chapter twenty-five: developing the cures

You, Michelle, and Ned arrived at the rooftop of Midtown Science & Technology to see a grieving Peter. "Peter..." Peter turned his head to the side to see you in a new pair of clothes and wearing Ned's jacket with a band-aid at the side of your head. "(Y/n)—" You immediately sat beside him and embraced him, cutting his sentence off.

Peter broke into tears as he leaned to your touch until he felt Michelle and Ned hugging him as well. Peter sobbed as he held your arms, lowering his head down. Ned felt a tear slip away from hearing his best friend crying while Michelle hugged Peter closer as she knew how much pain he was feeling.

"I'm so sorry..." You whispered, leaning your head to his as a tear rolled down from your eye. Peter paused for a moment when he sensed something causing him to lift his head up while Michelle and Ned pulled away. "Peter, there's..." You stuttered. "...there are some people here." You whispered.

"What?" You, Peter, Michelle, and Ned stood while Peter stepped in front, prepared to protect you and his friends. He looked up to see two people on top, looking down at him. The two other Peters jumped down, and Peter raised his arm. "Hey. Wait, wait, woah!"

The two Peters raised their hands. "Sorry..." The older Peter (TM) spoke up. "About May."

"Yeah." The other Peter (AG) spoke up as well. "Sorry. I got some understanding of what you're going through..."

Peter shook his head. "No, no. Please don't tell me that you know what I'm going through." He breathed heavily.

The other Peter (AG) nodded in understanding. "Okay."

"She's gone. It's all my fault. She died for nothing." You looked down as Peter continued talking. "So I'm gonna do what I should've done in the first place."

Peter was about to grab the ancient relic from Michelle, and the older Peter (TM) tried to stop him. "Peter..."

Peter shook his head. "Please, don't." He pleaded. "You don't belong here. Either of you, so I'm sending you home. Those other guys are from your worlds, right?"

The other Peter (AG) nodded wordlessly. "So you deal with it," Peter replied. "If they die, if you kill them... that's on you. It's not my problem. I don't care anymore. I'm done."

Peter stared at his two alternate versions of himself and sighed deeply. "I'm really sorry that I dragged you into this. But you have to go home now. Good luck."

Michelle moved the ancient relic away from Peter and shook her head. You placed your hand above Peter's shoulder and gave him a look, glancing at the two Peters.

"My Uncle Ben was killed." The older Peter (TM) stated. "It was my fault."

"I lost..." The other Peter (AG) spoke up, tears welling up his eyes. "I lost Gwen. My... she was my everything." He choked out. "I couldn't save her. I'm never gonna be able to forgive myself for that."

The other Peter (AG) took a deep breath. "But I carried on. I tried to... tried to keep going. Tried to keep being the... friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, because I knew that's what she would have wanted. But..." He exhaled shakily. "At some point, I just... I stopped pulling my punches. I got rageful. I got bitter. I just don't want you to end up like... like me."

"The night Ben died," The older Peter (TM) began. "I hunted down the man who I thought did it. I wanted him dead. I got what I wanted. It didn't make it better."

The older Peter (TM) shook his head as he thought for a moment. "It took me a long time to... learn to get through
that darkness."

"I wanna kill him," Peter confessed. "I wanna tear him apart. I can still hear her voice in my head." Peter began crying again as he held your hand tight. "Even after she was hurt, she said to me that we did the right thing. She told me that with great power..."

The older Peter's (TM) eyes widened. "Comes great responsibility." He finished Peter's sentence.

Peter gasped while the older Peter (TM) glanced at the other Peter (AG), who nodded. "Wait, what?" Peter asked. "How do you know that?"

"Uncle Ben said it." The other Peter (AG) answered. "The day he died." The older Peter (TM) added. "Maybe she didn't die for nothing, Peter."

"Okay, so uh..." You gave Peter the bag full of things to cure the bad guys. You, Peter, Ned, Michelle, and the two other Peters decided to use the science lab of Midtown High to prepare for their final battle with the villains, creating and finishing anti-serums against them. "Connors, Marko, Dillon, and..."

Peter slammed Norman's empty syringe to the side, daring not to say his name. "Look, I think that I can repair the devices for Dillon and Marko, but the others..."

"I could help with Dillon." You volunteered. "He's using the Arc Reactor, Peter. We could both work on that."

Peter nodded and smiled at you. "Thanks, (Y/n)."

"Well, I got Connors." The other Peter (AG) said as he put on a laboratory coat. "I've already cured him once, so no big deal." He froze when his two alternate versions stared at him. "What? It's no big deal."

You chuckled while the older Peter (TM) shrugged and smiled. "Great." Peter nodded along. "Yeah. That's great."

The other Peter (AG) paused for a moment before looking for a place to start working on Connors' cure. The older Peter (TM) grabbed the empty syringe. "I think I can make an anti-serum for Dr. Osborn." He told Peter, who was looking down at it hesitantly. "Been thinking about it a long time."

The older Peter (TM) looked at his younger version of himself and noticed how he was glaring intensely at Norman's syringe. "Gotta cure all of them. Right?"

Peter reluctantly nodded. "Right."

"That's what we do."

Peter thought for a while before turning his attention to you, who were admiring him and his other versions. "What?" He asked. You motioned your head to him and the other two Peters as you smiled. "It's just... I'm seeing three Peter Parkers right now. It's wild."

Peter cracked a smile and chuckled softly. Oh, how you've missed seeing him smile. You tapped on the table and took out a laptop for you and Peter to share. "So, let's get this thing started."

You sat on the other side of the table beside Michelle to help you fix Max's cure. Ned panted your back from behind and smiled. "So glad you're here, (Y/n)."

You tilted your head as you smiled. "Why's that?"

"I think the only thing that keeps him sane is you." Ned smiled back. You stifled a laugh and patted his arm. "I think we keep him sane." You motioned your head to the other two Peters. "Those two helped."

Ned nodded before walking away to help the three Peters. You began working on Max's cure as Michelle moved closer to you. "Remember when this was about our college admissions?"

You chuckled. "Damn, I almost forgot about that." You continued to type while glancing at the device to help Max. "You need to give us every single donut you have in the shop you're working on after all of this is over."

Michelle slightly laughed. "I don't have enough money to buy every donut there, (Y/n)."

"My treat." You smirked. "I'll even buy the whole shop and get you a nicer boss. Just promise me I get to have all the cookies."

"Sometimes I forget that you're freakin' rich."

Ned sat down on a swivel chair and sat between the two other Peters. "So... do you have a best friend too?" Ned asked the older Peter (TM).

"I did." The older Peter (TM) replied.

Ned's expression changed. "You did?"

"He died in my arms. After he tried to kill me." The older Peter (TM) explained, catching the attention of the other Peter (AG). "It was heartbreaking."

Ned blinked his eyes in fear and surprise before glancing at the other Peter. He stood up and hesitantly approached his best friend while Peter remained unbothered. "Will you, um, run a diagnostic?" Peter instructed.

"Okay." Ned started typing on the laptop as he stayed a bit distant from Peter. After finishing the diagnostic, Ned lingered for a moment before walking away hurriedly, leaving Peter confused.

You stood up from your seat and gave Peter the device for Max. "Hey, you okay?" You asked as you sat down next to him.

Peter nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." He pulled out your lily necklace from his pocket and handed it to you. "I managed to fix it back at Happy's apartment, but the suit isn't fully charged."

You softly gasped. "Peter, oh, my..." You smiled at him. "Thank you..." You lifted your arms to wear the necklace, but Peter helped you instead. You felt his fingers lightly brushing on your neck as he locked the chain. "There. Better."

Peter moved closer to you and lifted his arm, brushing his fingers to the side of your head. "Are you okay? What happened?" He glanced at the hand mark on your neck.

You shook your head. "You don't want to know."

"Come on..."

You clutched your hands to him as you looked down. "He... um..." Peter immediately knew who you were referring to. "No. He got you?"

"I escaped."

"And he did this?"

"It's nothing, Peter."

"No, it's not nothing." Peter cupped your cheeks, and you practically melted in his touch. "Two Norman Osborns have completely hurt you, (Y/n). I promised to keep you away from harm but... I failed to do that..." You held his hand as you stared into his eyes while Peter sighed heavily. "You were right about him. I didn't even know why I bothered helping him when the Norman in this universe has already caused you so much pain and trauma."

"Peter..."

"You don't deserve this." Peter shook his head as he dropped his hands down to your lap. "I ruined your life..."

"Hey." It was your turn to cup his cheeks. "No, no, no, no, no. You didn't. If anything, you made my life better. You're my everything, Peter Parker."

When Peter refused to look you in the eyes, you forced him. "Look at me." You whispered. "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. We're gonna get through this, and we're going to get through it together. Okay?"

Peter nodded, his eyes flooding with tears again. He was so tired of crying, but he wanted to let it all out. "Okay." He whispered back, leaning his forehead to yours as you both close your eyes. "Thank you." He whispered, almost inaudible, but you were glad to hear it.

The other Peter (AG) stared at you and Peter with sadness filling in his eyes, not from afar. The older Peter (TM) turned around and saw his other self staring at you and Peter. "You have someone?" He asked.

The other Peter (AG) shook his head, stifling a laugh. "No." He sighed heavily. "I got no time for Peter Parker stuff, you know?" He stared at his older alternate self for a moment. "Do you?"

"Uhh..." The older Peter (TM) replied. "It's a little... complicated."

"No, I understand. I guess it's just not in the cards for guys like us."

"Well... I wouldn't give up. Took a while, but... we made it work."

The other Peter (AG) smiled. "Yeah?"

"Yeah." The older Peter (TM) nodded. "Me and... MJ." The other Peter (AG) blinked in surprise and confusion. The older Peter (TM) realized what he had said. "My MJ. She, uh..." He sighed. "It gets confusing here, huh?"

The other Peter (AG) nodded, chuckling with his older version. He continued doing his work until he looked back at you when you smiled. "Y-You said... there was a (Y/n) Osborn in your universe, right?"

The older Peter (TM) nodded. "Yeah."

"Can you believe it? A (Y/n) ended up with a Peter Parker in this universe."

Peter began working back and gave you a small praising comment about what you did on Max's cure. You grinned in return and leaned your head against his shoulder, looking at the two other Peters who were still talking to each other.

"I never thought that would happen." The older Peter (TM) sighed. "You know, the (Y/n) ending up dating like me or... well, us."

The other Peter (AG) chuckled. "I sort of did. I had a crush on her when we were both young. We were friends with her brother. We used to play outside or at their home and sometimes... I would play as her knight in shining armor." He stifled a laugh when he remembered an old memory.

"Don't you want a prince, (Y/n)?"

"No, I want a knight in shining armor because I know he would save me!"

"I've always thought of her as my soulmate." The other Peter (AG) stated. "She moved abroad with her brother before high school. Now, I wonder if she could still remember me."

You raised your eyebrows in surprise while the older Peter (TM) sighed heavily. "I never got the chance to say goodbye."

"To who?"

"To my (Y/n)." The older Peter (TM) replied. "After she told me she was going to help Norman in Oscorp for an experiment, I never saw her again."

"Where are you going?"

"I'm helping my father with an experiment. Wish us luck, Parker!"

Peter heard what the older Peter (TM) said, causing him to hold your hand tighter. The other Peter (AG) froze in his seat. "Wait, so... she's..."

"Gone? Yeah." The older Peter (TM) nodded. "Norman adored his adopted daughter more than his own son. The old man was devastated after what happened."

"Weird." The other Peter (AG) whispered. "The Norman in my universe didn't really give a shit about his adopted daughter."

"So, in the end." You spoke up, earning the attention of the two other Peters. "Norman Osborn and I were never meant to be in the same place together. Whether we actually have a good relationship or not, it doesn't mater because either I die or sent away?"

The older Peter (TM) smiled warmly at you. "I think you got a better life here, (Y/n). I heard your friend said you're rich."

You smiled back at him. "It's my father's money."

"That was inherited to you, your sister, and your mother," Peter added as he smirked at you. "So, yeah. You're rich."

"Rich or not, I'm glad to see you well." The older Peter (TM) told you. "I'd be lying if I said that seeing you did not make miss (Y/n) in my universe."

The other Peter (AG) nodded. "Yeah, me too."

You smiled at the two Peters before looking back at your Peter. The older Peter (TM) grabbed a tool and lightly nudged his younger variant. "Maybe if you get back, you could have another chance in love. And this time, with your (Y/n)."

"My... what?" The other Peter (AG) stared at his older self for a moment, thinking about what he would do if he ever saw you in his universe again. He unknowingly smiled, causing the older Peter (TM) to grin.

"Peter?" Ned spoke up, catching the three Peters' attentions. "Yeah?" The three of them said in unison. "Oh, sorry. You mean..."

You started laughing while Michelle cracked a smile. "Oh, uh..." Ned began to stutter. "Peter-Peter."

'We're all called Peter, Ned."

"Peter Parker?" You covered your mouth as you laughed harder from Ned's struggle and the three Peters' confusion.

"Same."

"We're all Peter Parker."

"The computer!" Ned exclaimed in frustration.

Peter walked towards the laptop. "Oh, I'm ready."

"Yeah, me too." The other Peter (AG) replied as he walked towards his younger version. "Okay, so... now, all we gotta do is lure these guys someplace, right? Try to cure them while they try..." He sighed. "...to kill us, and then, send them home."

"Using a magic box?" The older Peter (TM) asked who stood beside the other Peter. The other Peter (AG) gave Peter the antidote for Connors. Peter nodded. "Well, that's the plan."

You remained in your seat as you stared at the other Peters in amusement. "So are you gonna go into battle dressed as a cool youth pastor, or do you got your suit?" The other Peter (AG) asked his older self. The older Peter (TM) smirked and hooked his finger down on his shirt, revealing his suit. The other Peter (AG) nodded. "Good."

Ned walked towards his best friend and handed him his web cartridges while the other Peter began to strip his laboratory coat. "Here's your web cartridges."

Peter smiled and kindly took them. "Oh, thanks, Ned." He gave a few ones for the other Peter.

The older Peter (TM) furrowed his eyebrows in surprise and confusion. "What's that for?"

"It's my web fluid," Peter answered. "It's for my web-shooters. Why?"

The older Peter (TM) tilted his head in wonder before shooting a web nearby without using any web-shooters. "Woah!" All of you, excluding the older Peter, exclaimed in surprise. You gasped and stared at his arm in amazement. "That came out of you?" You and Ned asked in unison.

"Yeah." The older Peter (TM) looked at his two versions. "You can't do that, huh?"

Peter immediately shook his head. "No."

The other Peter (AG) stepped closer to the older Peter in shock. "How on Earth is that..." He whispered.

"Anyway," Peter began talking. "We're getting sidetracked." He showed the place where the battle should happen. "Look, this is where we're gonna do this, okay? It's isolated, so no one should get hurt. We draw them there with the box; it's the one thing they all want. All we have to do is figure out how we're gonna get there."

"Oh, we can portal there," Ned suggested, smiling widely.

You blinked in surprise while Peter looked at Ned. "What?" He asked in confusion.

"I'm magic now."

Michelle nodded. "Yeah, no, no. He's right. He can. He can."

"Yeah, we saw him." The older Peter (TM) replied.

"Yeah. He is." The other Peter (AG) nodded.

You gasped. "Wait, really?"

Ned moved closer to you and Peter. "Dude, I got Doctor Strange magic."

"What?" Peter gasped in delight.

"Yeah!"

Seeing Peter's eyes glint in excitement and amazement made you miss how things were before. You missed how he gets easily excited around Legos, Star Wars, old movies, or even discussing anything about Tony Stark. But you knew that after all of this was over, everything will change.

"And I promise you..." Ned spoke up as he removed his safety goggles. "I won't turn into a supervillain and try to kill you."

Peter's smile faded, and he was rather confused and surprised after hearing Ned's words. The other Peter (AG) nodded and patted Ned's back proudly. "Okay..." Peter said unsurely. "Thank you. Um..."

Peter stared at Ned before looking at his other variants, but he looked back at Ned while you and Michelle looked at both of them in puzzlement. "Alright. Here goes nothing." Peter faced Michelle. "What's that thing you always say? If you expect disappointment..."

Michelle shook her head. "No, no, no... We're gonna kick some ass." She smiled.

You and Peter smiled at her. "Okay."

"Cure." The older Peter (TM) corrected. "Cure some ass."

Ned nodded along. "Cure that ass."
