Aaliyah nudged Janae with her head, Janae immediately looking towards her. "Hey, you okay?" Aaliyah shook her head but barely, her breathing became more shallow. "I love you. I'm sorry." Janae furrowed her brows, going to speak until Aaliyah fell forward, her face hitting the ground, going unconscious. "Aaliyah? Aaliyah! Wake up! Aaliyah!" Janae cried more as she got no response. Alissa's eyes widened at her daughter's unconscious state. "Jeremiah! Alec!" Alissa called for her husband and son, looking around for them.

Luckily, Jeremiah, Alec, and Teyana heard their cries, running outside. "Aaliyah!" The guards on watch stopped them, "That's my daughter! She needs help! She's hurt!" Jeremiah said seeing his daughter unconscious on the floor. "Call an ambulance! She's unconscious!" Alec said, fighting against the man's hold. Janae, Aaliyah's girlfriend cried even more, "Aaliyah! Someone help her! Liyah! She needs help! Help her!" Alissa tried to stay strong, it wasn't the time to break down.

An ambulance arrived on the scene, Jeremiah broke through his grasp, running over, he picked up the unconscious Aaliyah, "She's not breathing!" The paramedics ran over, Jeremiah setting her on the gurney. They cut the zipties around her wrists, setting them back by her sides. Janae cried even more, laying her head on Alissa's shoulder. "Jeremiah, you save our daughter! Okay?! Save my baby!" Jeremiah looked at his wife, giving her a sharp nod.

"Janae, call me as soon as you can! You too mum! It's gonna be alright!" Alec shouted before he and Teyana ran to their car, going to drive to the hospital with the ambulance, Jeremiah running to his car as he wasn't allowed in the back.

"She's gonna die, isn't she?" Janae cries softly, Alissa wishing she could do more to comfort the girl. "We don't know that yet. Don't think like that. She's strong. She'll fight it." Alissa tried her best to assure the girl but it wasn't that convincing if she herself was worried immensely for her daughter. "She's gonna be okay. I promise."

That was weeks ago. Alissa hadn't gotten much rest ever since, being in Litchfield Maximum Security was already enough to make the woman restless yet alone with the condition of her daughter. Aaliyah was in a coma, having been beaten so bad by one of the riot men. She was supposed to protect her, like a mother should, but instead she couldn't. She felt like a horrible mother. It was bad enough Aaliyah was still learning to forgive her for the affairs, bad parenting, and getting herself thrown in jail.

Though it's not like Alissa had the greatest examples from her parents. But, she rather be anywhere but Litchfield Max. Not after everything she's done to a certain someone here. That was enough to keep her up at night. Wondering how that certain woman would react to Alissa's presence almost thirty years later. It definitely wasn't gonna be good. If she was lucky, she'd be put in Florida, but she strongly doubted that would happen. Even D-block was better than her awaiting fate in C-block.

However that wasn't her only focus. Aaliyah was. Her daughter was way more important than any of her old enemies. Alissa sat in her cell, currently being held in Ad Seg with the rest of the ladies from the riot. Some noise was heard and she ignored it, until she heard her cell being opened. Alissa looked up in shock, her eyes widening when Aaliyah walked in. Aaliyah pursed her lips into a firm line, "Hi, mum."

"Oh my God." Alissa got up quickly, wrapping her arms tightly around her daughter. Aaliyah winced, "Ow, careful. Broken ribs and bruises mum." Alissa pulled away with a frown, "Right, sorry. I forgot." Aaliyah walked towards the wall, leaning against it as a CO opened the door to put in a "bed." Alissa took a breath, turning to her daughter. "Do you have any idea how stupid that was? A gun, Aaliyah? Where did you even get a gun?! You could be charged with assault! Look at me-"

"Enough, mother!" Aaliyah cried, taking slow breaths to counter the pain. "I just got out of a bloody coma! I have no idea where my girlfriend is! And I feel like my entire body is on fire! So please, spare me the lecture! I know it was stupid but I was just trying to protect her. Okay, I love her, and I really miss her." Aaliyah sniffles, wiping her tears. Alissa frowned, tears threatening to spill, she carefully pulled the girl into her arms. "I'm sorry. I know you miss her. It'll be okay."

Aaliyah pushed Alissa off of her, "No, it won't be! It's won't be okay. You don't get it! I cannot live without her. You don't know how it feels to be ripped apart from someone!"

Alissa sighed, running a hand through her hair, she sat down on the bed, patting the spot next to her. "Sit. Now." Aaliyah huffed, taking the seat next to her mother. "I know exactly how you feel, and let me tell you how." Liyah looked up at her mum in confusion. "You remember when I got arrested for being an accomplice of murder, right?" Aaliyah nodded, remembering the stories of Tate. Alissa used to tell her during the month of Halloween cause that's when Liyah had a whole true crime horror faze.

"Well, I got sent here, to Max, and none of the girls here liked me because they thought I was just like my parents. And, I guess looking at it now, they were probably right. Anyways, there was this girl, she was my bunkmate, and her name was Frieda Berlin." Aaliyah looked at her mum with wide eyes, knowing exactly who that was. Alissa nodded before continuing. "She was the only one who didn't judge me based on my parents. We became really good friends, and I eventually fell in love with her. She didn't know that yet."

Frieda knew now though obviously, as when Alissa tried to kill her, she went on a rant about how Frieda's actions left her heartbroken. "And then, came along Carol Denning. She befriended Frieda and we became friends by technicality, you could say. We were never that close at first. And as you already know, Frieda betrayed us. Carol had also been in love with Frieda, so we kind of bonded over our mutual hatred after she left. She helped me embrace my uncovered..feelings."

"And we fell in love..."

Alissa Channing was completely and utterly in love with Carol Denning. And Carol could strongly say that she felt the exact same way. Which is why Alissa was so nervous to tell Carol that her release date was coming up. It had been five years. Four years since Frieda betrayed them, and Alissa spent every day of her time with her girlfriend Carol. They ran a competing drug business together against Barb. Alissa had been the one to push Carol back into the business, confident that they could run it better now with more experience.

And now, Alissa would have to leave. She would have to leave Carol. She knew Carol would not take it well, which is why she had yet to tell her. She feared Carol would react the same way when Frieda left them. And maybe cause she had a feeling Carol would try to steal Alissa's date. She was a maniac, so that wouldn't be shocking. It wasn't like Alissa wanted to leave Carol. But she had no choice in the matter. As much as she loved Carol, she also hated prison. She just wished she could take Carol with her.

"Hey cupcake." Alissa was pulled from her thoughts when Carol laid down next to her. "Hi," Alissa said a little too quietly, causing suspicion to rise from Carol. "What's wrong with you?" Carol questioned, putting her arm over Alissa's waist. Alissa sighed, "It's nothing. Don't worry about it." Despite this, Carol had a thing where she absolutely could not let things go, no matter the situation. "It's not nothing if it's bothering you. What's up? You can tell me."

Alissa looked down, pulling her knees to her chest. "My release date is coming up."

Carol went silent, though Alissa could swear that she heard a curse word. "So..does this mean you're breaking up with me?" Carol questioned. Alissa was quick to deny, "No! No, I don't wanna break up with you. That's the problem. How would this work if I'm leaving?" Carol hummed, squinting her eyes in thought. "What if you don't leave?" Alissa turned to her in confusion, wondering what she meant by that. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, just get extra time! That way you don't have to leave and we could be together forever!" Carol grinned as if she just came up with the cure for cancer. Alissa scrunched her brows, "I can't do that, Carol. I can't waste my life in here. I'm sorry." Carol scoffed, rolling her eyes, "so you're saying that I'm a waste of your time?"

"No! I'm not saying that. You're amazing, and I really love you. But I can't waste an opportunity to get out. You would do the exact same thing if you were me." Alissa points out, making a very good point because Carol would in fact leave if she had the chance. Carol sighed, hating that she was right. "What are you even gonna do when you get out? I mean, no offense or anything but you don't exactly have any family left." I mean, maybe that was a little cruel to say but she wasn't exactly wrong.

Alissa pursed her lips, nodding cause she wasn't gonna disagree with that if it was true. "I know, but with the money I have from our business, I can use it to get an apartment and then I'll find a job. I'll wait for you."

Carol scoffs, "That's what they all say."

Alissa turned to cup Carol's face, "Well, I'm not them. I don't care how long I have to wait. I will wait, because I love you. Nothing will ever change the way I feel about you. I will wait." Carol smiled softly, "You promise?" Alissa smiled back, "Yes. I promise you." Carol chuckles and connected their lips, pulling Alissa onto her lap.

"I love you, Liss." Carol breathed out against her lips. "I love you too, Care."

Aaliyah pretended to be shocked, holding her palms to her cheeks, "and let me guess, you didn't wait." Alissa rolled her eyes at Aaliyah's sarcasm. "You better be grateful, you're only here because I didn't wait." Aaliyah chuckles softly, urging her mother to continue the story. "Carol called me every week, and one day I just stopped answering. By that time, I met your father. Two months of being together, he proposed, and I said yes, because I loved him, and because I knew he could take care of me. I moved on with my life and left Carol in my past. So yes, Liyah, I know exactly what it feels like."

Aaliyah furrowed her brows, connecting the dots. "Wait- so this means, Carol is here." Alissa gulped, taking a breath and nodding, confirming her daughter's statement. "So that's why you're telling me this. It's not because you care, it's because you're scared. You're scared she's gonna kill you, and you need me. That's why you're being so motherly." Aaliyah scoffs, standing up. "Wow, mum, when I actually think you start to care about me."

Alissa sighs, shaking her head, "That's not true. I do care about you, you're my daughter for crying out loud. I'm telling you so you can be careful. She wants to hurt me, and the only way to hurt me is to hurt you." Aaliyah pursed her lips, glaring at the ceiling. "Of course. It's always something with you. I can never just be normal, can I?"

"No, you can't, Aaliyah. You came from me, you were birthed from a pyscho with serial killers as her parents. And whether you like it or not, you are my daughter, which means you will always have a target on your back, and I deeply apologize for that, but it is not my fault." Alissa defended, standing up to face her angry daughter.

"You're right, mum. It's not your fault that I come from a family of killers. But it is your fault that I am the way that I am. Don't start acting as if you didn't have several affairs. Don't act as if you didn't leave for days at a time knowing dad was too busy, or too sick to watch me. All your cheating, all your lies, is the exact reason I was turned to drugs. Because I thought they could numb the pain of your bad parenting! You are the reason I am so fucked up!" Aaliyah exclaimed, fighting every urge to slap her mother across the face.

Alissa stared down at her daughter, tired of that being thrown in her face all the time. "Don't blame me for your decisions, Aaliyah. I admit, I made mistakes, and I do regret the majority of them. But I had never once forced you to take drugs, or to commit fucking arson and attempted murder! That was your choice! Nobody forced that on you and you need to start taking accountability for your actions. Grow the hell up, Aaliyah."

Aaliyah scoffed loudly and obnoxiously. "Oh, you want me to grow up? That's real ironic coming from the woman who chops people up like steaks when they deceive her!" Alissa raised a brow, taking offense from that particular statement. "It was one time and I did it for you!" Liyah scoffs. "Oh yeah, because I desperately wanted you to chop the bloke up like Jeffrey fucking Dahmer!" Aaliyah exclaimed sarcastically.

Aaliyah took a break, wiping her face, "I just wanted you. I wanted you to be my mother. I didn't want you to kill him. I just wanted you to be there for me in my time of need. And you couldn't even do that. So I am done. I'm done trying to fix this relationship when clearly it burned down years ago. You only ever cared about yourself. So I suggest you keep it that way. After all, could it really get any worse that this?"

Alissa didn't fight the tears that fell. She hated that Aaliyah was kind of right. She wasn't a good mother. She wasn't good with feelings. She wasn't good with relationships. Maybe that's why they all crashed and burned. As much as it hurt her to hear that, it hurt Aaliyah more when she had to say it.

Cause it was the sad reality of the Channing family.
