SYNOPSIS:

𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐀 𝐌𝐂𝐂𝐀𝐁𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐀 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐋 𝐖𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍. She did not have a working middle class family, she did not attend university with all the other adults of her age or have a relatively stable job to provide for herself. No, Amara did not have that at all.

Instead, she was a goddamn superhero.

Amara was the daughter of Mari McCabe, the infamous Vixen. The superhero who could wield the powers of the animal kingdom. The strength of oxes ran through her veins, her dark skin as thick as an elephant, deviousness as equal as the sly fox. But her roar, it boomed louder than lions, making the world shudder at each word that passed through her rosy lips.

Amara was a McCabe which meant that she also inherited the powers her mother had, and as such, she became Virago, Vixen's little prodigy. But with such an honor, came the constant reminder of the people she served and the life she aimed to preserve. Of all the people that depended on her.

Amara's entire life had been spent training, preparing to take over the mantle of Vixen. To assume the role of protector of the people and animals of the world, to be the hero that would put their life on their line for the good of the world.

But Amara had always struggled with coming to terms with her future. Unable to fathom how she could bear the weight of the world on her shoulders, expected to protect everyone from the evil that corrupted the world. She already struggled to just get up out of bed before 10 o'clock in the morning, so she couldn't imagine how she was expected to save so many people from the darkness that sought to cripple the only goodness left in society.

That was until she joined the Titans.

The Titans gave Amara a purpose in life. She could fight with her allies, her friends, whilst still upholding the mantle that was passed down to her. She saved the innocent, just as the Vixen tradition demanded, but she never had to do it alone. The burden on her shoulders eased, finally allowing her that desperate sliver of air to revive her aching lungs.

And then there was Dick Grayson, the Boy Wonder. Batman's little sidekick proved to grow on Amara every day. At first, it started with an unforgettable conversation, but then it evolved into so much more. She became dependant on him like a turtle needed its shell. Because without it, she never truly felt at home. Exposed to the harsh pain of the world.

But not even the 9 lives of a cat could save Amara. Joining the Titans may have been her savior, but it also became her ruination. She had needed it to survive, but it also proved to be her ultimate demise. It had kept her alive, but it also killed her.

NOTES:

↳ Logan can be changed as the face claim but only for an African actress

↳ Vixen is a real DC character and I used DC Universe Wiki to help create the character of Virago, meaning there will be lots of research that goes into developing this story!

↳ I would like the chapters to switch between years constantly so it flicks between the flashback parts in Season 2 and Season 1 as the story progresses (that way Amara's back story is told as the actual storyline advances)

↳ Virago/ Amara has the same powers as her mother and a similar amulet to the Tantu Totem

↳ As the place that Mari and Amara are from in the DC Universe isn't real, I chose their native tongue to be Swahili

↳ This will be a slowish burn, meaning that it isn't super slow but they don't get together in chapter 2 either

↳ As I am the queen of angst, this story is once again another emotional rollercoaster
