Skyler's Past - Part 1
I put on some music while I walked over the streets. In my hands I had a nice bouquet of flowers which I tried to keep out of the rain as much as possible. It was raining cats and dogs and my umbrella was not much of a use. Typical. The sight in front of me was hazy and the sky was grey. A car drove by in fast speed and a whole splash of water spat up, completely soaking me.
"Thanks a lot," I muttered angrily. I glared at the car which was already in the distance. Luckily my music device was still working.
I hesitated about what to do next, go back to the orphanage or continue my way? I decided to keep walking, I was already soaked. I couldn't get any more soaked than this. I stared at the bouquet, the flowers were no longer beautiful. They were drowned because of the car and water fell in a fast tempo off the leaves. I swallowed and try to keep in my tears.
Look it from this side, I said to myself. When you had put the bouquet down, it would get drowned anyways! Yeah, not really positive thinking but it helped me, a bit.
I started walking again and not much later, I entered the cemetery. Blindly I walked to my parents' grave and I stared with a blank face at the words. Today it had been four years since my parents had died in a fire. I placed the flowers on the small stone and let my hand rest on the cold, hard, wet stone for a moment while closing my eyes.
I wished you were here, I thought. I opened my eyes again and noticed that one row further there were also people standing. Between the man and woman stood a boy around my age. The man and woman were sobbing silently but the boy stood with them a bit uncomfortable. I couldn't help to notice - even in this pouring rain - that the boy was too young to be their child.
He smiled sadly when he caught me looking and quickly I averted my gaze. I threw one last look upon my parents' grave and decided to leave again.
"My dear child, what are you doing here all alone?" the woman a few meters ahead suddenly asked me and I halted in my step. She dried her cheeks and smiled friendly. "A graveyard is no place for a young girl as you to visit alone."
"I..." I started but my voice caught in my throat. It indeed was no place to visit alone. But that was the truth: I am alone. My tears started to fall and the woman quickly made her way towards me. "O! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry."
She kneeled down in front of me to be at my eyesight, and looked in my eyes concerned.
"I... I am alone," I stuttered while trying to keep in my tears, but it was no use. The woman hushed me and placed her arms around me. She hugged me tightly and I let my tears flow, it had been a long time since someone had hugged me like that. My heart broke in thousands of pieces by the remembering of my loss.
"Hush now... It's going to be alright," the woman whispered in my ear while she stroked my wavy brown hair.
She continued after a while of silence. "How 'bout a nice cup of tea to warm you up, ey?" she let go off me and smiled friendly. I sniffed, suddenly embarrassed to have shown my emotional side. She put her hand against my cheek and wiped away my tears. She neighed her head to assure me it was fine and I decided to go with them. They seemed like nice people. The man helped his wife - at least I think it was his wife - to get back on her feet and ashamed I stared at her trousers. They were all covered in mud now because she had kneeled down for me.
"It's okay, child." And she held out her hand and slowly I took it. We walked down the path and left the gloomy cemetery.
I stepped inside their car and the boy took the seat next to me, behind the driver's seat.
"I'm Peter. Peter Parker," the boy introduced himself and I shook his outstretched hand.
"Skyler Lynn."
The man introduced himself as Benjamin Parker, but I could call him Ben, and the woman's name was May Reilly-Parker.
It was no long drive to their home and within a few minutes we all sat around the table with a warm, steaming cup of tea in front of us. I blew over the substance to let it cool down a bit and warmed my hands by wrapping them around the cup.
"If I may ask, who were you visiting?" May asked after I had taken my first careful sip of the tea. I put down the cup and stared into it.
"My parents," I answered. I decided it couldn't do any harm if I told these friendly people. I tried to avoid their compassionate looks.
"We were visiting my parents," Peter said and I focussed my look on him. So, he is orphaned too - I had guessed that -, but at least he got some family members to take care of him.
"But I didn't really know them," he added with a frown and in the corner of my eye I saw Ben looking distressed.
He saw me casting glances. "He was my brother," he explained. "My very younger brother," and he smiled waterly at the thought of his brother.
"Peter was only an infant when they died," May added.
"I'm sorry," I said to them all, I knew how difficult it was to loose someone dear to you.
Silence fell between us and I finished my tea. I looked at the clock on the wall and saw I probably should return to the orphanage now.
"We'll bring you to your home. Where do you live?" It was like May could read my mind.
I gave them the address of the orphanage and they didn't know what to say for a moment.
"We're sorry about that... But you must know you're always welcome here," May said and a genuine smile grew on my face. I had the feeling I was going to like this family.

Okay okay *inhales deeply* I'm okay.
Hope you 'sorta' liked it! :)
Next one will be Iris' past! I don't know yet if I should write Elizabeth's... Any interest for it?
And when Megan hasn't responded by tomorrow, we'll have a new fangirl to welcome (if she still wants to join, getting ahead of myself as usual)
