THE DESCENT

Elena walked into Stefan's bedroom, looking for him.

"Stefan?" She called.

She looked around his room and still couldn't see him.

"Stefan" She called again.

"You're standing right behind me, aren't you?" She said.

"Yep" Stefan replied.

She turned around and kissed him, after a few seconds they pulled apart and smiled at each other.

"Good morning" He smiled.

"I don't want us to be apart anymore. Ever" She told him.

"Me neither, but—" He began.

"Don't ruin the moment" She interrupted, kissing him again.

He pulled away again and sighed.

"You're about to ruin the moment aren't you" She said.

"I'm totally ruining the moment. Look I- I can't just pretend everything's okay" He told her.

"Katherine's locked away in the tomb" She reminded him before walking around his room.

"I know, but we still have this pressing little issue of you being Klaus's human sacrifice"

"Yes, but Elijah promised me to keep me and everyone else safe as long as we played by his rules"

"Right. As long as you played by his rules"

"Please don't go after Isobel"

"Katherine said Isobel could have some answers and I just have a couple questions, that's all"

"Stefan, I made a deal with Elijah" She said before taking a sip of her drink.

"Right, you made a deal with him. I didn't make one. You should keep your deal"

"Stefan, I don't want anyone else to get hurt"

"When have I ever wanted somebody to get hurt?"

"Vervain. I made it light" She said, passing him a drink.

He went to take it but she pulled away.

"But are you sure? Just because Katherine built up a tolerance—" She began.

"Yes. Bottoms up" He interrupted before drinking it.

He started coughing and Elena started rubbing his back.

"You okay?" She asked.

"Yeah"

"How can Elijah compel another vampire?"

"He's an original. I don't really know what that means. I don't think anybody really knows what that means. Well, except maybe Isobel. I'll be sure to ask her"

She went to say something but Stefan kissed her.

Once he pulled away he walked out.

Damon was with Rose.

"I was born in 1450, that makes me 560 years old" Rose said.

"Well, if you were a bottle of wine" He said, holding a blood bag.

"So I can die, I've lived long enough"

"If you're gonna be maudlin, I'm just gonna kill you myself. Just to put me out of your misery. Come on, it's just a little werewolf bite" He said pouring the blood bag into a glass.

"Just a little fatal-to-a-vampire werewolf bite"

"Well, according to legend, which is a notoriously unreliable source"

"Drink up" He said, passing her the glass of blood.

"Blood heals" He adds.

She took a sip and Damon looked at her.

"Yeah. It does feel like it's working" She told him, honestly.

"Let's have a look. Come on. Let me see" He said before pulling the back of her top down to look at her werewolf bite.

"How is it" She asked.

"Uh, definitely better" He lied.

"Right Bella, Elena" He said.

The two girls looked at it and Damon nodded towards Rose.

Rose then turned around to look at the two girls.

"Um..." Bella began.

"It's not bad" Elena finished.

"Where's Stefan?" Damon asked.

"He left. I need you to talk to him. He's convinced he had to find Isobel, but I think that's gonna upset Elijah"

"No can do. I'm with Stefan on this one. But if you two could play nurse for a little while"

"It's not necessary" Rose told the two girls.

"It is necessary. Elena's a do-gooder. And Bella loves to help everyone. It's in their nature. They just can't resist" Damon told them before leaving.

Elena smiled at Rose before walking to Damon, leaving Bella alone with Rose.

Bella sat down next to Rose and rubbed her back.

"You'll be okay Rose" Bella smiled.

"No I won't" Rose said.

"Don't say that"

Before either of them got to say anything Elena walked back in and sat down.

Caroline was talking to a girl when she saw Tyler.

She walked up to him.

"How are you feeling?" She asked him.

"I'm okay. Sore. I mean, every muscle aches"

"You did it. You know, you— Your first full moon and you didn't hurt anyone. It'll get easier. You'll get better at it, you'll learn to control it and it won't hurt so much"

"Well, we don't know any of that for sure"

"No, but small victories, Tyler. Last night was a victory. You know, let's take it" She said, making them both laugh.

"Look, I really wanna thank you. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't been there"

"Um, yeah, anyway, um, next month, we should probably, uh, reinforce the wall because i mean you almost got me that one time and it just would have been, um..."

"What?"

"Never mind. It's—"She begins and then laughs.

"Hey, no. Hey, no. What—? What is it?"

"Well, it's not a big thing. It's just that one bite and its, uh, you know, curtains for me"

"What are you talking about?"

"The legend says that a bite from a werewolf can kill a vampire"

"How do you know that?"

"I... I think I read it somewhere, um—" She lied.

"Hey, Caroline, you got a second?" Matt interrupted.

"Hey, Matt, What's up?" Tyler said.

"Uh, yeah, sure" Caroline said to Matt.

"I'll see you guys later" Tyler said before walking away.

"That was nothing, okay? There's nothing going on between Tyler and I. We were just talking-"

"I believe you" Matt interrupted.

"Look, Caroline, you're a lot of thing, but you're not a liar. You've always been straight with me. I believe you" He adds.

"Well, good" She smiles.

"And that's why I wanna be straight with you because I think we got some wires crossed here"

"Oh. Okay"

"And, you know how tongue-tied I get, and, well, I— I don't like this. Whatever this is that's going on between us and I just wanna— " He said before kissing her.

They kissed for a few seconds until they both pulled away.

"Hey. You can't" She told him.

"Why?"

"Just—"

"But, Care—"

"No, Matt. Okay?" She told him before walking away.

Jules walked up to Liz Forbes in the Mystic grill.

"Sheriff Forbes. Hi, i'm Mason Lockwood's friend from Florida"

"Jules right?" Liz asked to which Jules nodded.

"Is there any news?"

"No one's heard from him. I've opened an investigation. As soon as I hear anything, I'll let you know" Liz said before walking away.

Alaric was in Mystic grill and he saw Jules so he called Damon.

"Hey, Damon, the, uh, wolf is in the Grill" He said before closing his phone.

Stefan walked up to Alaric and sat down at the table.

"Oh, is that the, uh?" Stefan says, then mimics a wolf growling.

"Yeah. Yeah. I just, uh, left Damon a message"

"So you're doing his dirty work for him"

"Hmm. She could have a cure for Rose. I couldn't find anything in Isobel's research. Except that it's fatal"

"Do you still know of a way to get in touch with, uh— with Isobel?"

"Even if I did, she isn't gonna help"

"Katherine said that Isobel knew of Klaus"

"So this isn't about Rose. It's about Elena" Alaric says to which Stefan nods.

"I have an old number. Probably out of service" Alaric tells him.

"No harm in giving it to me, then?" Stefan says.

"You know you can't trust Isobel. Even when it comes to Elena"

"I know that"

"All right. I'll see if I can find the number. If I do, I'll text it to you"

"I hate this. I'm a vampire. I haven't had a cold in five centuries" Rose said while Elena helped her into the bed and Bella held her glass of blood.

"Just get in bed" Elena told her.

"We don't get sick. When we die, it's fast and sudden. And it's certainly not drawn out with an illness" Rose says.

"You're not gonna die" Elena tells her.

"Such a human thing to say"

While Elena was tucking Rose in she looked around Damon's room.

"You've never been in Damon's room before have you?" Rose asked.

She picked up one of Damon's books and scoffed.

"Not what you expected?" Rose asked.

"It's just a room with a bed" Elena said, sitting down on the bed.

"I expected there to be silk sheets" Bella said, sitting down next to Elena.

Elena and Rose laughed then Elena nodded, agreeing with Bella.

"You're lucky, you know. No one's ever loved me the way you're loved" Rose told Elena.

"Well I doubt that" Elena replied.

"Trevor was my best friend. Nothing more. I spent all those years on the run from Elijah. I just never thought it was a good idea to set up roots. The whole idea of family is not exactly compatible with being a vampire"

"Why are you so eager to give up?" Rose asked.

"I'm not giving up on anything"

"Here" Bella said, passing her the glass of blood.

"What do you call this whole deal with Elijah?" Rose asked.

"I call it my best option"

"It's your easiest option"

"That's not fair" Elena told her, shaking her head.

"You think your witch friend destroyed the moonstone?"

"I spoke with Bonnie. I know she had the help of another witch. I'm assuming it's Elijah's witch, so, no, I don't"

"I'm gonna get a drink from downstairs, I'll be back" Bella said before walking away.

After a few seconds of silence Rose spoke up.

"You really are determined to die, aren't you? At least I ran. You're not even trying. I'm so tired" Rose said before closing her eyes.

Elena got up and walked a bit.

"No, stop, wait" She said, making Elena stop in her tracks.

"Tell them to prepare the horses" She said.

"It's okay, Rose. Just get some sleep. You'll feel better when you wake up" Elena told her.

"Trevor, don't be so stupid... we're never gonna make it there before the sun"  She said before opening her eyes and sitting up.

"Elena. Elena, I need more blood"

"Yeah. Yeah, of course. Here" She said, passing her the blood.

Rose drank it but then spat it out and started coughing.

Bella could hear them so she ran upstairs to Damon's room.

"Is everything okay?" She asked.

"She's choking" Elena told her.

Elena started rubbing Rose's back and Bella sat down next to Rose and done the same.

"It's okay. Everything's gonna be all right" Bella told her.

Elena and Bella rushed to Damon's bathroom, Elena got a flannel and put some water on it, to help Rose.

The two walked back into the room but Rose wasn't there.
