BONUS CHAPTER : Q+A!
I got lazy so we only did half the questions, but we'll do a part two later! Happy holidays you angels <3
QUESTION ONE: Soma, how would you describe Coriolanus in five words?
Oooh, what an interesting question. He can't read this, can he? No? Splendid, all right.
I think I would describe him as aloof. He's very cold. Also calculating, everything he does is for a motive, which isn't necessarily bad, but Coryo's got some very cunning plans. He's deceptive, too, because when you first meet him he seems quite polite and charming, albeit awkward. He certainly is not, though his acting skills are improving. Brava, Coryo.
So far, what have I got? Aloof, calculating, deceptive... personally I think he's quite selfish, as well. He's gone through great lengths to save his own skin, and you would not believe it. Clever, that he pulled it off, but just stomach-squelchingly cruel.
Hmm. I suppose my final word would be-- how do they stay it in your world? Fucked?
Yes. Coryo is also fucked. I shan't spoil anything, but I do intend to bring him and his aloof, calculating, deceptive, selfish empire crashing down around me. I will make him pay in blood and bones.
Next?
QUESTION TWO: Tigris, do you ship Coriolanus and Soma?
The sound of growls, snarls, and hair-raising hisses. Among them is a barely distinguishable No.
QUESTION THREE: Coriolanus, what are three things you would take with you on a deserted island?
A hovercraft, a navigation system, and several gallons of water.
SOMA: Coryo, you silly thing, that's not how you play.
CORIOLANUS: Play? I wasn't aware this was a game.
S: You're supposed to figure out how to survive on the island.
C: Why would I survive when I could just leave? Is that not survival? Did I not win?
S: You don't win, Coryo.
C: And yet you claim this is a game.
S: A mental game. I-- never mind. Next!
QUESTION FOUR: Mags, how did you and Soma meet?
That's a real sweet question. Soma was sent to District Four as an ambassador, but we all know what that really means. But you and I both know that Soma's a rebel, and she couldn't do a thing she was told in her life.
Soma was staying at the mayor's house, since it's the cosiest, and the mayor's son and I happened to be friends. I came over one night to hang out, and Soma ran into us in the hallway and asked if we liked sewing.
I hate sewing. Caspian loves sewing, especially clothes, so he dragged me along after her. I was mad, I can't lie, but when we got there, Soma had shredded her entire closet to make these tiny little cloth dolls of Lucy Gray, if you remember her from the last Hunger Games. Well, how could you not?
So me and Soma and Caspian stayed up all night making hundreds of little Lucy Grays, with little rainbow skirts, and even some snakes to go with them. The next day we gave them to all the little ones in the town.
And then Soma and I had to go find her some new clothes to replace the torn-up ones, which is a whole other adventure.
QUESTION FIVE: Decimus, what was your first impression of Soma? And how did you two meet?
When I first met Soma, it was at a party hosted by one of the Academy members. She was not supposed to be there. Figures she wormed her way in anyhow.
It was a looser party than a high-society function, so everybody was a little tipsy and off their kilter. I was sitting in a chair when I saw a pretty girl, and offered to buy her a drink. We had our night, and I thought nothing of it.
Then, a week later, I ran into the very same girl at the Plinth's party. She handed me a stack of books, apologised for taking them, and flounced off. Apparently, Soma had taken my Academy books after our night so she could study.
I was both furious and, though I wouldn't admit it then, impressed. The next time I saw her, I gave her my books from last year. Now she appears on campus, which is illegal, to pester me.
Suffice to say, the way I felt when I first met Soma is the way I still feel: Annoyance.
QUESTION SIX: Coriolanus, what made you fall for Soma when you were younger?
CORIOLANUS: I refuse to answer.
LYDIA: It's fine, she's not going to read it.
C: But they will!
L: We only have a few readers, it's not that big.
LYDIA winks behind his back.
C:
C: Fine. But you owe me.
L: Yeah, yeah, whatever.
Sejanus and I were never friends, though he was under the delusion that we were. He followed me everywhere, and constantly put himself in positions that I had to rescue him from. At a certain point, we were becoming associated, and his reputation became linked with mine.
Soma would constantly bother Sejanus for his textbooks. He would refuse. He didn't want her to learn the 'Captiol propaganda' that he was, for fear that she would become one of them. Soma was furious, because her intent was to 'study the enemy and bring 'em down from the inside'.
When Sejanus wouldn't help her, Soma turned to me. I refused as well. But instead of backing down, Soma pushed harder. Maybe she thought I would crack. Maybe she just enjoyed fighting me. Perhaps I enjoyed fighting her as well.
We debated long into the night. I told her that if she could convince me of a flaw in the system of fear, she could have my books. Day after day we screamed and threw things and laughed until we turned red.
A month into our verbal sparring, Soma brought me to the basement, where she often worked out. Instead of fighting with our words, we were going to fight with our fists. At the same time.
It was as ludicrous as it sounds, but she had caught me so off-guard, the words were hers. She pinned me to the floor and demanded the books. I refused. She laughed, like always, and it infuriated me. She ended up on the floor instead of me.
I did not fall for her. But she was attractive, and she was intelligent, and furthermore cunning. We initiated a relationship of sorts. Sejanus never knew, nobody did. As much as Soma was intriguing, she was still everything I stood against. She still is.
QUESTION SEVEN: Soma, have you ever considered joining the mafia?
SOMA: What's the mafia?
LYDIA: It's an underground network of criminals. They typically work internationally, but there can be neighborhood-bound mafias as well.
S: Ooooh.
Would I join the mafia? Perhaps, it depends on what I'm feeling. It also depends on the means, the direction, and the action. As much as Coryo denies, I am not a thug for sake of thuggery. I'm an imp for sake of irritation.
I'd only like to join if I could lead it.
QUESTION EIGHT: Soma, did you have any other lovers before Snow? Specifically in District Four?
These are deliciously invasive questions, I do love them. Well, Decimus and I were together once, but we're quite better off as friends. I do love to flirt shamelessly with him, though, because it makes him boil.
I've had a few other lovers, but they were all of the same consequence. One night, perhaps a second, but nobody interesting.
In District Four, I was much more concerned with having a good time with Mags and Caspian. And while I do confess I love a man glistening under the sun, freshly emerged from the sea like a shipwrecked pirate, I was a little occupied with revenge-related matters. District Four is where I did my scheming, not my sleeping.
I'd tell you more, but apparently it's being kept under wraps until the book is done. Pay close attention, then.
