My wallet's gone."

"Are you really surprised at this point?" Hoseok sighs.

"Jungkook?" Winter's eyes brows knit when she notices the dazed look on her boyfriend's face, as well as the sway in his body. She stands in front of him to hold his cheeks.

"How much did you drink and... What's that on your neck?" She points to the black lipstick stain.

Jungkook quickly tilts his head and rubs the skin to see the black makeup smeared along his fingers.

"Are you fucking serious?" Winter pushes him and immediately storms upstairs.

"Babe I ssWear I didN't Do Anything!"

"I don't have the energy for this. Sleep on the couch."

"Win..."

"No Jungkook I'm tired just stay downstairs—"

"But I'm nOt evEn ddrUnk—"

"I swear to God—"

The two continue to bicker and shove their way to their room. Jungkook sloppily chases after his raven-haired girlfriend before there's a slam at their door.

"I'm sure they'll make up." Hoseok yawns. "I'm going to bed too. Catch you in the morning. Well... morning morning."

"Same here." Jimin goes back to his setup in the living room, "Goodnight."

Once everyone's parted, there's a silence between Taehyung and I. I feel bad about sneaking out and putting us all at risk like that. I should've listened to him and stayed put.

I turn to him and lay a hand on his arm, "Tae—"

"Agh..." He holds his temple and clenches his teeth, as if an intense migraine had struck him.

"Whoa are you okay?"

"Yeah just... gonna wash up before bed."

Before I can agree, he's already heading upstairs.

*:・゚✧*:・゚✧ 🌙

I washed up in the guest room shower since Taehyung was using ours. Once I'm in pyjamas, I go back to our room and rest on the bed.

Taehyung comes out of the bathroom with a robe and a towel ruffling his wet, once again brunette, hair. His eyebrows jump when I surprise him with my presence.

"What's with that look?"

"You're mad at me, right?" I ask.

"Why would I be mad?"

"I snuck out. Jaebum saw us and now he'll want to kill you more than ever. He could be snitching on us right now, and if so then it's all my fault."

He releases a breath, puts down the towel and changes into some blue and white striped pyjamas.

"I'm not mad I'm just... That was dangerous. I mean walking into a crowd of people like that? Without a mask? By yourself? It's like you want to be back in jail."

"Of course I don't. But I couldn't stay cooped up in the house forever. In case you're forgetting I just spent two months doing that already." I sigh and hug my knees. "I was just trying to warn you..."

Finally he turns off the light and joins me on the bed. His hand cups my jaw.

"Don't worry, he's bluffing anyway. There's no way Jaebum would tell the cops I did it and let them have me, he wants me all to himself." He pecks me on the lips. "Otherwise he would have done it already." He pecks me again. "Just be more careful from now on. I can't lose you."

"I know. I'm sorry. I won't leave again."

He nods with a sweet smile, but that smile falls almost unnoticeably when I notice his hand shaking.

"Your h—"

Taehyung cuts my sentence short by locking my breath into his lips and holding my cheek. The kiss is slow, sensual...

His body slowly curves at the prop of his elbow until he's nearly on top of me. He reaches for the covers and gently pulls it over our bodies, his lips and tongue not breaking from mine. I wrap my arm around his neck to bring his warmth even closer.

"I kinda wish..." He whispers against my lips in a groggy voice, "You left the costume on."

I giggle and continue the kiss. My fingers target his buttoned shirt and begin to make their way down. He releases another breath against my lips and just stares at them as I admire the depth in his orbs.

"Li, baby, I know you're not good at it but you're gonna have to be quiet."

"Shut it."

*:・゚✧*:・゚✧ ☀️
—NEXT AFTERNOON—

"Anddd one for you." Jimin presents me with a fresh breakfast.

"Aw Jimin you didn't have to."

"No no it's my turn to make breakfast for everyone. What better than some bacon and waffles?"

"Mmm." I hum my first bite. Everyone else seems to be enjoying it too.

"So..." Jimin's eye's side to Taehyung. "How'd you sleep last night?"

Taehyung's gaze shoots up from his food that he seemed to be lost in. He furrows his eyebrows and shrugs, "Uh... Good?"

"Mhm." Jimin nods and sneaks a smirk to Hoseok who giggles behind his fork. My cheeks blush immediately. I knew I could hear giggling by the door last night...

I slump my head in my hands and hum a groan while Taehyung tuts his teeth.

"You two are such little girls."

"Well if you two were gonna bang you could have at least invited Winter and I to tag along." Jungkook chimes in from down the table.

"Shut up." She says.

"Yeah shut up." Taehyung stuffs his mouth.

She gets up to wash her dish and Jungkook tilts his head, "Oh come on. You're still mad at me?"

"YES. Why should I be cool when you can't even give me a proper explanation?"

"But I'm not lying! I didn't even flirt with anyone last night."

"Yeah well until you can come up with something better you can forget about our deal."

"Deal?" I ask.

"Jungkook wanted to get matching tattoos like you and Taehyung."

"Which we're still doing."

"Hmph." Winter scrubs her dish more aggressively.

"Aw that's so cute, what tattoos?"

"We agreed she'd put Kookie on her—"

"Uh, no actually we didn't."

"I've never seen a couple fight so much." Jimin laughs.

"Yeah we're going through our little kinks but what couple doesn't? Am I right?" Jungkook spanks Winter on the ass. She instantly swats him and he flinches.

"So dude, when are you gonna tell us what happened to your hand?" Hoseok points with his fork.

Taehyung slowly hides it behind his other arm and resumes eating. I turn to him with a tilted head, "Yeah, you said you'd tell me how you hurt it—"

"Cut my finger with a kitchen knife."

"So you bandaged your whole hand?"

He groans under his breath. "It's no big deal."

"Then if it's no big deal just tell me." I try to pass the sentence off as a friendly chuckle.

*Ding dong!*

"I'll get it. Probably a package." Hoseok gets up.

My expression turns more serious. "Tae why can't you just tell me the truth?"

"And why can't you just drop it?" He snaps.

Everyone goes silent. My eyebrows knit in offense but before I can continue the topic—

"Oh, Officer Min! I-I forgot you were coming!"

"Well I'm here. Do I smell breakfast?" His footsteps grow closer.

Everyone in the room looks at me with wide eyes.

Right before Officer Min enters the kitchen, Taehyung quickly shoves me under the table.

"Taehyung. Nice to see you again."

"A-and you detective."

"You can call me Yoongi. Who are your friends?"

"Oh, this is Jimin, that's Jungkook and over there is Winter." Hoseok points.

"I see. Well it's good I caught you all—" Min pulls a chair to sit down with his legs just inches from Lilo. Hoseok quickly grabs his arm. "Y-you know Offi— Yoongi, we should probably talk outside by the pool. It's a really pretty pool."

"Uhh... Sure."

Once Hoseok leads him away, Taehyung quickly pats me with his foot before following them. I hurry to the foyer and hide in the closet that barely gets opened. If I run upstairs, they'll hear me.

"That was close."

*Crunch!*

I look down at the floor in confusion as to where the sound came from. It's then that I feel a horrific numbing pain beneath me. Lifting up my foot, a shard of glass poke out of the skin of my sole.

I hiss pain-filled whispers and hold my foot to watch the blood draw. Shit... Why the hell is there loose glass just lying around?

I carefully pinch my fingers and draw out the foreign shard when I spot another piece on the floor... And another...

Slowly following the short trail, I'm lead to a wrapped up picture frame of some sort. It's not until I lift the paper that I realize the object is a broken mirror.

Wait...

I flashback Taehyung's bloody hand when he got out of bed that morning, and how it was drenched in blood with glass all over his knuckles. The bandages...

Did... Did Taehyung punch this mirror while I was asleep?

I peak through the small gap in the door and watch everybody talk by the beach beds, my focus lingering solely on Taehyung who nods at the detective as if everything were perfectly normal. My eyebrows and lips fall into a frown... What is he hiding?

—ELSEWHERE—
—AUTHOR'S POV—

The room is large, round and luxurious. In the center stands a girl with long, straight black hair and bangs that hood her dark, smoky makeup. She wears black knee-high boots, leather pants and a long sleeve turtleneck that's cut out at the front to reveal some chest, a single buckle crossing over the skin. Her legs rattle and lips tremble as she stares patiently at the man in front of her. Beads of sweat form on the girl's forehead the more the room is drowned with silence.

He sits in a chair with crossed legs and a wine glass in his hand, wearing an immaculate white suit.

The man leans forward to observe the girl's appearance better.

"Speak." He orders.

She looks around nervously, swallows a balloon down her throat and parts her lips.

"M-m-my n-name is—"

"Too high pitched." Jaebum leans back and shoots her in the head. Her lifeless body drops and all that is left is a net of blood on the wall.

"Bring the next one."

He sips his beverage while a guard drags the girl out of the room and another is dragged in. Her hair, makeup and clothes are exactly the same. Skin pale like the previous girl's, but nose is noticeably wider.

"P-p-please don't hurt me! I-I have a d-daughter a-and school, and tennis class and—!"

"Quiet." He demands. The girl instantly sqeauls and shuts her eyes with tight lips. Jaebum stands from his seat and examines her shaky form. "Weight and height is the best match I've seen all day. Nose is a little big... Nothing surgery can't take care of."

He looks at the girl with dark eyes.

"Got any tattoos?"

She shakes her head.

"Birthmarks?"

"I... I-I have a patch on my thig—"

"Ah... That's a problem." He reaches for the gun.

"N-NO PLEASE—!"

She's shot in the head. The guards behind leap to catch her body in time before she can hit the ground, then they drag her out.

Jaebum falls back into his seat and rubs his temple. That was the twenty-fourth girl and still he couldn't find the perfect match. It was really starting to piss him off.

"S-sir..." A guard stands with his hands clasped.

With his hand by his temple, Jaebum looks up with an infuriated glare and the man licks his lips.

"F-finding an exact match of someone can be near impossible. Why not just find somebody new?"

Jaebum groans.

"Because, idiot, if I'm going to kill Kim I can't just work with anybody, I have standards. We'll keep rounding up girls until we find the perfect one. That bastard will pay for what he did."

"But sir can't you try—"

"NO BECAUSE I ONLY WANT SEULGI!" He slams his fist onto the coffee table and his empty wine glass bounces off the side before smashing on the marble floor.

The man gulps and looks down. Jaebum sighs and throws his head back exhaustingly.

"Go. Get out. You're irritating me." He flops his hand lazily.

He immediately scurries out the room and Jaebum does nothing but rest his hand on his shut lids. That's when he flashbacks to the warehouse. The ash-sanded floor... The putrid burning smell...

Her gaze when she stabbed him. Her gaze when he stabbed her.

And then, their kiss. The most touching kiss they ever shared was the one they spent dying.

Ever since that moment, Jaebum hadn't been able to get the sensation of her lips off his mind. His jaw tightens before he walks over to his desk. He then opens the bottom drawer and inside lies a black and red gun with checkers on it. Stroking his fingers along the shiny metal, he lets a tear trace his eye.

"That's it." He grumbles. "Mark!"

His guard runs back in with arms behind his back.

"We're taking a trip."

*:・゚✧*:・゚✧ 🌙

Jaebum and his guards storm into the morgue in groups with guns blazing for anyone who tried to stop them. An old man runs into the hallway and is immediately grabbed by the collar.

"Which room?!" He yells.

"W-who are you looking for??"

"Urgh— Kang Seulgi you hag! Where is she?!"

"R-r-r-room number—!"

"Boss! We found her!" The guards shouts. Jaebum looks back at the old man and pushes him against the wall before running down the hallway.

He stops abruptly when he reaches the room. Lying on one of the body trays is Seulgi's body. Her face is pale with a blue undertone and lips are greyed out, not their usual berry red tint. The natural dark shadow that tops her eyes was now fogged into nothingness.

Jaebum slowly hovers over her with a hand running through her hair. He admires every one of her features as if they were still lively and tilts his head. For the first time ever, Jaebum regretted something he did.

He leans down until their noses are side by side and finally, kisses her longingly.

The guards just watch as his lips tuck between hers and linger there before leaving a small smack. He strokes her hair and chuckles, whispering,

"We're going to paint this town red, Seulg."
